fuck you nhl and wanting boston to win...I know you want some bigger hockey markets in it, but come on that was awful
perhaps the black and yellow have confused them and they think it's Sidney's team out there they need to help out?

You work in a bar in the second most racist city in the north. It's no wonder you hear it a lot. I almost never hear it outside of rap music. I used to work with a guy who was racist, but he rarely said it. Though he did use other words like "Sprite drinker".

Well he's on a pretty damn good team and rooks usually do better in those situations when their role is lessened mostly on the D end of the puck and they have great line mates. On lesser teams, guys usually have to step into roles more advanced then their game, either mental or physical. Here he also had four years at a top college to develop, as the kid is just about 21 right now, not 18 like most kid right out of the draft. Those 3-4 years make a HUGE difference in terms of maturity in many ways.
That being said, he was a first rounder and was clearly highly coveted. It's not like we're talking about how he was found in the 6th round like Datsyuk or something. And let's not act like 6 playoff games are some measuring stick to an NHL career here. Not to mention some REAL good picks came before him as well. I think your a little overblowing this situation bc it involves one of your teams once again. Tavares, Hedman, Duchene, Kane, Ekman-Larsson, Cowen, Kulikov....all taken before Kreider and very good players. Others are just getting close or coming next year, just as would be the case with Kreider minus his team being in the playoffs and the suspensions/injuries.
That being said, of course he looks good and should help the team. He was a top recruit in college, a top draft pick and surely a nice sized talented player. I'll reserve full judgement on a bigger sample size and at least ONE regular season game, much less a season. The intensity is SUPER high right now and if you can't get up for these games you have an issue.

He's SOOOOooo slow right now post to post and his five hole looks like a gaping wound (madonna vag sized). It's amazing how far he's fallen since the Yotes, but we do know he has it in him, he's just sooooo WEIRD so it's hard to know when he's going to rebound...if ever.

I dont know about that, but its no secret the reason they shipped them out was because they partied too much. Everyone around here would see them either at McFaddens or in Sea Isle City drinking their faces off and taking home random bar whores. we talked earlier in the year as my buddy is pretty close with him and he actually asked us if he thought Dev fans would hate him if he went to the Rangers....duh. He was shocked that we didn't even hesitate on it. He mentioned Detroit too, so I laid into him on that one and may very well have convinced him they are finally a sinking ship! HAAAA!
I hopefully hurt their shots to land him and had a say in that rivalry moving forward...AWESOME! Yet the Wings are set to offer him a TON of money I here. That trumps some adult league hockey crony of his buddy that hates the ginger snaps. He does NOT want to go back to Minny or play in some crazy Canadian market. He wants to play in the US and is very proud to play for the US in all international events even though his dad was huge in the Summit Series for Canada! Some cool stories too.

Why does that embarrass you? At this point every team does it.

I recall you saying this earlier in this thread and I think I chose to ignore it because it made me sad. But I could see him in a Wings jersey way before I could see him in a Rangers.
I'm just keeping hope that if the Devils go further in the playoffs they could be able to sign him. I don't think he's just a money guy. The Devils are an older team but they have young talent who will be good for awhile. And with Brodeur about done Parise is the face of the franchise. Yeah Kovalchuk is the big money guy and an incredible member of the team, but Parise has the "C" and everyone knows that he's a catalyst in the locker room.
As for the Rangers, being a Devils fan I hate that I enjoy Callahan as much as I do. That guy is a tremendous hockey player through and through.

well some of my marty hate is based on the fact I think roy outshines him in any area outside of playing 70 games every year and stat whoring....even with Marty's success in the playoffs and three Cups, he's not even close to Roy in wins there somehow and where it counts. Great gt sure, but not Roy.
Kovi I always hated bc I simply can't root for a one-way player like him. He's better of late, but he's still uninterested in playing the full sheet of ice and it's no wonder he never won a playoff series until this last one vs a HUGE underdog Florida team bc he as a leader in the playoffs isn't good. Parise, Elias, Clarkson and Henrique are doing all the little things, not Kovi.

This is why he should go gay and start hanging out in the light rail in Newark.
I'm not sure who the Devils would move to make room for his signing, but if they were to win the cup (theoretically) Brodeur would probably retire. That free's up a good chunk of change.

You'd HAVE to make a move or go with a very young untested guy to even have much of a shot. If you go with one of the aging shitbirds available, you're fucked from day one. To me you'd have to go after the good backups out there in LA (Bernier), Vanc (Luongo or Schneider), Nash (Pickard and others in their loaded system), Buffalo (Enroth) or something like that. It may be a way to unload some money, but those guys will cost you some huge picks and players alike. Might be worth it looking at your gt pipeline right now.

Im definitely not going to argue hockey with you about hockey because Im a casual fan. As for Marty I personally think he is the best GT ever but maybe that is b/c Im a Devils fan and do not follow closely at all (BTW I like Col they are the team I root for out of the West every year). Maybe Im reading what you wrote wrong but I do believe Marty is the all time leader in Wins. Marty has 105 more wins in only 160 more games. They both played 19 seasons so if you avg it out Marty only played on avg 8 more games a year.

That sounds interesting but did Marty get 105 shoot out victories? I don't know how many he has or how many less wins he would have but I cant see that being that big in favor or against him. Couldn't the argument be made that Marty has played many more games during the new scoring rules which made it easier to score? I dont remember when but I do remember espn discussing all the rule changes to make hockey have more scoring. That was definitely in the past 10 years or so and Roy retired 9 years ago.

