US Women's team in Olympic Qualifying tonight won 14-0 vs Dominican Republic. DAAAAAAAAAMN!

13-0 today against Guatemala. Next game for them will be Tuesday against Mexico.

On the Men's side, they had a nice last second victory last night against Venezuela. Their next match is Wednesday against Panama.

they got lucky that they had enough time to score it at the end. they shoulda had 5 goals in that game. They dominated venezuela

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, has been sentenced to 6 months in prison for tax evasion.

I don't know if that sentence begins immediately. With soccer being a 9 month season, he'll be missing matches regardless of when he begins serving.

Tottenham are having a really good season so far, it'll be interesting to see if their momentum continues without Redknapp.

The EPL has games on live all the time. you just gotta get up a bit early on weekends or be home at 3pm on week days.

I decided to jump heavy into soccer a few years ago after i checked it out for a few weeks with EPL and really liked it. I didnt want to start rooting for one of the big teams off the bat, it felt kinda cheap. Everton had Tim Howard and was rumored to be interested in donovan(the first loan) on loan so i decided to pick them. Im really glad i did too cause im in full now. I fuckin live and die with them like all my other teams.

And they actually get a decent amount of US air time cause they have howard and donovan for short spells. Any other games i can usually find online.

I really am into the league as a whole now though, so i watch pretty much any game thats on tv. Im so glad i got into it

my work schedule kinda sucks as far as live games go. i know they replay a ton of Arsenal games on YES. Also have Fox Soccer which plays alot of La Liga, and Italian League. I want to jump into EPL but im a little lost on the inner workings of the league itself. (loans, transfers, who graduates to the UEFA, etc.)

loans and transfers work the same for all european leagues, so if you know it for italy and spain, it works the same way.

EPL has 20 teams. bottom 3 get relegated. top 2 from championship come up and 3-6 have a playoff for the 3rd spot.

Top 3 teams advance to UEFA group stage, 4th place goes to qualifier. if they win they make group, if they lose they bounce to Europa league. 5th and 6th also get europa and usually the 7th too unless a team gets it on fair play.

Games generally are on live saturdays at 745 and 10 am and then 1230 and sundays at 11am, and then occasionally they have tuesday and wednesday games live at 245 or 3pm.

top to bottom its the most talented league in the world. Its also alot faster paced than the spanish league. You will love it. and just remember 1 thing

FUCK LIVERPOOL

the problem i had witht he first penalty is they were runnin, the chelsea guy put his foot out toward the ball, and teh united player moved his foot across the chelsea guys path, also goin for the ball, and their feet tangled. To me, half asleep mind you, it looked like the Man U guy actually initiated their feet tangling and it shoulda just been no call.

but i agree, the 2nd one was way worse of a call. it was nothing at all. even my girlfriend was like WOW thats some bullshit the second that it happened. And she was half asleep too

Ive seen la liga games but not familiar with the transfers/loans. I know theres a window of some sort. And im guessing theres no kind of free agency for players? Like how we have in our sports? All i know is when someone transfers (guessing its like a trade) there is always some big fuckin number attached to it to get said player.

Its just kind of confusing to someone thats only familiar with american sports.

Also, what is considered the EPL season? From when to when? (ie MLB april-oct). I remember the UEFA having games in december then the next round is in feb. Thats really all the shit im trying to familiarize myself with.

there is FA for players if the contract expires but teams dont let that happen with valuable players, they will just sell them first.

basically, this is it:

july and august and january are the transfer windows. You can buy a guy from a team for a negotiated fee, then sign him to a contract, much like the japanese baseball players. except its not bids, its negotiation for the fees. Then thats your player

Or you can take a guy on loan, which basically you just pay his salary for the time you have him, and he plays for you for a preset amount of time. then he goes back to his original team. Its generally for teams to loan guys who arent ready to play for them yet to a lower level or just worse team, so they get to play and gain experience and then come back to you ready to play.

mid august to end of may. there is no winter break. 38 games for the league per year. uefa is a comp that runs along with the league, thats why games are midweek. champs league uses a similar format to the WC

the "big four" in terms of money and popularity are Man U, Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool. Tottenham has been hanging around basically as number 5 for the last year or 2. Man City is now right up there with the others cause of money but thats really only been the last year and a half. They are a fun bunch but its hard to advocate rooting for a team who spent 600 million on players in 4 years and still hasnt won a championship

I chose Everton mostly cause the americans, but also cause Newcastle was in the 2nd level at the time i jumped in. But i always kinda liked newcastle, so now i have no ill will there. they are pretty decent and a bunch of loonies, so thats not a bad spot to go. otherwise, check out the rosters. maybe you wills ee some guys you know and like from international comps and get to choose a team that way.

