this is a partisan issue? The fed does have a responsibility to keep up on infrastructure but we should be looking at cutting spending on all non-military programs until we can get to a balanced budget with 65% of our current debt paid off.

way to be a flaming racist
There are blacks in Newark? I was condemning the state of Jersey as a whole.
Sure it does. Look at the numbers for the highest cost per pupil around the country, excluding special ed. You'll see that the more money being spent, the lower the scores are. Education is funded properly in many places and the federal government shouldnt be responsible for funding local schools.
Or course not, there are wars to be funded.

You can't just say that without providing support, and no, your one example doesn't do that.

If a single example can be indicative of an entire entity, then I submit exhibit A of my "proof" that McCain supporters/volunteers/staffers are mentally unstable:
http://wwwimage.cbsnews.com/images/2008/10/24/image4544206g.jpg
See how stupid that is?
OK...where is the proof of the "Mo Money, Mo Problems" theory of education? And furthermore is there a "Less Money, More Problems" version as well?
Education needs to be looked at seriously in this nation. As we continue to de-fund and devalue our intellectual pursuits in this nation, we are going to continue to slide economically in the world economy.

Ive done a lot of research on this and it is a consistant trend nationwide. If you want to understand the problem, read about, dont just repeat the Dem talkers on this. Money does not equal better education.

Ok, so...
The government isn't responsible for the infrastructure of the United States, nor the education of it's citizens, nor the criminal dealings of Wall Street tycoons. Hmmm... Glad our tax dollars aren't being wasted on meaningless shit.

Education is obviously a complicated issue. The answer isn't just to throw more money at it. That doesn't win wars and certainly doesn't fix national issues. Every individual school system has to take a look at itself and identify what problems they have in order for solutions to be found.
But when you have to worry about crap like getting one of the new text books and not one of the beat up ones it certainly doesn't help encourage your learning.

New Gallup poll shows 75% of U.S. Jews plan to vote Obama (http://www.haaretz.com/hasen/spages/1031176.html)
A new poll released by the Gallup organization on Thursday shows Jewish voters favor Barack Obama over John McCain by more than 3 to 1, with 74% saying they will vote for Obama over 22% for McCain.
The poll's findings show that in spite of a certain measure of trepidation among some Jewish voters towards Obama early in his campaign, he is set to receive the same percentage of the Jewish vote (74%) as John Kerry in 2004, and only slightly less than the 80% of the Jewish vote that Al Gore received in 2000 when he had a Jewish running mate in Joe Lieberman.
This is interesting as the traditional voters that the Clinton Brothers claimed only they could deliver seem to all be home now.

Asking questions revolving around the idea that a candidate from either of the major political parties is a "Marxist" isn't ballsy...it's inspidid, uneducated, spiteful and a complete waste of time.
This would be the equivalent of a reporter asking McCain what it's like for him being a racist, or a Nazi. They're ridiculous slurs tossed at the parties by lazy people not interested in anything besides cheap shots.
To me that simply looked like her job application for a national gig on Fox News.

So Obama is a deficit hawk now? Are you kidding. He has proposed $900 billion in new spending. How about cut taxes and cut spending? Novel idea.
Or you can do what the republicans do now, cut taxes, spend more and go to war. Good, no great combination!

How about reaching achievement standards as a district before getting any new school construction money? Sean, you say, “but we need new schools with smaller classrooms and new facilities and we need to hire more teachers.” I agree. However let’s look at the Morton Middle School in Newark. Average class size is 6-7 students per teacher. Reading and Math proficiency for 8th graders hovers around 40%, F-O-R-T-Y-P-E-R-C-E-N-T. Yea, we need more school funding. Cost to teach these kids is 15k per year.
Yep, and I know someone who actually volunteers there, for free and the issues there go much deeper than you could even fathom with your short-sighted example. So yeah, it's just a coincidence the low rates happen in Newark where they can't get good teachers to work. Also, one shool is your example of what's wrong with the whole system, I think you need to look again.

