i dont understand that. Ok if you dont agree with a foul call, but when you tackle like that and crush a guys leg, how can you even say a word. Just walk the fuck off. Its like a guy who argues a call after mugging someone. Just shut up and leave

I think he was emotional he possibly just ruined that guys career. And as a captain you gotta think he's a good guy. That really looked like a really unfortunate situation.

There was some nice dirt goin on though.
Speakin of dirt, fuckin Everton. they better bounce back tomorrow. If they can get 3 from the spurs they have some favorable games coming up and still have a decent shot at 5th, an a low but outside shot at 4th. STOP FALLIN ASLEEP IN GAMES
And they lose Donovan soon too. Cahill is out a few weeks and Fellaini is a huge injury. FUCKIN STEP IT UP ARTETA

I heard something about that virus shit. thats always funny to me when that happens to a pro team.
Everton might blow it, but they have been playin really well and I gotta think they will bounce back. I havent seen them for years but what I have seen, they have played pretty well the game after they shit the bed in a game. Although I think playin so many games might have worn on them, especially with guys out and guys just gettin back. Hopefully another game wont take too much toll, they can get through, and then they got a week before the next game, i think in Goodison against Hull.
And Saha is fuckin LAZY. He scores goals and he is really good, but half the fuckin time he has a chance at a ball he just stands there. Its almost like he ONLY goes full out when he thinks he has a chance to score himself. Fuck you, Saha. WAKE UP. THERE IS A GAME GOING ON

the chance is if there is a work stoppage in MLS. If their isnt, Galaxy will never allow it cause without beckham and donovan they wouldnt sell a fuckin ticket.
Everton is tryin to get investors to get the 12 or so million it would cost to buy donovan. Chelsea scares me some but there is a few things goin for everton in that. One, would donovan even play for Chelsea? They seem to have more ability than Everton and when healthy, Donovan wouldnt always start in goodison. Plus Landon would also have to agree and it just feels like he connected with Everton more so than just England soccer. I think if Everton has an offer, that he wouldnt go anywhere else
Chelsea planning £10m bid for Landon Donovan to replace Joe Cole? (http://www.the90thminute.com/soccer/2010/03/chelsea-planning-10m-bid-for-landon-donovan-to-replace-joe-cole/)
A report has come out today (Sunday, March 7, 2010) that Chelsea are prepared to make a 10 million pound bid to sign Landon Donovan on a permanent deal. Speculation is that Chelsea will lose Joe Cole to Manchester United and sign Donovan to replace him. According to a report from people.co.uk, Chelsea manager Carlos Ancelotti has been impressed by the American during his stint at Everton and will look to sign him on a permanent deal.
It would be funny to piss off Snoogans, but Landon isn't a big of enough an asshole for my Chelsea tastes.

"First of all, winning was important and it's nice to get a goal," Donovan said. "There is a chance. We will know more this week. If that was it then I'm happy. Maybe we can stay a little longer, we'll see.
"The fans, the people here are fantastic, the players are fantastic. I've enjoyed it here tremendously."
Everton manager David Moyes said he would have talks with the Galaxy about keeping Donovan a little longer but would respect the MLS club's decision.
"I said to him 'go on and finish with a goal'. I thought he finished it great. The efforts he has put in for us over the past two months is terrific," Moyes said. "I hope it's not his last game (at home). He's certainly good for the game next week against Birmingham.
"I might try and see if I can extend it a little bit longer but, at the moment, the word from America is that it won't be possible and we respect that decision."

It looks like Donovan might get to stay if MLS strikes:

No strike for MLS. A 5 year agreement has been reached today.
Speaking of MLS, NY Red Bulls have an exhibition match at their new stadium tonight against Brazilian team, Santos. Robinho's team.
It'll be on Fox Soccer Channel at 6:30pm est.
Even though I'm spoiled with great European football each week, I think I'm going to attempt to follow MLS more closely this season.
Teams like Toronto FC, Seattle Sounders, DC United, Columbus Crew have great crowds and help the atmosphere of the game. That should hopefully continue with the addition of Philadelphia Union joining the league, plus let's hope that the NY Red Bulls get huge turnouts with their new stadium.

man I wish I had gotten into this shit sooner. I never hated soccer, and I guess the lack of accessibility to good soccer didnt help, but im so fuckin hooked its nuts.
I know I sorta just picked Everton like 4 months ago to be my team without any REAL connection other than they had the US goalkeeper at the time, but soccer passed the major sports test. I have enjoyed watching games between teams that I dont really have an interest in, and also arent like top teams.
I watched a game, i think it was hull city and wolves, who are both garbage. I know hull city was playing cause I watched mostly to watch Jozy, but I really enjoyed watching the game and it was 2 shit teams.
I cant watch a Pirates vs Padres game. I just cant. So soccer is already moved ahead of baseball.
And even though it was arbitrary, i jumped in full with Everton, and I really feel like its my team now. Donovan being there for awhile helped but I really feel when they lose like I do when the Giants lose. Not quite like Rutgers yet, but its pretty big.
So for those of you who asked me to report back in a few months, the grade is an A+. im a full fledged fan, ive even gone outta my way to catch a couple la liga games and have watched some serie A. I really like it. I wish I didnt wait so long, but im so glad I got in as european coverage in the US started to boom. Soccer, in general, and Everton definately have a fan for life.

