we went to hang out with our friends and their kids this weekend. Lukas had a blast cause we were able to be outside all day.

he is the same age as the little blond girl and the blond boy but he is almost a head shorter then them... well, half a head but I never notice it until I see pix like this where they are sort of lined up

Damn.

Andrew leaves the house to begin his journey in the Army in about 7 hours. It's been a hectic night. He finally got his chick to leave about 2 hours ago. She was doing the whole "I wish you weren't leaving" thing, and he just wanted to finish packing and getting his bedroom cleaned and stuff put away.

We had a final talk before he went to bed about 20 minutes ago. There wasn't much personal stuff discussed. We just had a fun "chat". I think I did a fairly good job of not crying. I had tears, but it was the kind of tears that you can "sort of" pass off as the kind of tears that happen when you yawn. If I started to sound choked up, I faked a cough or two to give me time to recompose myself.

Damn.

Dude, you're making ME cry now.

Your son is gonna be OK at boot camp.

Let us know how he does, OK?

wishing nothing but luck and well wishes his way! He will be fine and you will get used to it as well. I think he will go through so many changes and learn so much new that it will be much easier for him.
I have to say, don't fool yourself about being able to pass your emotions off for coughs and sleep tears... I am sure he felt it and knows how you feel... he sounds like a strong and independent young man... he will do well!

did he also never listen and live on candy and chocolate?

Now there is an idea for a hair cut... haha I really need to do something with his hair... either let it grow out more which is tough for him cause it's thick and he will sweat too much in the summer... or buzz it off again like he had it before...

Maybe I'll post this here and the Our kids threadAs stated earlier Moira is running at Nationals this afternoon. She went All American last year. if anyone wanted to watch the race along with me they are streaming it @ Armorytrack.com. Find the link for NSIC and go to on the air. She will be running in the second heat of the Girls 5k race to start around 215. She is in blue, dark ponytail6th seed

God, your last sentence made me laugh. I'm sure you were laughing and having a ball during those meltdowns and hissy fits. Sorry I'm laughing at what was probably an exhausting experience (kids will do that to ya!).. it's what i do. :innocent:

I use to sit four girls all under the age of 5 or 6 at the time (with one miscarriage in between ). The mother called me in a panic one night because she was trying to take the girls Christmas pictures in her living room and of course it was nearly impossible to get all four girls to cooperate and smile for more than 1 second. OMG, what a fiasco that was!. The mother was kinda nieve and stupid though. She gave the 2 year old chocolate to try to keep her still and then became mad when the 2 yr old wiped chocolate over her Christmas sweater. She lost her patience and called the girl a fat turd. I gave the girl a little reindeer that was nearby to hold in front of her so you couldn't see the chocolate stain and just kept distracting the girls to get them all to look in my direction long enough for her to get a snap. In the end the picture didn't come out bad at all.

it is sooo easy to lose your patience with your own kids... they usually give you a harder time than anybody else... I used to be able to easily control my niece.. I always figured having my own would be a breeze... it's been more like a strong wind or a tornado even...

I don't have all that much experience with kids (as my womb is infertile) but I have a zen like patience when I am around them. Just be silly and loving and let them be themselves. I would never call a kid a 'fat turd'.

I've never had to take their photos though (despite rumors) so that could be a task.

I wouldn't know as I was clearly photogenic from a young age as we've seen.

We're about five or six weeks away from our first... I'm excited, and slightly freaked out!

and, as you should be, because kids do not come with instructions.

quick advice, fwiw.

a) kids are indestructable, not fine china. handle them.
b) you'll learn what cry means what. kind of like how birds sing
c) soft spot on the head. if its indented, they are thirsty
d) the beginning is hell. think of it as boot camp. once they start to sleep through the nite, you've graduated.
e) they are nothing more than blobs at first. once they start to interact, then they become fun and interesting.
f) most important. millions upon millions of other parents have all gone through this. you are no different. suck it up and keep pushing forward. "i cant do this" does not exist.

one more important thing. they grow so fucking fast. take all the pics and video that you can as often as you can.

good luck. god speed.

oh, even more important. the mrs will be a wreck for some time, emotionally and mentally. its the hormones. pamper her because she deserves it. if she's being difficult, just swallow it and deal. it'll straighten out soon..

enjoy !

Let us know how he does, OK?

No update yet. He's been in boot camp for 9 days, and I haven't heard from him since he called from the bus that took him from the airport to Ft. Knox. From what I've been finding out, it could be a couple more weeks before he can call, but I should start getting letters soon.

I know a guy who's a retired Marine. His name is Jean and I met him through the breast cancer walks that I do ... he was stationed on active duty in Iraq when his mom died from breast cancer, so he walks in her memory/honor.

Good guy, even after all that sappy stuff I said about him. Warm, quick witted and very handsome.

But it'd take a lot more convincing for me to give my blessing to any child of mine to become a Marine. (And I don't even have kids yet.)

This is because most of the Marines (or kids who wanted to become Marines) I've encountered through the years have been, well, mentally unstable. That frightens me.

