Opps, Congressman Paul. I get those mixed up.

Just put him in google news and "Call him a nut‎ " came up first.

Herman Cain has a plan for everything. They are all written on the backs of food placemats.

It's hilarious that the Republican Party thinks Rick Perry is electable in any sense. If his performance in a debate with President Obama is like that, he's gonna get shredded.

http://www.liveimagephoto.com/2011/10/herman-cains-999-problem.html

If you have a family of four with an income of just under $50,000, they could end up paying more under the Cain plan. Currently, they are taxed around $3,850 in income tax. Under Cain’s plan, they would be taxed at 9 percent or pay $4,500. That’s $650 more.

Although the family would save almost $4,000 in Social Security taxes, it would have to give up the child tax credit worth the same amount. Furthermore, it would pay an additional national sales tax of 9 percent on everything purchased, including groceries and clothes, which totals about $2,000.

That means under the Cain plan that family could end up paying $2,725 more.

Raise the taxes on the lower/middle lower/middle/middle upper classes so the taxes on the upper/rich can be lower. Makes sense in an economy with very little aggregate demand -- reduce the demand caused by the largest consumer bloc. All because some dude wants to sell pizzas or something at $9.99? I wish Jared from Subway would come along and start pitching a $5 plan

The failure of the "9-9-9" plan, to me, is that it imposes a national sales tax while keeping an income tax. Now, I think plans that attempt to replace income tax with sales tax are crazy anyway, but this is completely nuts. At least in a plan that completely trashed income taxes in favor of a national sales tax, the fact that income taxes are no longer being withheld from your pay could kind of make up for that additional expense. But if you're still getting income tax withheld and you have to pay 9% more sales tax anyway, I don't see how anyone comes out ahead. And remember that Cain's plan makes no exceptions for things like food or vital services, like many state sales taxes do.

And the third "9", the tax on "business income", is so vague that a lot of economists have concluded that it's basically going to end up being a Value Added Tax, tacked onto the price of goods and services before they get to you. In other words, you'll be paying that shit too.

This idiot should stick to making shitty pizza.

Misteriosa
10-17-2011, 07:44 AM
if i understand this 9-9-9 plan correctly, i would have to pay an additional 9% on items on top of the 8.3ish% nys sales tax? because thats a lot of money.

That too -- businesses will be paying an additional tax on anything they buy which means that cost will be passed onto the consumer. Your $1 widget that costs $1.05 in taxes will now cost more like $1.30 after all is said and done. The 9-9-9 plan is just a talking point and if it were to actually be the new tax code, we'd all move closer toward the poverty line from it.

dude, lutheranism branched from Christianity
Methodism branched from Christianity
now even the Episcopolians have branched
and accept gay cocksuckers as priests
(wait...so do the Catholics)

they are all versions of Christianity

as long as you have Jesus, your a Christian

"Christian" comes from the word "Chist" duh

But pretty much the biggest difference in doctrine among all of those is whether or not Mary is king shit. Otherwise, the differences are mostly procedural.

Mormonism adds an entire new layer of doctrine, comparable to the layer that the followers of Jesus added to Judaism.

Yeah, that whole thing of adding another book to the Bible offends a lot of fundamentalists, particularly those who believe that the Bible should be taken literally. I mean, if the Bible is perfect and without error already, why suddenly tack a whole other book onto it.

My feeling is most of them will hold their nose and vote for Romney if it comes to that, because he's a little more like them than Obama (guess why), but it would be a very un-motivated base. The passion and fervor of the Tea Party will be lost if the candidate is Romney.

But I would argue that Obama was elected by voters who don't want religion to dictate government policy, and as long as he made it clear to them that his administration would not impose any sort of religious doctrine on government, they decided they could live with whatever his personal religious beliefs might be.

On the other hand, Romney must appeal to voters who want the government to be run according to instructions given in the Bible. So his religion is much more of a big deal than Obama's, I'd say.

Only to the conservative pundits and their minions. To everyone else that wasn't a factor, and rightly so.

But Mormonism can be traced back to an exact, recent date to when it started. Any serious questioning is warranted, because if someone is gullible to fall for that story, and be proud of it - that seriously hinders their image.

Mormons are just too weird to be accepted on a mass scale of our population.

Cain continues to belittle women and immigrants and has even admitted his 999 plan would hit the middle class hard. That will kill his chances in the end.

The guys who are at the bottom of the list (except Bachmann) look better than the frontrunners, but that's because the Republicans are pandering to their hard core base. It'll be their undoing.

