Someone needs to test Jose Batista .

He hasn't had more than 16hrs in 1 year his entire career.

All of a sudden he is hitting bombs?

Someone needs to test this entire team. 3 bombs tonight, 20 HR's ahead of every other team in baseball.

This is classic coming from the Oakland A's East! Isn't Arod & Petite on the yank team right now? Hmmm. I seem to have trouble thinking of any on the Jays right now linked.

Oh and why pitch to Cano? Frasor has 0 movement on his fastball. I could hit him even though he throws 95. Batting practice location.

Seriously...

Jose Bautista has never hit more than 16 hrs ever, and ALEX GONZOLEZ WITH 13?!

Either Sky dome has turned into utter joke of a park or something is up.

Bautista never started before either, not to mention look at the hitting philosophy of the Jay's hitting instructor and Cito...get great hacks at the few pitches you'll see. This has led to two things, a ton of strike outs AND home runs. Honestly, it's pretty fucking easily to see their approach if you watch any game they have played all year.

Oh and look at both players, if anyone in that game is still roiding or hgh infused it's fucking maniac swisher.

I can buy the Bautista getting real play time angle, but i aint buying Gonzalez.

And Swish has actuly come into this year much leaner and thinner.

Everyone was going crazy about how good Cervelli and Austin Jackson were playing a couple months ago. Revisiting how they have been playing......

Austin Jackson in April: .364 avg, .917 OPS
May: .297 avg, .732 OPS
June: .243, .563 OPS

Cervelli in April: .360 avg, .848 OPS
May: .307 avg, .768 OPS
June: .100 avg, .448 OPS

Which just goes to show that how young players start mean nothing. They have to make adjustments. Sometimes they do. Sometimes they don't (Joba).

i dont really get your point. talking about how good a young player is during their first month in the big leagues is as silly as talking about how good they are in their third month. if youre good enough to last thats why they call it a career and not a cup of coffee.

When Jackson started off hot and Posada got injured and Cervelli stepped in there was a lot of talk, not much around here but in other places, about how the Granderson trade was a disaster and Cervelli should take over for Posada.

It was all premature obviously. Just pointing that out. It will still be a while before we can judge either of them. But it seems the league has figured out how to pitch to both of them at this point.

Those horrendous non-calls in the Posada at-bat disagree.

And we've been occupied elsewhere...Stanley Cup Finals took precedent and fed right into World Cup time...don't worry about us...we're watching with quiet confidence.

Any tried and true Phillies fan knows that they go through a hitting stretch like this every year around June 1st...looks like Burnett got to be slump-buster tonight.

I'm not talking like, "oh, that's different", she looked like a porn star. And there was no cleavage, it was all just tightness and bulges.

I went to Liz, who was watching with me, and she confirmed that I wasn't seeing things or from a Matty skew.

I'm not saying it does. But I'm just saying the main reason Leyritz isn't in more trouble is because the person he killed was also drunk.

That's why Donte Stallworth got off light, and so did another person in New York State got off light for killing someone when their bike swerved into the road - when you kill someone, if they are at fault or figured into their demise, you don't get punished as badly.

i just hope there was a back room deal struck on that one to get us out of the al east

fuck that division if they won't fix the league. we'd be the fucking twins if in the al central.

Hell, Halladay surely would have seen the playoffs. It's literally impossible to compete with teams at about 2-4 times ur own salary. A year here or there when all the kids hit and cheap vets have monster years, sure. But not year to year, no fucking way. Talk to me about the Rays in 2 years too. Hell, they're out of it this year and still have most of their guys.

162 games will usually fuck any upstart team versus an all-star team. It's your classic dream team scenario, what fun is watching that? I'd rather see stars fight/battle against each other so we see who the real clutch players are. Now they just all flock to a team or two and soak in artificial championships earned by groups of free agents, not teams like from about 1996 back. Even though their whole rotation were hired guns just about.

I am hearing rumors of Cliff Lee to the Yankees today.

What is amazing to me is that the Yankees are always able to swing these deals and give up basically nothing. Montero is hitting around .250 in AAA and very suspect defensively and he is probably going to be the main piece going back to Seattle.

If Lee does go to NY, is Vasquez the odd man out of the rotation or is it Burnett ?

People are losing their mind over Montero. And I said this before - where the hell are you going to put him? You've got cervelli in front of him and romine in back of him. At this point, he can't go to 1B or the OF. He's basically a glorified DH splitting time with Posada and Cervelli for DH/C spots next year, if he even comes up.

