A 2004 Interview with Biden (from TPM)
http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/08/biden_interview_2004.php#more
This country NEEDS the intelligence, perspective and emotional maturity that Obama and Biden demonstrate. If we had the late '90's - 2000 McCain running, this would probably be the election with the best choices in my lifetime. I hope that McCain comes back to us by the debates, but I don't think we can infer that from the existing data points.

I disagree. If you look at history she's been more supportive of the winning nominiee than most failed candidates. She backed Obama months ago, that's actually pretty rare considering how well she did. The media is creating a false story.
I would like to agree with you, but the facts don;t support it....

How don't they support it? The fact is Hillary Clinton came out last night and made a speech throwing FULL support behind Obama and the media is STILL trying to portray a rift in the party. Jesse Jackson threatened to withhold his delegates in 1988 and Jerry Brown didn't even support Clinton in 1992. How many crazy Hillary supports have you seen on television these past few months? How many of them are screaming that they will never support Obama and may vote for McCain? Now compare that with the ACTUAL number of Hillary supporters that think this way. The press is desperately trying to do two things:
1. Portray a rift in the party.
2. Portray Obama as weak compared to the almighty Clintons.

So having fun with your own self-image in front of those who know who know you best is bad?
You obviously don't get the nuances of public speaking.
Even though it was a somewhat clever line, I was completely uncomfortable hearing it.

MSNBC, from a purely technical perspective, has had horrible coverage. Audio has consistently cut out the last two days. Yesterday they were coming out of interviews not knowing where they were going next. Tonight video feeds have been cutting out. They are in front of a train station and the train horn is consistently going off int he background.
I'm finding the MSNBC coverage quite entertaining, because it is so comical. WTF is up with the train whistle? And did you see the guy in the crowd with the giant Obama head? Creepy.

I hope that McCain comes back to us by the debates, but I don't think we can infer that from the existing data points.
If John McCain had actually won his party's nomination by thumbing his nose to the machine in charge as he has done in the past - by not cuddling up to Bush during the 2004 re-election - by winning over the Primary voters by being who he was in the late 90s - 2000, I would have had a very, very hard time not voting for him.
My only consolation is that if he wins, the "old" McCain might show up (not an age crack) and really doesn't govern from ideology - and then the Republicans will remember that the only real bi-partisan appeal he has is in pissing off both parties equally.
With luck, however, he is falling into the "entitlement" trap anyone that has ever run for a job that they feel they are best qualified for than anyone else - Al Gore, Bob Dole, Bush Sr. and Hillary Clinton all learned a lesson I'm hoping John McCain learns this November.
As for Bill Clinton's speech tonight, it was outstanding. This line alone shows how eloquent he can be when he chooses to do so:
"People around the world have always been more impressed by the power of our example than by the example of our power."
Kudos Big Dog.
I'm finding the MSNBC coverage quite entertaining, because it is so comical. WTF is up with the train whistle? And did you see the guy in the crowd with the giant Obama head? Creepy.
CNN is way too dull - the networks are unwatchable - Fox is an absolute abomination to anyone who actually cares about this country - so that leaves the dry PBS (which I do dig), the dryer C-Span, and finally MSNBC, which really does put on a show. It's like watching a football team, while listening to the home team cover it - it's just more fun. MAYBE I'll watch the GOP next week exclusvily on Fox (nah, but maybe.......nah).
At least their token Republicans (Mike Murphy, Joe Scarborough, Pat Buchanan) are the real fucking deals, and are comfortable speaking their minds, and don't feel the knee-jerk retardation to say something negative because they "ARE OF A DIFFERENT PARTY!" They can have conversation, they make great points and some of the best observations, and they sometimes have good things to say about the other side.

Like I said earlier, there's going to be a strong push to get Beau appointed to Showboatin' Joe's seat.
The problem is he's headed to Iraq in October.
The scenario my 'inside sources' are now telling me is that it's being mulled over about Minner taking the seat for two years, and having Joe's son run in the special election for it in 2010.

The funniest thing about her, is that I swear I haven't met anyone who's ever voted for her (except me...who am I going to vote for...Bill Lee...I've seen him drunk at the Starboard before), and yet she dominates in elections.