Also, Clint Dempsey plays for Fulham

its below it. Europa league takes all the teams that just missed the champs league or were eliminated from champs league in group play. Also, if Cardiff had managed to win this match, which they wont now cause Dirk Kyut is an asshole, that would have qualified them for the Europa League.

Since Liverpool would most likely qualify for it through the league, the spot for liverpool winning will go to the best finisher in the EPL who didnt already qualify.

i was reading that the big clubs basically use it to let their young players gain big game experience. Basically sending out their B team. Thus letting lower level clubs knock off the giant teams. so i think EPL midlevel teams are the ones that usually win this particular cup.

this is the hardest part of what i was saying weeks ago, trying to get a grasp on who is what and how the league is decided.

i really wish they had a sports package where u can watch all EPL games.

After getting into it if, i ever find myself in Europe, i think its a must to see a game live.

they do have an epl thing you can get online where you can watch all the games.

And yea, in the earlier parts of the carling cup, most big clubs do send out somewhat limited lineups. the cup only pays 100K pounds to the winner, so its not a big deal like the FA cup. But the FA cup has WAYYYYYY more teams in it. something like 500 compared to the 92 or whatever they have in the carling cup. once you get to the semi and the final of the carling cup, even the big clubs start to take it more serious. Liverpool put out its full EPL lineup today and still shoulda lost.

BUT CARDIFF ARE FUCKIN BUMS

A lot of the empty seats are security measures. They typically will open certain sections for either fan base, but have several empty sections in between. Believe it or not, hooliganism in association football is much worse than what we can comprehend. Especially in the case of the Champions League, where racism can really accelerate violence.

For the most part, EPL and FA Cup competitions are pretty civilized, but even then they cordon off the visiting teams fans with blankets of security.

ironically they are both for similar reason. Cech has a plate in his head cause someone kicked him in his early years, so the FA told him he has to wear it or he wont be insured. Olerud also had a plate in his head i believe, but it was non baseball related, and they didnt seem to give a shit if he died or not

I wouldn't say Cech's injury happened in his early years, it was in 2006. He took a knee to the head as he was attempting to stop a shot on goal. He ended up with a fractured skull and was out for about 3 months.

I remember watching that match live. It was the first year I started following the Premier League and adopted Chelsea as my team to support.

At some point I think fulham would let him go on loan and I'm not sure of the contract but I'm sure they get a lot of USA money for him being on team so I think they'd try to keep him

And the wolves are In the bottom 3 and wuld be relegated out of the premier league so it wuld be harder to keep following them But they're only a point out of avoiding the relegation

pm Sky News have reported that Muamba had CPR on the field. The ESPN tunnel reporter says that many of the players have tears in their eyes, and that Muamba wasn't breathing when he was stretchered off the field.

6.27pm ESPN have confirmed that nobody was near Muamba when he collapsed. It doesn't matter, of course, but I'd say there's no chance this game will continue.

6.24pm On FiveLive, Ian Dennis has reported that Fabrice Muamba is fighting for his life.

6.22pm I didn't see what happened with Muamba; apparently he collapsed with nobody near him.

6.21pm ESPN have confirmed that Howard Webb has not officially abandoned the game; he is taking further advice and, presumably, waiting to see what happens with Fabrice Muamba. The ground is completely silent.

45+4 min Howard Webb has called the game off, at least for the time being. It's the only decision he could make.

45+3 min Muamba is now on a stretcher, and is being carried off. This does not mean he has been resuscitated; apparently they are still attempting to do that. The Bolton chairman Phil Gartside is down at the pitchside, talking to Howard Webb and Owen Coyle. How can you carry on a game after this?

45+2 min Attempts to resuscitate Muamba are still ongoing, and apparently a defibrilator has been used. This is just horrible.

45+1 min After a brief chant of Fabrice Muamba's name, the crowd falls silent. Nigel Reo Coker is on his knees, resting his chin on his fist.