Great point. My father expalined to me how the majority of the teachers at his school do just that - they train the students on how to master these tests for the particular subject at hand rather than actually teaching and allowing the students to form opinions, etc. This makes the teacher look great, the school looks great and thus earns better funding from the state, all the while leaving kids with a mind full of test answers that at best answers a few Jeopardy questions.

Reposted with permission from my sister:
I don't know if your friend has been able to pin down the origin of some of the rumors that have been proliferating the internet. I know at least one thing Charlie sent me came from Right Change.com (I think they may also go by the .org suffix as well).
Right Change.com is a 527 group out of North Carolina. It is largely bankrolled by its president Fred Eshelman, the CEO of a pharmaceutical research firm, who has contributed $2.7 million of the 3.8 million the group has raised this year. According to OpenSecrets.org, Eshelman has also contributed $2,300 to McCain's campaign. Two of the other three members of its board of directors are GOP state legislators in North Carolina. RightChange.com has spent just over $3 million so far.
The group has been running ads on national cable networks targeting Obama's tax proposals. The ads offier a false picture of how Obama's plan would affect small businesses.
Charlie woke me up this morning with the proclamation that Obama will never become president because he is not an American Citizen. He claims Obama admits this "out of his own mouth". I of course printed out a rebuttal from factcheck.org asd well as sending him a direct link to the correct information, and this is what he sends me:
Charlie Neunert (email deleted) to Stephanie Hicks-Neunert (email deleted)
8:07pm
This is not an accurate website to use about him being a citizen or not because it is written by an Obama supporter and friend. It is true that he is not a naturalized citizen and therefore can not be President of the US. Obama even admitted that he was borned in Kenya.
On Sun, Oct 26, 2008 at 1:09 PM, Stephanie (email deleted) wrote:
Hi Charlie !, Stephanie wanted you to see this site: http://www.factcheck.org/askfactcheck/does_barack_obama_have_kenyan_citizenship.html.
To use Charlie's favorite phrase "Bottom Line:" (and if I hear it much more before Nov. 3rd, I may strangle him), people like Charlie do not care about the truth. For whatever reason, Charlie and others like him, wants to trust the lies and false rumors, he does not want to know the truth, and he apparently likes being lied to and loves believing and and perpetrating lies. They don't mind being puppets of the Republican party and big money corporations as long as their religious egos are stroked enough. If it weren't for this whole family values invention, The GOP would not be able to garner the vote of the middle class.
I am so disgusted. I've tried to talk to him, but my word/thoughts/opinions don't hold weight with him and haven't for some time now. After today, I'm not discussing politics with him any more. Just a few minutes ago he asked me for what I tried to show him before. I said "No, I"m done", which may be wrong, but it's how it is. Yesterday he was talking to someone and said "Oh, I use factcheck.org all the time". Today he discounts factcheck because then he'd have to admit to me he was wrong about something. I'm sick of his two facedness.
I still don't know who is behind the "American Family Association".
I did have a dream, however, that it was the day after the election and that Obama had won. Oh, the wonderful happiness I felt in that dream. I hope I get to experience that again for real on November 4th.
This election it's worse then the Swift Boaters. It's like 2004 was a seminar for this one.

Some of the biggest slimeballs I have ever met have been Beltway Bandit contractors. I have seen so much corruption with defense and intelligence contractors. It has been much worse under Bush, especially when Rumsfeld was SECDEF since he was so hell bent on privatizing the DoD. Far too many contractors lie about their ability to fulfill a contract and enter the agreement fully knowing that they will not fulfill their obligation. Yet they put in a bid and get it because of their connections in the Pentagon or intel community. Iraq has been the most disgusting example of this corruption but you can find it in all corners of the Pentagon and Langley. On top of that, these are lapel-flag-pin-wearing, Washington Times right-wing pricks who will slam on someone for not singing God Bless America at a Yankees game yet steal money from the nation without thinking twice.

