That is from a conservative. And I've seen TONS of articles from conservatives just bashing McCain on this pick, and the way he is running the campaign in general.
The leaks we're reading about are probably aimed at setting the bar low in anticipation of the debate. All she has to do is keep her head above water and seem reasonably capable and the critics will be satisfied for a time. After all, she's only the VP candidate, so unless she doesn horrendously bad, it probably won't be a drag on the ticket. If she can do that, she then MUST make herself available for press conferences and town halls. The failures of the Couric interview are partly her fault, but mostly the campaign's fault. If she can't articulate McCain's history of regulation, that's because the campaign has not adequately prepared her. Still, the bar is pretty low going into this debate.

The blogs I've seen aren't critical of the pick itself, but there is frustration with the mediocrity of her performance thus far. If you want to blame the pick, I would remind you that the base would've stayed home for everyone else he could've picked other than Jindal. And it was during the convention hurricane that we saw what an amazing choice Jindal could've been.

So, on Friday, John McCain attempted to use Obama's comments about how he'd attack targets within Pakistan as a sign of his dangerous naivete on foreign policy, saying "You just don't say that."

So Sarah Palin is making a campaign stop on Saturday, and, well, let's let the AP take it from here.

But on Saturday, Palin said much the same thing to a customer at a Philadelphia restaurant, with the press nearby.

"If that's what we have to do stop the terrorists from coming any further in, absolutely, we should," Palin said in the exchange, which was captured on video and reported by CBS News.

McCain ripped her, obviously, didn't he? After all, it's dangerous to discuss what you might or might not do militarily, isn't it? Well, not quite.

"She was in a conversation with some young man," McCain said during his own interview Sunday on ABC's "This Week." "She understands and has stated repeatedly that we're not going to do anything except in America's national security interest and we are not going to, quote, announce it ahead of time."

McCain said Palin's exchange was not an official policy statement.

"I don't think most Americans think that that's a definitive policy statement made by Governor Palin," McCain said.

Sounds kind of like a "definitive policy statement" to me, John.

Did she even watch the debate? Or did it confuse her so she flipped over to Lifetime?

Talk about your liberal media...

I just read a thread that had Sarah Palin in a swimsuit (video!!) walking around looking all 1980s hot and she was just about to get my vote when.....

a mod locked the thread (not merged it, locked it) saying that video was already in a thread about Palin ( I guessed it was this one, he provided no link!)

I've already gone 4 pages back, and I dont see it.

Seems like someone's afraid to show the world how hot our potential future VP is.

I'd like this to be all over the news, so that Tina Fey can reeeeally get that impression down pat.

i don't understand why the original thread had to be locked at all. If people want to discuss it, I think most people would rather just talk in a new thread then go back a few days in a thread that has thousands of posts. Leaving that thread unlocked will only just create more discussions/posts on this site for people who don't like to read long threads that go on forever

anyone hear anything about this

Of concern to McCain's campaign, however, is a remaining and still-undisclosed clip from Palin's interview with Couric last week that has the political world buzzing.

The Palin aide, after first noting how "infuriating" it was for CBS to purportedly leak word about the gaffe, revealed that it came in response to a question about Supreme Court decisions.

After noting Roe vs. Wade, Palin was apparently unable to discuss any major court cases.

There was no verbal fumbling with this particular question as there was with some others, the aide said, but rather silence.

im able to name "Brown v. Board of Education" so there, i can name 2! I'm smarter than Palin

Andrew Sullivan is quoting Howie Kurtz on the story. I wouldn't be surprised if this is completely true as Palin seems to be bad enough to do that.

Edit: Apparently CBS is running additional material on Tuesday & Wednesday which could include those two answers as well as a whole new sitdown. Popcorn time!

From The Onion -

Palin Brushing Up On Foreign Policy At Epcot

ORLANDO, FL—Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin sought to silence those who have criticized her lack of foreign affairs experience Tuesday by announcing plans for a weeklong, 10-nation tour of Walt Disney World's Epcot.

According to Palin, the trip—her first past Frontierland—will include speaking engagements at Norway's famous Viking ride, sausages at Germany's Kaufhaus, and, time permitting, a fact-finding mission to Future World.

"This ambitious trip should finally demonstrate that I am ready to assume the vice presidency, whether by standing in long lines at Morocco's Tangierine Café or by sitting down face-to-face with Mexico's Three Caballeros," Palin announced during a campaign stop outside a Chinese restaurant in Tulsa, OK. "All of our neighbors deserve good diplomacy, from the Universe of Energy down to the French pavilion."

