And wow. Nashville is playing a hell of a game.

So as much as the officiating has been dreadful, the Devils aren't taking advantage of their chances. They need to simplify their game. Stop with the no look passes. They haven't worked all this series.

I think that they will win at home. I don't know if they have the make up that they had when they were down 3-1 to the Flyers in the past. But, I'm not losing hope.

And God, I would love to resign Kovalchuk. He's played his heart out in this series. He's been the best player on the Devils.

Fuck my life. I'm still going to the game Thursday and I'll be going crazy rooting on the Devils. But this team just dug itself too big a hole.

We've been in this situation before. Yeah, it's a different make up of players, but so what. Win at home on thursday and get the ball rolling. Come out flying, like we did tonight, and keep at it. It could be the last game, even more incentive to go all out.

And, hit some fuckign flyers please. At the end of this game we just gave up. I wanted a scrum to happen so the emotion would carry over to the next game. Oh well.

They play Marty too much. He's putting up a 2.98 and a .886 in this series.

The guy has played over 70 games every single year since 1997-98 (with the exception of 2008-09, when he was hurt). Three of the last 4 years he's played 78, 77, and 77 games, and he's turning 38 in two weeks. With all the mileage he has already, that's just too many games to be playing a guy in his late 30s.

He's played over 63,000 minutes in his career. And that's not even including the playoffs, where he's played another 11,000 minutes.

Spend a little money and get a backup goaltender Lou. For the love of Mary....

Notes on NHL Attendance/Ratings this year (http://www.fromtherink.com/2010/4/20/1432444/2009-2010-nhl-attendance):

Sports Business Daily reported year-end attendance numbers and found that overall attendance was down 2.2 percent from 2008-2009, with the biggest drops coming in Phoenix, Anaheim and Colorado. Attendance was down in 17 of 24 U.S. Markets this season, but television ratings were up in 17 of 24 U.S. markets

Atlanta, Florida, and Tampa saw ratings increases of 43%, 66% and 22% respectively which sounds impressive. However the total number of households watching per game for the three teams combined is only 27,500, or less than eleven of the other nineteen teams responding. The three teams have the three smallest television audiences in the NHL. However, the increase should be something to note, especially for Atlanta who saw a 21% increase in ratings last season. Any ratings traction at all is a positive sign for teams in non-traditional markets and Tampa should be able to leverage the excitement of Steven Stamkos for next season.

Sidney Crosby continues to be ratings gold in the NHL. The Penguins are once again the number two team in local ratings behind the Buffalo Sabres, and they lead the American NHL in local households per game at 93,095, remarkable considering that they are 20/22 in market size.

Also (http://puckthemedia.wordpress.com/2010/04/20/versustsn-tout-big-ratings-gains/)

VERSUS’ first five nights of Conference Quarterfinal round coverage averaged a .6 HH rating and 543,000 viewers making it the highest-rated and most-watched start to the postseason on cable since 2002. The HH rating and average viewership is up 50 percent and 21 percent, respectively, as compared to VERSUS’ first five nights of last year’s postseason (.4 HH rating and 447,000 viewers). Additionally, the start of the 2010 Playoffs is the most-watched among all key male demos on cable since 2002 with each of the demos showing viewership increases over last year: Men 18-34 (up 6%), Men 18-49 (up 8%) and Men 25-54 (up 18%).

All 23 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs games played through Monday night were sold out. In fact, eight teams managed to squeeze in more fans than their buildings’ respective published seating capacities. Averaging 18,720 fans per game, these NHL Playoffs so far are playing to 101.9 percent capacity.

If the jackass blocking Millers' view in the crease had closed his fucking legs, the puck would have not gotten in.

Purely not the Shame's fault, if you're in the crease, protect the net or get the fark out.

Manufactured "controversy". Ovechkin ALWAYS flies around like a maniac when he comes out on the ice pre game, and that kid was right in front of the bench.

@NateEwell had some great points

Fact - kid was in the way and shouldn't be there. Ovi did what he always does and Mtl shouldn't put anyone in front of our bench.

1) Kid shouldn't stand in front of our bench 2) guarantee he's bragging to friends about having snow sprayed by Ovi

As anything involving Ovechkin and Crosby et al., it comes down to how you feel about him. If you hate him already, you think he's an asshole, if you think he's great, he did nothing wrong.