FAIRFIELD — City and school district leaders have "condemned" the actions of a Fairfield resident who last week displayed a ghost with Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama's name on it — hanging from a tree by a noose.
Mike Lunsford said he hung the ghost in his front yard as a Halloween decoration and later decided to write "Hussain" in green marker on it. Obama's middle name is Hussein. Lunsford also attached part of a campaign yard sign with Obama's last name to his ghost decoration.
NEWBERG, Ore. - Students and school leaders at a small Christian university expressed outrage Wednesday at the discovery of a life-size cardboard effigy of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama hanging from a tree on campus.

How did he "incite" such a thing?
Main Entry: in·cite
Pronunciation: \in-ˈsīt\

Etymology: Middle French inciter, from Latin incitare, from in- + citare to put in motion — more at cite

: to move to action : stir up : spur on : urge on
— in·cit·ant \-ˈsī-tənt\ noun
— in·cite·ment \-ˈsīt-mənt\ noun
— in·cit·er noun
synonyms incite , instigate , abet , foment mean to spur to action. incite stresses a stirring up and urging on, and may or may not imply initiating <inciting a riot>. instigate definitely implies responsibility for initiating another's action and often connotes underhandedness or evil intention <instigated a conspiracy>. abet implies both assisting and encouraging <aiding and abetting the enemy>. foment implies persistence in goading <fomenting rebellion>.

I said absolutely nothing of the sort. What Obama is doing is drawing out excessive vitriol from some of the population opposed to him, these people are showing up at GOP rallies and functions and spouting off their extreme rhetoric and the GOP, for the most part, is doing zilch to squash it or denounce it (outside of McCain that one time he couldn't pretend like he didn't hear it when it was literally right in front of his face). They're tolerating their opponent being called an "Arab" or a "Muslim" or a "terrorist." This is well beyond the usual sniping rhetoric that goes on.

So you think he should just ignore what has happened at these rallies? He absolutely should have addressed it and did. Palin's ridiculous attacks whipped their supporters up into a frenzy that incited this. And then if Obama ignored it, it would have been "see - he won't even say he's not a terrorist".
Not false outrage - simply addressing the ridiculous shit that is being said about him at rallies after McCain claimed he was going to run a clean campaign.

Ridiciulous. This is an ongoing pattern of behavior well beyond even the usual lows of American politics. Uusally we have one or two "OMG, DID THAT JUST HAPPEN?!?" moments per cycle, but this is a continuing string of occurances to the point that it's just expected and sad. You have zero idea what kind of threats have shown up. Neither of us do. Given the population and how whackadoos are attracted to people on thios level and view presidents and presidential candidates and the unfortunate history of people going after presidents and candidates, I guarentee you BOTH candidates have received serious threats to their safety. There is, however, a difference between those types of fringe threats and tolerating an atmosphere of ugly and hateful slander at major rallies because a campaign has gone off the rails.
What is McCain, going to make the biggest talking point in his campaign, please dont insult my opponent? He did it once and did it forcefully.

It's very telling that you move from just posting the video to linking to an article about it that actually debunks the charges, by giving us the transcript of the quote in its full context and then this update:
UPDATE: The Obama campaign is responding by sending around a report from Politico in which Cass Sunstein, a Harvard law professor who is advising Obama, downplays the remarks as law professor-speak.
Politico reports:
"Sunstein argued that Obama is discussing redistribution in a relatively narrow legal context: The discussion in the 1970s of whether the Supreme Court would create the right to a social safety net -- to things like education and welfare. He also noted that in the interview, Obama appears to express support for the court's rejection of that line of argument, saying instead that the civil rights movement should aim for the same goals through legislative action.
"What the critics are missing is that the term 'redistribution' didn’t mean in the Constitutional context equalized wealth or anything like that. It meant some positive rights, most prominently the right to education, and also the right to a lawyer," Sunstein said. "What he’s saying – this is the irony of it – he’s basically taking the side of the conservatives then and now against the liberals."

It does though. I read the article. It is scary. Obama clearly believes in redistribution of wealth. His tax plan indicated that. How can you get a "tax rebate" if you dont pay taxes? That is redistribution.
My fears are now that he will appoint justices that will try to advocate that from the bench. We have that problem in New Jersey and between that and total Democrat control, we are drowning here. Obama's ideological dream has been realized here in NJ and it has proven to be a disaster.

