haha, I actually cut them together the wrong way, I took a couple today and he keeps dancing in this weird way, it cracks me up, but now he throws in some hand gestures at the right moments which makes me realize he is really listening too and gets the songs...

His potty dance looks similar minus the shoulder rocking, that's how can tell whether he is dancing or needs to go...haha

Actually on second viewing. Mute the audio and it looks like the video is being rewound.
I bet if you did play it backward he would be dancing completely normal.

The phone itself is messed up. I'm getting her a new one later this week. I'm not about to let her out of the house without one after what happened tonight.

BTW... I almost forgot. When she came home, she had blood on her shirt. It wasn't hers. She may be skinny, but she's tough!

I have two daughters. The 11y/o just just me the 6y/o spit on her while I was out doing chores, but she spit on herself to make it even. I called the little one over and she admitted she had committed the crime. I told her the next time she spit on her sister i was going to put soap in her mouth to wash out that spit.

She said "Wont that just make more spit?"

I kept a straight face long enough to ask her if she wanted to find out (which she did not) and sent her on her way. Little shit is too smart.

So Lukas is in the phase of pulling and tugging and touching his penis right now, especially at bath time. I tell him to wash it and he thinks it's incredibly funny to squeeze and stretch it until he says OUCH...
Today he made a comment about it along the lines that it is just as mommy for peeing... and I said no, only boys have it. Then he asked if girls pee from their butt. I said no, we don't, we have something else.
Do I call it a vagina? I was flustered and distracted, just did not know what to tell him. Isn't he too young for that? Damn it I never wanted him to grow up so quick!

But we're excited to have another child.

I got a quick call from my son a little while ago from Army Basic Training. As some of you may have read, he badly hurt his shoulder right before his final week 9 PT test. He's been in physical therapy ever since. He's finally been cleared to return to full duty! He gets to take his PT test in two weeks. If he passes in two weeks, that means a 9 week basic training camp will have taken him 26 weeks! The kid never gives up.

Big weekend for me. Friday night Patrick and I attended the Yankees game and saw the extra inning walkoff win thanks to Robbie Cano.
Saturday it was off to drop him off for his second year at RPI in Troy NY. After working a couple of paid internships this summer,he has decided to major in Civil Engineering.
He got really lucky with his housing none of his friends had a great lottery number but when they got their choice they lucked into a big suite with 5 guys. Kitchen, lounge, private bath.So he's very pleased plus a couple of his friends from HS are now attending RPI.
Drove back home and packed BOTH cars for today to drive Moira to start her first year attending and running for Boston College. She ended up in a quad with her 3 teammates. She was extremely pleased with this. So we drove up to Boston today. Met her 3 roommates and moved her in today. Her room is great her roommates are all beautiful in addition to being elite runners. My wife and I had a good laugh watching the amount of stuff 4 girls can fit into a room.
So now we are on our way home in seperate cars as empty nesters. Hence the RI beachhouse to occupy all our sudden free time. Plenty of exciting times for my 2 kids and a new chapter in my life. I'm thinking Mary Jo is driving with tears in her eyes.
Time flies folks.

I am knee deep in an issue with my neighbors(next door no less) son (17y.o.) who thought it was ok to put my son's (13y.o) head into the window on the bus. We spent about 3 hours at the emergency room on Friday, so that we could get staples in his head.
Apparently my son shot him with a rubber band and the kid just forced his head into the bus window. This kid had got 1ft of height, 30lbs and 4 years on my son. It is all I can do to not go over there and beat his dads ass, but the police took the older kid off of the bus and they have a case against him so I guess we will have to see what the courts will do. I didn't think that me assaulting my neighbor would fare well for our case.
It sure makes things tense around the neighborhood. The parents of the 17yo have not even come over to check on my son. I think if the roles were reversed I would be over there trying to do some damage control at the very least.

I actually searched this topic for this chart again. this time kid #2... thanks again topless mike and the teh internets for keeping this image up!

first,
print this chart and put it by the potty. 1 for each kid, if you have multiples.
http://www.childavenue.com/images/Printables/train_potty.jpg

put them in pull ups. start this on say, a saturday morning.
first thing, put them on the potty. set a digital timer for 30 minutes. tell them that when this timer goes off, its time to go to the potty. if they go potty, they get to put a sticker on this chart. when they fill up this chart and get to "great job", they get to go to or get something special. its amazing how after a day, when they hear the potty timer go off, they'll run cause they know they'll get a sticker.

hands down the easiest way to do it.

