My son wearing an authentic Anthony Carter Jersey. It was the first jersey that I ever had.

GO VIKES.

You know your child has had a growth spurt when...they can finally reach the shelf you've been keeping all of the poisonous materials.

We had our first call to the Poison Control Center over the weekend. My husband noticed that it had gotten that scary quiet. When I looked in on him, he had gotten ahold of the vaseline and was spreading it all over his arms and face like I do to him (he has very dry skin at times and this is the best stuff to help him.) Problem was that we weren't sure it he ingested any or not. So we made the phone call. Apparently, Vaseline is pretty non-toxic, you just have to watch their breathing because it can be a respitory hazard. And sometimes it makes the poop liquid. :wallbash:

He's fine, and no doctor or hospital visit. After cleaning the monkey up, all the materials on that shelf went to a different higher shelf that he won't ever reach until he's old enough to know the difference. Yay, Toddler Land!!!!

Congratulations on entering Toddlerhood.. Also eating Degree Deodorant isn't too bad... that was my call to Poison Control.. Lady told me that his mouth may be dry, just let him have some juice/water. It's bad when your older one gives the younger one access to stuff.. He thought it would be a good idea to rub deodorant all over the coffee table, and then gives it to my 2 year old.. Where was I? In the kitchen thinking, "wow, they're playing pretty quietly together, hmmmmmm"

We just got our boy a John Deere bike, but he can't quite reach the pedals, so we duct taped blocks to the pedals.

Jack had his 2 month check-up yesterday, with shots (poor guy screamed for 5 minutes afterwards, but was fine the rest of the day). He's currently 13 lbs 12 oz, and 24 inches long. The doctor assured me that he is not overweight, just a really big kid. His head measured 17.5 inches around (the nurse had to measure twice because she couldn't believe it was that huge). The doctor actually half-considered putting him on solids, but decided to revisit that option in another 2 months.

He's already wearing clothes made for a 6 month old. I am dreading our grocery bill once he becomes a teenager.

I wanted to share a funny story from my niece again. That girl has me in tears too often.
She is 8 now. (the one that fell off the horse the other day)

So recently she got the idea that her dad should buy her a horse. He told her that they can't afford it and there is no way she will be getting her own horse.

Well, he also owns a business and keeps cash from his store laying around and happened to have 500 Euros flying around that day. So my niece got very upset that her dad has money like that and claims he can't afford a horse. :(
To show her sadness she took a sharpie and drew a HUGE black frown on her face. yes, with a sharpie. She went on to give them the silent treatment all day and just pointed out the frown whenever they addressed her.

Gotta love her creative ways to express her feelings :D... the little rebel

ha- not in height really, but in attitude :D

at the beach were kids a year younger than him that were the same height... he kept calling them baby and it made me laugh. His friends that are the same age are about a head taller too.
But both his dad and I are not tall people... so he makes up for it with charm (and it gets him away with more because people think he is a really smart 2 year old...haha)

Jack went to his first wrestling show last night and cheered on his daddy while he and his partner Slayer defeated Dan De Man and an oddly-familiar looking guy called Thunderfoot. Jack was a huge hit with the guys in the locker room, especially when they saw his "FUTURE BWO CHAMPION" onesie.

A cute pic of Jack and Daddy in full gimmick:

He took to the mask very easily; I think he sensed that Daddy was just wearing silly clothes. The only wrestler he cried at on sight was Steve Off (I think it was Steve's odd hairstyle that set him off).

He is 12 weeks old today and is going through his first cold. Friday & Saturday were pretty rough on him (and his parents), but he's acting pretty normal now. We found out that he's almost 15 lbs now (!).

My daughtert Moira is a distance runner here in CT. This past weekend she began the invitational/post season part of her Cross Country Schedule. Here is a video of the Wickham Invitational which was an indication of her competition for State championship since most all the teams from CT were there. She had the fastest time (18:59 for 5k on a hilly course) of all the 3 girls races by 23 seconds to the next closest girl. About 600 girls in all three races.

So, Chipper, you post your pic of baby Chip and BeerBandit hasn't stopped whining about how long it's been since we've posted any pics of our clan. So, here's a couple to shut him up!

Absolutely! Because you and her Daddy will be playing golf, she'll actually be attending Mommy's "sprinkle".

