Hey!

Because you are using deadly force. If you aren't being threatened with serious injury, you can't justify using deadly force.
If you are threatened with a slap in the face, is deadly force necessary to protect yourself? Besides using deadly force to protect yourself creates risks for others, if the driver shot and missed he doesn't control where that bullet goes.
Fair, and to a large extent I agree with you in the car, however, the fact of the matter is that all of those questions are easy to ask afterward but in that moment it's about a split second decision where you get one chance to answer correctly. No matter what his intention was at the end of the day the guy reaching into the car is making an aggressive action. I personally would not be waiting around to see precisely what he's going to do before I react, I'm going to handle it as swiftly as possible. Now in that case if I was the guy in the car I can pretty much guarantee that I wouldn't start shooting, and I agree that firing a gun in what i assume was a reasonably panicked state is tremendously unsafe but that doesn't change the fact that the guy who got shot started the aggression.
Now, in my house? Absolutely not. If you're walking in without my invitation and I don't know you I will assume that you are a physical threat to me and my family and i'm going to do whatever I need to do to remove that threat immediately.

House, yes, absolutely. Dude reaching into passenger side of your car? ehhh. I could see pulling a gun, yes, that would probably be enough to stop him, but shooting immediately is a bit much.

Where does it say he shot immediately? (I only read the link Serpico posted) Maybe Grabby McAsshole started to reach for Nervous Pete's gun.

The article I read not linked from here (have to find it) said he shot him right after he reached into the passenger window. If he made a grab for the gun then I find it justifable.

I am not saying Grabby McAsshole didn't deserve to get shot. Grabby was in control of the situation. He exited his car. He approached the Nervous Pete's car. He reached into the car. Fuck him.
My reasons for being against lax gun laws isn't for sympathy towards a wrong doer who gets shoot. It is out of fear of innocents, bystanders or incorrectly perceived threats, being shot and the repercussions the gun owner will face when the shooting was unnecessary; criminal, emotional, and civil.
Almost no gun owner is trained how to use a weapon in a crisis situation. Our police are poorly trained for crisis situations, civilians most definitely are.

That's not a gun, genius.
Do you really think Sirius would allow that?
I guess it is a gun, dummy.

Used to love this guy to the point he was basically my favorite comedian.
Some of his bits were and are still the funniest things I've ever heard.
Maybe the best impressionist when he wants to be.
But I had to stop caring after all the racist shit.
It hurt and I miss the show but I can still catch the good bits on youtube.
My advice: stop giving a fuck about this guy.
I did, and it feels GGGRRREAT!!!!

I meant "after existing for centuries and receiving trillions in aid- they still can't get their shit together". He brought it up and Simmons side-stepped it. And you'll notice everyone who advocates aid for these nations gives the same crap about hunger, lack of education, warlords......what about personal responsibility? Anyone know the true story of Liberia?

What you're missing here is the effect of colonialism and slavery on Africa. Colonialism completely disrupted the natural order. Slavery took away many that would have become Africa's best and brightest. It may seem like a long time ago, but the last colonies existed into the 1950's. I know we'd like to, but you just can't ignore this stuff.

It's not just mental, but it's truly sad that Anthony cannot, without fail, cannot resist his go-to crutch schticks. Even when they're not even warranted. I dare anyone to mention anything remotely resembling the word monkey, or ape, or the movie planet of the apes, or chimp without him hitting the bell and adding in that horrendous fake heh-heh-heh-heh laugh. No one can mention Jersey without a Godfather reference. No one named Mike or Bill or Lou can call. The list could go on and on. The sad thing about it is, I can't imagine it stops when the mikes are off. I mean, wouldn't you even get tired of hearing yourself do the same lame jokes and references over and over again? It's like a 5 year old that makes the noise that makes the adults laugh and since he got a laugh once, he just does it over and over again until it's so fucking annoying you have to tell him to stop.

That stuff annoys me to hell too. I thought I was the only one. I don't even know the references for Bill, Lou, and Mike, which I guess makes it worse. I was glad when Steve left so I could stop hearing the gay "yess" thing that he and Jim do, but no, they still do it. Listening to any talk radio is both the funniest and most frustrating thing one can do. That's why we simultaneously obsess and hate. Anthony and Jimmy are two of the funniest people on the planet, but sometimes two of the most annoying as well.

Yes, but contracts usually specify SICK days , as to personal days. To call in sick, then head to AC to booze it up, might make management a little suspicious. Now if he took a personal day to go to AC, then it WASNT their business, but Op said that morning, Ant was calling in sick.

I guess I just look at it like a sick day and a personal day are the same thing. If he doesnt want to go to work, and hes allowed a certain number of call outs a year, he shouldnt have to prove anything to his bosses if he decides to call out.
And its not even close the the same situation as Stern who works 4 days a week without using sick days.

Im hardly a union backer. I cant stand most unions. But when you have a cotract their are rules agreed to by both parties. As long as you play by the rules of the contract the employer should have nothing to say.