So, the wife and I are expecting our third child. It's relatively early, as the baby is due April 2, 2009, at least so far. The "morning sickness" which lasts all day for the past 10 days has been pretty bad on her.

But we're excited to have another child.

How's she doing? Mine was really bad - 5 days straight, dry heaves and hurling, couldn't keep water down. It sucked.

Missed 2 days of work that week 'til I called the doc, who advised I drink plain seltzer at room temperature because the bubbles help settle your stomach. If that gets boring, add FRESH lemon slices. IDK what lemon does, but it helped me get the nasty-ass Saltines down.

Worked so well, I did great for the next week, had a rough weekend, and then did another hurl and haven't had an incident since August 11th-ish. (IDK what triggered that one, stress and 2nd-hand smoke maybe? I was at work & threw up in the courtyard.)

However, once I hit 12 weeks, I felt absolutely fine, although there are still a few things I am picky about eating - fried foods, Colby-Jack cheese, zucchini and anything with high fructose corn syrup. (I've been almost human for the past 2 weeks.)

You know what's cool?

My oldest son is four, he will be 7 at the end of Obama's first term, and 11 on the end of his second term, if he serves one.

He'll have no personal knowledge of a world that never elected a black man president. As a matter of fact, as he gets older, he'll wonder why we made such a big deal about it. It's only skin color, right?

Kids can really make you optimistic sometimes.

sounds like you are shaving a boy ;) I was sick the first three months and it was hard to hide... but I managed. My work did not know about my pregnancy until the second trimester and that was when it all started going real well, before that I was constantly nauseous and could barely eat anything.

Congrats!

Yes, it was hell, but it was temporary. Thank God. Hitting 12 weeks was like someone flipped a switch and "BAM!" no more morning sickness. Again, Thank God. (I know two people who had it for their entire pregnancies.)

We're firmly in the "surprise us!" camp, much to my sister's chagrin.

Everyone picks what's important to them; finding out the sex beforehand isn't important to us.

What I'm looking most forward to is our next ultrasound ... I think we'll be able to count fingers and toes then!

Boys are trending among the girls in my family (both my cousins have boys & my sister is expecting a boy) so I wouldn't be surprised.

Either way, I don't care as long as Baby Fridays is healthy. (Not to get all gushy on everybody, but I am already in love with the little hummingbird-flutter heartbeat from the ultrasound!)

Congrats, Liz!!!

As for my wife, it hasn't been going well at all. I haven't talked about it much here, but essentially, she's been suffering from a condition called hyperemsis. It's essentially extreme nausea, etc. that leads to severe hydration, loss of weight, etc. She's had it for the last 5 weeks and has been mostly bedridden. She's been hospitalized three times, including a trip to the emergency room after a mistake with an IV. The doctor say the mistake could have been fatal, lucky it wasn't.

Luckily, the baby is doing well, and my insurance company has a maternity program that hooked her up to a 24 hour anti-nausea IV pump at home. Since that happened three days ago, she's been a lot better.

OMG, I know about hyperemesis from the HR rep at work and my best friend ... and I am thankful my morning sickness didn't get to be that bad, so I am no longer describing it as "the world's worst" because anyone with hyperemesis has it worse.

So your wife's on Zofran? Glad to hear she's been doing better so far; sending positive, anti-emetic vibes her way and she (and your kids) will be in my thoughts.

Moira had her first college Cross Country Meet this past Saturday running for Boston College. The coach had a very strong recruiting class this year. The Meet was held at Dartmouth College in NH. BC sent mainly its freshman girls and a couple of transfers to this meet while the varsity girls competed elsewhere.

http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w307/drjoek/100_0281-vi.jpg

The girls all ran very well and won the meet even against Dartmouth and Quinnipiac's varsity squads. Moira place 11th overall, third for the freshmen with a good time all though she went out way to fast trying to keep up with the number one runner thus fading at the end a bit. She has to learn to run as part of a group. Where as in High School she was routinely the rabbit leading the way she is now part of a group of top runners. So there is some learning curve but she will be pushed to achieve her best in this situation.

Since that happened three days ago, she's been a lot better.

sad she was sick, glad it's getting better.