That depends on if you're coming back to our place to play some Rock Band. BabyBandit is a demon on the drums.

You're telling me. We had to move the Wii room to the smallest room so that the babies can be roommates.

There's barely any room to waggle in there.

I've wondered whether or not the boy will enjoy some rocknrolla with me in the car when he gets older - we can make fun of Pearl Jam together ala Ron "evenflow..huhhuhwhaoohaahuuhehehhh"!

This is promising.

Loved Mikey's joke about your kids' costumes btw... funny stuff... and neat that they were into doing our generation's Star Wars characters.

Boba fett was easily my favorite character. All silent and dangerous ... just freelancing.

John went for his first Halloween pics. (he's a kangaroo btw... I've informed my wife that he's a girl kangaroo b/c I think they're the only ones that carry their young)

He enjoyed the session apparently. I think it was Picture People btw ... and they do a special where you get free prints - something like that. 4 free postcards was invovled. Anyway - we got out of there for under $15.

We were at a restaurant last night and a defeated looking waitress said,

"Let me start by telling you what we do not have tonight."

She listed french fries, fish, baked potato and number of other things.

My 5 year old son interrupted and said,

"Why don't you tell us what you DO have?"

We were on our way to the aquarium in Camden, where I blew out a tire in the vicinity, I may have passed that little chateau, should have used that line for the aquarium... Right now my boys are 3.5yr and 2yr, they are awesome. That was a great milestone, when your boy can get you a beer, I think my husband had tears in his eyes when Eric brought him one.. Now if only we can get them out of diapers, I can't imagine storing 3 different size diapers..

sean was potty trained in a week, fully in 2.

first,
print this chart and put it by the potty. 1 for each kid, if you have multiples.
http://www.childavenue.com/images/Printables/train_potty.jpg

put them in pull ups. start this on say, a saturday morning.
first thing, put them on the potty. set a digital timer for 30 minutes. tell them that when this timer goes off, its time to go to the potty. if they go potty, they get to put a sticker on this chart. when they fill up this chart and get to "great job", they get to go to or get something special. its amazing how after a day, when they hear the potty timer go off, they'll run cause they know they'll get a sticker.

hands down the easiest way to do it.

put them in pull ups. start this on say, a saturday morning.
first thing, put them on the potty. set a digital timer for 30 minutes. tell them that when this timer goes off, its time to go to the potty. if they go potty, they get to put a sticker on this chart. when they fill up this chart and get to "great job", they get to go to or get something special. its amazing how after a day, when they hear the potty timer go off, they'll run cause they know they'll get a sticker.

hands down the easiest way to do it.

sounds like it's easy but every kid is really different and I have learned that pushing a stubborn child to do it is absolutely not worth the aggravation.

My son started doing it on his own by watching kids at the daycare go potty and feeling the need to be a big boy and do the same.
He started much later at home and to this day he requires my help while he does it alone at daycare.

I have tried to ignore him but he will get to the point where he screams and sounds like in pain because he is holding it in, dancing the potty dance and yelling out he has to go. I have had him pee his pants in the bathroom a few times just to make my point that he needs to do it on his own because he can.
On the bright side he never had an accident in public and also started doing no2 almost at the same time which in many cases can take much more time for kids to accomplish.

He was in pull ups for about a month and went straight to big boy undies from there.

topless Mike, thanks! just last week someone was telling me they used the "Potty train" method too, and said it was the best, ... my question is do you do every 30 minutes? or do you wait till they have something to drink/eat? my son was spotty with stickers but we didn't have the end goal of something fun.. I'll have to give it a try soon, this weekend isn't good with a party right in the middle..

I have a feeling my 2y old will follow once he does it. Not sure when the day will be where he goes on his own without any help.. that seems to be the next challenge. Good luck Katja, that's great that he's at least aware to go, hope he gets to total independence.

I started potty training a few weeks ago (daughter is 2 yrs old) but I'm doing it much more laid back. I put her on the potty when she first wakes up and before she naps and bedtime, and try to remember to ask her throughout the day "do you have to go potty?" Half the time she says yes and sits on the pot and pees. She still pees in her diapers here and there, but I'd say 75% of the time she's going on the pot. She always tells me when she has to poop, so we're 100% potty trained there. I think it's going pretty good so far and I haven't had to give her prizes or anything. She's delighted enough to hear her own "tinkle."

