Chan Ho Park was pulled after 3 innings today so that he can pitch on Monday.
I guess Pelfrey's our #5. Congrats to Willie and Rick for doing the right thing.
Now let's get Milledge in right instead of Green and I'll be impressed with this team.

Agreed. Pelfry may start in the minors because they don't need a fifth until the 15th so that's fine. They can carry Milledge as an extra and see what he does. And I hope he shines and they cut Green.

It just sucks that Green is the one who's gotta go instead of Alou. If Milledge succeeds Green the lineup loses a lefty. At least Green's shown a bit of power. I know it's only spring but Alou has sucked royally.

Pelfrey named 5th starter. (http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20070325&content_id=1859150&vkey=spt2007news&fext=.jsp&c_id=nym)
It's official. But like you said, Boondock, they'll probably keep em down 'til the 15th to carry an extra bat.
And Milledge should be fine. Just a contusion on his pinky.
Just over 6 days!

Good point. Should we have kept Cliffy then for the left handed bat?

I would love if the outfield started with Beltran, Alou, Milledge, Chavez and Green. And then when Pelfry comes up Green gets traded. Even just on defense Milledge has looked a lot better than he did last year and Green looks old and slow. Beltran is going to have to cover part of left field with Alou out there so I'd rather have some young legs in right to help him out. Green hit .277 15hr 66rbi last year. I'm pretty sure Milledge could equal that.

Minaya: Sanchez Out Until August
Adam Rubin reports that Duaner Sanchez is headed for a second surgery on his surgically repaired right shoulder, a source told the Daily News. The Mets have yet to announce the procedure. Sanchez heard a pop while throwing on the mound Thursday for the first time since Aug. 1 surgery to repair a separated shoulder.
UPDATE: Omar Minaya confirmed that Sanchez has a hairline fracture in his shoulder that will require surgery and keep Sanchez out until August.
The Mets optioned Jorge Sosa to Triple-A New Orleans.
Definitely a huge blow for the Mets.

Carlos Zambrano a Met In '08?
Ah, Big Z, always good for a quote. SI.com's John Donovan got Carlos Zambrano talking yesterday and has an interesting column up.
Donovan describes a fan yelling "See you next year with the Yankees" to Zambrano, to which he pointed and smiled. Later asked about the Yankees, Zambrano said he didn't see it because they have "too many rules." He seems to want to remain in the NL because of his love for hitting, and mentioned the Mets. Of course, for the right price, I'm sure the Yankees could lure him to the AL. Maybe they'd let him pinch-hit once in a while. Also, Paul Sullivan's source said Zambrano wouldn't mind playing for Ozzie Guillen and the White Sox after this year.
Zambrano's next pact could approach a $16MM AAV. Donovan seems to believe he'd exceed seven years on the open market, though the Cubs and Zambrano are set at five seasons. It's unclear whether those five seasons would include 2007.
Donovan writes that the Cubs and Zambrano are making progress on a deal for five years worth around $75-78MM. And last Sunday, BP's John Perrotto said to look for Z to sign a deal in the $80-90MM range this week.
I think the Cubs will retain their ace; they've got about six days left to hammer it out. Jay Mariotti feels that a lack of a Zambrano contract would be a counterproductive distraction, yet that Zambrano would win a Cy Young. I see.

I would think Feliciano would be the Lefty-specialist, and Smith the Righty-specialist. Shoenweisse seems more apt for a setup role because of his slider.

I think it will be a combination of the three. I was going to mention Showeinwisenhosen but I was too lazy to look up how to spell his name. And if they could ever get Juan Padilla back that would help. And if Pedro comes back then maybe El Duque ends up in the bullpen depending how the young guys are doing.

The best thing for this team is that come late July/August they'll have the cavalry roll in. Pedro, Padilla, Mota, Sanchez , plus any deadline moves they might make.