Glad your wife is feeling better Eli. I had to rush my wife to the ER last week and she had to get an appendectomy. When all was said and done, the surgeon told me that the appendix was fused to her intestines and he had to pull them out to removed it. Also the appendix was gangrene. He said if it wasn't caught in time, the gangrene could've spread to her other organs. We're very lucky. So now we have family helping us out with the baby, and I take over when I get home from work and through the night. The little guy is great, I love spending so much time with him. My poor wife.... a c-section then 3 weeks they cut her open again for the appendix..

Besides a crazy academic schedule and varsity soccer, Mendy Jr. now volunteers 1 weekend a month helping walking foster dogs being trained as seeing eye dogs for the blind. I barely see the kid any more !!. But, the kids are all right!
Oh, and Happy anniversary Mrs. Mendy , 20 years today !

Got another call from him tonight. He passed his test and will be rejoining a Week 9 group on Monday. Oddly enough, despite the misery of being on a medical hold since May 20th, he has decided he wants to be a lifer!

Um......

After his long convalescence in his Army basic training rehab center, my son continued with week "8" of his training. He got to have a repeat of "Family Day Weekend" this weekend (which I didn't know about). A friend brought to my attention today, a Facebook post from my son that was posted on Saturday.

The post showed pics of... His fiance... their rings (hers, a white gold ring surrounded by 25 diamonds)... :help:

Her face isn't clearly visible in the pics. I know he met a girl while in rehab. She had been injured in Iraq. I don't think it's her, though. This girl had long hair in the pic. I talked to my daughter about it, and she said his ex girlfriend was supposed to visit him this weekend. :help::help::help:

She's the girl who convinced him to drop out of his Senior year of High School. She also didn't want him to join the Army.

Now, that Family Day Weekend is over, he won't have phone or internet access for a long time again. Since he's in a new unit, I won't know his new address until his next letter. When I do get his new address, I don't know if I should tell him I know. It could upset him during his training.

OUCH. That sucks. Sounds like he rushed into something with a girl he knew you guys wouldnt approve of. The worst part is when he tells you, if you try to tell him what a mistake hes making, hell just use that as the excuse for not telling you.

It blows but when it comes to relationships if you tell someone its a mistake they take that as you are rooting against it, not that you are looking out for them. Any girl that convinces her boyfriend to drop out of school is a complete fucking douchebag to begin with, hopefully she wont fuck up his military career too.

My advice would be to let him know you know, be honest, someone told you, its not like you were snooping. And then tell him hes a big boy now, and if hes man enough to fight for his country, then hes man enough to make his own decisions and deal with the consequences of them, and that if he needs anything from you, that you are there. Its really all you can do.

As long as you know he can't get married while he's in training, I wouldn't mention it to him now.

Skeet is right: if he's old enough to fight, he's old enough to get married. I would focus on the fact that he felt the need to keep it a secret, because to me that's proof that HE knows it isn't the greatest idea.

This happened to me with my younger brother: I got married in the month of October - not this past October - and by December of the same year my brother tells me over beers that he's going to propose to his girlfriend of 4 months and announce it over Christmas. Crazy talk.

Here's how I talked him out of it. I told him that it was really soon in their relationship and came about abruptly and was going to feel like he was influenced by my wedding and marriage (which he was). I told him flat out that people were going to think it was odd, and why would he want that kind of news received that way? I appealed to his sense of doing things the right way and how important that was for him and for our family.

Of course, he's a douchebag and waited a whole 4 months, got married, had a kid then promptly got divorced.

But that's the angle I'd take with your son. Why would he chose a path that excludes everybody else? Life is hard enough as it is. Why shut out people that want to be happy for you and support you?

You can't keep him from getting married, but you probably can get him to hold off and do it the right way, at least, and maybe he comes to his senses in the meantime. If he doesn't, at least he stands up in front of people and does it right. I'm big on that. Elopements are for second marriages. I think it's really important to get married in front of your people, announce "this is who we are", and let people be happy for you.

That sums it up perfectly actually. When it comes to relationships, people ask for advice but they dont want it. They just want to be told they are right. I was with my wife 3 years before I proposed, and another year and a half before we wed. In that time all these people that met after us got married before us. When my wife would bring this up Id just say "And theyll all be divorced before us too." So far 3 of the couples have divorced, 1 broke off the engagement, and 1 got caught cheating on his wife but she stayed with him so she can throw it in his face every chance she gets.

She'd better get her licks in while she can.

Considering shes 18 months older I would have to agree. Hes 5 months old and wearing 12 month PJ's.

