Umm, my opening day in SF Isnt looking too good. It's raining right now with 100% chance of rain at game time.

At least the ballpark has a few good bars around it where I can wait it out.

Since we are on the topic of schedules, I would like to point out what a bunch of douches the San Francisco Giants front office are.

Each team that opens the season get 4 days to play the first 3 games. Since it is April, most team scheduled Monday, and left Tuesday or Wednesday open in case of weather. Not San Francisco as they chose to play Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday so that they could squeeze in an extra exhibition game against the Dodgers on Sunday and give their guys a day off.

Now it is scheduled to rain/hail this afternoon in San Francisco and the game is in serious jeopardy of cancellation, which would cause a future doubleheader/or loss of a day off during the grind of the season when those days are valuable. So much for playing on Monday to create a buffer for weather.

Add to this, Thursday is the get-away day and normally is scheduled as a day game for the visiting team. The Giants decided to start their game that day at 4:05 on the West Coast instead of playing a 1pm game like most teams. Why does that suck? After travel, the Brewers should be back in Milwaukee by 2-3am for their home opener at 3pm on Friday against the Cubs.

Seriously, the Giants are a dogshit organization.

but they play in such a lovely stadium. Besides, the Brewers can check out The Castro district if they are bored.

It was fun watching Volquez throw tonight for the Reds. He's silly looking and had 4 good innings, too bad he lost his control in the fifth tonight.

One of the best things in baseball is watching a pitcher have a good night. I hate his guts for what he does to us, but Derrick Lowe is another one that just amazes me.

And I want to point out to Snoogans that was a perfect National League moment. The #7 hitter doubles, so the dugout calls for the pitcher to intentionally walk the #8 hitter to face the pitcher.

Then of course, National League magic.

Eh, I figured Gregg was going to blow at least a few saves this season. I'd still rather keep Marmol out of the closer role unless absolutely necessary. In the end, even if Gregg tanks he'll still be a class A free agent after this season and net them some choice picks.

All I'm glad with today is how well Harden did and that Bradley finally got a hit. Now if we could just Lee out of the #3 spot...

Closers blow saves. Expecting them never to do it simply isn't realistic. Anyone thinking that a closer blowing the 4th game of the season is indicative of a trend is clearly mentally unstable.

They didn't offer Wood arbitration because there was apparently a good chance he would have accepted it and that would have potentially ended up pretty expensive coupled with his injury risks. There's no way Gregg wouldn't be offered arbitration.

That's the upside of Gregg...even if Gregg is awful this seaosn, he's almost a lock to get a better deal elsewhere due to his age and his past success as a closer. Howry was clearly hitting the end of his career and was out of gas.

A lot of players weren't as big as they can get now, but a lot of it is also how creepily tight those uniforms were. Nobody wears it like that anymore, thank God.

Baggy uniform are where it's at, like it was back in the day. Plus the 70's and 80's were when most players stopped wearing high socks, the bastards.

The Marlins are DEFINITELY for real. Their starting pitching is ridiculous, and with the speed they have in that lineup they will run teams to death.

If they can refrain from making to stupid defensive mistakes that cost them games last year, and Lindstrom holds up, they've got a really good shot to be there at the end of the season.

First, how the hell does Mojo start a baseball thread without pictures of the World Series Champions?

Second, I'm ready to predict five of the six divisions right now. I won't predict the NL West yet, until Manny signs with either the Dodgers or Giants.

*- denotes Wild Card

NL East
1. Phillies
2. Mets
3. Marlins
4. Braves
5. Nationals

NL Central
1. Cubs
2. Astros*
3. Cardinals
4. Reds
5. Brewers
6. Pirates

NL West
TBD

AL East
1. Yankees
2. Rays*
3. Red Sox
4. Blue Jays
5. Orioles

AL Central
1. Indians
2. Royals
3. Twins
4. White Sox
5. Tigers

AL West
1. Angels
2. Athletics
3. Rangers
4. Marines

how can you leave the red sox out of the playoffs?

Ellsbury just straight up stole home Benny "The Jet" Rodrigeuz style. It was pretty bad ass, even for a dirty Red Sox player.

The Phillies may have lost tonight, but Jimmy Rollins made a couple of sick plays at shortstop. If he doesn't win the Gold Glove in the National League its a joke.

gold glove is a joke markakis led the al in outfield assists last year and didnt win it

In American baseball, the Rawlings Gold Glove Award, usually referred to simply as the Gold Glove, is the award given annually to the Major League Baseball player judged to have the most "superior individual fielding performance" at each position (in each league), as voted by the managers and coaches in each league.[1] Managers are not allowed to vote for their own players.[1] Eighteen Gold Gloves are awarded each year (with the exception of 1985 and 2007), one at each of nine positions to a player in both the National League and American League.

Sucks it's decided more or less by a popularity contest because there's no way to ensure that the managers are actually going to vote for the best player.

Dodgers win 1-0 on a 9th inning bases loaded walk.

I love a pitcher's duel.

Cardinals win again. They're now 17-7 with the best record in baseball and a 4.0 game lead over the second place Reds.

That's pretty much all you need to know about where the season is at right now.
