They need to punt the zealots. Stop electing dodo birds like Mourdock, O'Donnell, Angle, and Akin to lose in 100% winnable races.
Problem is, they've created this beast. Now they have to kill it. The Democrats were smart enough to purge all their zealots 40 years ago post-McGovern. The Reps have to purge their Reaganites. Can't win just with "angry white guys" (to quote Lindsey Graham) any longer.
I think their best path is to embrace the Randians. Go slight Paul (but not full Paul), and embrace the "personal freedom" thing. It's a good way to at least cut into the youth vote a bit, because every campus has hundreds of assholes who read Atlas Shrugged and turn into your annoying younger cousin at the Thanksgiving table.
Back this marijuana thing in Colorado and other things like it. Stop attempting to throw out every illegal immigrant and come up with a viable solution. Stop worrying about what adults do in their bedrooms and who they marry. Stop attempting to solve every economic issue with 30 year old supply-side trickle down bullshit.
you say embrace, but can this party actually let go of so many issues where they don't back "personal freedom" at all
you simply can't pick and choose on this

He was 86, got gerrymandered, and said stupid stuff about rape. Triple winner, right there.
and let's be honest, at fucking 80 it's time to tap out and retire
i hate that people think it's a good idea to keep electing people well into their golden years. I think we need to keep a nice flow of new blood on every level, and term limits are needed badly in congress/senate. I don't see how people can elect old coots around dspy's age so set in their ways

it's to help our energy situation, stimulate cleaner products and so much more. the school thing is simply ridiculous...as private schools can do whatever the fuck they want and take kids from anywhere. public schools operate in specific areas, that's not tough to understand. fund them appropriately and do away with STUPID testing that is pretty much nothing more than a curriculum distraction versus attack their teaching unions bc they make 55k a year and things will work out much better...and that's just a start. yet vouchers and privatization is NOT the fucking answer here or anywhere, unless you want college tuition prices from k-12 too. the prison system should be a great example of what is wrong with that scenario.

I'm parroting Rachel Maddow's thesis a bit here, but you know who is exactly the perfect "modern" Republican President?
Bill Clinton. Seriously.
He was massively fiscally conservative. He deregulated things like the Telecommunications Industry (Telecommunications Act of 1996) and the banking industry (signed the repeal of Glass-Steagall). He was robust on defense and intervening in foreign affairs (Somalia, Bosnia, etc). Not only that, people seem to forget how conservative his running mate, Al Gore was, because the narrative has buried him as an environmentalist wacko on account of his global warming initiatives, which, by the way, he was 100% right on. Dude was one of our biggest, if not biggest, hawks on intervention in Bosnia, and was the bluest of blue dog Democrats. Clinton also basically ended most "traditional" federal welfare when he signed the Welfare Reform Act. And let's not forget NAFTA, which essentially killed what was left of manufacturing in this country.
And he was socially moderate enough (Don't Ask, Don't Tell aside), and he wasn't enough of a cornball racist that he still got 90+ percent of the African American vote and was able to build a broad coalition on both sides of the aisle, despite a loathsome Congress that continually tried to throw him out for spurious reasons.
Look at the reaction the man got at the Democratic Convention from all sides. If he ran for President, he'd win in an absolute Reagan-esque landslide. He's BELOVED in the African American community, despite enacting so many policies that hurt them irrevocably.
If the Republicans want to win elections, find another Bill Clinton. That's your guy.

It's not a free market issue. I don't know if you've noticed, but the climate has gone batshit crazy recently. That's not a coincidence. Oil is a non renewable resource that is eventually going to run out. The Government should be all over green energy projects, and not horse shit like the Keystone Pipeline which (a) runs straight through the water supply that produces most of the food in this country (the Ogalalla Aquifer)
About 27 percent of the irrigated land in the United States overlies this aquifer system, which yields about 30 percent of the nation's ground water used for irrigation. In addition, the aquifer system provides drinking water to 82 percent of the people who live within the aquifer boundary.
(b) will be pumped out on the other side and not sold here, and (c) won't create nearly the jobs it's said to

The entire tax system is fucked up. The IRS tax laws are something like 60,000 pages and counting every year.
I did like GJ's endorsement of the fair tax. The progressive income tax just leads to more loopholes and shelters.
Some of The super wealthy say they want their taxes higher however once that happens they hire lawyers and accountants to do a runaround the law. IE More loopholes and shelters

Yes, there are certain things that should be left to the states. No ones saying to return to the Art of Confed. I believe we should have a uniformed currency and post office and there shouldnt be tariffs btwn states.
There are other ways to fix healthcare that doesnt require the federal gov't to intrude.

