It's a shame they traded Ian Kennedy away...

He has had a great year but he just was not going to get it done here.

Plus we got Granderson in that deal.

Yah, the NL West still has a team alive in after 162 games and perhaps more with only one representative. Good point.

I'd say the pitching is easily on par, its just that the hitting, mostly because of the atrocities in San Fransisco and San Diego, is most certainly not.

Yah that trade is so clearly easy to analyze right now and compare. Garbage time hit for Montero, back to back bombs in the first now for Nova. Let's be fair and not judge trades WAY too early, not to mention Montero can't field for shit...ANYWHERE. Not to many people look for DH prospects no matter how well they hit.

Except for the fact that he is a catching prospect with a league in need of those, but that's just petty facts.

And don't give me weak defense teams put up with weaker defense when you have a hitting prospect like him.

How about I know damn well they/he claims to be a catcher, but he fucking SUCKS at it and nobody is willing to go after this guy just bc he gets pitches to hit over the HUGE names on the team sporadically for a month. He's a near future DH and barely has seen a second at first as well. You watch, he'll play DH all year for you next year too, with spot starts behind the plate until his D kills him and catching wears down the only upside he has even at a young age. How many games did they give behind the plate in his month plus up this year? 3 and don't forget the guy K's a lot too. It's not just all the pluses you trade for Kev, it's his upside and baggage as well and he has both. As far as options for using this guy, they are pretty limited in my mind. If not now, very soon he'll be DH city or a shitty defensive C/1B/RF at best.

The young catchers’ few weaknesses lay in his defense. As impressive as his bat is, his work behind the plate is a very different story. While he is blessed with a strong arm and plenty of hand-eye coordination, his big-boned 6’4″ frame doesn’t fit well in a crouch and he’s far from agile. The Yankees have worked with him on his footwork, and limited his number of passed balls so far in ’11 after allowing 15 last season, but he simply doesn’t look the part. He has significant holes when blocking pitches and advanced baserunners will be able to exploit his sluggish footwork and slow reactions. In short, his big body and sluggish footwork will probably keep him from becoming a full-time catcher in the Major Leagues– much less an average one.

Though Montero’s arm is strong and his release continues to improve, his CS% continues to hover around 20% and he’s now allowed 169 stolen bases though 193 games catching at Scranton. He doesn’t move out of the crouch and his throwing mechanics, like many other aspects of the young catchers’ defense, are slow and still developing. He’s certainly athletic enough for first base, and if he can improve his body control and firm-up his heavy build even more, he could have a future at third base or in an outfield corner.

Like most catchers, Montero has well-below-average speed. He runs flat-footed and despite his ability to make hard contact and drive the ball to all fields, will have trouble taking extra-bases with his legs. He’s isn’t Adam Dunn or Jorge Posada-slow though, and he’s a smart enough baserunner to keep his legs from base-clogging.

Like I said, other teams are doing it too and it all sucks.

The first team in this era to start the bs to my memory was Texas last year when drunky and crew came up with that stupid deer shit we all had/have to endure still. Now every team does it and it SUCKS. It bothers me so much I could be persuaded to root against a team just bc of it, and it's happening. If what you say is true, it's pretty funny but still annoying. But if they are ripping into Mil for their shit I kind of dig the dig in the end. I'm just not convinced they aren't just following suit and think they have a better call sign.

$115 million is still a lot. And People compare Bostons payroll all the time to the yanks which is also $40 million less but many of you love say their payroll is on par. What I meant was they are a higher priced team then most. Turns out they actually spent less then I thought but not much. I thought they were top 5 spender they are 10th.

The teams on that list that shocked me was Minn at $112 mil and SF at $118 mil. TB at $41 is so impressive. I would love to see them win and MLW at $85 probably wont resign Prince so that will drop to $65-$70 next year. Its sad that these teams cant keep their talent anymore. I hope they figure out a way to keep Prince and Braun together!

That wasn't our point. Our point was that you said that Det. Is on par with Boston in spending which is far from the Case.

No one is disputing that teams have a huge advantage over others.

Small markets can compete but it takes a lot more effort and their window is far smaller.

