well, she ended up having pneumonia. They are keeping her overnight at the hospital. My wife is there with her now, and I just got back. she was laughing and giggling and seemed in good spirits, so hopefully it is just one night
Here's hoping she'll be fine. Keep us posted.

Anberlin opening her gifts yesterday morning...I love the look on her face when she first sees her Dora tableset......she reaches and touches it like "Is it real?" Then when she warms up to it all, man it made my heart swell. I understand what my folks went through with my brother and I now.....its more fun to watch them open gifts that to receive them myself.
enjoy!

my son usually wants me to take his pictures all the time but when I want to take his picture for portraits he will throw a tantrum instead... he came home to seeing the backdrop in my living room the other day and he right away got mad... though I had no plans of taking his picture

It would be awesome if you had one where your older son was mugging and the younger one was smiling, so you could put them side by side.

We went to ENT (ear nose throat) doc yesterday for a discussion about putting tubes in my son's ears - he's getting a lot of infections.
So long story short:
Doc gets done poking in his ears and checking his throat - and there's a pin down procedure you have to follow for this. My son's not having it. But my wife holds him for it and the doc gets done and backs off him.
My son's looking at him ... with the most pissed off baby face I've ever seen. Staring at him. Glowering.
MEH! he yells at him... still staring at him, and swats the air. Funniest shit ever.
Doc says" Idk what he just said, but I'm sure there was an expletive."

I just had to answer the door for the police.
John decided to call 911.
I have no idea how the planets aligned to make that happen.
I think he's going to be smart but no 11 month old knows calling 911.
Funny though.
Maybe the phone defaults to that if the phone's off the hook for awhile ? idk.

It hit me this evening that my son who is a senior in high school will be graduating in 4 months and in August will go away to college. I spent hours this evening crying because I had to start choosing pictures for his senior display they do for the swim team before the regional meet next month. I have pictures of the kids on the walls...ect.. but I pulled out pictures of him when he was probably 4 years old and he's just adorable and I miss those little boy days so much. It must be a mom thing because everything hit all at once...I have cried over the past few months when we went to look at his senior picture proofs and every now and again I will get the sad mommy moment but for some reason it hit like a ton of bricks tonight. We are finishing college applications and ordering the cap and gown and invitations. It all becomes very real very fast and although I am usually a very level headed well planned person this is just killing me. He actually attended my high school graduation since I did the teen pregnancy thing and it's almost like we have grown up together and while I have a daughter that's 14 who I absolutely adore because she's like a mini me... for some reason my relationship with my son has had this sort of unspoken bond since it was hard to imagine when I was 17 that I would ever be able to do right by the little guy and in a lot of ways he made me into a better person...I could have not asked for a better son and I am so proud of the man that he's become. I would have not done anything any differently if I had to do it over again even though it was hard to be a mother when I was not even legally an adult when he was born
It makes me think of people like Casey and Dave and those with the toddlers who can be just a handfull...enjoy every minute...even those minutes that involve you pulling out your hair because they go in a blink of an eye and you find yourself going through a box of Kleenex and knowing you really shouldn't be this sad because you raised a good kid but you can't imagine how different it will be when they aren't there every day.

I have a close friend who's son left for college this year. She has cried so much about it. When she starts feeling better, he comes home for the weekend. She cries again, when he goes back. And of course, when he does come back, he wants to spend time with his girlfriend. He's a really good kid, and I keep telling her that he's in college, and a responsible son, because she's such a good mother. Instead of crying, she should be smiling. It doesn't work.
Congratulations on doing a good job with your son, nukinfuts. Though my oldest isn't going to college, he is 18 and has his own life now. I know how you feel.

I am lucky to have a great guy that I have been with for 10 years that isn't their biological father but has been an absolute awesome role model. I have been divorced from their dad for 13 years and the kids have a decent relationship with him but he's kinda got his own things going on. I have learned that it doesn't necessairly take biology for someone to be a parent and I love my guy for never once acting like my kids are too much to deal with...the definition of family is what you make it.

loved your post nukinfuts, really got me teary, I'm an emotional mess expecting my 3rd in a couple months, and the time is already flying with my 2 boys. Sounds like you are doing a stellar job, I will take your advice on treasuring those moments! Someone told me you have your kids on loan and that you do your best and then you have to let them go, and I can imagine that being extremely difficult. Hope you can find comfort that you did a great job, you'll always be his mom, and there are some great years still ahead.