Meh... It's a little different with pitching. If this was another lineup guy, like if they got Werth, it'd be like what the fuck? It's enough already. But for some reason it doesn't bother as much that it's another pitcher. Burnett and Vasquez are such head cases that it's more reassuring than overkill.

Fuck Werth. Don't want him. He can keep cursing at kids in Philly.

I'm not a fan of this proposed trade. I want to hold on Montero. Although I guess they couldn't get much more for him (assuming there aren't other top level prospects in the trade) the Yanks have so little talent in the minors offensively. Still having Romine helps but..... I don't know.

This is a tough one. I guess you have to take into account Lee being traded elsewhere and signing an extension but I'd still take a chance on waiting and trying to sign him.

"As we speak". OK. As of 6:45 EST on Friday, July 9:

Nick Swisher: 53 runs, 90 hits, 14 HRS, 48 RBI, 36 walks 69 K's. .307 avg with a OBP of .386, slugging of .531 and OPS of .917.

Jayson Werth: 51 runs, 79 hits, 13 HRS, 48 RBIS, 39 walks, 81 K's. 278 average, OBP 365, slugging of .514 and OPS of .879.

So, as we speak, he is NOT better than anyone in our outfield, namely, Nick Swisher. Considering I had Swish and Werth on my fantasy team and I rue the day I cut Swish, I know of what I speak.

Or do you go on attack mode when someone makes legit points and you can't counter act?

Don't blame the Yanks for the fact that your Org has been poorly drafted and poorly run.

You said it yourself, JP was terrible.

Sorry.

Rays have managed to compete for 3 years now spending no money by drafting.

Wow..

Can you EVER have a normal convo without going on full attack insult mode?
Not when someone picks and chooses when he likes free agency and or people looking to join a team ready to win...especially since it's EXTREME sour grapes bc you wanted 2 of 3 of them in NY to form the "knicks" with Amare. Hypocrite much?

Or do you go on attack mode when someone makes legit points and you can't counter act?

Since the prerequisite of a legit point must first be made, the answer is obviously no. I'll give you plenty of "counter act" right here as I have with you tonight on AIM.

Don't blame the Yanks for the fact that your Org has been poorly drafted and poorly run.

You said it yourself, JP was terrible.

I never said that, ever. I said he sucked at the end bc he was throwing hail mary passes up to save his fucking job. In any other division, any other league he would have been fine. Too bad he lost countless good players to free agency, lost good picks unwilling to sign and had to battle with payrolls and bad exchange rates...Still, he usually fielded a team that finished above .500 in the toughest division in MLB with a third or more the top two team's payroll without sucking for 10 years straight to stockpile young talent like the Rays. Am I a huge fan of his drafting, not so much, but he was far from horrible. Hill, Lind, Wells, League, Marcum, Purcey (just up), Jackson (still developing/SD), Janssen (SD), Romero, Ray (SD), Snider (SD), Cecil, Mills, Arencibia (SD), Rzepczynski (SD), Litsch and so many more. Hell, most of his picks aren't even ready to go and hence their grade and or their drafting is hardly ready to be ranked.

Sorry.

you should be

Rays have managed to compete for 3 years now spending no money by drafting.

Which three would that be, I'm confused?! You must mean 2008, the perfect storm year in which years upon years of sucking and piling up picks tied to incredibly rare off years by both Boston & New York led to an extremely lucky playoff birth for Tampa? I count 1, ONE year. Bc the next year they finished third 19 games out of first, and 11 out of the WC? Was that one of the three? Help me out bc I'm confused.

Also, does this year's standing count before the all-star game?! You know, the one where they're not in first and falling? The one that is only halfway done and the Rays sit about where the Jays did last year at this time? Forgive me if I hold back from ur clouded optimism for a team on the back end of hitting in all of MLB riding only speed to put up runs at this point to back a pretty good staff. If one guy, ONE goes down, they'll finish behind the fucking Jays.

Fun fact: The Rays finished 5th of 5 teams in the AL East from 1998-2007 every year but one. That year they finished 4th 21 games under .500. Hence the kids they amassed means you need to suck for a decade on monumental levels so as to compete for "the last 3 years" or 1.5 to those not blinded by trying to win an argument. The first half season compete level will be rewarded by losing players this off-season baby! Yah! Probably to the yanks too! Goodbye at least a few of (those other teams want) Crawford, Pena, Soriano, Upton, Garza, Bartlett, Navarro, Jaso, Niemann, Balfour, Sonnanstine and Davis.

And they will continue to do so because they have a stacked farm.

Sure. If you believe that'll contend in the AL East often, you're mad. I'm not even sold they'll be able to catch lightning in a bottle as much as they have in the past, especially since they "contended the last three years" as you believe. Better picks fall now bc of salary demands as of late, so even being awful might not help the future.

