There are a few families around here that grow corn. Just a few plants so I don't know how much yield they get but I love seeing the stalks peeking up over the fences. My parents grew quite a lot. Some stuff grew great like zucchini. For some reason carrots never worked out, I think our soil was too packed and didn't get tilled deep enough. When we get the backyard in shape and plotted out I will attempt to grow them.
One of my friends grows giant pumpkins and his backyard is tiny. They have to take the fence apart each year to get the pumpkin out for the competitions.

I believe it is used in bird feed and such. It looks like dried corn. I've also seen it on the ethnic food aisle but I have no clue what you do with it.

oh and the fruit cellar katpw? it was in the basement. it was basically a closet with lots of shelves. no windows, just a light bulb with a pull string. i remember canning snap beans too. i swear i didn't grow up in the 40's, my family was just very old fashioned.

i know ppl who grow corn, it's delish. i would love to grow my own produce but i don't wanna ugly up my back yard with a chicken wire fence. i'll get to the gardening when i build a house, after the kids are gone. 5 yrs to go and i'm moving to the sticks :thumbup:

actually, i have a house plant question for you... by some miracle, my plants have survived the repotting process. plants that i had almost totally given up on as victims to my brown thumb have slowly started growing new green shutes from the brown crusty, dead looking branches. there are now little flies around them. they look like fruit flies. how do i kill them without distroying the intervention of god against the plants certain doom in my care?

I don't remember if I got a headache while quitting. Lack of a bit of caffeine does that to me. But I remember having an antsy feeling thoughout my whole body.