Similar thing just happened with Laperriere of Philadelphia. He's going to probably miss the rest of the playoffs with bleeding on the brain. He said from now on he's going to wear a visor. Brooks Laich took a puck off the face in practice a few weeks ago in practice and he missed a few games. I would definitely wear a visor if I were a player, no question.

I remember Colin White took a puck to the eye and there was talk of him never playing hockey again. Hell, even having protection around the ears is a good idea.

When I was younger I was playing street hockey outside of my house with a friend. We were using one of this shitty orange pucks and he took a shot and it hit a crack and flew up and hit me in the eye. Broke a whole bunch of blood vessels and my eye was crimson red. Had to stay in the hospital for a few days because they were worried that I may have bleeding behind the eye.

That was a very iffy call. You can be in the crease and all, but you can't prevent the goalie from making a save.

I'm glad they made that call which I think was the right call.

It was just last year when the Devils played Carolina Brodeur got bumped into so much and nothing was called.

These refs were good.

Definitely a bummer, but not completely unexpected. Lack of depth at C was a problem all year. Pittsburgh wins because they have the best group of C's in the league, so they can get away with mediocre wingers. I'm not sure you can get away with having great wings, and mediocre C's. After Backstrom, there's nothing there. Maybe Perreault can solve that next year, but the jury's still out. And there's nothing really available in Free Agency, other then Plekanec, who someone's going to throw a prohibitive amount of money at.

No offense from the back line either. Corvo didn't really give much from there, and I was really hopeful they would have tried to get someone like Kubina from Atlanta, who would have been a perfect fit from this team. That's a big part of the reason the PP went something like 1-35 in the series, and why I hated the matchup with MTL from the start. It was just a perfect storm of playing a team that was solid defensively, and had great special teams, that ended up grinding out wins from a team that couldn't get big goals from anyone, combined with bad coaching (lack of adjustment, not scratching Tomas Fleischmann until Game 7 and continually giving him more ice time than Eric Fehr).

I give MTL all the credit in the world. Their strategy of "get one or two early and hold on for dear life" ended up working out pretty well for them. They're going to give Pittsburgh a lot of trouble.

The only thing I can do to keep myself thinking positive is to look at this as our version of The Miracle on Manchester.

Halak was a freaking beast.

So what goalie will the caps go after in the off season?

Don't think they will/need to go after one. Theo's off the books, and Neuvirth, Holtby and Varlamov are still babies. Its not Varly's fault the offense turned into mud.

As for the Avs, surely I would have loved to see a crazy unexpected run in the playoffs, but injuries and depth caught up to them. The kids played their hearts our, Anderson stood on his head and Sacco did a great job but they just hit a wall of injuries and talent on SJ. Once they lost Hejduk on top of Mueller and Jones, there were just too many offensive holes to fill.

Colorado will drop a lot of defensive dead weight this year and hopefully will add some good stay at home D via FA or trade. Clark, Salei, Foote on D, Budaj at G and Tucker/Svatos on O will all surely clear over 16 million in cap space and make the Avs big buyers this year. I hope they shop smart and look for role players (Yelle signed again on the cheap wouldn't be a bad thing) and physical shut-down D. We have PLENTY of offensive puck moving d coming up soon in Cohen, Barrie (WHL defensive player of the year), Shattenkirk and Elliott. So much that moving Liles or pref Cumiskey is in the near future. Kyle makes so many mistakes and bad judgement errors it's unreal....not to mention getting knocked off pucks with a brisk wind.

For once, I'm actually looking forward to reading Abel To Yzerman today

Why aren’t I as nervous as I should be, with the Wings down 0-2? I’ll answer that one: because they’re a better team than the Sharks and because Nabokov has shown me nothing. The only advantage San Jose’s demonstrated has been the two-man variety, and it won them both games.

Who is going to step up tonite? Nick Lidstrom, Pavel Datsyuk and Hank Zetterberg. Because it’s what they do.

What happens now? Wings win tonite. What happens Thursday. Wings win then too bitch.

And then? Well we’ll just see won’t we.

All I really know is this: 1:19 seconds, plus the officials, did the Wings in on Thursday. The officials, hired and directed by Little Gary Bettman, violated Detroit again on Sunday. Will they pull the same tricks at the Joe? Most likely. But desperation has always bred success in Detroit so I’m saying they’ll win in spite of another obvious shaft job. And then they’ll win again in Game 4. This series goes back to NoCal tied up, and it’s not because of Jebus or providence or puppies or hookers on fire trucks. It’s because the Wings do well when they’re pissed and that they most definitely must be.