Palin also promised a visit to the American Adventure exhibit before returning home, adding that she hoped to learn more about her own nation and the diverse peoples within.

The Disasta from Alaska strikes again!

It's worse in text:

COURIC: What other Supreme Court decisions [than Roe v. Wade] do you disagree with?

PALIN: Well, let's see. There's --of course --in the great history of America rulings there have been rulings, that's never going to be absolute consensus by every American. And there are--those issues, again, like Roe v Wade where I believe are best held on a state level and addressed there. So you know--going through the history of America, there would be others but--

COURIC: Can you think of any?

PALIN: Well, I could think of--of any again, that could be best dealt with on a more local level. Maybe I would take issue with. But you know, as mayor, and then as governor and even as a Vice President, if I'm so privileged to serve, wouldn't be in a position of changing those things but in supporting the law of the land as it reads today.

WASHINGTON - When Russian bombers approach American airspace and U.S. Air Force fighters are scrambled, Sarah Palin's phone doesn't ring.

The Alaska governor has no command authority over the guardians of U.S. airspace despite her recent suggestion otherwise.

I see your point, but would like to add:

Palin's bootcamp seems to be about learning EVERYTHING in a couple of weeks, which is an insane proposition. If you've seen her Alaskan debates, she can actually be ok when she has a grasp of the issues. She's not a great debater, but she could be passable in the right situation. Unfortunately for her, she's pretty much in a no-win situation.

If I were in control of Biden's bootcamp, it would be about keeping Joe on message. I'm sure he would love to be the guy to finish off Team McCain, but honestly in this one, he needs to let her open the door rather than to force the issue. He does have a tendency to meander so they need to reign that in and keep him in the right direction.

I think we can all agree that if Joe is patient, she'll hang herself. That would be the best possible outcome...as Palin looks bad and Biden didn't "beat her up" doing it.

jeez... we get it...youre proud to wave a losers flag..jeesh:annoyed:

Did you ever notice that all of the re-enactments are of battles that they won? Never a battle they lost...which is historically hilarious.

Maybe you should offer to re-enact Sherman's march through Atlanta. I'm sure it would add to your popularity! haha.

I think we can all agree that if Joe is patient, she'll hang herself. That would be the best possible outcome...as Palin looks bad and Biden didn't "beat her up" doing it.

yeah thats what he'll do. And everytime i've seen Biden interviewed he has a way of cramming as much info into everything hes saying..which i think would hurt him if he was running for president (because the american people would think hes arrogant or pompous or pretentious or whatever word they use cuz they hate smart people) but it could be very effective against someone who doesn't know shit about anything

I can't wait for this debate tonight but I am worried. Americans don't give a shit about competence, they want someone they could have a beer with or go to a church picnic with. I am worried Biden will try to prove her wrong and incompetent and make people love her even more. My mom is a typical Palin supporter - evangelical, afraid of 'terrorists' which at this point includes Mexicans, and feels the US needs to get back to God. She only loves Palin more when Katie Couric picks on her. My mom and tons of others feel a tribal bond with this woman especially compared to a dark foreigner like Obama Hussain. Of course Biden can beat her in this debate. Palin will say pure bullshit about patriotism, god, blah blah blah and the majority of Americans will love it. Democrats will correctly claim victory tonight based on who had the most logical arguments but there is no way they can win the election. Americans are like scared children that need the comfort of leaders who they can personally identify with. We deserve Palin.

Fortunately I believe that there are less and less people like your mother, willing to stick their heads in the sand and ignore the reality of the world we're living in, and I mean no disrespect to your mother when I say that.

The numbers are showing that the number of independents who feel that Palin isn't up to the job is increasing. And given the current economic climate I just don't think her "aw shucks God is good I'm just plain folks" jive is going to go over. You have to remember: the first Dubya election was pre 9/11, and his jive just BARELY got him over the line, and he needed the Supreme Court to get him there. In 2004, we were still elbows deep in war, and the Administration put out one phony terror alert after another so Dubya rode that to a second term.

People are paying attention this time and I think all the candidates need to have some kind of answer to the questions we face.

Here is what McCain had to say about the debate tonight:

"The fact is she'll do fine tonight. She has experience, talent, leadership. She has great inner strength. She has — an ability to lead that's been proven, taken on her own party," he said. "Joe Biden and Barack Obama have never taken on the leaders of their party on any issue. She's stood up for what's right for the people of Alaska. And she will stand up for what's right for America."

Wow. Did Palin write that? That's some ringing endorsement.