Heya pals... my little bud's going for minor surgery tomorrow. Please keep him in prayers and/or thoughts. Just some tubes but I'm getting weepy... and I should be sleeping. It's going to be an act of faith to let them put him out and work on him but I'm psyching myself up for it to be routine no big deal and back home okey doke. It's worth it to see him out of the pain he's been having - the screaming. Poor kid.

loved your post nukinfuts, really got me teary, I'm an emotional mess expecting my 3rd in a couple months, and the time is already flying with my 2 boys.
I know it all seems so hard when they are all little but it's all so worth it...poopie diapers...sleepless nights...all of that. The greatest thing I will probably ever accomplish is being a mom. You have to expect that any kid is going to make mistakes and mess up...you just have to make sure you minimize the mess ups and be there to pick them up or to bail them out :)

I will keep him in my thoughts. After the tubes he will feel so much better and be a happier kid, they really work and you'll be amazed how something like that will change his disposition.Poor guy..ear infections suck and it is hard to make that decision even if it's a minor procedure but I am sure it will be worth it.

He got out and slammed two bottles like I'd never seen. We just put him down he's babbling and he's A - ok. Obviously minor and all but the kind words and encouragement helped.
Katja - they're plastic - Doc was showing them to us in the office on the first visit - like a little maple syrup tap.

Thank you for writing this. My son is 11 weeks old, and I've been lucky enough to spend a lot of time with him, but it's good to be reminded to be greedy about the time we have.
It would be stupid for me to tell you not to be sad, so let me share what I've been experiencing these last couple of days. We've spent the last 10 days with
my parents, and I'm so happy for the relationship I have with them, and I'm 42. Watching him hold my son warmed my heart, and when we left today my mother whispered in
my ear that I have a beautiful family. It was all I could do not cry.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that you have a lot of life left to share with your kids.

What a great mom yer son has!
You are going to LOVE having a little boy. I have a son (the one that is leaving me to go to college...I knew that pushing good grades was a bad idea) and my daughter Megan will be 14 on Sunday..right now she has a mouth full of braces and is at that stage where in about a year she is going to be a knockout but I would rather her keep the braces and stay away from boys. You'll find that with your daughter you will understand so much because well you were a little girl once too but with a son it's a totally different relationship from what you will have with your daughter.

 There is nothing like being responsible for little people that will put things into perspective for you. It's like everything that you could ever have been selfish about goes away when you have a child. I tell my kids that they didn't come with an instruction manual or a warranty return so I am making it up as I go with them. The terrible twos are a bunch of crap...it's between the age of 3 and 4 that kids seem to go through that especially meanie butt stage...they will also go through that in the teenage years too but then you can ground them and take away their car and phone but at the age of 3 or 4 all you have to work with is time out.

Today is NCAA National Letter of Intent Signing Day where scholarship athletes sign to commit to the college they are attending. My daughter Moira signed her letter today to attend and run for Boston College. It was her first choice even without the running program and she found it to be a good fit. She got a nice scholarship too. Her High School did a nice presentation for her and a repoter from the local paper and even the diocese sent a representative.

I got a big shock today. I was headed out the door to take my 18 year old son job hunting (he hasn't bothered to get a license yet). I grabbed the phone book to make sure I could find the temp services, and he said he just wanted to go to one place. He handed me a piece of paper with the address to the Army Recruiting office.
He says he's been thinking about it since August. He still doesn't know for sure what he wants to do with the rest of his life, but one thing he's interested in is engineering, so he chose the Army over the other forces for that reason. I'm happy. I'm sad. I'm scared. I'm proud. Did I mention scared?
He may be going to the MEPS as soon as the end of next week.

Good for your son because he's made a decision and actually considered it for this long. It's a tough thing to choose!
I may disagree with the fact that we're fighting a 2-front war, but that doesn't mean those people who chose the armed services don't deserve my respect. I have a few friends who are service-people, including one on active-duty in Iraq with the Army and one retired Marine. They're good people.