Lukas never watched tv until he was way past a year, he had no interest. Sadly the only show he liked then was the teletubbies and later Arthur. I had to buy them on ebay cause they were only available used and on VHS

I tried the baby Einstein dvd's for the music and shapes... nope, he did not care.
I was so glad when he finally got past his teletubby phase

I do love that he hates Barney with a passion, as soon as the theme music comes on he yells at me to switch it.

Yeah, I guess huge is never a good word to use for a girl. She certainly looks bigger, though, right? And long. That's the word I should have used. Proportionally, she looks long and tall.

Yeah, I guess huge is never a good word to use for a girl. She certainly looks bigger, though, right? And long. That's the word I should have used. Proportionally, she looks long and tall.

Here's more Miles, from the same nap. Look at that little smile!

(Miles makes me quite happy, I must say)

http://i142.photobucket.com/albums/r85/ritalin3g/smiles.jpg

I was just kidding... I think I have called her huge myself before and later realized that it could be taken the wrong way...lol

Miles looks so sweet. It's great when they snuggle up to you and fall asleep that way!

My wife actually freaked out about me putting it on Facebook because of that story. Her aunts are the kinds of people that actually get frightened by the shit they hear on the news.

The guy at the store just laughed and said "It takes a special kind of father to put that on his kid."

they sell dolls that imitate nursing and the suckling... they come with a kind of apron that reacts to the doll being placed on the "breast" It's natural, why freak out about it. Walmart would have an issue if the kid was naked, but not when it's innocently playing with an Halloween accessory.

I completely agree. And I put it up anyway. Her family is the biggest bunch of nervous nellies Ive ever seen. And the problem comes because she takes everything they say as fucking gospel. Even though normal rational adults can tell the difference between innocent nude child pictures and kiddie porn, I keep any heiney shots or bathtime pics on my PC only because of the retards.

holding up giant plastic tits

And so what? We're all supposed to stop taking pictures - harmless pictures by the way - because there might be some perv jacking somewhere?

It's a funny picture, period. If somebody wants to project their own problems with seeing fake naked boobies onto it, that's for them to figure out.

People are way way too uptight.

because it's pervy single guys with no kids who fail to see the innocence in a naked child.
I can tell you that Europe is still much more lax about these issues and I have friends who post vacation pictures to their private facebooks where the kids are at the ocean naked, even though they are 5 years old. I love them for being much more in touch with what's natural and what's sexual. Amazes me that Europeans are labeled to be kinky and creepy in their sexuality by Americans, when in fact they are much less suppressed and uptight and child predators are much less common than they are here in the US.
I had a coworker who was an expatriate with wife and kids attend a company pool party, they had no clue about how uptight Americans are... their kids jumped into the pool naked, they were 2 and 5 at the time and in Germany that's normal for kids to be nude at that age. Boy did they get looks and comments after that event. He was an highly educated person, so was his wife, and they were amongst doctors who they assumed would see nothing but innocence in naked kids the same way it is at home in Germany (and the company was a German owned company). They learned the hard way.

holy cow, i just caught up with Sept/Oct and you guys have really cute kids, great to see this thread is still active.

PapaBear- good luck with your son, I think Triple Skeet gave great advice, i wished my parents took his approach. My mom never let go of the "mothering" stage and refused to let me make any mistakes or choices that were not in line with her, without putting everything she had in her arsenal (guilt, threats, anger, unsolicited advice) to "protect" me. In college, and afterwards I lied and kept things from her, and was very quiet and was withholding even the smallest bits of info that she desperately sought to have conversation with me. I always felt like I was being attacked by her, even with the most benign comment. I think it was the fact that I felt there was something always wrong, since she was always trying to help make me a better person, but the truth is, we can't be perfect and all an adult son/daughter wants is the acceptance from their parent warts and all...

Having kids now, I can appreciate where my mom was coming from, and I don't take everything she says as criticism, I let it go as her opinion, and choose whether to take it or not. I've given up that I'll ever be accepted as is, but that's cool.. because I don't need it anymore.. I feel like I'm doing ok with the young ages right now of 4y and under, but it's going to be a different kind of challenge when they start making their own life decisions. I will have to be really conscious on trusting them, of course you tell them what you think, but when you say "it's up to you", really mean it, without attaching yourself to the choice you want them to make.. just be there for them if they fall. addictions can be cured, marriages can get divorced, sins can be forgiven, bruises heal but you'll only have one relationship with your son/daughter.

ok, this was a bit lengthy, sorry about that guys, just my opinion gone wordy