McCain's led the way on scrutinizing military acquisitions

Obama's a novice in military affairs, so even if he wanted to take on Boeing, he couldn't politically because he'd get the hammer from the right. Besides, he's in the pocket of the trade unions that didn't mind taxpayers getting bilked if they got to keep their jobs.

Biden will aggressively go after her ignorance and incompetence and she will respond in a warm, vacuous, endearing down home way and use his momentum to flip him. The thing is that I'd agree if it hadn't been for the Couric interview and other things. She can't pull the "I'm just a hockey mom from Wasilia" gimmick anymore, and that sort of performance would not help her.

I can actually see her blowing it by trying to be a bit too aggressive and policy-wonkish, thus giving Biden the opening to smash her.

That wouldn't be surprising. I saw her RNC speech. Attacking is LITERALLY (choice of words in honor of Joe Biden) the only thing she has done competently since being nominated. She can't properly verbalize her views, McCain's views, what she reads, what she thinks, talking points, policy positions, her past, what she wants to say but she can attack.

Came across this little bit. Yeah she's all about tax reform and helping the middle class, just look at the first duuuuuuuude's deductions. How did this not set off alarm bells at the IRS?

Considering estimates of the value of their property and investments, the Palins appear to be worth at least $1.2 million.

As governor, Palin draws a $125,000 annual salary. Todd Palin's self-employment in 2007 brought him $66,893 in gross receipts from fishing and snowmachine racing, though tax returns released Friday show an overall net income of only $5,874 after deductions. He also earned $43,519 working part-time on the North Slope for BP Exploration.

A former French girlfriend sent me this a couple of weeks ago:

Here is a text written by a very famous French psychoanalyst (Jacques-Alain Miller).

The choice of Sarah Palin is a sign of the times. In politics, the feminine enunciation is hence called to dominate. But be careful! It's no longer about women who play elbows, modeling themselves on the men. We are entering an era of postfeminist women, women who, without bargaining, are ready to kill the political men. The transition was perfectly visible during Hillary's campaign: she began playing the commander in chief and, since that didn't work, what did she do? She sent a subliminal message, one that said something like: "Obama? He's got nothing in the pants." And she immediately took it back, but it was too late. Sarah Palin is not only picking up where she left off but, being younger by fifteen years, she is otherwise ferocious, slinging feminine sarcasm like a natural; she overtly castrates her male adversaries (and with such frank jubilation!) and their only recourse is to remain silent: they have no idea how to attack a woman who uses her femininity to ridicule them and reduce them to impotence. For the moment, a woman who plays the "castration" card is invincible.
In France, we were able to see Ségolène accomplish Operation "Castration" on Fabius and Strauss-Kahn, but, subsequently, she tried to give herself a motherly image and thus she neglected Sarkozy, who was able to paint her as a twit. And thus she joined the ranks of Martine Aubry or Michele Alliot-Marie, the standard models...
What is the precise difference between the women of these two generations? The first ones imitated man, respected the phallus, and performed as if they had one. The second wave knows that the phallus is only a semblance and, furthermore, one not to be taken seriously: it is the de-complexified femininity. A Sarah Palin puts forward no lack: she fears nothing, churns out children all while holding a shotgun, and presents herself as an unstoppable force, "a pitbull with lipstick".
Has Obama already lost? By not choosing Hillary as his partner – in the instances of his spouse, who is quite a pitbull herself – he paved the way for McCain to drive right in. Thanks to Palin, McCain is back in the race. Sarah impassions America, she brings a new Eros to politics. If Obama wins, she has better chances to be his challenger in four years. If it's McCain, Hillary will be his number one adversary. In any case, a new race of political women rise to power.

So Sarah Palin busted out Obama's association with Bill Meyers, former member of the Weathermen, as an example of Obama "pal[ling] around with terrorists who targeted their own country."

But if she's going to play this line, does she really want some of the people her hubby Fez Palin "pals around" with under scrutiny?

As you already know, the group is the Alaska Independence Party, which sees as its ultimate goal seceding from the union. Todd was a member, with a brief exception, from 1995 until 2002, according to the Division of Elections in Alaska.

And though Sarah Palin herself was apparently not a member of this group, there's no doubt that she repeatedly courted this secessionist organization over the years. In 1994, Palin attended the group's annual convention, according to witnesses who spoke to ABC News' Jake Tapper. The McCain campaign has confirmed she visited the group's 2000 convention, and she addressed its convention this year, as an incumbent governor whose oath of office includes upholding the Constitution of the United States.

The founder of the AIP was a man named Joe Vogler. Here's what he had to say in a 1991 interview, only a few years before Palin attended its convention: "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government."