What we know about the man isn't much......or is it just enough?
There are many things one could argue Obama has going for him that make him a good choice to be leader of the free world:
He's Young
He's Clean
He's Fresh
He's Multicultural
He's Young
He's Young
I'll say this, when Obama is speaking with someone else's words scrolling quickly across a TelePrompTer, its just pure joy and nobody has ever done it better. Ever seen him answer anything without a TelePrompTer?
"ehhhhh, uhhhhh, ehhhhh."
Oh Obama, you're incorrigible.
SAVE US OBAMA !!!
SAVE US FROM OURSELVES !!!
I bet it would be easy for us to identify what accomplishments make Obama a superior candidate.......<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/PzFOOcEQtP0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/PzFOOcEQtP0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
OK, perhaps that wasn't fair and taken out of context because it was asked by FOX NEWS Sultan, Sean Hannity.

WOW, and that was asked to a Senator and professed Obama supporter directly. I would like to also point out that this evidence also refutes the claim that Matthews is in the tank for Obama.
Man, Obama has me convinced. I'll have some more KooL-Aide now please. Make sure its as red and sugary as Obama's leanings. MMMMMMMMMMM, delicious.
And how about his consistency on issues that matter most to us all, huhhhhhhh ???
How has Obama stood on his principles and word and stuck to his guns?
WELLLLLLLLLLLL, that's a bit tricky. You see, this Obama flip-flops more than Lantern-Jawed Jackass, John Kerry ever did. Wanna see the list so far?
THE WAR
In the earl part of 2007, the Democrats (with the GRAND CONSENSUS MAKER, Barrack Obama in tow) proposed a bill that if enacted, would pull out troops out of Iraq within 120 days. Keep in mind that this was happening as Congress was changing hands and the American voter was paying close attention. Less than a year earlier, Obama went on record as saying, "...A hard and fast arbitrary deadline for withdraw offers our commanders in the field and our diplomats in the region insufficient flexibility to implement strategy." HMMMMMMMM-----seems to be a flip-flop to me. Why though? It seems fairly obvious to me that Obama truly does not believe either way. He only believes what will get him elected. He believes that the consensus was to go that route and it worked. He's the Democratic candidate for the Presidency and has done so by flipping and flopping his way through this process. "I was against the war when it started..." Sure you were, Barrack. But you were a fledgling State Senator so who gives a crap?
FISA
Barrack was against the FISA Bill that would legalize warrant-less wiretaps, etc...and even went on to say, "...I'll filibuster against it." Now, he's somehow a supporter.....Why?
THE DEATH PENALTY FOR CHILD RAPIST
NAFTA FREE TRADE AGREEMENT
PUBLIC FINANCE REFORM
LEGAL IMMIGRATION
DECRIMINALIZATION OF MARIJUANA
Something we can all get behind, I know
MEETING / CONFERRING WITH IRAN
Which as we all know and put so eloquently by the esteemed Senator form Illinois, "...countries like Iran are tiny and pose no real threat to us." Does Obama really understand the world we currently live?
We all want change, right? Sure that answer is easy. We all want stability in the world, a healthy and robust economy, freedoms America can offer and the freedom to see a politician like Obama for what he truly is: An Empty Suit.
He has to move toward the center because the fringe candidate is a dangerous candidate. PSSSSST, Barrack------Listen, your whole fucking electorate is on the fringe. As an example, take a look at some of the sights and sounds we've seen come out of Denver. Jesus Christ, what a bunch of lunatics. "FUCK FOX NEWS?" "FOX NEWS FUCKING SUCKS!!!" Nice, normal, well-thought out and caring. To be honest, I've watched coverage on NBC, CNN, FOX, CBS and ABC and the story is all the same----Negative, Negative, Negative. Thinking back to the last convention, it was the same thing and I don't remember the Republicans acting that way on every major news source in America. One of the reason might be is that Republicans have jobs and were unable to 'protest' during the middle of a work-day. But I forgot, the senseless chanting of, 'Flip-Flop, Flip-Flop' is the same thing, right? Those democrats are so open-minded, compassionate, caring and kind.
I've also heard on a few occasions so far that, "...All the Republicans are war-mongers."
That seems sensible as well. Let's for a moment, examine a few of our nation's wars and see how war-mongering those dastardly Republicans really are.
WORLD WAR I. - President Woodrow Wilson (D). It was the right thing to do for us to get involved and to fight the terror on all fronts, after over 100 of our boys were killed when a German U-Boat sank a British ship. Good show, Woodrow.
WORLD WAR II. - President Franklin Roosevelt (D). Ole' Roly-Poly was such a kind hearted man and caring too. Remember after Pearl Harbor, it was the compassionate Roosevelt who interned over 150,000 Japanese American as well as 10,000 German and Italian Americans. Germany and Italy didn't even attack us, but it was necessary to help fight terror on all fronts. We fought so hard, FDR almost jumped right up out of his chair. Some say he steered us out of the Great Depression. The rest of the world got out of the mess quick, but one could argue that the high taxes and social meddling of the FDR administration prolonged the Great Depression. Thanks, Frank.