At 1st I was posting in this thread because I was upset that the show had become something I didn't like anymore and wanted to vent. But then I stopped listening and I was still coming in this thread and complaining. Just trying to be honest with myself here, but I guess that was when I was just mad. It's not worth it though. The show changed. Some fans like it, some don't and move on. I moved on.
I'll still talk about the O&A show if it comes up and I still have a lot of the old WNEW bits in my iPod. You know, those old bits we were all trading while O&A were off the air for like 2 years?
But the current show isn't something I want to hear, so I just don't. I don't listen, I don't complain about it and I don't ruin other fan's appreciation of the show that they still love. Everybody's happy and no unnecessary jabber jawing has to go on.

I subscribed to XM because of O&A, I was stoned a long time ago and was absolutely mesmerized by the honesty of the show, and when ron and fez were given the golden ticket it was like even more of an awakening to how good radio could actually be. I have praised Anthony for as long as I can, I still love the guy, but for him to embrace Danny and think anything of his sense of humor is absolutely appauling to me, i'm am actually feeling love towards Opie, and now Ron and Fez is my primary concern on the channel, Jimmy and Ant still make me laugh a lot but for Ant to have any faith at all in Danny makes me think he responds well to ASSKISSING! Sam Roberts is the only producer with talent on that show and Ronnie B is clearly the king of that station even though he won't admit it! Pepper Hicks is awesome too!

5) they cant do the bits they used to do.
6) they don't have the supporting cast that made the "O&A" show famous...it wasn't just O&A it was Rick, Stinky, Spaz, Psycho Mark, Old Dirty, Patti, Retarded Laverne and SHirley, Stinky, and assorted guests and hangers on that made the show...it wasn't just O&A..now that is what we got...it stinks...and bobo...isn't Spaz...he's worse.

Hey man I completely agree. Sometimes people ruin even your fond memories of themselves. For me, I can still listen to older O&A bits and laugh. I really do find Anthony funny. I wish things hadn't changed so drastically or I'd still be listening. And to be fair, it's not JUST Anthony, although out of the 3 main on air people, their staff and whoever is on air that day, it's at least 50% Anthony that is the problem, at least for me.

Poor Anthony. I wish I could get angry about having to have to pay $40k in property taxes a year from my $5,000,000/ year salary.
Even at $40k he's only paying 0.8% of his gross salary toward his property tax. The tax itself is only 1.3% of his property value.
My property tax is 8% of my salary (about $50k), and is 2.5% of my property value (about $160k).
So fuck Anthony Cumia. He can suck my balls.
When they say Nassau County has the nation's highest property taxes, it's probably because they have the most high-value properties per square mile in the country, so the total $ amount is high. Shit needs to be viewed in context, and guys like Anthony are great at disregarding context.

2.5% is a low rate. No way LI has a 1.3% property tax rate.

I did a quick google search to see if I could find their salaries. From what I found, as of '06 they were making $5 mil / yr each on a three year contract (XM apparently matched their Infinity contracts). Unless they took a pay cut post-merger, which wouldn't surprise me actually, I'd imagine they should still be making somewhere in that ballpark.

I'm paying nearly $12K a year in property taxes here in glamorous NJ, so I'm over 1/4 of the way to what Anthony's paying. And, I don't know what he's making a year but I guarantee you it is a hell of a lot more that 4 times what I'm making. So, boo-fucking-hoo.

Now, look, maybe your method of figuring out Anthonys contract differs from mine, but you know his contract from a conglomerate like CBS desperate to stop the bleeding at Free FM and a contract for being an afterthought on XM ain't the same fucking ball park. It ain't the same league. It ain't even the same fucking sport.
To me it sounds backwards, it would have been CBS who absorbed the contracts.
I doubt XM is paying them in the 5 mil a piece ballpark right now.

I dunno about that. Pretty sure Mad Dog's making bank, too, and in the grand scheme of things, $5 mil/ each for O&A, plus maybe $750k-1m /yr for Jimmy sounds like it'd be in the right ballpark for SIRI. O&A are the flagship show of an exclusive talk station on a nat'l platform. Bubba the Love Sponge was quoted in this article in Jan. (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/sirius-xm-slashing-salaries-top-68261) saying SIRI was slashing talent salaries, but he was like third or fourth banana on Stern's channel (behind Stern, Stern aftershow & Stern Replay), so letting him walk wasn't a huge deal for them.
If SIRI loses O&A, they lose a whole exclusive channel (unless they give it to Jason Ellis). I think Op's mentioned they took a hit in one of their last negotiations "for the good of the team", but I don't know how big a hit that might've been.

My girl just had an interview w/ Seton Hall, and when we looked at property costs down there we looked at each other and said "unless they pay you double AND hire me and pay me double, there ain't no way we're moving there."

I think it's more in the 2.5/3 mil range now. The last two deals, '08 and '10 both involved pay cuts.

Only when "other people" bitch incessantly about how much they hate paying their taxes. I'm sure lots of people listen to Ant and nod their heads thinking "Yeah, why should you have to pay for being successful, for achieving the American Dream" when he's actually getting away with paying proportionately less than they do.
When Ant talks politics I consider him a political activist, and his spoutings should be fact-checked. And considering he discusses his wealth quite frequently on-air during an international radio show, his money is hardly a taboo topic.