I agree the guy that has been in last place all along, seems to be the most levelheaded. However Jon Huntsman is also Mormon.

why Perry's job bill is shit:

The governor’s jobs plan is to open more of the US to energy exploration and production.

He promises that such a policy will create 1.2 million new jobs. When I heard this, it seemed to me utterly implausible: the US oil and gas industry employs 2.1 million today, coal under 100,000 – and these at a time of high prices and active production. 50% more jobs on top of that? In a capital-intense industry?

Michael Levi of the Council on Foreign Relations checked Gov. Perry’s math on the Atlantic website. Here’s what he found:

1) The promise of 1.2 million new jobs is subject to a deadline of … 2030! These are not new jobs that would be created in the here and now, but over a long timeline of future production.

2) The promise is also subject to a bold prediction that energy prices, high now, will rise even higher over the next 18 years, oil to $180 / barrel in today’s money, natural gas to $12 per thousand cubic feet. That might happen, but then again, it might not. After all, Perry is hoping for a big increase in energy supply. Remember what happens to price as supply rises?

3) The plan rests upon heroic assumptions about the multiplier effect of oil and gas jobs. Fewer than 400,000 of Perry’s 1.2 million promised jobs will take the form of new hires by the oil and gas industry. The great balance are supposed to come from the – ahem – stimulative effects of oil and gas production. Specifically, he assumes that every 1 new job in production will support 2.5 new jobs somewhere else.

But wait a minute. The precondition for the entire estimate is an assumption that energy prices more than double in real terms over the next 18 years. If that assumption holds, we’re going to see a reverse-multiplier effect, with higher energy prices destroying many more jobs than are produced by oilworkers spending their money at the mall.

In other words: Perry’s 1.2 million figure is not a net figure. If he’s right about the energy outlook, then his 1.2 million new energy-related jobs will hardly begin to offset a much larger number of energy-related job losses.

4) The biggest kicker of them all comes from this question: how new are Perry’s jobs really? Suppose we don’t elect Rick Perry president. Suppose we just continue on the present policy path. What happens to those 1.2 million jobs in that case? And the answer is: many of them show up anyway. Perry hypothesizes that the Obama administration will impose future regulations to inhibit the development of the gas-fracking industry in the US – and then counts as “new” jobs the jobs that would come by not imposing those as-yet-nonexistent regulations. Likewise he counts as “new” jobs the jobs that would come from approval of pipelines to Canadian oil sands. Yet those approvals are roaring ahead anyway.

Last thought:

Where’d Perry get these numbers?

Answer: he found them in a pre-existing study conducted for the American Petroleum Institute. (That same study also undergirds the Senate Republicans’ job plan.)

You’ve got to ask though: if a candidate’s entire jobs plan depends on taking a single industry’s policy wish list, tearing off the cover sheet, and putting his own name on the work, without even bothering to net out the costs and benefits for the whole US economy – how serious is that candidate?

As we’ve seen throughout the Perry campaign the answer is: not very.

Do you understand that as oil prices rise jobs will be lost due to reduced consumer demand because more people pay a larger part of their salary toward transportation costs? be it on gas in their car or the extra cost of shipping goods? That is where you're blinded by your partisan rage and are so damn eager to toe the Republican line on alternative energy.

We've already used over half of the oil in the world, even according to the IEA which traditionally uses more liberal estimates on reserves (http://www.csmonitor.com/World/Global-Issues/2010/1111/International-Energy-Agency-says-peak-oil-has-hit.-Crisis-averted). The looming energy crisis can't simply be prayed away or drilled away, renewable energy is the only way to go.

Also, before you say "YEAH WELL COAL" just remember that a run of the mill coal fired power plant uses around 15,000 tons of coal daily and a run of the mill coal train can carry just about 15,000 tons of coal. All those trains run on diesel fuel. Diesel fuel which has to be refined, which uses electricity, which uses oil. Coal fired trains aren't the answer, either, due to lack of motive power and high water usage.

Short sighted people like you who are deathly afraid of change are why America is going to nosedive to 2nd world status as oil prices continue to climb. But, hey, at least you and Rush got to rage plenty against Solyndra :drunk:

Well played? His answer to rising costs is to use MORE EXPENSIVE energy.

Yeah because oil is totes going to stay the same price forever, Rush said we just need to drill baby drill

There are 20 billion barrels of proven reserves in the US; we use 19 million barrels of oil a day at current rate. That's just about 3 years of oil if we extracted every bit of oil. Our current production rate is about 10 million barrels per day. Even a 50% increase in production still leaves us with a major shortfall and a 100% increase in production barely leaves us any room to stockpile in case of natural disasters limiting production. Oh and before I forget, remember that any increase in production will increase our oil usage from the steel used to create the drilling equipment to the plastic used by the workers to the oil used to move all the men and material into place.