KOREAN CONFLICT - President Harry S. Truman (D). He gets no love for being the leader during the forgotten war and sadly has become a forgotten President. Ever hear of the Marshall Plan? One of the bright points of an otherwise forgetful presidency. Also, his use of nuclear weapons was just awesome, wasn't it? Regardless if he could pronounce the word, 'nuclear,' one thing is clear------I bet harry Truman knew how many states there were when he alive, ********unlike someone else we know.***********
VIETNAM - President Lyndon Johnson (D). He actually accomplished more than most Presidents. He actually accomplished more than most Presidents. Certainly more than that awful JFK would have ever done. And don't kid yourself, if JFK has lived long enough, he would have steered us directly toward war as well. LBJ ALL THE WAY!!!!!
Yeah you're right, Republicans are War-Mongers.
For most Americans, the view of the world changed drastically after 9/11. Thanks in large part to the Clinton bunch, we were attacked by Osama Bin Laden on that horrible day. Let us not forget, it wasn't the first attack and ALL prior Bin Laden attacks came under the Clinton watch. Need a list? ---- didn't think so.
Yeah, its true, Clinton had that man's head on a platter on more than one occasion and according to the 9/11 commission, there were large amounts of proof that under the Clinton administration, we were surveilling Al-Queda and Bin Laden for years. Even in 1998, Slick Willy was quoted as saying, "We will use all the means at our disposal to bring those responsible to justice, no matter what or how long it takes." I guess after the first World Trade Center Bombing as well as the attack on the USS Cole, it just could not be accomplish by Brother Bill. “We were not prepared to take the military action necessary,” said retired Gen. Wayne Downing. “We should have had strike forces prepared to go in and react to this intelligence, certainly cruise missiles — either air- or sea-launched — very, very accurate, could have gone in and hit those targets,” Downing added. I forgot though as many left-wing lunatic bumper stickers proudly and so incorrectly proclaim, 'WHEN CLINTON LIED, NOBODY DIED.' Tell that to the employees and innocent victims of that factory Clinton ordered a cruise missile into while trying to divert our attention away from his legacy as a president-------The Monica Lewinsky Episode. Over 3000 Americans dead on 9/11, Bill----thanks a lot for your service to our country and thanks also for trying to claim credit for the economic success of the 1990s. Did you forget about the Republican Revolution in the Senate during your administration who really made this happen?
We do however; have the ability to debate this and make a choice as to what is real and what is revised with our history. You see, its all about choice.
And what a great choice it was to choose Joe Biden. Don't let that tan fool you----he's not actually an outdoorsmen. This is a pussy----Delaware style. This loser has gone on record countless times against Obama, particularly during the heated primary season. Check this clip out:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/RDVUPqoowf8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/RDVUPqoowf8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
But now that its all over, I guess that was just two friends play acting. Additionally, Biden has gone on record for years singing the praises of John McCain.
Let's watch how quickly that changes. Obama/Biden---the Jackal ticket for change, neither man can define.
The bottom line is that we do know plenty about Obama and that is what is so scary. He simply is not the man for the job. That being said, it is going to be fun to watch him close the show at the horrendous display of unity that is the DEMOCRATIC CONVENTION.
In conclusion, I ask you all to use some logic when selecting a candidate. Go with the man with experience. Go with a man that can answer questions and a man who does stand on principles. A man who will lead us to energy independence, a man who will make us safer, a man who can put a sense of honor back into the tainted White House that was soiled by the Clintons and wiped with by the Bush Bunch.
OBAMA IS NOT THE MAN IN 08'.
I'd also like to point out that Michelle Obama is not running for office, so I refuse to talk about her. She's not worth the effort nor do I believe it is fair to write about her actions and words.
Here are some supplemental materials detailing the brilliance that is, Barrack Obama.
HIS FRIENDS
William Ayers - Ayers was a would-be murderer of soldiers and policemen, but he wasn't a very good terrorist. He had the ill fortune to be the subject of a profile in the New York Times on September 11, 2001, in which he said that he didn't regret his attempted murders and only wished that he had planted more bombs.
Rev. Wright - Pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ. Obama first lied when he said he never heard the Reverend say controversial things in church. he later came clean about it and has now distanced himself from the Rev.---Why? Because Rev. Wright is a fucking maniac and so is Obama. It took the press holding his feet to the fire and proving he was lying to admit it. I guess its only a problem when you get caught. The Clintonian/Edwards syndrome has stricken Obama.
Tony Rezko - Rezko Was Convicted Of Wire And Mail Fraud, Money Laundering, And Aiding And Abetting Bribery. He is a slum lord who help Obama obtain property for housing in Chicago. Oh, he's also great friend and a HUUUUGE fund raiser.
Nice bunch, right?