He also said this: "And I won't be buried under their damn flag. I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home."

Vogler has also said: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."

McCain apologists will argue that Sarah Palin was not a member of this group. But Obama wasn't a member of any Ayers anti-American group, either. And again, Palin repeatedly courted the AIP, and her husband was a member for years.

The main takeaway from today's Times story is that Obama's ties to Ayers are, if anything, less substantial than commonly alleged. So if the Ayers association means Obama "palled around" with "terrorists," as Palin put it today, surely Palin can be said to have "palled around" with a secessionist party whose founder openly professed hatred of America.

It's obvious, though, that Palin is out to shore up the "low-information" voter bloc who doesn't know about this, and wouldn't care if they did. She's folksy, you know! Hey, look Bobby, she winked at us!

The Weathermen were active when Obama was 8 years old. The Alaska Independence Party counted Todd Palin as a member until 2002. I'd more likely hold someone responsible for the views of a group they were actively a member of over someone that currently knows a member of a group that committed acts 30 years ago.

I think he is, or at least was at the time. Why would you be a member of a group that has the ultimate goal of secession? You state it is just an ultra-states rights party, but it has the ultimate goal of secession, the ultra-states rights is what they will settle for until they reach their ultimate goal.

Anyone else see Palin as George W. Bush in a skirt and glasses, but with maybe less experience?

It seems to me that much of the appeal she has on those people enamoured with her, is the same sort of appeal that W. had. It's a folksy, plain talking, jingo-speaking (with little detail back up appeal). They both even have an arrogance about them, that they know what is what, and so do the American people, it's just those liberals and media types who don't get it.

Obviously, I don't think highly of her. So let me pose the question in a straight up fashion. Palin obviously appeals to a large portion of people. Isn't the reasons for that appeal similar or not the same as the appeal that Bush had for the same people?

.....

BTW, as a tangent, has anyone else noticed that from 1976 until basically today, all but one of the presidents came in as state governors with the message that they were not part of Washington and would change what "the-inside-the-Beltway set would do? Clinton did it as much as anyone else, but I find it amusing that we virtually hear the same message almost every election, and the American people fall for it.

If you feel that way, then you should agree that the Republican party of today should still be getting the black vote. The AIP has secessionist roots, but has evolved over time, and the mainstream was well beyond realistically seeking secession by the time Todd Palin joined.

Actually, I don't care how blacks vote. Or whites, or Jews, or Asians, or Xtians, or lesbians, or misogynists, etc. I care how I vote. And I care about people being truthful and honest about their actions and thoughts, so I can weigh all the facts and make an informed decision. If Obama was a member of the Weathermen at any time, I would expect him to be honest about his affiliation, and why he was affiliated with them. And he has been honest about knowing Ayers, and how he knows Ayers. He has also stated that he does not agree with the actions the group committed way back when. Why can't Governor Palin and her husband do the same? Talk about why Todd was a member, and why he left.

I'm just pointing out that parties evolve. To say that the AIP hasn't softened their stance on Independence is akin to saying the Republicans are still the party the supports the rights of blacks in the South or better yet, that Pat Buchanan's Reform ticket bore ANY resemblance to Perot in 1992.

Again, why won't Todd talk about it then? Let's face it, Alaska is pretty removed from the rest of the US. Most people didn't even know who Governor Palin was before she was picked. I doubt that many people in the rest of the US have ever heard of the AIP, or it's history, or it's current viewpoint and goals, or why Todd was affiliated with them. I'd bet most people don't even know what goes on in their own state, let alone another state in terms of different parties. Alaskan Independence Party Founder Joe Vogler in 1991:
The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government

Here's audio from the Alaskan Oral History project (should open in popup). (mms://streaming.dcc.uaf.edu/jukebox/YUCH/9118-18.mp3)

If you go to the AIP website (http://www.akip.org/introduction.html) TODAY, this quote is up on the homepage:
"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions."
Joe Vogler

Todd Palin was a member of the party from 1995-2002 (http://tpmmuckraker.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/todd_palin_was_registered_memb.php).

Sarah Palin recorded an address to this group AS A SITTING GOVERNOR:

First the McCain campaign wouldn't let Governor Palin give a real press conference...now the press can't interview those who attend her events. From the Tampa Times (http://blogs.tampabay.com/breakingnews/2008/10/under-the-watch.html):

CLEARWATER -- Constantly under the watchful eyes of security, the media wasn't permitted to wander around inside Coachman Park to talk to Sarah Palin supporters. When reporters tried to leave the designated press area and head toward the bleachers where the crowd was seated, an escort would dart out of nowhere and confront him or her and say, "Can I help you?'' and turn the person around.