44 min There's a woman crying in the crowd. This is horrific. The whole crowd is completely silent, and medical staff from both teams are gathered round Muamba. ESPN's cameras are not even showing the players anymore. Howard Webb has both his hands clasped together; he looks in significant distress.

42 min Fabrice Muamba has suffered a very nasty injury. I'm not sure precisely what happened, but you can tell from the grave tone of the ESPN commentator Jon Champion – and the body language of the players – that this is extremely serious. Rafael Van der Vaart has his hands over his face, and ESPN's Jon Champion says that there are attemps to resuscitate Muamba. This is awful. All the players are in complete shock.

torress doesnt start because he is a bum. i know he has 4 goals last 2 games but he was TERRIBLE before that and Didier Drogba, even at an advanced age, is still one of the better strikers in the world.

And Chicharito is weird. he scored alot of goals last year, but he doesnt look that good to me. Alot of his goals are with his head, which he is good with, or poachers goals that are more set up by rooney, nani, valencia and others. Also, it has alot to do with the fact Danny Welbeck is a better player and a more physical presence. Also, i have never seen a game where Chicharito wasnt called for offsides at least 5 times

i hope Bayern Munich destroys Chelsea...that being said, i think its time to remove the interim tag from DiMatteo.

i agree, and i think they should have already extended him. However, if Bayern does crush Chelsea in the final, i would go ahead and bet that DiMatteo gets fired. I know its insane. i think he has done enough that if chelsea lose a tough game he still stays.

But Abromovich is fuckin insane. And his only dream, his only wish, is to win the Champions League. If they win, DiMatteo will get 5 years contract. If they lose close, id say 2 or 3. If they lose like 4-1 or something, i think he is gone and Pep Guardiola is in.

The biggest saving grace is that Mourhino will not be leaving Real Madrid. I dont think the owner would let him go for any money, and Abromovich knows he fucked up firing him and wants him back. Since he cant have him, i think DiMatteo is safe.

I also think Chelsea wont get blown out. They will fight and claw and at least keep it close.

world cup is a big reason people DONT get into soccer more. Those teams are thrown together with so little time to train that sometimes it ends up boring with no fuckin goals and people bitch all the time.

They dont realize that the pro clubs, who are together all the time, actually play much better, much more exciting soccer.

Soccer fans are the best. The place is packed, the chants/songs, the announcer having the fan's chant "MULLER!" was great. You don't see this in American sports.

Sulda been like 6-2 but I'll take it

At most I culd hope for is a tie or win with Portugal and likely losses against Netherlands and Germany maybe a sneaky draw so this is just gravy

in fairness. they were offside in the build up to that goal, as well as the missed header a couple minutes earlier. The ball was over the line, but it was kind of a cosmic justice after the missed offsides

Terry, Cahill, Cole, Lampard, Essien, Ramirez, Malouda, Luiz.

Obviously a friendly, but I know they usually lose these games and it's a good result nonetheless. I didn't catch all of it but from what I saw, it was actually pretty engaging soccer.

that deal is official? if they fuckin got it done for 20 mill pounds like the report i read the other day said, ill go fuckin ape shit. Esp after United tried to tell everton last year that it would be at least 25 mill for Danny Welbeck. What? they wanted 20 mill and jack rodwell for him.

But van persie would be worth 20?

And what the fuck would united do with him? Him and rooney, but you have welbeck, chicharito, at some point you would have to sell a dude. Maybe they wont ask as much for Welbeck now

I think it was for 40 million. Piers Morgan is not happy, being a huge Arsenal supporter that his is. His twitter feed has been great to see his reaction. And look! Arsenal are the first game ESPN will be playing this weekend as the EPL season kicks off!

if you got 40 mill from espn or other american site, thats about 25 mill in pounds. prob even less by now with our shitty dollar.

i was using the terms in pounds. If it was, in fact, 40 mill pounds, well then i feel better about it, i guess, only from the standpoint of at least they had to drop some cash. But its still less than fuckin Fernando Torres. So its still a goddamn steal

it makes me laugh that it was ultimately howard stuffing the shit out of stupid chicharito and gettin a deflection on a chicharito shot, since they happen to be playin each other on Monday with Everton and Man U. And I hope it ends up the exact same fuckin way