GT is too weak, not to mention their D in front of Marty. They have to win on the relentless fore check and on O, which NJ has never done yet. So yah, I have HUGE doubts. I don't think they stand a chance vs LA, but NYR is a rival so anything can happen there, and the Caps aren't complete either but playing exceptional under Hunter. The yotes are a COMPLETE surprise to me. I thought they'd actually miss the playoffs, but Smith is the reason they're there and still alive. If Vrbata comes alive and Doan picks it up they stand a shot, but I just can't see it. Seeing Bryzgolav's fall off since leaving Phoenix and Smith's resurgence I have to completely buy into their coaching and style of play, but then again that was their first playoff series wins EVER in Zona.
Should be fun though.

I think the goaltending is fine. Brodeur played really well against the Flyers and the relentless forecheck is what provides the offense. And the defense is clearly not the defense of past teams but they've really pulled it together.

We disagree then bc Marty is really slow and gets lost more than I even saw in the past out there in and around his crease. Philly was a mess in this series and thought they'd walk over you bc they handled the Pens. The intensity was way down for this one and the Devs were smart NOT to get them riled up too. Great series overall for the Devs, and I have been impressed by their coaching as well. He's been making some fine adjustments and keeping his team's energy steady and has helped mold Kovi's overall game into more a parise style which is a huge improvement. Zajac back has been HUGE too.

Coming in waves against the D and Henrik I think they can. Add in the rather awesome D the devils have had. A rag-tag group pf guys but my goodness, shut down the flyers. This will be fun.
I can't see it being in five, but we're on the opposite side of the fan spectrum so why not.

The games will be tough but I just think the Rangers will have enough each game to pull it out.
And the amount of Ranger fans in Newark will be huge too, its almost like playing every game at home.

Still by far the best ritual in sports is the end series hankshake by the teams.
They fight and claw and hate eachother all series but when it ends they show that they are all a brotherhood and put everything aside and pay respect to eachother.
Hockey players are the coolest athletes in sports.
Both on and off the ice.

You do realize the Devs have 3 scorers in the top 30 in the NHL this year in scoring, guess how many the Rangers have? 1
Also, add in the rivalry nature of this HUGE series and I can't believe you honestly think this goes only 5, AND IN YOUR FAVOR. Both coaches have been impressive, both goalies usually stout (adv NYR), but offensively the devils were the highest ranked offensive team in the playoffs until LA just edged them tonight with their 4 goal outburst. Bottom line is that the Devs also are NOT top heavy with a top line, as both the Parise and Kovy line are incredibly dangerous. NY was lucky to be able to focus on clear top lines with both Ott and Washington, here you just can't.
For me it'll be awesome to watch two of my favorite two-way players battle in Cally and Henrique.
This series goes AT LEAST 6, and I do pick NYR but wouldn't be surprised with any big rivalry. NJ is due to beat them in the playoffs too, but I just can't pick 50 year old Marty the stat whore over Henrik in the end. The two teams that most surprised me thus far are the yotes and NJ, but I fully expect both to bow out this round. NJ has a MUCH better shot in the end in my mind, but it's the ECF/WCF so it'll be crazy entertaining on the way.

So the head-to-head on NHL.com seems a bit off to me. The Devils get the edge in offense, and the Rangers get the edge on defense, goaltending, and coaching.
The defense, I understand though I think that's going to be pretty close in regards to this series. The goaltending is a given. Lundqvist is up for Vezina and MVP. The coaching though? I get that Torts is up for the Jack Adams but Deboer has been great. So has Larry Robinson and Adam Oates. But to have a team that had been so grounded in the trap style bust out the way have this year, and how good they've been as of late, I don't think the edge should be going to the Rangers there.

While I see your point, I agree with them on this one. Torts has been setting up for this all year, rested his gt through the year (least games started in career as a starter) and has a Cup and many Cup runs as well in his history. Db not so much and two series doesn't even the score that quickly...especially since one was against shitty Florida and the other against an AWFUL GT in "the universe". They will surely be very hard pressed to score as easily on this D and GT versus Philly. The devs must beware the same fate Philly had after lighting up a shitty goalie against Pitt, as now it'll be MUCH harder to score. Yet the rivalry will help out a ton, not to mention a pretty solid offense.
Bottom line, should be a great series but I do see where they are coming from on all angles with that write up on the series.

God damn do the Rangers take it for their goalie.
Tough loss, but the Devils seemed to be controlling the tempo for most of the game. When it mattered, they faltered. That's been the classic make up of this team.

We've seen #8 seeds pull the occasional upset, but I can't recall one ever being this dominant.
I'm with newport king, I don't think either the Devils or Rangers stand a chance if LA keeps up this pace.

How many 8 seeds have actually got further then the first round upset of a #1?

It happens more often than you think, more in the NHL than any other sport I'd speculate. Easily more than the NBA, the only other sport that really goes 8 deep in each conf.
Recent memory brings me to the 2006 Edmonton Oiler's run as an 8 seed to the Stanley Cup Final with old man Roloson. If not for him being injured in Game 1 of the final, they probably would have won it all too, as it still went 7 games with the likes of Ty "fucking" Conklin and Jussi "who" Markkanen up against Cam Ward. It's amazing it was still so close in the end.