When one reporter asked an escort, who would not give her name, why the press wasn't allowed to mingle, she said that in the past, negative things had been written. The campaign wanted to avoid that possibility Monday.

I understand needing to "control" the media story of the day, but this is absolutely gutless by Camp McCain. It's a disdain for the freedom of the press.

Worse, Palin's routine attacks on the media have begun to spill into ugliness. In Clearwater, arriving reporters were greeted with shouts and taunts by the crowd of about 3,000. Palin then went on to blame Katie Couric's questions for her "less-than-successful interview with kinda mainstream media." At that, Palin supporters turned on reporters in the press area, waving thunder sticks and shouting abuse. Others hurled obscenities at a camera crew. One Palin supporter shouted a racial epithet at an African American sound man for a network and told him, "Sit down, boy."

The reception had been better in Clearwater, where Palin, speaking to a sea of "Palin Power" and "Sarahcuda" T-shirts, tried to link Obama to the 1960s Weather Underground. "One of his earliest supporters is a man named Bill Ayers," she said. ("Boooo!" said the crowd.) "And, according to the New York Times, he was a domestic terrorist and part of a group that, quote, 'launched a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and our U.S. Capitol,' " she continued. ("Boooo!" the crowd repeated.)

"Kill him!" proposed one man in the audience.

Martin is so diplomatic:
There is some risk, though, in sending Palin to the Flyers game. Hockey fans, especially in Philly, are not known for their manners. Palin will certainly receive a mix of boos and cheers upon being introduced.

Nope-here's our claim to fame (http://www.nestofdeath.com/press/washTimes.html):

•In 1999, fans jeered Dallas Cowboys receiver Michael Irvin as he lay on the field for 20 minutes, suffering from a neck injury that ended his career.
•That same year, fans threw D batteries at St. Louis Cardinals outfielder J.D. Drew, who held out for a year after the Phillies drafted him and eventually signed with the Cards instead.
•Matthew Scott, the only person in the United States to have received a hand transplant, was asked by the Phillies to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at the team's home opener in 1999. The pitch, from his transplanted hand, dribbled over the plate. The fans booed.
•Eagles fans famously blasted Santa Claus with a shower of snowballs at halftime of a game as St. Nick circled helplessly around the field before stadium officials rescued him.

The place was considered so rough that the city opened up a jail — complete with a court and a judge — inside the stadium after a particularly nasty bout of drunkenness and fighting at a Monday night game between the Eagles and 49ers in 1997.

And that's just the shenanigans at former Veteran's Stadium.

If left up to Hagee, there would be a military strike against Iran today. Since last summer, Hagee has been practically foaming at the mouth for a new war with Iran. Why? Because he thinks it is the rest of the world’s job to fight Israel’s wars and because he thinks such a showdown is a piece of the puzzle in regards to Bible prophecy. To Hagee, there is no middle ground on this issue. God told Abraham he would "bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you" (Gen. 12:3). That means if YOU aren’t on board with wars that might be in Israel’s interest, but not in the United States’, then YOU will be cursed by God. At least according to Hagee.

That is Hagee's concern that the United States needs to assist Israel if they choose to strike Iran's nuclear facilities. He believes (as I do) that betraying Israel or attacking Israel is an affront to God, since the Jews are God's chosen people. Hagee is slow to criticize Israel though, like when they went too far into Lebanon fighting Hezbollah.
I know it sound kooky, but it is way different then pushing Israel into a fight with Iran to speed up The Rapture.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/max-blumenthal/rapture-ready-the-unauth_b_57826.html

Again, sort of the same story being reported by a different guy. The second paragraph goes back to Hagee's teachings.

http://www.alternet.org/story/42774/

While this article has a sexy title to scare you, I didn't find one politician mentioned using Revelation as the basis for US foreign policy, neither did it make the case that the current policy in Iraq or the opposition of an Iranian nuclear program is tied into some greater Zionist conspiracy to end the world.
In fact, it seems the author's whole thesis is based on the fact that evangelicals are in charge of US foreign policy, therefore all these actions we are taking in the Middle East have to be based on Rev. Hagee's teachings, instead of national security interests however misguided they may be.

http://glenngreenwald.blogspot.com/2006/09/evangelical-desires-for-rapture-and.html
Well, the author says a lot about Falwell, but talk of end times has been part of Christian debate for as long as Christianity has been around. During WWII, there were a lot of pastors in America saying the Nazi Movement was the indicator of an impending Rapture, and that Hitler was the Anti-Christ. Nothing new here.