Yes, I dont want to subsidize ethanol or factory farms or someone who has a tomato plant in their back yard.
Did you know that Bachmann receives farm subsidies meanwhile she rages against big gov't
Again if theres a company who produces a 100% electric car thats appealing to customers, there will be a market for it.
It shouldnt be left up to the gov't to decide what the new sectors of energy are.
GM could have gone thru a managed bankruptcy, However handing over 60 billion, it just prolongs the collapse. The practices used in the bailout were the complete opposite of a true reorg/restructure.
Playing devils advocate. Even if I supported all these programs. At the very least the 400 billion spent in Afghanistan since 2009 could have been put to use here.

Only AFTER the 1994 GOP Revolution and Dick Morris forced him to the center. And a lot of that deregulation he enacted later led (in part) to the fiscal meltdown that occurred during the Bush years.
That said, the economy has typically done well with a Democratic President and a Republican Congress.
It could be a very, very nasty "civil war" between the religious right and the non-religious elements.
But then again, they still got 52 million votes and came damn close to winning the thing. Perhaps they don't even feel they NEED to change, but I've personally run into so, so many people who are conservative fiscally, and despise what the zealots have done to their party. I think with younger guys like Ryan and Rubio over there, they'll start moving away from them and waiting out the death of that generation, because let's face it....those people ain't getting any younger.
See, I want those Gary Johnson and Meghan McCain types IN the GOP. I want to drive those mindless Bible-thumpers the fuck out of the party and bring back a moderation that Mudo was talking about. This is why the Northeast Republicans are all but extinct. The fucking Southern Republicans from the Bible Belt have completely dominated the party with their bullshit "never compromise" mentality. The assistance centers aren't shelters, so I'm not quite sure what the huge deal is over it being closed for part of the day due to bad weather. As if people would be trudging there during the storm to file their claims, that they could file over the internet or phone (or the next morning), anyway?

Those centers are mobile truck centers that were closed due to the danger of high winds
“Those trucks had to be pretty much taken down and taken off the island due to structural concerns,” Knowles said. “We didn’t want to have damage so we couldn’t return to the island and assist individuals.”
Knowles stressed that it was strictly the mobile sites that were closed.
“We had to take those tents down, we had to take those vehicles down so no one was seriously injured or hurt,” Knowles said.

Um, because they go immediately into areas that have sometimes been completely leveled by storms (see Mississippi Gulf Coast post-Katrina), and they need to be able to set up quickly?
If they started pouring slabs, and constructing permanent structures, you'd be railing about how long it took them to get set up, and about the cost.
Or if they had lines of weather-proof trailers parked in D.C., pre-built, and ready to mobilize for the next emergency, you'd post pictures of them the first time they were sitting idle, and use it as an example of wasteful federal spending.
Just admit that no matter what they do, or did, you'll find a fault.

Before theres an autopsy on the GOP. There is still a chance to revive it and along what Mudo Posted and how AJ Added about shitcanning the religious zealots a few more things can be incorporated so that it can include Gary Johnson and Ron Paul supporters.
If the Repubs want to be small gov't they need to practice their philosophy
1. Stop the foreign interventions and going to war without a formal declaration. Dont be total isolationists however scale back the 700 military bases. Example 40,000 troops in Germany isnt necessary.
2. Republicans want to cut entitlements but not some of the waste in the Pentagon. I think Ron Paul nailed it best when he compared Military Spending to defense spending.
3. On the issue of illegal immigration, I actually thought about this a lot especially after the shellacking Romney got when he only got 30% of the Hispanic vote. There needs to be a dramatic shift because face it. White people will become a minority by 2050 by a lot of estimates. If they feel that there is a continued animosity towards them who knows they may feel that they can do the same to whites when they are the minority.
The GOP has Rubio and NM Gov Susan Martinez, If they can get them and some others who are hispanic and not Democrats to go to their neighborhoods and explain to them free market principles and not say we will give you entitlements but on a more efficient way and educate them on those principles along with business leaders it could cut into the Democratic stronghold. If the GOP can get 50-55% of their vote then they have a good chance of winning national elections.
Immigration reform can finally be done by first doing something about the border. The dream act should be implemented however theres got to be restrictions on full citizenship like serving in the military or peace corps. These provisions can be implemented over a perios of a couple of years. Things shouldnt be rushed. For the parents of children brought here, if they meet requirements they can stay however for knowingly crossing the border they shouldnt be granted citizenship, just green card status.
4. Quit the gay bashing. Gays shouldnt be just a huge bloc for the Democrats. Im sure there are gays out there who hold libertarian views. Some might be republicans but are probably ashamed to say that because many in the GOP think that they are going to hell.

