He will last 15 minutes. Joe Girardi, Fredi Gonzalez, and Edwin Rodriguez are all company men and couldn't make it work in Florida with ownership. Guillen will be collecting 16 mil to be on the MLB network the next four years.

Maybe if they weren't coming out of the skid and getting the rotation set for the NLDS. But I feel like we've had a better time against the Cards this year than the Dbacks. Plus you get the extra oompf stomping on a division rival. It's not like the Braves are scoring any runs, they're not about to go into extra innings over this shit.

Well Im hoping they at least tank today. This way Garcia has to pitch their 1 game playoff and the only NLDS game hed get to pitch in would be Game 3. Blanton starting today and hes not gonna go more then 4 innings so theres a good chance it could happen. Why make it easier for the Cards???

I have said this for years yet another fucked up thing mlb does. You know how many years the yanks should have played Boston but played a shittier Minnesota team in the 1st round because Bos was in the same div? In every other sport you play the team based on best vs worst. Does matter if you are in the same div or not. One of the many reasons baseball sucks and isnt a fair sport. Another thing to help certain teams and the tv networks!

Reyes won't be a Met this season. Giving large contracts to guys like Reyes is exactly what got the Mets in this position. Alderson (and Minaya, let's be fair) has built a pretty decent farm system with a few high potential starters. The Mets run will come in 2013 when Harvey, Wheeler, etc are plugged into the rotation and Alderson will use free agency as a means of obtaining complimentary pieces, rather than corner stones of the franchise.

good work spy. Explain something, this is from YOUR link proving to me they never had 3 wild cards:

The playoffs expanded to 12 teams for the 1990 season, and an additional game was added to this week.

they didnt go to 4 divisions til late 90's. Since there was 3 divisions per conf in the other part of the 90's, where did they other 2 teams come from

3 divs 2 WCs is 5. But clearly, they had 6 per conf. so 3 wild cards

thanks

The NFL playoffs following the 1990 NFL season led up to Super Bowl XXV.

The league expanded its playoff system from a 10-team to a 12-team tournament. With these changes, three wild card teams (those non-division champions with the conference's best won-lost-tied percentages) qualified, up from two the year before.

The format consisted of the following:

The three division champions from each conference are seeded 1 through 3 based on their regular season won-lost-tied record.
Three wild card qualifiers are seeded 4, 5 and 6 within the conference.

I only remember 3 wild card and thought at 1 time there were 2 wild cards that played each 2 div winners and the best team had a bye week? I could be wrong but it would surprise me that they went from 1 wild card straight to 3 wild cards?

I could be wrong but it would surprise me that they went from 1 wild card straight to 3 wild cards?

Here's what I found about this:

The number of wild-card qualifiers was expanded to two per conference in 1978 — the divisional winners were granted a bye week whilst the wild card teams played (hence the origin of the phrase "Wild-Card Round"). Like wild card teams before, the wild card game winner played the #1 seed, or the #2 seed if they and the #1 seed were divisional rivals. The playoffs were expanded again to three wild cards per conference in 1990 with the lowest ranked divisional winner losing its bye (and divisional rivals could now meet in the divisional playoffs). Following the addition of the Houston Texans in 2002, the league added a fourth division to each conference. The league decided not to change the number of playoff teams, and thus the number of wild card qualifiers was reduced to two per conference.

I say it because Tampa and St. Louis are the 2 hottest teams in baseball right now. And I dont want either one near the Phillies. Yea, that and 2 amazingly hot win streaks. St. Louis has won 16 of their last 21. Tampa has won 16 of their last 24. You dont have to be the best team to win in the playoffs, many times its the hot team that pulls the upset...like San Fran last year.

Would you rather play the team that limped into the playoffs, or the team that forced their way in? It doesn't matter because the Yankees aren't playing them, but the point remains: The Rays are a dangerous team, much, much more dangerous than the Red Sox.

see 2007 rockies

they prob wont do much more then make it a 4 or 5 game series loss but id rather see them then a sawx team decimated by injuries and other shit and prob get swept

I think Detroit is hotter than any of those two. It's not so much that STL/TB are hot it's that they benefited from historically epic collapses.