http://www.rapturealert.com/2006/022306axisofevil.htm
Well, while this guy is certainly enthused about the coming of Jesus, he contradicts himself in paragraphs 2 and 3. While on one hand, he says (what is true) no one knows when God begins the onset of The Tribulation, he goes on to say with speculation in paragraph three that he believes the signs of the End Times are upon us.
Just like I said before, a lot of people who are concerned about this sort of thing (like Falwell and Hagee) but this sort of talk has been around for a long, long time. But I have not yet seen a link between this type of faith and American foreign policy.

Some do believe it.This messageboard makes for some interesting readinghttp://www.raptureforums.com/forum/index.php

C'mon dude. Are you sure that isn't another board setup by Struff to offset the evil that is FBA.com?:innocent:

I know I seem callous about this, since it is a core part of my faith. But I took Jesus seriously when He told us even He didn't know when God the Father would send Him back.
So I don't worry about it. I'm not supposed to. I'm not supposed to base my vote on which candidate will help speed up the End Times. I'm not going to deny there are people who will, but I can assure you they are really, really in the minority in the evangelical community. Churches do spend time teaching this, but it's not year round.

I know all of it sounds kooky, but it's what we believe. What I'm telling you is that journalists in the media who try to tie Bush's foreign policy to a belief he is sent from God to help bring us closer to Armageddon are lying to you. They trust the fact you are woefully uninformed on the true studies of Revelation and Daniel, but that you have heard words like "Armageddon" and "Rapture" and throw those terms at you while completely spinning what is being debated and taught in the church.
Israel will not be involved in any war. In fact, at Armageddon there won't even be a shot fired-so those who tell you Christians are poking Israel into a war with Iran for the sake of Armageddon are uninformed and pushing their stupidity on you.

In short, don't believe the hype. We have less then 30 days to the election, Bush is gone in January, and there have been no troop movements to indicate Bush is trying to do a last minute military action/invasion of Iran. In fact, Bush turned down outgoing Israeli Prime Minister Olmert's request for US aid for the IAF if they do a bombing run on Iran's nuclear reactors.

Again, sort of the same story being reported by a different guy. The second paragraph goes back to Hagee's teachings.

Don't believe the hype? Just because you personally don't believe what the more radical Rapture people believe, does not make what the extremists believe any less fatalistic. A member of my family believes we are in the end times, that person believes that we are in the time of tribulation, and the end is near. There is a spectrum of belief when it comes to the rapture, the ones that are "death cultists to the extreme" need to be taken just as seriously regarding their belief system as we would the more "mainstream" believers. The extremists vote, just like you and I, and they have agendas they want to put forth, just like you and I. If anything you, and people that share your belief system, should make more people aware of the fact that there are different opinions regarding belief in the Rapture, because otherwise you will be lumped in with the extremists, and your voice will not be heard over theirs.

I'm serious. I believe this junk. Sorry to scare you, but don't worry about me. I'm just trying to set the record straight on a couple of points, and I know it sounds kooky and weird and scary.

A major point is that for us believers in this stuff is "We DON'T KNOW when it will happen" and are instructed by Jesus Himself to look for His return, but not to worry about it.

Yeah, I guess after dumping all that on you, I was a bit too nonchalant with the "don't believe the hype" remark.

My point is that there is no tangible link between the evangelists and US foreign policy, except that the president is a "born again" and talks to Hagee. The people who are reporting this to you as some sort of sinister plot are lying to you-especially Matthews and Buchanan, who are staunch Catholics whose religious leader tell them that Baptists and other Protestants are the enemy of the Church and God.

And again, if these reports are right, and Bush wants Israel in a war with Iran to bring on Armageddon, I'll ask again:

1-Where are the troop movements to confirm this? Time is short, the Commander in Chief does not have enough time to stage troops in areas to be ready for an invasion or military action against Iran. The logistics simply say "no, this is not happening"

2-Why did he say "no" to Prime Minister Olmert when Olmert requested US help in IAF airstrikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.

The facts of our foreign policy do not match the hype of these reckless media clowns.

Your last point is what I do all the time on this board. I explain what we believe, as simply as possible, try to point out the differences between what you are told in the media and what is truly taught in the church. That's why I believe my voice is greater then the extremists, because I do not mince words when it comes to either defending my faith and those in the leadership roles above me, or calling out the hypocrisy in what is being preached and taught vs. what is written in the Bible-and my words are going to reach you with all the honesty and sincerity I can provide.

