I'm just not feeling any sort of excitement about the Winter Olympics this year.

But, then again, I did feel much the same way just before the Beijing Olympics (mostly out of my annoyance with Beijing getting to host a 3 week long propaganda campaign about how they're a Real Powerful Nation now that doesn't shoot dissidents in the head nearly as much as they used to), and I really really got into them.

There needs to be a breakout personality that galvanizes the audience, sort of like Michael Phelps at Beijing. I'm not sure who that could be yet.

JESUS CHRIST! I've seen and responded to a boat load of downhill and to a lesser extent luge/bobsled accidents but this one ranks up there for shock value. The course officials need to be held to task....you don't leave posts/barriers/etc. exposed like that after coming out of a turn. No need to extend the ice surface up higher current but there should be some plexiglass to bounce the athlete back onto the track.
