I guess Mitt is the best this party has to offer right now...barring some amazing climb by lesser candidates like Huntsman. Yet he's seemingly batshit on certain topics too, and another LDS/mormon and a cousin of Mitt's anyway. At least he should have some in with the Reagan and W infrastructure of the political past, along with ties to global economic structure/int relations via his most recent position as ambassador to China and past positions under HW Bush and Reagan. Being the gov of Utah surely helps quell the experience issue too, even if it's that odd fucking state. I guess it's better than Alaska or Arizona, and surely better than another fucking Texan asshole.
Yah, i guess it's just a barrel of shit offered right now...nothing has changed

Mitts not my guy but what does his religion have to do with anything?Theres no religious test for office. I dont think hes going to take his orders form Salt Lake City.
No one from Arizona is running, Palin isnt in the race either and Perry is going nowhere.

A black muslim was elected to Congress in Minnesota the whitest of the white states. Sure there were some who questioned his religion but he was still elected.

I was more or less just pointing out factors limiting Huntsman, and surely not liked by the pub base with Mitt. And let's be honest, Mormonism takes religion to a whole new level of crazy, and yes, there are levels. I truly don't make it the main factor, but background and personal choices in said candidates lives do ALWAYS come into play when evaluating them. In saying this, mind you that'd I'd still pick Mitt or Huntsman over any of or combo of Newt, Perry, Palin, McCain, Cain, Santorum and the rest. Ron Paul is a wild card for me bc he's so honest and crazy at the same time. However, I'd much rather they all just fail to get elected if given the choice.
Also, no shit on the last sentence. Do you just change points in your head in order to make odd statements that simply don't pertain to the reason I gave the breakdown in the first place?

probably bc he didn't run on being a "black muslim", but focused more on the issues in said district
the same surely can't be said for the bulk of the republican pres candidates
I'm seriously waiting for a prayer circle to break out on stage during a debate to help it rain when in an area of drought. I'm sure Perry would be up for that, and crazy eyes would surely join the party. The mormons would just keep looking at each other, while Santorum would jack with prayer hands in the middle.

And I think it's much the same reason why shitty chains like McDonald's or Applebee's do so well in New York City, which has to be one of the top culinary cities in the world: rubes from out of town don't want to risk some place they've never heard of. It's not that scientists doubt global warming - that is a fact that is happening - it's that not all agree on the causes. A majority will agree that humans have contributed. Whether or not our contribution is significant or not is hard to determine due to the fact that we haven't been around long enough to have records of Earth's cycles. We know it happens, we just don't know what brings in on.

Exactly. We really should pay close attention to how a candidate runs their campaign: it's often a very good indicator of how they'll do as President.

You know, Ron Paul fans accuse the "mainstream media" of ignoring him because he's just so badass and cool, but when you do start to analyze his actual platform, it soon becomes clear how dangerously batshit crazy his platform is.
I think a lot of Ron Paul's "supporters" base their support on a very surface-level look at him: they hear him say cool things about legalizing drugs and think he's all right. The thing is, though, whenever Ron Paul talks about limiting government power, he is talking about the federal government only. Ron Paul doesn't have a problem with states turning into theocracies at all.

I dont believe he would want a theocracy at a state level, but he would want each state to compete against each other. You can always move to another state.

People have been leaving NY and CA for tax friendlier states like NC FL and AZ over the last 10 years. NY's population has decreased and as a result they are losing a couple of seats for the house of reps.
And do you know what kind of lugnuts are in state legislatures of MA, NY, CA and IL for example.
There are already federal civil rights laws like voting rights. I think youre missing my point. Do you want the federal government to intervene and define marriage? How about gun laws,? What difference does it make to someone if they live in NY with stricter laws that Texas has less restrictive gun laws? They are 2000 miles apart.
Look I dont want an articles of confederation type of gov't. From the "You're not helping" file:
Mr. [David] Duke, who was something of a mentor to Mr. [Don] Black [founder of the website Stormfront] during their days in the Klan, called in to discuss Mr. Paul. Though he said he wasn’t ready to make an official endorsement, Mr. Duke explained why he’ll be voting for Mr. Paul.
“Again, I go back to that, you know, traditional topic that I always talk about, you know, the powers of international Zionism — a power in banking, a power in media, a power in government influence, in campaign finance — a power that’s, you know, hurting the values of this country on behalf of Israel,” Mr. Duke said. “So, I would vote for Ron Paul at this moment because he’s one of the few candidates who have policies in this regard and this realm that I wholeheartedly support, and that’s why I’d vote for him.”
Hmm, yeah, this whole "Ron Paul is a racist" thing must be a total fabrication of the Liberal Media.