In April 2002, Obama Dismissed an Abortion Bill by saying, "...adding an additional doctor, who then has to be called in an emergency room situation to come in and make these assessments is rally designed simply to burden the original decision of the woman and the decision to induce labor and perform an abortion." One could argue that Obama is OK with the death of a baby when a botched abortion takes place. But, that's the Democratic party. Its NOT OK to kill someone if they commit a murder, but it is OK for a woman to choose to kill a baby. Just such a caring party...
But as we all know now by Barrack Obama's own words, "...If my 14 year old got pregnant, I don't want to burden her with a baby..."
WOW-----what a compassionate, kind hearted and caring man.
RACE
Barrack is NOT black. Barrack is NOT white. Barrack is a mix of the two. Obviously, Barrack has two sets of Grandparents, the whites and the blacks. Maybe I'm pointing out the obvious because like Barrack Obama's Grandmother, I am a "Typical White Person."

Also, I'd like to point out that Michelle Obama is not running for President, so dragging her many controversial comments is not fair and should not be a determining factor when deciding who our President is.
Will Obama win? I think he will.
Will it be a dark day in our nation's history when he does? In more ways than one.
The Obama fad is played out, its over------use your head and vote for the man with experience......
SAY NO TO OBAMA
He's not our man.
I'd read that, but I'm pretty sure my body would decompose before I finish.
Plus, it looks like the 18 chain e-mails I get a day compiled into some super 'Obama..oooooooooooo, bad!' post.

Honestly, I watched the Fox News coverage of the convention, and I don't think it's that bad. I'm an independant mind you. I went through a phase of being a person with very conservative views to becoming a person with conservative ideas on goverment (small government mainly) and liberal ideas on social issues (ie. gay marriage, abortion).

Yeah, those polls are always accurate, just ask President Kerry. I like how i seemingly magically changes 9% in 2 months for no apparent reason.
Honestly, I watched the Fox News coverage of the convention, and I don't think it's that bad.
You're kidding, right? Because in all of the years I've watched them it's never seen worse. Hannity, O'Reilly and Porn-lover Brit Hume have been foaming at the mouth all week - critical because the DNC isn't acting like the GOP - which, of course, if they had that would have been the Fox narrative. An obsession with the Clintons that is creepy, all because they didn't get their way and get the candidate they wanted.
Everyone in the media who make it sound like the job was Sen. Clintons for the taking keeps forgetting to tell people that there is 49% of Americans who will never vote for Hillary under any circumstance! The media actually knows this, but it doesn't help feed the narrative, which is to try and undercut the messages of this week - and Fox is the biggest offender. And instead of talking to the people who this is actually for (the Democrats), Karl Rove gets wall to wall coverage.