I understand there are totally crazy people in this Rapture movement. But they are in no way organized or connected in any form to be any type of threat to this government. They are few and far between, while the vast, vast majority of evangelicals who believe in the Rapture and Tribulation are like me-open for debate and unwilling to force what we believe down your throat.

I suppose the response would be is that these authors were merely guided by God as they wrote, it was His words they copied into text.

Guess what guys? No need to worry about tomorrow's report on Palin's alleged abuse of power. Turns out she investigated herself. And wouldntcha know it? She's cleared of wrong doing! (http://ap.google.com/article/ALeqM5jOTk11gvqDAgD0cY3i4WjI_2YOxwD93NB6NG5)

On the eve of a report on a legislative panel's abuse-of-power investigation into Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, campaign officials released their own report clearing her of any wrongdoing.
Palin, running mate to Republican presidential nominee John McCain, is the subject of two inquiries into whether she abused her power by firing her public safety commissioner. The commissioner says he was dismissed for resisting pressure to fire Palin's former brother-in-law, a state trooper.
Lawmakers are expected to release their findings Friday.

According to the Washington Independent (whoever the hell they are!), the Palin Troopergate report (http://washingtonindependent.com/11904/troopergate-report-under-wraps)is a doozy:

The bipartisan body set up to review the report met this morning behind closed doors to discuss its findings. The report, prepared by retired assistant district attorney Steve Branchflower, is 263 pages long and has 800 pages or so of evidence.

Branchflower had been wrangling to get statements from witnesses ever since Palin was tapped to run on the GOP presidential ticket. Her early cooperation turned to stonewalling, with the help of a team of lawyers Sen. John McCain sent to Anchorage.

Still, Branchflower was able to interview key witnesses.

That could be a fun little report.

I find that, although Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Trooper Mike Wooten was not the sole reason he was fired by Governor Sarah Palin, it was likely a contributing factor to his termination as Commissioner of Public Safety. In spite of that, Governor Palin's firing of Commissioner Monegan was a proper and lawful exercise of her constitutional and statutory authority to hire and fire executive branch department heads.

The evidence supports the conclusion that Governor Palin, at the least, engaged in "official action" by her inaction if not her active participation or assistance to her husband in attempting to get Trooper Wooten fired [and there is evidence of her active participation]. She knowingly, as that term is defined in the above cited statutes, permitted Todd Palin to use the Governor's office and the resources of the Governor's office, including access to state employees, to continue to contact subordinate state employees in an effort to find some way to get Trooper Wooten fired. Her conduct violated 39.51.100(a) of the Ethics Act. That statute provides that:

"The legislature reaffirms that each public officer holds office as a public trust, and any effort to benefit a personal of financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust."

Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda, to wit: to get Trooper Michael Wooten fired. She had the authority and power to require Mr. Palin to cease contacting subordinates, but she failed to act.

Such impermissible and repeated contacts create conflicts of interests for subordinate employees who must choose to either please a superior or run the risk of facing that superior's displeasure and the possible consequences of such displeasure. This was one of the very reasons the Ethics Act was promulgated bu the Legislature. That such a conflict of interest arises in such circumstances was best summarized by John Bitney, who summed it up when he testified:

MR. BITNEY: I seem to recall that i said "I'll check it out," or "let me see what I can do." I mean, you know, that was, you know. My recollection of my own sense was, you know, "here's a friend and" if you will "the Governor's husband," who's got into office who's got a problem, you know, and someone that seem to be a serious problem for him, from my perspective. You know, when the First Gentleman comes into your office and says you got a problem, you sort of feel compelled to look into it and see if something can be done.

In this case Governor Palin has declined to provide an interview. An interview would have assisted everyone to better understand her motives and perhaps explain why she was so apparently intent upon getting Trooper Wooten fired in spite of the fact she knew he had been disciplined following the Administrative Investigation. She also know that he had been permitted to keep his job, and that the disciplinary investigation was closed and could not be reopened. yet she allowed the pressure from her husband, to try to get Trooper Wooten fired, to continue unabated over a several month-period of time.

Governor Palin has stated publicly she and her family feared Trooper Wooten. Yet the evidence presented has been inconsistent with such claims of fear. The testimony from Trooper Wheeler, who was part of her security detail from the start, was that shortly after elected to office, she ordered a substantial reduction in manpower in her personal protection detail in both Anchorage and Juneau, an act that is inconsistent with a desire to avoid harm from Trooper Wooten or others. Moreover, assuming that Trooper Wooten was ever inclined to attack Governor Palin or a family member, logic dictates that getting him fired would accomplish nothing to eliminate the potential for harm to her or her family. On the contrary, it might just precipitate some retaliatory conduct on his part. Causing Wooten to loose[sic] his job would not have de-escalated the situation, or provided her or her family with greater security.