I celebrated my 18th birthday in basic training at Fort Leonard Wood MO, doing 18 pushups over and over again. I was just thinking yesterday about sitting on the bus taking all us long haired recruits from the airport to the base to begin our training. It was a cold January night, and I remember feeling alone and frightened. I didn't know anyone else on that bus, really.
But that was the whole point, as it turns out. Learning for the first time that you're really on your own in this world and learning how to cope with it. Taking responsibility for yourself and facing challenges. I've always had the sense that I could deal with anything that could come my way as a result of my experience.
He'll be fine.
So my best friend called me the other day to tell me that he and his wife are about to have their first child in August. I sent him the following article to show him I happy and jealous I am of him. (http://www.theonion.com/content/news/this_is_the_happiest_day_of_my)

I just learned how to make a movie with Windows Moviemaker... I'm thinking this isn't the most hi - tech program out there but I was pretty pleased with myself so i thought I'd share.

I'm very jealous. Jack says "Da-da, Da-DA!" over and over. He also tries very hard to say "bottle."
I get about 2 and a half more weeks of being home with him full-time before (finally) going back to my full-time job. Although my in-laws are going to be watching him, I know I'm going to be a wreck for my first several days (weeks? months? forever?).

haha, he often picks things out himself... should I worry
I do buy his stuff most of the time at H&M, though as he gets older the stuff gets more pricey... their baby section always had the best sales... now we still only get stuff on sale there but I like their selection. Even the typical characters like Spiderman and Mickey or Snoopie, they care kind of more retro or stylish...LOL well and the clothes really hold up well in the wash

We just went through the same thing, and all of my wife's friends who went through it called to give their support a day or two before her first day back. It was uncanny. I don't know how they all knew, but they all called en masse to reassure her that it would be fine.
And it was, although that's easy for me to say, right? What I did to cushion the blow was walk her to the subway that morning, meet her at the station that night, and the next day I took Miles into town and we all had lunch.
We have my mother in law to watch him as well, and you should take great comfort in that. I couldn't imagine leaving him with a stranger, and knowing that he's well cared for and safe makes it all much much easier.

when I first went back to work I was miserable... I purposely went only 6h a day for another few months to adjust, but the daycare had the short end cause I wrote them letter long notes every week on how they should take care of him as if they never took care of an infant.
It takes a few weeks if not months to adjust, but all will be ok.
And you have family watching him, which adds to the comfort level.

I would be very proud of my son if he decided he wanted to serve in the military. I would be scared, I think any parent would be, but proud. You had to have done a pretty good job raising him if he just decided on his own that he wants to be in the military. Not too many kids his age think beyond themselves so pat on the back to you and good luck to him at boot camp.

Mora took fourth in the CT State Open Inddor track meet in the 3200m race. A little disappointing for her since she had hoped for top three and was passed at the finish line. She still made it to New Englands in two weeks. The girl who won it set a blistering pace and Moira tried to keep up with her, went out too fast against her coaches advice and paid the price down the stretch.

What you can't see is there's a third picture.
He's the invisible man.
That is HUGE!!!
Make sure to add that to his college apps. Many schools have no problem giving a little tuition help to musicians.
more than anything its a tribute to the school music leader that he gets them these opportunities-
but yes, all that stuff needs to be on college ap.
and casey, once again, she's a damn cute girl.

its so precious....having a child really puts life in perspective. I love this little girl.

Damn.
Andrew leaves the house to begin his journey in the Army in about 7 hours. It's been a hectic night. He finally got his chick to leave about 2 hours ago. She was doing the whole "I wish you weren't leaving" thing, and he just wanted to finish packing and getting his bedroom cleaned and stuff put away.
We had a final talk before he went to bed about 20 minutes ago. There wasn't much personal stuff discussed. We just had a fun "chat". I think I did a fairly good job of not crying. I had tears, but it was the kind of tears that you can "sort of" pass off as the kind of tears that happen when you yawn. If I started to sound choked up, I faked a cough or two to give me time to recompose myself.
Damn.