The story about his mom telling him after a bloodied nose to go bloody that boy so he could hold his head high was total gold.
But her reaction of "it's true"....but even better than that.
She actually did the "it's true" a couple of times during his speech, and every time it was just as endearing. I have moved from satisfied in the Biden pick to thrilled - Sen. Obama's choice was right on so many levels - this is now a ticket that I feel proud to vote for, all the way around, and I've never really felt that in any election I've voted in, since 1985.
He compliments Obama in their core values - brings experience that any party's ticket would welcome - we know he will speak his mind, and that speaks volumes to Obama's confidence that he can have different points of view in his administration - and it's just NICE that the two actually get along.
I was actually sold during Beau Biden's speech, before his dad came out - one where he didn't go into specifics about his own deployment to Iraq (and I'm sure most Americans aren't even aware of that) - but still one which even moved Michelle Obama to tears.

I firmly believe that the media is aggressively (and deceptively) trying to create a narrative that: a. Hillary Clinton is/was potentially going to hijack the convention b. Barack Obama is weak compare to the almighty Clintons.
I do not think this is a vast conservative conspiracy to destroy the democrats, I simply think they are trying to create news where there is none.
Why on earth would I trust MSM polls that back support their make-believe narrative? Also, please explain the 9% increase between June and August. What happened in that period of time that would constitute a 9% increase?
There are definitely people who support Clinton that would NEVER support Obama and would even go as far as voting for McCain. I'm sure there's an accurate % of those numbers somewhere, but I'm not going to trust the MSM for that number.

I'll watch FOX because I think I have a slight masochist streak. I like to torture myself.
Watching Hannity trot out, of all the possible relevant people at the DNC, Michael F'n Dukakis, just so he could beat him up about shit from 20 years ago was almost embarassing (although Dukakis was a bit sharper than I would have thought).
It's so obvious that they pick out the worst 'liberals' they could possible fine (Susan Estrich, Bob Beckel, Pat Caddel, ALAN COLMES), so Hannity can play Muhammed Ali to their George Wepner.

I think it's less conspiracy than just plain laziness. The press went in with the handy narrative that the Clintons are going to wreck the convention, and don't want to step outside of it.
I found this story to be very interesting this morning. The data is in and apparently the infamous Vice President hit 2.9 million phones last Saturday morning (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/technology/2008/08/obamas-vp-text.html).
You can debate the validity of the experiment, but honestly I think it was a stroke of genius....the campaign now has 2.9 million cell phone numbers. On November 4th, there will be 2.9 million cell phones getting a reminder to "get out and vote".
I wish more campaigns were creative like that.

people are fickle. if you poll today, i'm sure obama's numbers are up (and some of those will be for ridiculous reasons like they thought biden's mom was cute). most people shouldn't be allowed to vote (and i'd likely include myself in that majority before someone accuses me of elitism).

It's laziness to a degree, but they also know if they prod long enough, they'll get someone to say something, and then they can dig in.
Someone called Chris Matthews on it last night, and it was hilarious to watch him fake outrage, as if his journalistic integrity had been offended.
...then he proceeded to absolutely meltdown after Biden's speech into one giant crying mess, talking about 'the guy from the neighborhood'. That was just cringe inducing.

Up to a 6% lead, polling reflecting up to the night of Hillary's speech. Tomorrow's poll should reflect Bill's/Biden's

Man, that makes sense. At the start of the year, "Morning Joe" was actually a fun watch, but now that MSNBC has been stung with criticism of drinking the Obama Kool-Aid, they often go overboard in the other direction to prove they aren't in the tank. I hope a strong hand comes down soon - the quality of the reporting and tech really have shown them to be flaying badly.
That said, giving Rachael her own show is one of the better ideas.