Interesting story about some of the huge fuck-ups of the Romney campaign, especially this:
Romney and his campaign had gone into the evening confident they had a good path to victory, for emotional and intellectual reasons. The huge and enthusiastic crowds in swing state after swing state in recent weeks - not only for Romney but also for Paul Ryan - bolstered what they believed intellectually: that Obama would not get the kind of turnout he had in 2008.
They thought intensity and enthusiasm were on their side this time - poll after poll showed Republicans were more motivated to vote than Democrats - and that would translate into votes for Romney.
As a result, they believed the public/media polls were skewed - they thought those polls oversampled Democrats and didn't reflect Republican enthusiasm. They based their own internal polls on turnout levels more favorable to Romney. That was a grave miscalculation, as they would see on election night.
Those assumptions drove their campaign strategy: their internal polling showed them leading in key states, so they decided to make a play for a broad victory: go to places like Pennsylvania while also playing it safe in the last two weeks.
I wondered why they were pissing away resources on states like Wisconsin and Michigan and Pennsylvania that they probably had no chance in hell winning and not working on states they could have won and needed, like Ohio, Virginia, and Florida. Sounds like Rmoney was surrounding himself with ass-kissers and yes men who just wanted to tell him what they thought he wanted to hear.

I agree with those factors, but another reason why could be that usually the incumbent wins.
Before Romney got the nomination Obama released ads especially in Ohio that tore into Romney. Romney wasn't able to use funds until he got the delegates and clinched the nomination. Plus there were the countless debates and starting the whole 2012 Primary season very early. While those arent the biggest factors they still had some sort of impact

WHAT?! So let's change our opinion/stance not for the RIGHT reasons, but bc we have to in order to survive.
This is hilarious! Go to "their neighborhoods and explain to them free market principles" and trash any support or aid for their families but we'll let you understand why we don't want to help you. This is the worst community outreach program in the history of the planet, and I'm SOOOO SURE it would hold up! HA! 50-55% of their vote is going to come when you abolish support programs for these people you speak of, bc they'll get YOUR education on free market principles from "business leaders" in "their neighborhoods"!? Fucking awesome! THE ONLY possible take you can go with is the far right religious angle here, as religion highly resonates with the Hispanic population. However, Catholic is the wrong answer for your tight fitting party pants of late and they see through the bullshit now too.
Oh yah, this can only help further that cause...of losing 50-55% of the remaining Hispanic vote you have left (you know, that party that you don't support or back in any way but write long diatribes on how to save the party and parrot their bullshit all day long.
4. Quit the gay bashing. Gays shouldnt be just a huge bloc for the Democrats. Im sure there are gays out there who hold libertarian views. Some might be republicans but are probably ashamed to say that because many in the GOP think that they are going to hell.
Oh there are gay republicans, usually in the senate and house...eg. See Lindsey Graham in his closet punching a mirror. Yet again, don't support gay rights bc they simply should be, but bc it helps your voting block. Very sincere changes going on here, and clearly of great impact to the party's stances.
You basically didn't save the party, you tried to find new ways to convince groups not on board to be on board with things against their interest. Why would any of these "ideas" influence a Hispanic or Gay voter to be a part of a political party still not truly inclusive or interested in their rights, needs and goals? What an awesome plan that involved pretty much zero change for the party, just new bullshit tactics to attempt to fool people to vote against their own best interest.

Now that CO has OK'd pot for recreational use, doesnt the federal law basically wash it out? I remember Maher ripping the administration for sending in DEA agents to CA to do some raids
Same thing for healthcare. Alabama (and I think some other states) voted to pass a State ammendment for "No Mandatory Health Care"... but it won't matter.

Now that CO has OK'd pot for recreational use, doesnt the federal law basically wash it out? I remember Maher ripping the administration for sending in DEA agents to CA to do some raids
The difference in cali is they were raiding big time growers and dispensaries for medical marijuana. Whenever these states get the programs running where the state actually sells and taxes marijuana, then things will become an issue with the feds. Until then, its just people possessing a personal amount of weed or a few plants growing in their house. The DEA doesnt have the time or amount of agents to worry about all that.
Generally, even up to pretty high level drug dealers, the federal government doesnt really have much to do with it. Its usually local and state and drug task forces that bust that kinda stuff. And they are governed by the state. so they cant go after people for weed anymore.
The thing is, with the Cali shit and medical stuff, they pissed off the federal govenment. They did something to such a high level with such disregard for discretion that the feds got mad. But that was still all private people. the states pretty much just look the other way.
Now that the states themselves are doing it, its different. Also, the state didnt implement this. The people voted it in. So the feds cant just go and threaten to pull funding or whatever else from the state cause they really didnt do anything.
IMO, i think the feds will just let it go and this will actually pave the way for a national legalization and regulation standard. 5 years tops, i think