I want a fair system, but it wont happen anytime soon..

Bc everyone IS QUIET and no team or a team's management will step up and go after Selig the pawn on it. I'd much rather the Jays go out with piss and vinegar fighting the system rather than like Expos taking it in the ass and being a trip A team like Pitt or KC.

Its not like the Yankees have dominated the game for the past decade..
Yah, they did miss the playoffs that one time. And the mere fact they haven't won more is proof just how badly they are actually run and managed.

MLB has had less repeat champions this past decade than any other sport.
So sick of this bs argument bc I'm mainly focused on the AL East and the playoffs/contention overall. The final winner is more up in the air but over 160 games, not much is with this system. There is no other league (outside the NBA I guess) where teams are all but done before game one like in MLB.

The only person who has a gripe about what the Yankees have done these past few years is Epo.

You really don't pay attention do you? WFAN has rotted your fucking brain.

He got screwed out of a top pick.

So sorry to hear the Epo Powder's lost the first rounder in fantasy.

Pretty much sums up the yankee hired gun family in my mind. A bunch of ulterior motive cunts using each other for money and titles. Why compete against each other when we can all play in the same place and win almost by default!?

Who can be bothered by a funeral of a guy the supposedly just won this game for!? Fuck that, they won it for themselves and just said the pc thing. Not one player, past or present, showed up to his wake or funeral. What a family!

It's really sad in my mind bc the guy was an icon (even if I hate his team). ESPN radio in their attempt (KAY & LeGreco?) to dilute the yankee's blame, they actually made a great point. Kay was defending the yanks by saying no Giants or St. John's players were there either. He was both their voices for years, and many local sports icons still living here didn't bother to go who also knew him well. This fact doesn't make it any better in any way that the yanks weren't there. But it just shows the divide athletes now seemingly have, especially a team with the stars/mentality of the yankees with the outside world, even if in the booth.

I'd go as far as saying that Jeter should stop using his recorded voice to announce him anymore.

It just looks like a bs ploy to make himself look like a good guy..

I love the quote of.. You don't need to go to a person's funeral to honor them..

I'm of two minds in this situation:

Yes, he was the voice of the stadium and people revered him and you should go pay respect. BUT:

1) It's not like he was a "friend" of the players. Shepherd was notoriously private and kept to himself.

2) It's well known that Shepherd was literally in the elevator out the door as soon as the final out was caught.

3) Shepherd retired at the end of the 2007 season. So for current players, Swisher, Gardner, Granderson, Thames, Teix, Cervelli, Pena, Sabathia, AJ Burnett, Robertson, Russo, Curtis, and I'm sure some other pitchers I'm forgetting have zero connection to Bob. None.

4) The funeral was during the extended all-star break, where I'm sure many Yankee players already had plans. Joba's kid is like 6 years old. When making a decision to attend a funeral for a man daddy hardly knew OR stay with his kid, I believe Joba made the right decision.

Personally, I am annoyed that some of the Yankees who were well-ingrained like Jeter or Cano or Pettite didn't go. But maybe they knew they were honoring his widow at Old Timers' Day and they'd pay their respects then.

It is douchey, but I don't think it's as cut and dried as "they're selfish douches".

Cheek's job role and Shepperd's role were completely different. Cheek was a broadcaster who was in the locker room, doing pre and post game, interviewing players, traveling with the team etc.

Shepperd did no such thing. He arrived when gates opened, did his announcements, left at the last out.

The fuck you are talking about?

Among the some 2,000 attending the memorial were Reggie Jackson, Derek Jeter, Andy Pettitte and Joe Girardi.

Also, there was a three week separating between Murcer's death and the timing of the funeral. Bob's funeral was less than a week after his death.

Did you ever accept the fact that Kay's an idiot?

The more I think about it, the timing of Bob's funeral kinda indicates to me that the family didn't intend the players to show up.

Compare it to Murcer's funeral - three weeks after the fact, on an off-day, scheduled so players could make it.

No Yankees went to Steinbrenner's funeral, I don't hear Madden bitching about that.

Was listening to Adam the Bull on Sat, and some asked your question, he said the Sheppered Fam had seats reserved for the Yanks.

to be honest... I agree it's bad form by the Yankees, but it goes back to the timing being wrong. Maybe there was a communications snafu on the Yankees end. Maybe it was because the funeral happened rather quickly compared to Murcer's, and it was also during the all-star break when the Yankees were still off.

I refuse to accept that the entire team just bailed on it because of being selfish jerks. There's a lot of reasons and variables at play here.
