Well, Mets fans can take it easy...you've got 13 left against the Nationals and Marlins, so it'd take a pretty monumental collapse for them to not make the playoffs.

And let's face it...the National League is a joke more so this season then it was last season. So they're still in solid shape.

You guys just better pray really hard that the Phillies don't some how stumble their way into the Wild Card. On the off chance that happens, then you should worry.

why ???

even if the phils make the wild card we wont face them do theyd have to face either the nl central or nl west winner who ever has the better record and then beat them and the mets would have to win their series just to see the phils in the nlcs

Meet the Mets, beat the Mets, step right up and defeat the Mets. Bring your kiddies bring your wife, watching them blow a big division lead, you will have the time of your life.. Because when Billy Wagner is in the other team is really socking the ball, hitting it right out over the wall..

Do the Mets bring back Alou for another year? I know he gets hurt a lot but when he's healthy all he does is hit. Gomez will only be 22 and you could probably get him some decent time when Alou is on the DL or if they trade Milledge.

I think they gotta bring him back. The offense seems to click when he's in the lineup.

I totally say bring back Alou. You never know what sort of instances can happen as this injury filled year has proven. Gomez will need a few years of seasoning and platooning. And Milledge, in spite of a large ego, is a pretty good ballplayer, and with a little settling down could be a great player down the road. So the short term plan:

1. Keep Alou for next year.
2. In two years use those two kids fulltime.

Damn how do you come back from that one?

Thanks for giving back the game we gave you last night.

Back to 1.5....9 to go.

Very interesting, indeed.

By the way...not to alarm anyone...but the Braves have crept back to 4.5.

At the rate the Mets are losing games, and the fact that the Braves have three with the Phils left on the schedule...it's not out of the realm of possibility.

hey the cards werent playing that great last year and almost missed the playoffs but barely crept in and won it all

so anythings possible

and the mets have one game left against the marlins tommorrow, 3 against wash at home, a make up game vs the eliminated cards at home, and 3 more vs the marlins at home

phils have 2 games left against the nats(tonight and tommorrow), 3 at home vs atlanta who still has a shot especially if they sweep the phils, and then 3 more against the nats at home

im just glad as hell theres no more reg season games vs the phils b/c we'd almost surely give up the division lead if we did

K.C.

I'll tell you right now, having watched the Cardinals play the Phillies just last week, that they're a dead team.

They should have won two of three because the Phillies didn't play particularly great ball in that series, but their veterans have pretty much packed it in, and LaRussa's playing his scrub team.

Now, LaRussa, of course, is still managing like he's in the playoff hunt making some crazy moves to win games. But the talent just isn't there.

That said, the Mets propensity to beat themselves lately could make it interesting. But that's the only way I see them dropping that game, is if they completely beat themselves.

2 with six to play should be a pretty safe lead. The Phillies have a tough week ahead where they face both Smoltz and Hudson with an Atlanta team still playing for something. It'd be tough for them to go better than 4-2. So if the Mets go 3-3, they should be set.

BTW-Whats worse, the Yankee collapse to the hated Bosox in 04 ALCS or the Mets is they don't even make the playoffs after being in 1st place all year? Both would be historic. Close call.

I didn't even think of that. It does sting a little less if the team that beat you at least gets to or wins the WS.

In both cases it's a hated rival that beats you out, so thats a wash. The Yanks did it in the ALCS, which is a way bigger stage (national audience) but at least they got there. But they lost a series after getting a 3-0 series lead, and that will be remembered forever.

The Mets would be doing something on par with the 64 Phillies, who everyone still remembers and compares last season collapses against. So I guess both would be remembered forever. Plus Met fans spent all summer thinking they were in and the Yanks were out, so that would make the post season unwatchable.

Too close to call. Both are brutal in their own ways.

"Bottom line, we're the team to beat," the shortstop said. "I can't put it any other way."

"If [the Mets] needed motivation to play this game," Rollins said, "then they are playing the wrong game. They had a chance last year to go to the World Series. They made it to the playoffs.

"They won a division. Congratulations, but last year is over.

"They can take it any way they want; I'm just merely stating the facts."

Its disheartening to the fans cause the players are playing with NO zeal. It is like they dont care. Reyes looks like shit lately. The only three guys that seem to want to perform are Alou, Wright, and Beltran. Everyone else is preparing for the offseason. This team has no fire. And that is why it is easy for us fans to get down on. Pedro o=put in a performance that was winnable, but they just let it go. I am going to the game Saturday, but I already feel like Phillie wants it, and the Mets dont. And that is the part that hurts. When someone gives up, they dont fight.