On the other hand, the NBA playoffs have been utter shit, with 3 of the 4 2nd round series in sweeps, and the "marquee" matchup turning into dogshit as well as LeBron James just seems like he can't be bothered to keep playing.

But yet the dogshit NBA playoffs get far more attention than the NHL playoffs.

100% agreed.

NBA interest is completely manufactured by ESPN at this point (Los Angeles not withstanding, where the NBA is #1).

In Boston for example, the Bs are doubling up the Cs in ratings, or so I've heard.

If you look at the state of interest in the NBA it's dangerously low right now. The teams are going to collectively lose half a billion dollars this year. The league is in serious trouble.

The NHL still has a lot of financial and interest problems, but it's at least trending upward.

I think that in time you may see the LA Kings have a resurgance. They have a good young team that is only going to get better. I tend to think that if you're in a city and a local team gets hot, you're going to see a spike in ratings and revenue.

But to ESPN, it sucks. I was watching ESPN News (which is the only ESPN thing I watch besides Pardon the Interuption and Around the Horn) and the mispronounced Brian Gionta's name. Ok. I know that hockey players sometimes have tougher names to pronounce, but come on. If they had heard anything regarding him they could have said it right. Hell, just say it how it reads. As someone that worked tonight while watching the game I have to say this thread is hilarious. Good call Kev!

Boston played a good game, but it came down to heart, and this team has heart like I havent seen in a Flyers hockey team in a long time. It takes major balls to come back from 3-0 in a Game 7.

What I found funny was this. Today I was listening to WIP and they had said the most heartbreaking Bruins loss before this series was a Game 7 vs. Montreal. Boston was up 1-0 with 2 minutes left and took a too many men on the ice penalty. Montreal tied it with a minute left and won in OT. All they said was how do you make a mistake that stupid in Game 7 of a playoff. Then tonight we see history repeat itself as they lose on a goal from a power play from too many men on the ice with less then 10 minutes left in the 3rd of a Game 7.

That was one of the best hockey games Ive ever seen. This next series should be equally as good.

Montreal looked like a team that was tired. Philadelphia looked like a team who was riding the high of just completing one of the most amazing, if not the most, comeback in hockey history.

I expect Montreal to look a lot stronger in game two.

If not, this could be a really short series.

I expect Montreal to play a lot better, but the thing that should concern Habs fans is the Flyers using their size to camp in front of Halak, and on the opposite side, to jam up the middle.

I'm not sure the Habs have the size to match up, and if not, that's going to kill a lot of their offensive game.

That's why it's such a different ball game then playing the Pens or Caps, even though the Pens and Caps have more skill.

It was actually 3-2 in the Pens series, but I was thinking similarly reading some of that.

Also, I think the Canadiens lost 6-2 or something like that in the first game of the previous series. It's far from over.

Yea nobody said it was over. I just think the Flyers match up alot better with Montreal then Pitt or Washington did. Those are speed and finesse teams playing a speed and finesse team.

The Flyers basically came out and just pushed them around all over the ice.

That's big for the Flyers. They've been playing great without them and now they get better.

I think Montreal looks tired. Kind of like the past two series really took it out of them. Meanwhile, the Flyers are just riding the wave of momentum they got after coming back 3-0. I hope Montreal get's their shit together, if for anything, to make this series more exciting. I'd love three straight game sevens.

And oh, Chicago is clinching tomorrow. That team is playing awesome.

The NHL has to be loving these potential matchups for the Finals. You've got the Blackhawks, one of the Original Six, from a big market, breaking a long drought of not making the finals. And they'll be paired up with two teams with two of the most rabid fan bases in sports: either the Flyers, or the Canadiens.

And these have been good playoffs so far with close matchups and dramatic games, not like the dogshit NBA playoffs.

What a heartbreaking loss. :(

Great game though.

In a sense, because it was so wide open, but it was hideous hockey.

Ugly goaltending, and uglier defense on both sides.

Flyers definitely can't win this series if that's how these games are going to go...plays right to the Blackhawks' strengths. They need much better puck control. Way too sloppy.
