Mattingly does not deserve to be a hall of famer. He played a position of power and only had power for a couple of years. His numbers are no where near what they need to be to be a hall of famer at 1b. Yes he has lots of gold gloves which help him but the rest of his #s are not good enough.
Looking at the votes Mcgriff aint ever getting in. Hes way too low in votes its will be too hard to make that up. The only way he gets in is the vet committee voting him in years from now.

we did this once on the board and if i remember right, mattinglys numbers ended up being surprisingly as good or better than a bunch of 1b who are already in the hall. injuries fucked mattingly, but for 5-10 years he was undoubtedly the best at his position. And this is coming from a Red Sox fan, sayin he should get in.

i agree injuries fucked him and he was the best all around at his position for 5 years (not 10) but all that counts and you cant let a guy in because he was injured. hes at like 17% votes, he aint getting in unless the vet committee votes him in which he has a shot because a lot of those voters are probably yankees! even with the injuries his numbers arent bad, man. He hit over 300 for his career. there was a time (and he played in part of that time) where that alone would get you in. over 1K RBI, incredible defense. Has an MVP, a few silver sluggers.
I think Mattingly should get in if that fat bum Kirby Puckett is in

However, Puckett's good guy persona began to erode in the years before his death. In March 2002, a woman filed an order for protection against Puckett's wife Tonya, alleging that Tonya had threatened to kill her over an alleged affair with Puckett. That month, another woman asked for protection from Puckett, saying in court documents that she had had an 18-year relationship with him and that he had shoved her in his Bloomington condominium. Then on September 5, he was arrested and charged with groping a woman in a restroom at Redstone American Grill in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. A witness testified that he saw Puckett drag a woman into the bathroom at the restaurant, and that she appeared terrified when she came out moments later. The alleged victim claimed Puckett squeezed her hard enough to cause a bruise. Puckett was subsequently charged with false imprisonment, a felony; fifth-degree criminal sexual conduct, a gross misdemeanor; and fifth-degree assault, a misdemeanor.[30] Puckett was acquitted.[31] After a nine-day trial, a jury ruled Puckett not guilty of all counts. However, the damage had been done and he felt compelled to relinquish his role as Twins executive vice president.

and add on Hiroki Kuroda:
The New York Yankees have added former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hiroki Kuroda to their suddenly deep rotation, sources confirmed. The deal is for one year and $10 million, sources told ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.
Combined with the blockbuster trade with the Seattle Mariners for 22-year-old Michael Pineda, the Yankees have reconstructed their rotation. Ace CC Sabathia will likely be followed by Pineda, Ivan Nova, Kuroda and then either Phil Hughes, A.J. Burnett or Freddy Garcia.
im gonna go ahead and guess that AJ is gone, garcia will be a spot/emergency starter long reliever and hughes will go back to like 7th 8th inning type shit

They are pegging this kid to be the 2 Nova 3 and Kuroda Hughes 4 5.
I'm a little weary of this deal because ace young pitchers aren't given away for just 1 top hitting prospect and a another pitcher. Especially one that is just turning 23.
Either Seattle is very stupid or they didn't think he will be that good.

Cashman has had a TERRIBLE track record with trades, especially when young SPs are involved.
Weaver, Vasquez etc.....
And then there is the handling of said young SPs...
This kid has ability but I do not trust Cashman when it comes to these type of moves.
And as good as I think Montero will be, this kid better damn well be a front line #1 starter.

at least you're somewhat informed versus a tenbats homer
to me though, this one is a good risk simply bc it's harder to find a SP with this type upside and you gave up a piece you had no room for. yet you have to think Montero at DH/1B would be better over time than Arod as his roid free body comes down to earth and he ages at an exponential rate. Montero can clearly hit, and he'll only get better. He seemed perfect for yank stadium too since he could go the other way with power quite easily and hit that short porch.
Pineda has some great hits to inning ratio and WHIP for them last year. He also has some great heat and K numbers so early in his career. He can let loose with the Yanks to back him too. He's going to be very good there, unfortunately. That same short porch may hurt him though being a righty.

it makes it easier to falsify the documents. The name that they use that isnt real actually belongs to someone in the domincan who is the age they claim to be. Its not like a fake name, more like they steal someone else's and it makes it easier for them to get documents

My Reds have been fairly busy this offseason, getting a quality starter (Mat Latos), a closer (Ryan Madson) and a back up outfielder (Ryan Ludwick.)
Those were their major objectives, but I still wish they had a bona fide leadoff man.
I guess they're content to let Brandon Phillips continue batting there, as he did for the last 6 weeks of the season.

The Tigers will break 2013 spring training with three DHs, two of which are morbidly obese and the other coming off of major knee surgery. They're going to have to eat a considerable amount of his salary if they expect Martinez to garner any interest on the trade market.
On a related note Gonzalez at 7/150million and Bautista at 5/65million are looking like steals. As much as I dislike Boras, but the man knows how to do right by his clients.

I'm so disgusted by this ownership. It has nothing to do with not resigning Reyes who will be playing for the Yankees in 2-3 years. And not NEARLY worth the money they will be paying him. They just can't do a god damn thing right. Ever.
How is Mark Cuban not allowed into MLB ownership yet the Wilpon family who have brought nothing but embarrassment to this franchise allowed to still own this team? :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash: :wallbash::wallbash::wallbash::wallbash:

Well, the mets were talking about possibly adding him as a 4th outfielder, and we're the laughing stock of mlb...then again bobby v gets the most out of marginal players see b. agbayani & timo perez
Glad to see him back, One of my all time Fav. skippers.

I guess. I wonder why the Mets didn't grab him? They don't have a closer, are they that destitute?

Selig doesn't want an owner thats going to publicly speak out and criticize the umpires, the commissioner etc like how he does in the NBA.
Saying that Selig's a douche and Cuban should be allowed to purchase the Mets if he wanted to

Ive said before.
Its just despicable how much the Yankees are spending.
They have signed everyone.
and as I said before they don't have to as they are EASILY the highest paid team in every direction, at every level and reupped with CC with huge money too
just stop with this complete bullshit and this ignorant take on salaries simply bc NY isn't signing everyone in every year...especially since most of the talent with a bat doesn't fit your team at 1st/dh being that they are locked in to the tune of hundreds of millions of $ (Arod/Tex)

Hey spoon - have fun watching Cordero blow leads for Toronto this season!
Hey gvac, have fun watching Cordero as a one inning max guy in the 7th or 8th as a setup to Santos. They have done an outstanding job rebuilding their bullpen, and they will surely be using Cordero in a different way than in the past.
Oh and since when did Toronto ever have that many leads to blow since 93?

Facts are hurtful to Greg. Plus he's already mourning the loss of Votto near year via free agency.

I know that they won't be using him as a closer like Cincy did, that's why I said he'd blow LEADS, not WINS.
I just think he's shot.

If they could get another big bat, this team is looking pretty good.
If Espinosa and Ramos progress, Werth benefits from a bump in the lineup and a full year of Zimmerman, LaRoche returns and can put up 25 HR 90 RBI, Morse does it again, it's not a bad line up. Sure they could use a big bat, but who couldn't.
Rotation and Pen are solid. Some nice prospects. Things are on the up in D.C.
All this while Baltimore contines to languish.