"We will have diverted all that money to address the least likely threat while the real threats come into this country in the hold of a ship, or the belly of a plane, or are smuggled into a city in the middle of the night in a vial in a backpack,"
- Joe Biden, September 10, 2001.
The context was that he (http://thinkprogress.org/2008/08/27/flashback-biden-on-91001-warned-the-real-threat-may-come-in-the-belly-of-a-plane/) felt the Bush administration was spending too much on missile defense in a world in which that should not have been our major concern.

Tomorrow is horrible timing for that announcement.
Tomorrow is the perfect time for that. It takes the attention away from Obama's speech. Do you think McCain should let Obama's clips run unfettered all weekend? No. Frankly, if McCain wasnt such a gentleman, he would have let it leak tonight or would have announced it today. It is the best timing for that announcement.
I kinda the Right Wing chorus actually secretly wants Obama to win.
It would make their jobs a lot easier to take pot shots at the Democrats making tough decisions rather than denying/defending the trainwreck that this regime has wrought.
I bet we'll see more of that kind of sentiment made, especially with regards to something like Fox News ("Because it makes their jobs easier"), but in all honesty they did a pretty good job the last eight years - my favorite point still being when they continued to blame the Democrats for everything, even though the GOP controlled the white house, both houses of congress and the supreme court.
I remember hearing something like that when the Dems lost in 2000 and 2004 and I never buy it - these are people who like power. I think there can be times when individuals, like Bush Sr. in 1992 and Dole in 1996, who don't really have it in their gut.

HA!
I just heard this from the Republicans on MSNBC (Pat Buchanan and Morning Joe) that the luckiest son of a bitch in the world today is the one McCain passed over for the VP job.
His announcement to a "crowd" of 10,000 people, most of whom he's having to bus in, is going to look small and weak compared to what the world watched last night. Neither of the big name Veep choices really get people as jazzed as the Biden pick did last week; last night's shadow, as well as this past week, will continue to hang over McCain and the news cycle all weekend, and will be the top story on all of the Sunday morning shows this weekend.
The good news for McCain is that his convention gets to go second - he may not want to follow something like last night, but he sure as hell doesn't want that to be the last word.

I think that might be a bit much, but if you think it was mediocre then you don't understand the art of public speaking.

No. Frankly, if McCain wasnt such a gentleman, he would have let it leak tonight or would have announced it today. It is the best timing for that announcement.
It would be if....
Seriously the calendar and events fucked the Republicans pretty hard on this one. Obama played out the Olympics and avoided making an announcement until after the Olympics closed. McCain wanted to wait until after Obama made his pick. Both of those things are logical.
So the Dems ride the convention, which they deliver damned near perfectly and will own the media discussion this weekend in light of that speech, on the anniversary of "I have a dream".
McCain absolutely HAS to announce Pawlenty today or tomorrow and the hurricane may hit either day. Pawlenty isn't sexy or exciting as a pick, so the announcement at best will hold a third to half of the media attention.

I actually thought it was a very good speech. I wasn't expecting Obama to pull out the chalkboard and detail his plans. I thought he made it clear that he was going to cut tax breaks to the wealthy and pass them along to the middle class and as always, his speaking skills were incredible. I wouldn't say it was Reagan 80 level, but Clinton 92 level? Maybe. That being said, Olbermann and Matthews were really annoying.

I can bother fighting it if I want to, because I've also been there - quite often, actually.

But why? Republicans shine in severe weather.
You know what? It's easy to take potshots at Bush, but I am so sick and tired of people using Katrina to destroy Bush.
What happened with Hurricane Katrina was 40 percent Nagin's fault, 40 percent Blanco's fault, and 20 percent Bush's. It was a failure on ALL LEVELS of Government, but the majority of the blame falls on Nagin and Blanco.

This is the first time I've ever seen Joe Scarborough. He looks like Conan O'Brien with Down Syndrome.

Joe Scarborough is a weird guy. There are times that he decides to play right wing political pundit, and there are times that he shoots from the hip.
When he's a "pundit" he's just another head. When he's shooting from the hip he can be outstanding. Normally on election nights he puts on the "straight shooter" hat and delivers some of the best analysis in the business.