I would be alot more mad but I expected this the last night of the season when they let St. Louis in the playoffs. Maybe they will learn a lesson from this. You dont let the hottest team in the league make the playoffs if you can control it. Thats what they get for not putting minor leaguers out there against the Braves to keep St. Louis from getting in. They put those 102 wins over putting themselves in the best position to try and make the World Series, and now they get to sleep in that bed.

Come on cj, in certain divisions smaller teams will always have a shot bc SOMEONE makes it to represent the division. Not to mention you have to take into account the analogy brought up earlier that Ron didn't make up and has been said for a long time about baseball. If you get in you have a shot obviously, buy you can't sidestep a 162 game season and sneak in. TB is doing so much with pitching and a stellar manager. To me they are one of the most impressive stories out there for a few years now.

On the Minny front, they are up there bc of a few players finally being held and as Snacks has pointed out in the past it hasn't worked out. Mauer, Morneau and Nathan take up almost HALF of that salary and it simply isn't their style. TB fought going that route and still allowed Soriano, Crawford and others to walk. Minny changed gears and went the other route and it hasn't worked. Mauer will return to form, most have to believe that, but it will be at first in my mind making his contract more iffy. However, he is a hometown guy and losing him of all those mentioned would have possibly killed this team in attendance and pr. I get what they did, but not to the level (financial and amount of players) they did it of late.

Until the league changes something up, we'll always have a core of top market spending teams in the post-season, and a few lesser market teams from the other divisions vying to take them down. In a sprint as people have stated, it's anyone's game. Problem is, it's usually the same teams in the starting blocks with the best equipment and chance most years. The mere fact those teams don't do more, as in the yankees of the late 90s, shows mismanagement and ambivalence by their high paid players in my mind. Yet, look at the average WS winner of late. It's usually a HUGE market/salary team or a shot in the dark upstart team LOADED with young pitching studs that all have career years.

DREAM TEAM FAIL (So far)

Yah, I don't know if it was a rotation fail as much as a hitters nightmare. Halladay usually has issues in the first, if any, and he pitched plenty well last night to win. Carpenter, another ex Jay and former Cy winner was simply stellar and the two of them put on different pitching shows. Carpenter dominated and Halladay showed what how great pitchers can grind and be crafty to keep their team in it even if off a little. He threw 32 pitches in the first and still got through 8 giving up only 1 run. It's pretty stellar in another way, but Carpenter was clearly the man last night. I always liked him too, but it does sting to say the least.

Lee had a shitty start no doubt, especially spotted a 4 run lead. And Oswalt surely will be moving on this year and Worley is the new #4. I'm pretty sure someone is just throwing dream team at everything philly now too, bc I don't ever recall hearing that about the rotation?

If they are the dream rotation kev, what the fuck do we call the whole yankee lineup every year? Oooo, don't answer I got it, the golf team. One area Toronto will kick their ass in! Practice bitch!

Nova is pretty good but other than that its dog shit.

Even CC was pretty mediocre after mid August.

If he opts out I think about not resigning him. Wrong side of 30 weight issues.

They already have an absolute albatross conttact with Arod and possibly Texiera who's on base avg ops has steadily declined the past 3 yrs.

Never heard dream team but I've heard best ever many times.

Talking shit or being honest?

"They think his presence, his attitude out there sometimes is like a phony attitude," Greinke said. "And then he yells at people. He just stares people down and stuff. And most pitchers just don't do that. And when guys do, I guess some hitters get mad. Some hitters do it to pitchers. But when you do that some people will get mad.

"There's other pitchers in the league that do it, but, I don't know," Greinke said, "a lot of guys on our team don't like Carpenter."

That's the quote. Also in the press conference he said that the Cardinals play hard, they have good fans and their manager is smart.

its not so much that hes looking more per year. What hes going to want is to add the years on to his deal. I think he has 4 years left? If he was going to keep this deal as is, he knows when its up he will be 35 and he wont get 3 years at $25 million per. This way he knows that if someone wants to sign him they will have to give him 6-8 years meaning he will be getting another $70-$100 million guaranteed now because of the extra years. Its exactly why ARod opted out. Not so much the money per year but basically to get more years knowing if you start to slide you will never get the chance to get that additional money!