Welcome aboard. I have been playing/watching and addicted since 1980 when I was 5 years old. I support Aston Villa because I went to school in Birmingham, Alabama. Villa are from birmingham, England so it sort of worked. Also, they are American owned and Randy Lerner does it the right way, unlike the awful Glazer family.
Lerner actually donates a lot of money to local charities. If you notice on their shirts, the name, 'Acorns.' Not to be confused with the radical community action group ACORN here in the States. Acorns actually works with Villa to give funding to kids who otherwise can't afford to play the game.
Like you, my team has a fan for life!!!!! This is the best sport and the best league in the world---PERIOD!!!!!

Last season a few of us did fantasy Premier league. Maybe we can start it up for next season again.
id be down for that fantasy thing
and part of what i like about everton is that they do it with limits. They really have to be smart and Moyes seems to be a hell of a manger. So I respect that they can compete like they do without the resources some of the teams they hang with have.
I played soccer when I was a kid and I liked it, I just never really watched any aside from world cup. But I always did enjoy world cup. I think its just I watched so many american sports and basketball was so much better back then so I didnt need it. This year shit just go so awful after college football ended I was like fuck it, lets give this a go, and I was hooked ever since the first game I watched.
It was Man u and i believe Bolton. The next week I watched Everton play Arsenal to a 2-2 draw that they shoulda won, and I been gettin up early every saturday since

Great CL match last night. Glad to see Munich pull off the big win. I also found Sir Alex's "typical Germans" comment to be out of line. If his players learned to maintain control then they wouldn't have been shorthanded for a lot of the game. He really showed what a crybaby and sore loser he is.

Hull City was officially relegated today.
That means Hull, Burnley and Portsmouth are gone from the Premier League next season, with Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion already earning promotion for next season.
A 3rd team has yet to be decided because the Coca Cola Championship has a play-off system to determine 3rd place.
So one of these 4 look to be promoted:
Blackpool
Nottingham Forest
Cardiff City
Leicester City

Blackpool earn the final Premier League spot by beating Cardiff City 3-2.
So the 3 teams leaving the Premier League next season are Hull City, Burnley, and Portsmouth.
The 3 taking their spots will be Newcastle United, West Bromwich Albion, and Blackpool.
For Blackpool, this will be their first time in the Premier League. Pretty remarkable story, 9 years ago they were in the lowest division possible, so for them to climb that far up is pretty great.
Don't forget the Champions League final is today at 2:30 est on Fox.

One of the reasons I'm glad I started paying attention to soccer was so I can experience the pure awesome that is Diego Maradona.
Diego Maradona's already entertaining run as manager of the Argentine National team gets better today with the addition of two words to the storyline you know you wanted to hear in connection with Maradona: luxury toilets. Per a request from Argentina to the University of Pretoria's Performance Centre, Maradona requires the presence not only of new plumbing, but the astonishing E-bidet:
The E-Bidet features a heated seat, a warm air blow-dryer and front and rear bidet wands. It sells for 450 dollars (358 euros) at online retailer sandman.com, which bills it as "the world's best toilet seat".

Fabregas has already told the Gunners he wants to return to the club where he began his career, but Arsenal are desperate to hold on to their captain.
On Tuesday, Barcelona confirmed their presidential elections will take place on June 13. And at the same time director general Joan Oliver stated that while Barca had yet to make a formal bid for Fabregas, he remains central to their transfer plans.
Pienaar wants a new deal by the start of the WC or he is gonna leave. FUCK. Maybe they are gonna let him go cause they plan to buy Donovan?

im like most other americans and get into it every 4 years. i HATE the guidos that root for italy and have never even been there. same goes for every other american born person that roots for another country.
That being said i'll root for the US and switch alliances to England once we're out.
The problem is i can NEVER find premiere league on television anywhere. and MLS sucks.

during the season, premiere league is on alot. ESPN 2 usually has the saturday morning game at 745 am, then fox soccer has games at 10 and 1230 and i know espn just doubled the coverage for next season so they will start carrying midweek games as well. Once the season starts ill post where the games can be seen

I'm torn here: I would like more EPL games on TV here, but at the same time, I would love the MLS to be able to rise to that level, so we have a premier-level soccer association right here in the US.
I do think MLS has been wise to not push it, but they're going to have to step it up a bit soon, especially if the EPL and other soccer associations in Europe and Latin America increase their TV presence in America.

