I wouldnt be surprised to see them sign 2 big names! Their payroll was $57 million last year and I read an article that said they are willing to raise that to $80+ million in 2012. Thats $23 million right there plus any money that is coming off the books. Maybe $12-$15 for Reyes and maybe $15 -$17 million or so for Buehrle and they can get both. Remember there isnt any state income tax in Florida either so that helps them too.

On a side note does anyone think either of those players deserve $15 million a year each? I dont, Reyes gets hurt it seems every year and had 1 great season, last year. Buehrle is a really good lefty who has had pretty good #s in the AL but he isnt worth top money. Maybe $14 or $15 similar to his last deal but not $18-$20 million!

On the first part, I do agree they are very well capable of signing both or all three for that matter, as the Marlins have a history of throwing money around for short periods of time to go for a championship/to make a splash. Now being a relocation and new launch of the product overall, and here we have version three about to happen. Add to this that they won two WS titles using this tactic, and is there really any doubt they'd go for a third shot?

As for the second part, yes both will get their money and on the MLB sliding scale they are worth it. If a one inning/2 batter lefty specialist that sucks can garner a few million a year in this MLB market, then both are worth their asking prices. Do I THINK it's worth it? Hard question bc both, especially Reyes, have great potential. Buehrle in the NL too, could be pretty hard to hit.

I kinda wish they would trade Hanley Ramirez he doesn't seem to have it the last some odd years and is heady. Although I would be curious to see if he and Reyes would make a good tandem on the field.