With six days left to reach a contract extension before Opening Day, Carlos Zambrano is discussing the possibility of wearing a New York Mets uniform next year.
Asked by SI.com if he'd consider the New York Yankees, Zambrano said: "I like the Yankees, but I don't see myself pitching at Yankee Stadium. Too many rules. If I play in New York, it's going to be with the Mets. First of all, because I get to hit. And I love hitting.

Then take your t.v. and flush it!!!!!!1 Just kidding. I'm not saying that he should be there everyday but it's for a couple of innings every few weeks. And he always knows what's going on with the team. It's obvious that he watches them. I think part of the problem may be the speech impediment he has now due to the Bell's Palsy.

I agree with Boondock. He's very difficult to listen to now, but I love him. I really enjoy his inning or two on Friday nights. I'm a huge baseball fan, and if I could have dinner with two people in the world it would be Ralph Kiner and Tommy Lasorda.
And believe me, don't feel bad for him. If I know old people, he loves doing it. He adores people listening to what he has to say.

I agree ... as long as it's limited, I love hearing his take on things. I'd actually take him over Keith Hernandez anyday, even with the palsy (or whatever is helping cause this). I will be writing a letter to SNY every time I have to listen to Keith Hernandez. I am not a letter writitng guy, but I have to mute my TV when he's on.

Good team. I'd rather see a promising rookie instead of those two, but thats a minor (pardon the pun) quibble.
The bullpen would look so much better with a healthy Sanchez, and I don't think you can really count on that this year with his injury history and with the way he came into camp so out of shape.

Sele's the long man.
Green's gotta be on the roster. It sucks but with Milledge on the squad, at least temporarily, he'll get the opportunity for at-bats. I'm assuming because of their very different springs, Milledge has earned at least platoon status. Problem is the Cardinals don't have a damn lefty in the rotation.

Pedro Martinez, Tom Glavine, Steve Trachsel, Victor Zambrano and Brian Bannister
With Jose Lima, Alay Soler and Dave Williams getting a good amount of starts
2007 Opening Day Starters
Tom Glavine, El Duque, John Maine, Oliver Perez and Mike Pelfrey
with Chan H0 Park and Aaron Sele waiting. Not to mention Pedro after the All-Star break.
You can't tell me the 2007 starters aren't better than what they started with in 2006. The rotation will be fine
Seriosly Everyone is worrying a lot for nothing I think!

Wow, what a dominating game. Maine was the guy in this rotation that I had the least confidence in. He got away last year by throwing only fastballs because he was unknown. I was sure he'd get hammered once the league came around a second time. But damn! He kept the fastballs low, painted the corners and threw in a rather nasty slider at times. It looked like he was trying a curve ball a few times but couldn't get it to break. If so, I'm surprised he went with that instead of a change-up. Seems to be the trend these days.
All in all a great series. Everybody broke out today. On to Atlanta.

Not only are the Mets 4-0, the starters are 4-0.
?Silly question, but why didn't Milledge start last night against the lefty> Willie's had two weeks to give this kid the opportunity to outplay Shawn Green and he's already wasted one. Granted Milledge has almost surpassed Green just by sitting on the bench, but still I really wanted to see him in right field last night. Did he just get the temp roster spot as a reward for his great spring, with no chance of getting in the lineup?

Nice come back victory today against The Team to Beat.
Well, congrats on game one...that's a Charlie Manuel loss.
Geary looked awful in the 7th...he was lucky to get out by Victorino's amazing catch. So Charlie lets him bat and then pitch the 8th? Stupid, stupid decision.

was at the game today.. friggin awesome... after Rollins booted the ball, the Jim-My Rol-Lins chants started... he was tortured all game.... going to be a great rivalry this season. Willie almost blew this one, but he got away with it

I watched some of the Post Game...Rollins basically said he expected to get booed before he made his comments, so it made no difference to him...he also said he stands by what he said.
I'm all for the confidence, Jimmy...but let's get a couple wins.