Great article about how conservative media is killing conservatism:
For a long time, liberals envied conservatives their media, the echo chamber capable of whipping up stories out of nothing and forcing the mainstream media to pay attention, capable of keeping their troops in line and bucking up their morale, capable of quickly disseminating messages far and wide, creating new stars and enforcing discipline. But perhaps it’s time to look at the conservative media as a weakness, even the right’s Achilles’ Heel.
It isn’t only that their media cause them to delude themselves; the effects sometimes bleed out beyond their brains. Consider the single most damaging moment for Mitt Romney in this election, the 47 percent tape. Where did Romney learn that number, wrapped as it was in an argument about the shocking numbers of Americans who mooch off the efforts of virtuous hard-working job creators? He almost certainly got it from Fox or conservative talk radio, where it had been in wide circulation for some time, and if it wasn’t directly from listening to Limbaugh or Hannity, it came to him from somebody who did.
And it looks like Romney's reliance on this sort of narrative caused him to run his campaign poorly, as he seems to have believed that the "MSM" was "skewing" the polls to make it look like Obama had a lead...which, of course, as it turns out, Obama did, since the final results really turned out like the "skewed" polls said they would.

They are getting something different to what they are getting now. Why not do some outreach especially with some prominent Hispanics like Rubio and Martinez. Theyre not doing so great voting 70% for the Dems
so you extrapolate they are doing poorly DUE TO voting Dem predominately? HA!

Making Rubio the face of the party would be a overwhelming failure. It's GOP tokenism at it's worst. He's the same old guard with a slightly darker complexion. He has the same prehistoric view on social issues that were shot down so dramatically in this election. Even assuming he got you a larger portion of the Hispanic vote, he'll incense other racial minorities, gays and women. Until there is a sea change in the nutty social doctrine of the party the GOP will have a difficult time winning the collective majority that spoke up this year and the Republicans will continue to be a self-defeating mess.
this is much more rational
sure they'll get a slight bump bc people do respond to their own kind easier on the surface, but when the facts are out there he'll do very little in the end...surely not change anything just as Thomas didn't help the Republican with african americans and Rice with Latinos. It's the issues, not the figure heads. If Mitt stayed to his more moderate beliefs instead of flip flopping all over the place he'd of had a much better shot and still would have won the nom, just not as easily (which they still ultimately didn't want him).

I've always maintained that religions are cults. Mormonism is just a more modern one. At least you're admitting religion is a cult. Are you getting caught up in the wave of conservative change that will come if the party is to survive? How would you predict that outcome?
Goodnight
troll.
And that's just it Further, the more modern religions all get knocked around bc they can easily be disproven and ridiculed due to our advances and it being so recent. The older, more indoctrinated dogmas are all so old, so distant, that they are just accepted on faith and throughout generations to hold up the masses with hope of something better. A crutch if you will, and an escape/excuse for leaders as well when they fail or need something (another religion/faith) to blame as they fleece their own people and control them.

Being he's of half Mexican decent, yet has that nice lineage as well, they see an opportunity here and have already moved to address the hispanic vote issues. There are certain aspects that should be left to government specifically on the federal level.
If you have no faith in the free market, then how do you continue believe that the government is capable of anything say running a railroad or a retirement system and when it fucks up, the typical solution is, just have another bureaucracy on top of that so we can hire more paper pushers and pay out more salaries and have more taxpayer funded pensions. Florida is a perfect example of why we need to set some national election standards.
It's obvious that some states can't be left to their own devises.
It's just good that the election didn't hinge on that shithole like in 2000.

You didnt associate anything.
You tried and failed and your ignorance showed.
the amount of stupid fucking shit you make up in your head is impressive AND hilarious!
the only failure here is your ability to comprehend the written word or stay on track
ignorance on the other hand, you are the expert

the bdc tiffs never lasted long, as he'd either cry to a mod (at least WF doesn't pull that card) or ran for the hills
and he is a wfan nut case and mike lover due to their similar stances on everything yankees
does he still have that blog?
anyone have some pictures from our last homer debate I posted which ultimately led to him leaving for good. you know, the one where he tried to tell me all three of Joba, Hughes and Kennedy were going to be Aces and he posted the pic of the dead blue jay to offend me? Well at least he was close!

Let's just call this the WF twitter follower's map. (http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/map-pinpoints-election-online-hate-tweets-article-1.1199402)
and way to go south, you never let us down
i find it funny that some of the northwest has little activity overall, probably bc they just got commodore 64's out there and twitter is years away

You're right, not once did I associate a thing to you...or perhaps in that VERY FUCKING LINK YOU FOOL. You nailed me on the solid point I didn't show the anti-white tweets not reported and it clearly means I hate whites and I'm one-sided against my own race. Not that I was just disgusted with a clear divide and lack of understanding of an area of this country...more an outright bullshit hate still brewing. Somehow you then found a way to go literal on how you don't tweet of late, versus getting the fucking point as per the norm.