K is 7½ months now. Crawling, pulling up on what she can reach, and getting into everything. Still just the two bottom teeth, but one on top is about to break through.

My daughter Moira took first in Class S at State Cross Country Meet yesterday. She had the 2nd fastest time of all the girls in the state. Next Friday will be State Opens it should be quite a race between her and the other girl both are with in 10 seconds of each other and about 30 seconds faster then the next closest competitor.

WE did the Winnie the Pooh breakfast Way back in the day. The funniest thing was my kids getting autographs from everyone one of the charachters throughout the park.

Funny story.

We are treking all over the park all day and we get the word that Micky Mouse is at some place. We head over there and get into the line to take our picture with Mickey. There are two lines that head into the back room one is open to file families into see Mickey the other door says Employees or something like that. I was one of the last in the room and take a peak on the back of the door it also says Employees. So what they do to preserve the integrity of there being only one Mickey they are running two rooms with two Micky Mouse but the kids only see that there is one. Sharp move very impressive.

No, but we did have a "dinner" with Cinderalla, Prince Charming, Lady Tremane (Cinderella's stepmother), Anastasia and Drusilla. Essentially, the buffet dinner was at one of the resorts, with about 30 or so tables, and the characters stopped off at each table and spoke to the kids and posed for pictures. She had a ball.

We also had a breakfast where we met LiLo, Stitch (the photo is in the Gallery), Pluto and Mickey.

It was a great, great time.

That park is run with more efficiency and precision than the U.S. military (well, maybe the same amount). It's amazing. I saw a similar thing. They do this Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party, and one of the events is a show with Disney villains followed by an opportunity to take pictures. Following the event was a parade. They ended the Villains photo op early, and I heard Cruella De Ville say she had to leave to go get in place in the parade. The parade starts 20 mintues later, but it's clearly a different actress playing Cruella.

Adorable.

BTW, the video is proof that getting a smile from an infant on camera is such a hard thing to do. At that age, they only smile is in reaction to what your face is doing, yet when you have the camera they can't see your face and have nothing to react to.

The first smile on camera we got out of our youngest Riley was when I had her on my legs, and I would smell her feet and say "you got stinky feet" and got her to laugh so hard.

I have to say too - I love the boy a lot of course... but really get a kick out of my niece when she comes over... esp b/c my family is 95% boys in the kids area. They're so stinking cute and sweet.

I'm banking on a girl next time.

I thought I was going to have a girl cause my family is all girls but 1 male cousin.
I was more than surprised when I was told it is a boy.

Now I get a kick out of it... love little boys... it is special when he pulls out a rock or a bead he took from the daycare and says "Here, for you mommy"

I'm super stoked that once Beer Jr gets here, we'll have one of each. But Piuki and I "knew" that it would work out the way. I only have a brother and she only has a sister, so each set of grandparents was overjoyed to have a grandchild of the opposite sex of their children.

My only loss is that I won Babybandit as a Giants fan in the Superbowl, so by default, my at the time unconceived son became a Pats fan. Oh well, at least they'll both be Mets fans.

Look at it this way, though, as a girl, she's less likely to question her fandom. I am a Mets fan because my Daddy told me to be one when I was just a wee little lass. Beer, Jr. is probably going to denounce Mommy's beloved Pats once he is old enough to have developed a mind of his own. So, my point is, you'll have her for life....I'll only have him until the parental-mind-control trick runs its course. I rue the day.

Hopefull, for your sake, by that point we'll have the Football package so you two can watch Non-Jets/Pats games.

As reported in the listening thread my daughter Moira won the CT state HS cross country championship this afternoon. She was 1st out of the 192 top runners in CT with a personal best time of 1844 for the 5k race. It was a very exciting day for the whole family. She will be competing in all New Englands next week. She is in the process of weighing college scholarship offers to run Division I XC and track. She has narrowed her choices down to a couple, the higher up the academic foodchain the less scholarship money is offered but she will have some nice choices to make in the coming weeks. This was the best birthday present I could ask for. I will post videos when I get home and find what's on line.