MSNBC's increasingly paranoid Keith Olbermann is threatening to quit unless his bosses beef up his security, sources say.
Olbermann - upset to be anchoring at the Democratic National Convention from an outdoor set near Denver's train station - "announced that his bosses [had] better find a more secure location for him to broadcast from at the Republican National Convention [in St. Paul, Minn.] or he's not going," one insider said. "He thinks someone will assassinate him." MSNBC had no comment.
I realize its Page Six, but it does seem to fit with the notion that Keith is suffering from paranoid delusions...
Seriously I used to love Countdown...actually so much that if you search you'll see a post I made complaining when MSNBC was taken off XM. Now it's unwatchable.
I watched all three cable outlets after the speech last night. CNN & Fox were both free with praise for Obama, but it was analysis...Keith and Chris on the other hand were just smitten and remided me of two girls fawning over the dreamy captain of the football team.
...and as a complete aside...O'Reilly is awful...haven't seen him in forever until last night...just a despciable human being.

And he did much better with the Cedar Rapids, Iowa floods earlier this year (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iowa_flood_of_2008).

I think there were checks and balances there to prevent what happened with Katrina. Bush putting FEMA in the Department of Homeland Security and appointing an unqualified person to head it disrupted that. I agree that full blame doesn't fall on Bush, but he's more than 1/5th responsible.

FEMA's main job is to coordinate with the local levels of government. When you have a moron running FEMA dealing with a moron running the state and a bigger moron running the city, what did you think was going to happen?

Exactly, but I think the failure of FEMA falls squarely on the shoulders of Bush (the Bush Administration). I don't blame Bush 100%, but I think knocking him for the response is justified.

The problem with Katrina was, and this was just my public perception, you saw everything going down on TV, people dying in hospitals, all the to-do about what was going on in the Superdome, people screaming for help on TV, people stuck on top of houses, criminals taking over, etc. etc. and I know I was screaming at the television after the 2nd day.... just going "WTF??!!" I was shocked that in our country, people would be languishing like that for days.
How many days was it before the Federal Govt stepped in? I understand the duty first falls to the State and Local govt... but when that obviously fails, I would have we have backup coming in from the Feds.
The second that anarchy started getting broadcast on television for the world to see, we should have had backup in there, immediately.
And stuff like this didn't help (enjoying birthday cake while a gigantic natural disaster is going down):

And FEMA is almost always headed by a unqualified person. Joe Albaugh was the head of FEMA for 9/11 and there wasn't much talk about him being unqualified, because he certainly was. The only head with emergency managament experience was Clinton's guy.
edit: man this is a real tangent...

I bet I could do a better job running FEMA. I'll just scream and order everyone around.

FEMA is a goverment agency staffed by career goverment employees. You wouldn't be able to get them to do shit. :)

I'll just poke them in the ribs, repeatedly, REALLY hard. That gets Jeff moving off the couch pretty fast. I will go down in history as the best head of FEMA ever.

James Lee Witt was great as the head of FEMA.

The problem was that pre-Katrina there was no model for the Feds to follow. It had always been up to the Sate with the Feds acting as a back up. So, when the state failed the Feds were left standing with their thumbs up their proverbial asses. A good leader could have improvised a plan...but of course leadership was vacant.
In a post-katrina world we hope things will be different. ...oh yeah...make sure you buy flood insurance...its cheap and effective...

whats this gay country horseshit they are playing? They shouldve played that U2 song about MLK
perhaps a jab at bush?
Brooks & Dunn's "Only In America" was also used by George W. Bush's campaigns in 2004
I think it bears repeating that the "house band" at the convention the other night sucked ass. That was awful when they played "Pink Houses" and just repeated only the line "Ain't that America" over and over again.
And I suspect that it won't be any better at the GOP convention.

I worked in a call center for FEMA following Katrina. A lot of people were telling me they were denied or not allowed to purchase flood insurance.

The funny thing is when you put someone in the floodplain they try like hell to get out of it. Nobody wants to pay flood insurance, and it's NOT included with your home insurance.