I can see how the player wants the years plus they money for those years, However playing devils advocate what if the Yankees front office looks at A Rods situation and evaluate it with CC. In '07 A Rod had an MVP year. From 08-10 He averaged HR in the 30's and put up respectable numbers . During the 09 Post season the critics were silenced he carried the team. This year was subpar granted it was the injuries but he did not have a productive postseason. I know he still had the thumb injury, and a lot of the other players were sub par offensively but the highest paid ballplayer is going to catch the most heat. Hes going to be 37 next year, Can he have a couple of more seasons with 40+ HR? Its possible

CC is a power pitcher. They can usually pitch into their mid 40's but has a 300+ pounder ever pitched so many years? He did drop the weight during the offseason but gained it back during the season.

In the end CC wants the years and money, but if He opts out and gets a new contract and stays in NY. Hes going to be expected to pitch 200+ innings 200K's and win at least 15

its worth the risk b/c he knows that the very least he will get what hes getting now or maybe a little more for at least 4 years by another team if the yanks decide not to fall for this shit again. the problem is the yanks will because their staff is shit and without cc they have no staff and there is no pitchers out there like cc for the yanks to get.

Saw on the ESPN site that Texas is going to be throwing money at CC if he decides to opt out.

He had a decent year but began to lose a few and didnt have a good Postseason. How much more could he ask for? I think he will be making $24MM next year, While hes good hes not worth 27-30MM

And does Texas really have that money to spend?

I've been wondering if the Rangers can stay at this level, or if they'll be like the Marlins and fall back into the shitter, but they're for real. They have great attendance, and a really great TV deal. I don't think they quite have Yankees or Red Sox money, but they are definitely in that top tier. So, yeah, they could probably sign CC if they really want to.

Unless he is getting very close to arbitration then i see no reason why Tampa would trade Shields.

Edit, he has 5years experience, i don't remember him being around 5 years.

If its not Shields, NY has to make a trade. Even if CC comes back their Rotation isnt complete. Granted Garcia and Colon did better than I thought, they need some solid arms and not pitchers they are going to rent a year

He has options for 7mil next year, 9mil in '13 and 12mil in '14. With the depth of pitching in the organization they wouldn't hesitate to deal him for the right haul. I suspect they will keep him until at least the deadline next year and see where they are in the standings unless they are blown away by an offer. Shields is a pretty good pitcher, nothing more or less. He isn't as bad as he looked in '10 and he isn't quite as good as his numbers looked this year.

I also don't see them dealing him in the Division.

Though the Yankees have the catching pitching prospects they would want.

Even if they do not like Montero's D they have 2 more highly touted catchers in the system.

I see him in Texas or some place.

Really??? Is this real life?

I went to 4 games at Busch this year, didn't see one winner. I turned down a few tickets near the end of the season, I just lost hope.

Where the fuck did this bullpen come from, I mean wtf, Carp is starting game 1 of the world fucking series on Wed. The line up is actually dominating, alberta is dominating.

I mean what could of been better in the world but crushing the brewers hopes. The only shot they will prolly ever have just gone. Fucking unreal.

As a true cards fan it is just unreal to actually see this happen. Wainright is gone, our closer loses every game of the first 30, injury's to our sluggers all year. Listening to talk radio after we got swept by the dodgers/mets near the end it is just unreal. And then our bullpen wins the ALCS. Our fucking bullpen, fuck jockety our new gm deserves some credit.

Oh well been partying all night in the STL, its just an unreal feeling.

My understanding is that the Brewers dealt off a good chunk of their farm system to try to be in shape for a run this year, realizing that Fielder would probably be gone after the season. They are really gonna suck ass next year.

The 1st pitch hasnt been thrown yet and they are already asking Pujols about free agency or a new contract. He's said many times that he doesnt discuss these things during the season.

I Know Baseball is a business and theres no loyalty or obligation to stay. But I hope he does. Hes the best player by far, He put up great numbers even being the DL this year. He wasnt involved in the steroids controversy, hasnt been arrested or had a dui etc. Plus hes highly respected by other players and managers.

With the era of players moving teams. It would be good to see Pujols as a career cardinal

I usually go for the AL team but Its WS Title # 11 or bust

The Cardinals have always been a class organization, and they're one of those teams I really like seeing doing well. I hope Albert Pujols realizes that he is the star of the team in the city in America that probably loves its team as much as anyone, and if he stays there and wins a couple of more rings, he'll be a god there forever.
