I FINALLY got a new letter from my son in Basic. Though he didn't admit that he got engaged, he did say he's back with his ex girlfriend. I guess he intends to give me a little of it at a time. The unit he will join, when his training is over, is in Iraq. So, soon after Christmas, he'll be leaving to join them. It's scary, but at least it's not Afghanistan (for now).

Just got back from an ultra-sound of my wife. She's 18 weeks along now, and the baby is so far healthy and doing well.
Also, my third child is a masculine child.
The wife and I are happy with all of the news.

If he joins them in Iraq he will have a shortened tour which is good news. I hope your son enjoys serving, it is both an honor and a burden that few bare. I'll keep him in my thoughts.

He's home! He greeted Buddy, and then he and his fiance went straight to bed. He's been up for 50 hours.
I wish the video wasn't so dark. I had every damn light in the room on. You can see Buddy, but Andrew is totally in the dark.

My daughter's birthday is coming up and she absolutely LOOOOOOVES the show "Cake Boss" on TLC. So, this weekend we just ordered her a birthday cake from Carlo's Bakery in Hoboken.
If anyone is familiar with the show, here's a crappy cell phone pic of her and my wife with Mauro from the show posing behind the counter.

Kalee's Senior portraits were terrible, so she asked me to take some shots for her. My digital camera is shot, so all I had to work with was the Kodak that my father picked up today at Target for $129, and very cold windy day at the park. She's pretty happy with them. I just wish I had all of the good equipment I once owned.

It sounded like she was chewing on a piece of plastic, but she is grinding her back teeth. has anyone had one of their kids do that? It kinda freaked me out. She seems to be getting teeth abck there, but I don't want this to become a habit.
any advice would be great

Lukas did that for a while, I noticed it when he was sleeping in my bed. I was told a night guard is not needed yet since they are baby teeth, but I guess once they fall out a guard would be good. But it also seems he has grown out of it already again.

connor's hair is very similar to mine; very wavy and much more so as it has time to dry. we had just washed and combed it, just an hour later it was already all curled up.

well I laughed when he started hiding behind my back when it was his turn, cause for the past month he had been telling me that Santa cannot see him since obviously he can't see Santa. So he also did not believe he could know if he had been good or bad. So he questioned Santa's abilities with a brief moment of fear and respect, just to show him who is boss right after.
To my amazement, his older bother still is trying to find proof that he exists, and he is already 11... I think Lukas will stop believing way sooner.

My son got a list of stuff he has to have before he leaves for Iraq. He had to get reflective gloves and one of those orange belt/shash things for directing traffic. He and his wife were leaving Wal Mart yesterday in the post Christmas traffic, and no one would let them out onto the road to leave. He put on his coveralls, gloves, and belt, and directed traffic. He got her onto the road, and hopped back in the car and left!

He's less congested today, still coughing, but better. A lot to do with all the nostril cleaning and Little Noses. He was a little crabby, then fudged his diaper to the gills and is happy as a clam. Smiles all around.

Andrew called from Iraq on Tuesday. He's training Iraqi soldiers. He said, though some of them honestly want to learn, most of them are so stupid he's terrified of them. One guy was holding his loaded M-16 by the barrel and swinging it like an axe. Another one pointed his at his buddy's belly when it was time to clear the weapon.
He also said his wife had the ultrasound. It's a boy!
BTW... Did I happen to mention that I'm going to be a grandfather?

My daughter's boyfriend (who I haven't met) friended me on Myspace. I hope this isn't a prequel to him asking me for her hand in marriage, or anything!!!:help: I just wish he had used Facebook. The only reason I still have Myspace, is to keep up with what my brother's band is doing. And to keep up with what my daughter is doing, too, of course.
In any case... I think it shows that he's serious about her, and doesn't want to hide it from me. I guess that's a good thing.

I'm so PISSED OFF!
Almost 20 years ago, my father made this rocking horse for my first born son. The last time I saw it, was when I was still with my second wife. At that point, my youngest son was using the horse. With my oldest son's own son to be born in May, I wanted to get the horse back, so he could pass it on.
My ex told me today, she doesn't have it. She has no idea what happened to it! I can't believe she'd let something so important slip away like that. What really pisses me off, is she has no idea of why, or when, she got rid of it! :furious:
This is the horse, being ridden by my youngest son.

Awesome Papa! Enjoy that time.
I definitely will. And I will soon have pics from him to post. And many wild stories! For now, I'm getting a kick out of seeing how overwhelmed he is by the simplest things "our world" offers, while almost nonchalantly, talking about the three times his vehicles hit IED's.

I don't have any details, and I haven't seen anything on the news about it, but apparently, Andrew's unit is having some success in Iraq. He emailed me last night and said "we got 3 and 5". I told him I didn't know what he meant. He reminded me of how they had assisted the Iraqi forces a couple of months ago in getting the number 2 Al Qaeda in Iraq guy. He said they got just got numbers 3 and 5 on the most wanted list.
Remeber how we got 2? Well we got 3 and 5. On our OWN. By ACCIDENT. It was awesome. *does the new ARCOM dance*
He didn't say if "got" meant captured, or killed.

Jack had his pediatrician visit yesterday for his 2 yrs old checkup. According to the doctor, Jack can be medically classified as a giant for his age. At 37.5 inches tall, he is 1.5 inches taller than your average 3 year old. And at 31 lbs, he has the weight of a 2.5 year old. Doc said that he will be much taller than me when he's sixteen. Heather ran Jack's info and our info thru a program and it said that Jack will be anywhere from 6'4" to 6'8" by the time he's 18.
When I heard that I thought, "How in the hell am I going to be able to feed that kid?"

not to question your pediatrician, but those programs aren't always accurate- especially at that age. It would be better to just use mom and dad's height to predict the height. Sometime the kids who are taller earlier actually end up being not that tall because their growth plates close earlier. Probably too hard to tell. But what do I know...
sailor
07-28-2010, 04:38 PM
Yeah, doubling the two year old height is a very rough measure. Kids hit growth spurts at different times, it's not linear. He does sound humongous at this point though. :)
the best estimate is to average the parent's heights and add 2.5 for a boy. For a girl you'd subtract the same number of inches. You kid will generally be within 4 inches of this. Even this is a huge range, our kid will probably be between 5-8 and 6-4 which is some swing.