I can't wait until they find out how to blame this on the gotcha media.

The good thing about being governor is you can break the law and try to ruin someone's career and not even get sued by it!

I don't hear those right-wingers howling about "respect for the rule of law"

The Palin Administration in Alaska is run exactly like the Bush Administration, with a complete disdain for any attempt to check its power and a love of secrecy.

AP apparently decides to put out a McCain campaign press release about the puck dropping. (http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/27136268/)

To a mixture of boos and cheers, Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin dropped the ceremonial first puck Saturday night at the Philadelphia Flyers’ home opener against the New York Rangers.

The Alaska governor and self-described “hockey mom” heard a few boos when she walked onto the ice, but that soon turned to polite applause as she headed to center ice with Mike Richards of the Flyers and Scott Gomez — from Alaska — of the Rangers.

This is rich: Gov. Hockey Mom attacked Obama's positions on abortions at a rally as "extreme":

"In times like these with wars and financial crisis, I know that it may be easy to forget even as deep and abiding a concern as the right to life, and it seems that our opponent kind of hopes you will forget that," Palin told a crowd in Johnstown. "He hopes that you won't notice how radical, absolutely radical his idea is on this, and his record is, until it's too late."

You people should stop worrying about silly stuff like wars and the economy going to shit and be concerned about fetuses!

By the way, according to polls, Palin's position on abortion, that it should be illegal without exception, is held by a whopping 10% of voters. (Source: http://www.pollingreport.com/abortion.htm) But, obviously, Obama's not in the "mainstream" on this.

The McCain/Palin campaign has gone from just thinking voters are stupid to thinking they're utterly retarded.

One thing that is never addressed by the anti-choice people is what the punishment would be if abortion was made illegal. There is a youtube video of someone asking people that very question at pro-life rallies, and these people don't have an answer.

If something is illegal, there has to be a punishment for it, that is how our society works. They want something made illegal, but don't think about anything past the word "illegal".

This kills me. Not only do they want all abortions illegal, but birth control as well. Then it will be condoms, because that is also blocking potential babies. And abstinence only education, don't forget that. If any of that should ever occur (I know that many people say abortion is too big of an issue to get rid of, the Republican base would have nothing to run on if it was gone, but whatever) women need to stop having sex. Seriously. Because that would be the only way to control your reproductive rights.

The Boo Birds (http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/2008/10/boo-birds.html)

Watching on Comcast, it seemed like there was an avalanche of boos when she walked out -- boos that were almost immediately drowned out by blaring, bombastic music.

There is no doubt in my mind that that the music was ordered up to help tamp down what could have been an even more embarrassing moment.

The weirdest part of it was that Palin, who had to know she was going to be booed, walked out with her cutie pie 7-year-old daughter, Piper.

http://www.delawareonline.com/blogs/uploaded_images/83230785-742387.jpg

From Fox News (http://embeds.blogs.foxnews.com/2008/10/11/palin-drops-puck-at-flyers-game-receives-mixed-reaction/).

The GOP Vice-Presidential nominee said at an earlier fundraiser that she would stop some of the booing from the rowdy Philadelphia fans by putting her seven year old daughter, Piper in a Flyers jersey. She said, 'How dare they boo Piper!'

Hey, remember that Yahoo mail account Palin had that got hacked?

A judge in Alaska has ordered that the emails sent from those accounts must be preserved just like email sent from her official email accounts.

Just judging from the screenshots I saw, it does appear she was sending more than updates of her kids' hockey games from that Yahoo account. And now we should know exactly what it was.

When the Bush Administration pulled this "use an external email account" gimmick, they used RNC servers, so they had control over the mail server and could possibly dump stuff. Using Yahoo, everything's going to be there. They can't even pull off being scumbags correctly.

My feeling is that Palin's political career is going to be over soon assuming she is not elected VP. I don't know if she'll actually be impeached, but without McCain's lawyers to cover her, the heat on her is just going to increase and increase.

It depresses me to think how people wold have flipped out if Obama had a daughter the age of Palin's and she got pregnant by, let's say, some dude who played on the basketball team at her school. I can't even imagine the same pity pirty for Palin being considered for an instant in that scenario.

white voters with negative views of African-Americans.

Take that, Congressman Murtha!