I'm sure your son will figure his life out on his own ... don't forget, a lot can happen over the next 6 years!

This is because most of the Marines (or kids who wanted to become Marines) I've encountered through the years have been, well, mentally unstable. That frightens me.

No update yet. He's been in boot camp for 9 days, and I haven't heard from him since he called from the bus that took him from the airport to Ft. Knox. From what I've been finding out, it could be a couple more weeks before he can call, but I should start getting letters soon.

Oh, yeah... I talked to ex wife #2 today. My 12 year old son wants to be a Marine.:help:

It's not unusual for them to keep recruits from calling for a long while. They make them earn it. I'll bet he writes a letter soon.

I think it's normal that he wants to be like his brother... I was at my friend's house yesterday; her bf was just shipped off for Iraq for the third time today... his younger brother came to visit with the family and he insisted in shaving his head like his brother later he was very upset and cried why he had to go... it was pretty emotional.
But they are also proud and look up to them for what they do.

I never said I wouldn't trust the USMC with my life in a crisis situation.

There's nobody better than a Marine when the shit hits the fan. That little bit of insanity tends to save lives more often than not when the rest of the world goes psycho.

Still, they do give me pause due to past bad experiences with individuals associated with the Corps. (Case-in-point: The ex-boyfriend from college. Gun collection; one intended for use on ex-fiancee's half-brother, so he didn't touch or handle it without gloves. He also had live grenades in his bedroom, which he obtained from his mentor who was a retired Marine colonel. After we broke up, he followed me around like the unhinged stalker he actually is.)

WOO HOO!!! After 3 weeks and 3 days, I finally heard from my son from boot camp at Fort Knox, KY. I got a letter AND a phone call today! The call was only a couple of minutes. I think he used most of his time to call his girlfriend. Makes sense. He says he's doing pretty well and has even been promoted to E-2. That means an extra $185 bucks a month, and his first chevron on his uniform. Though he's doing well, he gets a little uncomfortable when the drill sergeant invokes my son's name when screaming at other recruits who want to quit.

I feel so much better now that I have his mailing address and have heard his voice sounding possitive!

Not sure how many people are from NJ but I started a blog on playgrounds called www.njplaygrounds.com/blog-n-photos
If you need a free place to take your kid(s) and want to check out the playground before you go, check it out. If you want to let me know of a great place in your area, feel free to PM me or contact via email, I'm getting ready to tour some new ones this spring/summer to include on the site.

I also just updated the homepage to include a really important law (Adam's Act which established a National Sex Offender Registry Law) that could expire if states do not comply with the deadline. I got a great link from Oprah.com that includes a sample letter which you can cut and paste to send to our gov't reps. http://www.oprah.com/article/oprahshow/20090220-tows-adam-walsh-act

Yes, I have 202 programmed as well as the oprah channel 156, the conflicted housewife... And my baby girl is doing well too, she's a month old..

When my son was 2 his mom and him were wrestling around on the floor, she was playing keep away with a toy of his. He asked her first if he could have his toy back, of course she giggled and said no. Second time he asks her please can he have his toy back she says get it and holds it away from. Third time he asks her he says dont mess with me mom can i please have my toy back again she laughed and held it away. He grabbed a handful of hair on each side of her head, headbutted her in the nose and broke it, as she rolled around bleeding he picks up his toy and walks off.

It's really sad, with how big a snafu these "legends" seats are price-wise, that you can pick out the 10 people sitting behind home plate.

Maybe it's all the beers i downed earlier, maybe not, but here goes. My oldest son was diagnosed autistic at age 2. Since then, due to the efforts of my wife and a whole gang of professionals he's progressed to the point where he may not even be considered on the spectrum at all. He is still a bit behind in speech, but he's using full sentences, maintaining full eye conact, and generally being a normal kid. I've never been the guy to trumpet personal shit to a message board, but my boy's efforts and their results have brought me to tears and i had to share them with someone. To the folks out there with kids on the spectrum, have heart. It can and does get better.

That is great news! I agree, a lot of autistic kids can be treated and improve through hard work on both, the parents and the kids side.
My former host kid had aspergers and his mother put a LOT of effort into physical therapy and practice, going through different schools all the way to home schooling just to figure out what was best. His cousin is autistic as well and she is a teenager now ... you can barely tell she has the condition anymore.
Congrats on this achievement and I hope he stays well if not get even better!

Miles got his first cold this week and it turned into bronchiolitis. Oh man is that rough watching him cough and cough, with the runny eyes and fever. He's almost 6 months old now and it's just an ordeal holding his head still while he's howling so we can give him the antibiotics. He's much much better now, and he tried his best to smile through the mucus, but there were about 5 minutes last Sunday where he kind of went limp, wouldn't really open his eyes, wouldn't take the boob, that scared the shit out me. My wife and I compared notes afterward and we were both seconds away from really freaking out but we both held it together for the benefit of the other.

Here's a pic of me and Miles from weekend before last:
