Okay, why are we even putting Derek Jeter/Mark Teixeira in the same sentence as Nick Johnson? First off, Tex is notorious for slow starts. All players go through slumps, even great ones. I'm willing to be patient with players who I KNOW will eventually start hitting the ball. What point in Nick Johnson's injury-riddled career tells you he's even half the hitter Matsui was? Or in the same conversation as Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter? Nick Johnson is a career .270 hitter and has ONE 20 HR season in 10 years.

Fact is, Nick Johnson was brought in as a hopeful apology for slacking on talks with Matsui, because Brian Cashman was too preoccupied with Johnny Damon (for God knows what reason). I'd love to know if any team in history has ever let a player go immediately coming off a World Series MVP... Now we're paying Johnson virtually the same money Matsui is getting from LA, to be a designated hitter. Designated HITTER. Not designated walker/slow baserunner. I understand as the #2 hitter, his job is to get on base, but have you been watching the games lately? Pitchers are now adjusting to the fact that he's not hitting the ball and simply attacking the zone. Now he's striking out constantly, watching balls fall right down the middle. The guy was pinch hit for last night. Our DESIGNATED HITTER was pinch hit for.

Maybe he can earn his way back to the #2 spot eventually, but right now, he just shouldn't be there at all.

The problem is... there's a log jam. There's just too much talent. The infield is set for at least the next three years, Granderson's gonna be your CF... someone's gonna have to get traded for Montero to come up, unless Jorge becomes the permanent DH, a la Matsui, and then it's a Cervelli/Montero platoon when Jesus is officially a rookie.

Well, considering that all the pitchers love working with Cervelli, do you have a solution for next year? If Cervelli keeps up a level of production even CLOSE to what he's doing now, it's going to be hard to keep him as a backup C. What I'm guessing is Posada as the full-time DH with some appearances at 1B or C, with Cervelli catching 100 games and Montero catching the other 60.

While this event will serve as the Stadium's first official concert, JAY-Z has previously performed at Yankee Stadium, singing his hit "Empire State of Mind" with Alicia Keys on October 29, 2009, prior to the Yankees' 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 2 of the World Series.