I want to hear him and see him say it. Make his promises to my face.
Last time he was asked a direct question, that I saw, was on 60 minutes:
"What will you do you first week in office?"
"I'll sit down with my cabinet, and figure out what we're gonna do with health care...what we're gonna do with Iraq and Afghanistan....etc..."

Actually, the Democratic party actually does very little for minorities outside of pandering for their vote over the last 30 years or so. Ironically, wih a black president, I think the Democrats will do even less for minorities. That's one of my biggest gripes with the party...the Republicans tend to demonize minorities and cast them aside whereas the Democrats talk a good game but ultimately also largely cast them aside. I think that that is a little bit unfair to say that in reference to me, as i almost never use that response other then that he said people get annoyed by it. You can call Obama by any name it doesnt matter, me i think of him as an empty suit but thats just me

Who is complaining about aliases? I pointed out that it's petty to use a nickname in that way when people are trying to generally have a civil discussion/debate. The person that brought up the idea of "aliases" is the person that is insisting on the using the name as snidely as possible.
For several pages now we're seeing you and Sean continually changing the subject whenever anyone brings up a point or asks a question or complaining about people "freaking out." How hard is it to just stay on any course of discussion?

Again, who said the name calling bothers me? I'm proving a point that JerseySean is being inconsistent by making these two statements within a couple few minutes of each other:
I do it to bust balls. But, Obama went by the alias, Barry Soetoro. John McCain never had an alias.
Why do you take it so personally? People called Reagan, Ronny. Calm down

No response, so you make up the rules and declare something "undebatable" simply because you can't debte it. No response, so everyone you disagree with is just being "too sensitive." But i know i brought up a point about health care that was never answered. And that was how Obama is going to pay for his health care initiatives for anyone making under $250k. If you are a small business what incentive do you have under the Obama plan to have your business grow above $250k if you will then have to provide health care for your workers, when if you stay under $250k the govt will pay for it. I thought it was a valid question when McCain asked Obama that at the third debate and Obama didnt answer it, and i think it is just as valid now.

Who is getting worked up? You and Sean keep saying things along those lines like we're sitting here screaming through our posts, furious and enraged over Sean calling him "Barry." Two people tried to ask him what the rationale is behind the nickname. That's it. He couldn't even answer that. socialism
–noun
1. a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.
2. procedure or practice in accordance with this theory.
3. (in Marxist theory) the stage following capitalism in the transition of a society to communism, characterized by the imperfect implementation of collectivist principles.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/socialism
It isn't helpful to your argument if you use words that you don't understand. It could lead to a stuation where you might not recognize evil politicians who are actually doing what you are pretending to be outraged by.
But Palin’s criticisms of Obama’s “spread the wealth” remarks are ironic, as she recently characterized Alaska’s tax code in a very similar way. Just last month, in an interview with Philip Gourevitch of the New Yorker, Palin explained the windfall profits tax that she imposed on the oil industry in Alaska as a mechanism for ensuring that Alaskans “share in the wealth” generated by oil companies:
And Alaska—we’re set up, unlike other states in the union, where it’s collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs. … It’s to maximize benefits for Alaskans, not an individual company, not some multinational somewhere, but for Alaskans.
In fact, Alaska’s Clear and Equitable Share (ACES) program, which manages the redistribution of oil wealth in Alaska, brings in so much money that the state needs no income or sales tax. In addition, this year ACES will provide every Alaskan with a check for an estimated $3,200.
As Hendrick Hertzberg notes, “Perhaps there is some meaningful distinction between spreading the wealth and sharing it…but finding it would require the analytic skills of Karl the Marxist.”

As a shareholder in oil companies that do business in Alaska that must pay that socialist tax, THAT BITCH BE STEALIN MY MONEY, and I for one am outraged.

Happens all the time. TC, LA, MS, AL all do the same thing. That is standard practice in this country. Moreover in oil country, if you belong to a condominium association or designated housing development and they find oil, all members of that development are entitled to royalties.
