because it wasn't a stand your ground case, it was a basic self defense case that wouldn't have been much different anywhere in the country.
I do think though that because the judge allowed SYG to be mentioned in the jury instructions, the defense will use that as an argument for immunity against civil liability.

There was no evidence of testimony over who started the fight. Had Zimmerman started it by grabbing Martin, he wouldn't have been able to claim self defense (because he committed a forcible assault or attempted kidnapping or whatever would have been applied had he grabbed or detained Martin while possessing a gun)