My main problem with both parties...ok, really one of many, is how they think government is some strict code set by our forefathers and it must only be slightly tweaked for the times. Sure this applies to the GOP more, but both love to throw around the Constitution and Constitutional Law like it's our modern day bible, as opposed to a guideline to START from and constantly adjust as the factors of our society change.
Thomas Jefferson himself said it'll need to be changed often and every generation deserves to have its own revolution to keep things current and on track. Instead, we live in the past in terms of religious and governmental restrictions. It's easier this way, all the direction is taken care of and nobody has to make actual choices and lead the country in true fashion. Our main area of big government overstepping and depleting this country is truly the investment and ramp up of our military year after year, era after era in the light of true needs at home. It's that simple. The powers that be are completely entrenched and will continue as such until someone has the...how's that go according to Bachman?...chutzput to go after that and work from there. First it was bc of WWII, then so many more like Communism/Vietnam/Korea, The Cold War, Middle East I, Middle East II, Terrorism...you get the point. Scare our money from us and cloud the common man's mind so he/she won't mind money being put into pockets to run the engine of war (fear) for profit. The most lucrative, and legal, way to fleece tax dollars.

Both parties are the same in which they both have morphed into big government parties backed by their special interests and corporate donors. There are no statesmen today. Its just whos the biggest celebrity, who can cry the most, who can say "they have your back" and say that they will uphold the constitution.
The founders with their flaws knew that one day there would be technological advances but they also knew one thing that mans thirst for more power would always be there. Madison wanted a limited federal government. Hamilton wanted more of a national government with broader powers.
The constitution isnt outdated, our government just has gone beyond its limits whether its thru bloated welfare and entitlements or wars without declaration to the massive police state we have all in the nameof security

oh and if anything, our gov is a mess bc it's out of touch in so many ways...such as Montana getting the same amount of senators are California and Florida, and so much of how our national elections go. also, if anything the gov represents a WHOLE lot more people than in the past, so it's not up to par in that light either. There are soooo many ways this country has fallen behind the times and is out of touch...and everyone is to blame by not creating their own era, versus living in the past with archaic systems and procedures.

The House represents the people and the Senate represents the states. Now it wouldnt be such a huge mess if the 17th amendment was repealed and let state legislatures elect Senators instead of popular votes.
Look at the house. There are 435 members and with a population of 312 Million thats over 717,000 people 1 member of the house has to represent on average.
Another problem is the federal reserve. Our central bank is a private institution comprising of 12 member banks which in turned are owned by the big banks. Theres no accountability, money is created without congressional oversight. Rates can be raised and or lowered without oversight and in almost 100 years never has been audited and a major factor of bubbles and bursts

I think it's interesting that the three main blocks within the GOP - The Protect Big Business's Interests (Romney); The Libertarians (Paul) and the Jesus Take The Wheel Social Conservatives (Santorum) split the vote almost evenly. Since each of those groups now think they have a real chance of steering the boat I expect the intramural fighting to take on the Total War mentality they've been attacking Obama with only now trained on each other. Should be fun to watch from this side of the fence and could lead to a break-up of the GOP as it now exists. If that happens the cracks will also be visible in the Democratic coalitions as well and maybe, just maybe, we can get past the current pointless pissing matches between the sides drawn up for the Cold War/Baby Boomer ascendency and start getting some fresh ideas for the problems we have today.
Which would be nice.