Detroit in a short series with Verlander scares the shit outta' me.

This. Tb is only 11-5 in last 16, which is fine, but they far from forced their way in. Boston did that for them, let's be real. Shit, like kev said they played a trip a team to finish the year too.

Looks like it wont matter. They are looking to hold Garcia til Game 4. Starting Game 1 with Lohse.

Even though I think Granderson has a chance of winning the MVP there is a huge difference between the 2. Hitting .260 in a line up where he is protected up and down is unacceptable. Having 13 wins on a team that is shit while leading the league in era, whip, IP and being 2nd in K's by 1 k and 2nd in Complete games by only 1 CG is an unreal season. If King Felix was a yankee he might have had 25 wins last year. If Granderson was a Mariner he might have half the #s he had this year with no protection and no one to hit in or hit him in!

i figured out the deal with the tv box k zones

When they show you a game, the camera in centerfield is always offset. Otherwise the pitcher would block the view. Some offset more than others, but its always offset, usually, if not always to the right. When stupid fox or ESPN puts up the k zone, they put it up on based on where the plate is on the screen as if we looked at it dead straight. They dont adjust the K Zones for the camera offset. Thats why sometimes, pitches will be strikes that arent in the k zone, its cause of the paradox view you actually have of the plate, but them not adjusting accordingly.

I hope that helps clear it up some. Alot of times, the ump made a bad call, but those times where the ball is JUST out of the box, especially when its consistantly on one side of the plate that the ump is callin wide, thats usually cause they failed to adjust and those pitches actually did catch the corner

HBox

They all look just as good to the naked eye. If there was a half way decent ump right Sabathia would be through the 3rd with less than half the pitches. The Tigers aren't wearing Sabathia down, the ump is. He's not having control issues, he's hitting the outside corner perfectly.

Its a confirmed sellout. As disappointing as the 2007 postseason (and to a lesser extent September of this season) was, Arizona fans aren't a fraction as pathetic as Florida.

all those awful southern teams
should be reassigned to
more appreciative northern cities

Nice revisionist history. Seattle didn't "pass", the Yankees pulled out because they didn't want to give up Montero, etc.

No dipshit. They gave up Montero. The deal fell apart because the 2b we were giving up had a sprained ankleov so they wanted Nunez. They also liked Smoak over Montero. And when Texas came in they blew up the deal

Kevin

Its about match-ups.

Exactly. Theres plenty of years where the best team doesnt win the World Series. I never liked how we matched up with them. I had no worries about Milwaukee, Atlanta or Arizona, as we kicked their asses all season long. As far as the AL goes, once youre in the WS anything can happen.

True. Milwaukee makes me nervous. They have great pitching and enough bangers in that line-up to do damage.

The Phils just have to find some continuity in that line up. Man it's been the same shit for five years now (not that I am bitching about making the playoffs five years in a row) feast or famine.

Isn't it nice to see all those yankee promos for fucking TBS! I feel like I'm watching YES.

And St. Louis is not some shit team Kev. I'm not sure what you're talking about. Just imagine if they had their full staff too! People wrote them off bc they lost Wainwright and Pujols early and were forced to battle back and did. In fact, they actually went on a fucking tear even compared to TB to earn their spot in the playoffs with both boston and atlanta helping in a big way. Halladay vs Carpenter is going to be sweet to watch...not even tying in the fact both were with Toronto at the same time as kids way back when. Both are Cy winners now that pitch real deep into games. I can't wait to watch that game!

Yah that trade is so clearly easy to analyze right now and compare. Garbage time hit for Montero, back to back bombs in the first now for Nova. Let's be fair and not judge trades WAY too early, not to mention Montero can't field for shit...ANYWHERE. Not to many people look for DH prospects no matter how well they hit.
