As newport said, its a lesser tourney, and also, most of the guys who play in europe had to get a few weeks off and then report to training for their upcoming pro seasons, so they werent available. If you look, mexico was the same. No Chicharito, no Dos Santos, etc. This tourney is basically for backups to show what they can do. Thats why all these countries like honduras and panama are competitive, cause its their best team vs everyones backups

I guess, long term, anything that gets high-quality soccer out there is good for soccer in the US, and maybe seeing these games instead of the comparatively mediocre soccer they play in the MLS might a good thing too, but at some point MLS has to become, as it were, a premiere league of its own.

(There were 2 specials on, the second being a more serious look at the upcoming season) I tuned in halfway thru the first show. It just seemed like NBC execs may have gone into panic mode that no one will watch.

Also didnt know Altidore came to England. Dropped Agbonlahor for him in fantasy.

I dont think it will ever be on that level. I think its just as good as any other feeder league. While getting guys on the downside to come play here.

Geographically i think its impossible to compete with Europe. Just the way the leagues are run and their proximity to each other to be able to have Champions League and Euros. Meanwhile we're stuck here sandwiched between stupid Canada and Mexico.

the funny part is, soccer always had more kids playing than football and baseball did. I mean little kids, under 10. Its been that way for like 40 or 50 years now. the problem was, since we really didnt give a shit, we didnt really have any league or any way for people to make a living playing soccer. So once our best athletes got to HS, they decided to focus on football or basketball, some sport where they had a shot to make big money. Chad Johnson even said once, he loved soccer more than football, but at the time there was no career in soccer.

Now that we have a league that, although most guys make shit, if you are good you get paid well. And now we are having guys having big money successes in europe and south america, plus alot of those big worldwide clubs are putting academies here and finding our best guys and signing them young. Though it doesnt necessarily help the MLS, that kind of thing is HUGE for US Soccer. Now, a good number of those great athletes will stick with soccer in HS, or leave to go play in a better league and we will have a huge talent pool to draw from. Then, its over for the rest of the world. And they, even though they are the ones kinda pushing it along, are TERRIFIED of the US getting better than them

Btw, this happens because we dont do TV the way the world does. Here, the TV channels sign deals with the league or the team to show games. In Soccer, they sign deals with the country to show games hosted in that country when it comes to international teams. (pro leagues work more similar to our leagues, accept the league sells rights as a whole for all the teams in the league and then splits up the money)
So BeIn actually signed a deal to carry all games played in costa rica (and most of the countries in Central Am and Carrib) and thats why the game isnt on. If it was same teams but played on US Soil it would be on either ESPN or Fox

i got fifa, too. It seems alot harder but its pretty cool.

GTA is sick, but if you dont play the game it kinda loses its appeal pretty quickly. if you play through the missions, however, it ends up being basically a 20-30 hour movie that shits all over any movie you will ever see.

I definately recommend 5 but only if you are gonna play it. Also, they put in a new feature for people like you where, if you fail a section of a mission 3 times in a row, it lets you just skip to the next section so you can get through the story, even if you arent good enough to get through the missions. And some of the missions are fuckin NUTS

I was tryin to reserve judgement on Martinez. I worried that he was a little too set in his ways, to the point where he would keep at it even times it wasnt working. He seemed almost like a rookie in the mistakes he would make. Well he won me over today

First off, he seems to have an incredible sense when to get someone off who isnt playing well. He doesnt wait and worry about upsetting a player, if you suck first half, you are off at halftime, period. I like that. Also, today for the first time, his style really wasnt getting done, and Villa were actually all over Everton to start the second half. Then he brought in Osman for Barkley and went to a more half his style half english airballs and crosses over the top style and the combo unlocked everything. The last 30 min were all Everton and they are cruisin into 3 more points. I really think Martinez is going to be a great manager and Im so glad Everton has him and not that bum, Moyes

yea awesome. and Everton might have some help 2nd half of the year, not having to play euro games midweek for half the season could keep guys more fresh.

And you see alot of through the legs shit in soccer, just usually its forced through a guys legs on a pass or something. It was such a subtle little fake and then just let the ball roll through while the defender is completely lost. And being all the traffic around, just fuckin impressive to even think of it that quick

I was stuck at work so i couldnt watch. But Liverpools whole scheme leaves the back line completely wide open for a counter. It'll be tough trying to keep up with high scoring teams.