I just wanted to post my favorite article EVER

It's Not Official But the NL East Race Is Over
by Kevin Kernan

August 26, 2007 -- MEMO to Jimmy Rollins: The best team won.
Yes, it's still the dog days of August and the Mets have to travel to beautiful Philadelphia tomorrow, but the NL East race is over. Though the Yankees are fighting for their playoff souls, the Mets are merrily on their way to another October.

This really wasn't much of a race. Despite all the Mets problems, despite the fact they left the door wide open in the division, the Phillies and Braves have not been able to step through the portal.

So at 6:47 last night when Aaron Heilman got Luis Gonzalez to bounce into a 1-6-3 double play to give the Mets a 4-3 win over the Dodgers at sweaty Shea Stadium, the NL East race came to a close. Sure, there are magic numbers ahead and the official champagne clinching, but the Mets have no worries until October.

Even Carlos Delgado got into the act, banging a two-out, two-run-single in the fifth after Grady Little intentionally walked Jeff Conine to get to Delgado.

Though he's been frustrated by his season-long slump, Delgado said there was never any reason for him to start throwing bats or helmets, "and the fact you have a six-game lead helps," he said.

It sure does. The Mets know where they sit.

As soon as Delgado made his statement, the first baseman was reminded the Mets lead was 6 ½ games (the Braves and Phillies played last night).

"But who's counting," he said with a smile, later adding there is still a long way to go.

No there isn't. The Mets biggest challenge is to stay interested in the final five weeks of the season and to have the eye of the tiger when they get to the postseason.

Orlando Hernandez continued his magic and was brilliant for six innings before allowing back-to-back home runs in the seventh. The Mets are 9-0 in El Duque's last nine starts.

On this day the Mets didn't even have to use closer Billy Wagner, who has been used too much of late and told the team he needed a rest and to let Heilman finish the job.

Jose Reyes stole his 70th base after a leadoff single in the third, and David Wright knocked him in to put the Mets on top, 1-0. Reyes became only the second major leaguer since 2000 to notch 70 steals. Scott Podsednik stole 70 in 2004. At this rate, Reyes is likely to have the most steals since 1988 when Man of Steal Rickey Henderson swiped 93 bases for the Yankees.

Conine knocked in the Mets final run on a double to left that scored Wright in the seventh. Wright owns a ridiculous .790 on-base percentage over his last 19 plate appearances. The Mets simply have more weapons than anyone else in the East.

What the Mets were missing was a resolve to win at home. Tom Glavine, who was with the Braves when they used to be automatic division winners, noted that has changed. The Mets know they are good, even though they haven't always played like the best team.

The players will not admit that the race is over, but the Mets are confident in their abilities and have been from Day 1.

"We have the talent to win," Glavine said. "When you come off a year like we had last year and you have as much or more talent in the room the following year, you just look around and see a team that you think is a good team and a team that can win, regardless of what everybody else is doing or what other people think."

The Mets didn't think this would be a runaway like last year.

"We knew that our division was going to be tougher this year because the other two teams that we beat last year struggled, and you knew they were not going to do that again," Glavine said.

Wagner agreed.

"We just have to continue to play."

"We're in a great position," Glavine said. "All we have to do is take care of business and win our games and it doesn't matter what anybody else does."

Considering the talent disparity in the division, it never really mattered.

Hey KC!
Still 2 more games to go! let's not jinx this. It can still fall apart for the Phillies. Obviously I hope it doesn't, and the last thing we need is this kind of thing to black-cat them.
The fact that Adam Eaton is pitching today does not sit well with me. He has been shaky, to say the least, in his last few starts. So all it would take would be for him to blow it for us and kill all the momentum we've been building. and then the mets could win, although they seem mentally out of it now. still, they could do it so may I ask you to remove this article until all has been determined?
thanks!

I watch on Gameday on MLB.com. They have a batter and show you each pitch and whether or not its a ball, strike or in play.

Me too when I'm paying attention, but if not, or I'm watching a lot of games, I just open up the full scores page. If something is heating up somewhere, I can open up that gameday or run to my DTV and put any game on. I have a system that is flawless my son, for all sports.

Sometimes I have two tvs (NFL mainly) with multiple tuners on four plus game which all have tivo and high def. I can then line up local games on radio and whatever I need on nfl.com with scoring update on the Red Zone Channel (HD too).