EPL is considering buying in and using the MLS for like reserves and juniors, which would boost it huge. Also, the older guys will start coming over. Lampard already said he is prob gonna end his career in the US. Things will get a big big boost in the next few years

Yeah, the advancements in ball technology fucking piss me off. It's a pressurized rubber sphere with a leather cover. How fucking difficult is it to grasp? The plastic layers mess with it too much. If you can make a ball do Tim Wakefield knuckleballs in front of the keeper, doesn't mean you have to.

just wanted to say i was at the game on saturday. it was a great time, good atmosphere, largest crowd for a soccer match in philly history. as everyone noticed, it was a different team first half and second half but overall, i hate to say it, it wasn't too encouraging. i think turkey were still the more attractive team to watch. although we had some good moments, i doubt we stand a chance of beating england. also, i think it's dreadful that we don't have any legit chants/songs or even colors. the "U-S-A! U-S-A!" thing sucks. lots of US fans were wearing red, which isn't too good playing against Turkey.

i took one out of the package at the store and kicked it around for a few cause im not about to pay 130 bucks for this thing.
Now im by no means a soccer expert, but this thing was nuts. It fuckin hurts. Its hard as a rock. I can bend a ball but not a whole lot and i cant really control where it goes, but this thing moves like mad. I tried to kick it like 10 feet and it hooked into the shelf. I didnt get a chance to do much more cause after that they told me to buy it or leave. So I left

in fairness, turkey isnt horrible, and the first half they were messing around with combos to see what worked. They had dempsey playin forward and shit. The team they brought out in the second half is probably alot closer to what we will see in the WC

Crazy to think that pre-season starts this week for the upcoming 2010-2011 season.
People that don't follow this sport don't realize how little off-time these players get...especially the star players.
Take Bastian Schweinsteiger for example. His season ended on May 22 cause he played in the Champions League Final.
A week later he had to report to Germany for WC training. All of June he's playing matches. He'll most likely be playing in the final as Germany are dominating this tournament.
Two weeks after the final is when pre-season matches begin and then the season starts in August.
Sure, the players involved in the WC will most likely be having lite workouts compared to the rest of their teammates, but it's still gotta be a grind for them.
I's just crazy to think how much these guys play.

Which is why I believe Soccer is the hardest/toughest sport. In a sport like Baseball a player, even after winning the World Series, can chill and get a bit fat for a few weeks. They don't have to start training/get in shape till January really. Soccer players have to be in shape all year round.

oh and that makes the sport oh soooo exciting bc they train

Yah, I disagree with that statement on soooo many levels. To play any sport at the highles level is hard as hell, but to play soccer is not. Hence it's popularity in so many third world countries. Don't worry though, the US is quickly attaining that status so perhaps it'll be bigger here soon.

ESPY Best Moment: US National Football Team.
Ummm ... someone tell the Americans that their team finished tied for 9th ... with 7 other teams. That's like cheering for the guy who lost in the 100m semifinal. Remember those Cool Runnings dudes that didn't make the Jamaica sprint team and had to do bobsledding instead? That's the US team. The US team is like an 8-8, 9-7 NFL team that doesn't make the playoff. the US team is like a team in a bowl game you don't watch and forget it even existed 2 days after it happened.

Once again, what moment? They barely beat ALGERIA.
If Alabama scores a touchdown to win on a Hail Mary against a I-AA school, is that a great moment? No, it's a moment they avoid extreme humiliation.
It seems I have a greater respect and higher expectations from the US national team, than US nationals do. The US team isn't bad, they are, in fact, pretty good, however they are a victim to decades of bad coaching, an underdeveloped, over-managed and just generally crappy MLS, and an asystematic player development program. The US soccer program can be great, in 12 years, if they put their mind to it, they can be a great team, on par with Germany and Spain, but right now, they are just where the world cup showed them to be - tied for 9th with 7 other teams.

How many goals do you expect to see in a soccer match.
Also, you seem to be undermining Algeria. Although they looked weak in the World Cup, Algeria are a decent team. Obviously they qualified for the World Cup, so they must've done something right.
Think of all the countries that didn't qualify: Egypt, Russia, Sweden, Columbia, etc...

They qualified from the CAF. They lost to Gambia and only managed a tie against Liberia and Rwanda in qualifying. Algeria is not a good football team.
PS: Where in the world is Columbia? Colombia I'm aware of, did you mean The District of Columbia? It's not a country.