So, why again do you want to paint America into a corner? Rush is going to die from his hillbilly heroin addiction sooner rather than later and hopefully by then you'll wake up. The answer isn't in dead end resources. The more we use our cheap oil now to create renewable energy, the better the payoff in the future. The more energy we have available to change our transportation grid to be more natural gas friendly or to use the Fischer-Tropsch method to turn coal and waste biomass into oil.

I know it's difficult to think about things that far into the future, but remember the rallying cry of the Tea Party about not dumping debt onto our future generations. Why would we want to leave them with no debt, but also no electricity? You can't make assault rifles without electricity, and that means there will be no freedom or low taxes.

There's no ideal storage solution for a post-oil world. Ethanol requires different pipelines. Fuel cells either require rare metals (e.g. platinum) or they're borax based which creates excessive heat.

Solar is a method of energy production, not sure if you got thin film solar panels confused with batteries?

While the person I want to be the nominee wont get the nod. The eventual nominee will have so much to run on against Obama. Failed war in Afghanistan, Fast and Furious, Solyndra the continuing bad economy etc. It can be are you better off than you were trillions of dollars ago?

PS as a ron Paul supporter what was up with that eyebrow in the debates last week.

I stated in the past that i like to give the President 3 year before I judge.

The 4th year is all about getting re elected.

Obama all in all has been a pretty weak president in my book.

He is too passive and tries too hard to please everyone.

Campaign Obama and President Obama are mirror oppisites.

He has battled a lot of things like and unreasonable opposition.

One i think fueled even more by a decent % of racisem. If you do not think that is the case then its YOU that has blinders on.

As WF stated, he had majority for 2 years and could not get his own party in line.

Say what you want to say abouy GWB but when he needed to get his party in line, he had no problem with ripping them a new ahole.

He got anything he wanted passed with a smaller majority than Obama had.

That being said, i still do not see him losing.

If this was 4years ago and McCain ran against this Obama, he proably wins.

Though Palin was a HUGE mistake that he got bullied into by the dummies who wanted the hilary votes.

And i hate to break it to you.

Black voters don't really give a shit about religion for the most part.

Not saying they don't practice, just saying they don't let it make choices for them like white folks mainly southerners.

The religious views of black and Hispanic voters are a very large reason why the gay marriage stuff doesn't pass in California. If it has enough power there, do you really think the southerners don't vote based on it?

Dude!

They didn't vote for it based on they think its nasty not religion.

And I said it would be a factor in the south but Dens don't do well there anyway so not a huge deal

His first two years, he had a majority in both houses of Congress and high approval ratings after his election and he still couldn't get any of his stuff passed. That's his and his own party's fault.

Honestly, even if someone beats Obama, I don't expect anything he's done to be reversed. Not even "Obamacare". They'd make a few minor changes to it and claim that they "fixed" it and it's no longer "socialist."

The truth is that, with the exception of the total nutbars like Ron Paul, politically all those candidates agree with Obama far more than they are opposed to him.

Cain has jumped the shark. Newt gaining ground

According to CNN.com I got this breaking news alert

"A new national poll released today shows former House Speaker Newt Gingrich vaulting into a virtual tie with front-runner Mitt Romney over the last month in the Republican presidential race.
The same survey indicates businessman and former talk show host Herman Cain’s numbers falling during the same period. Cain has been mired in controversy for the past two weeks over allegations from four women that he sexually harassed them in the late 1990s them when he was head of the National Restaurant Association.
According the the CNN/ORC International poll, 24% of Republicans or GOP-leaning independents say Romney, the former Massachusetts governor who is making his second presidential run, is their most likely choice for the party’s nomination. While Romney’s numbers have remained fairly steady, Gingrich surged 14 percentage points in popularity, up to 22%, since October. That 2-point difference is well within the poll’s sampling error of plus or minus 4.5 percent.
At the same time, Cain has fallen 11 percentage points from 25% in October to 14% now. The poll was conducted from Friday through Sunday, well after the news of the Cain controversy broke. "

This Republican nomination process is fucking hilarious. It's pretty obvious that Romney is going to eventually get the nomination, at least to me, but it seems like they have to go through the motions of letting the teabaggers' favorite candidate lead for a while, so that they can prove that he or she is either too crazy (Bachmann), too stupid (Perry and Cain), or too sleazy (Gingrich) to actually beat Obama. I can't see it ending well, though: it will end up with a demoralized base, and a candidate that doesn't particularly appeal to anyone else.
