I know it's a shirt season and all but it's only been what 6-8 games ?

They were 1-5 when I wrote that, 5 game loosing streak. They won last night (5 goals in the 3rd) and need a win streak now.

They give Jersey quite a run for their money in the playoffs last year and I really see a big upside coming from the Panthers. I wouldn't worry too much about everything. (I say this knowing that the South East has gotten to be a much more competitive division).

Not a bad day for him at all. This Lightning team is looking to be quite the problem for anyone in the East.
Spy I am talking to you. That major penalty was some straight bullshit on backes. That call single handily ruined the outcome.
I doubt we would of won the way we were playing that 3rd period but we were going to at least push ot.

The Islanders are looking a lot better than I thought they would this year too. I have a feeling they'll cool off a bit soon but they definately aren't as easy to play against as they used to be. Not that the Devils ever played all that well against them.

oh they have plenty of talent, but most of it is young and will surely fall off a little
yet their glaring hole is in net, and unless almost 40 year old Nabakov keeps playing like he's 30, this thing will hit some major bumps in the road, unless the kids just pick it up to score more?
and let's be honest, that's already happening already as Nabakov hasn't been that good but the Isle are scoring in bunches.

they won't even reward our top player and hardest worker Ryan O'Reilly with a good new contract to set a standard for the team
instead the shelled it out for guys like hunwick, zanon and ej...mind you by shelling out I mean lesser contracts to just GET the team to the salary floor AFTER the adjustment

Apparently the Devils are worried about the injury to Zubrus and decided to pick up Ponikarovsky from Winnipeg for basically nothing (7th round draft pick). I like this. I was sad when he went to Winnipeg but the Devils were waiting on Parise and they didn't want to keep him in limbo. But he played great for the team down the stretch and was key on their drive to the cup. Happy to have him back.

Will he ever be the same???????
the guy will surely be ok in a little time. he got up a few seconds after being dinged and skated off himself and has no history of concussion issues...yet
what do you think about the hit?
pretty clean to me, as he even seemingly pulled up a bit. still, the guy was clearly not aware of the hit coming, but at least it wasn't a crazy follow through, lifting of the elbow or leaving his feet. the league called it clean, but they suck at calling these things in both directions. the players will always get hurt out there, but to me Olver and other have to respect their fellow players a little more and that's a spot clean or not where you hold up even more.
on the other side of it Olver may be pretty small, but that's his role too, so it's not easy to just NOT play your role and people would use this to their advantage and put themselves in positions like these. similar to Landeskog's concussion he's just coming back from, or even Hossa, players now trust they can't be hit hard and or are simply used to playing where hitting isn't the norm on most plays with these kids who have grown up with a much more fluid based game and get a rude awakening in the NHL.
I say legal, but still easily a hit someone could pull up on. Nothing like Hall's recent kneeing or the elbow/punch to Hossa.
I think that straight elbow to the chin was a bit dirty. And with the guy not even expecting it at all made it worse.
In all honesty when I first saw it the hit itself doesn't really look that brutal. Its just with taresenkos eyes rolling in the back of his head that make it scary. He just got caught right on the button with an elbow blindsided.
The blues better get some major payback next time they play the avs.

ok, he never went at him in a bad way, and what is a "straight elbow"?
the blues better not be stupid out there, bc Bordy crushes everyone he fights and even stew backed down with him after verbally fighting on the bench, and bordy had 16 stitches in his right hand from destroying someone THROUGH their helmet
when asked what stew said to him and what he was thinking almost fighting with the stitches he remarked, "I still have my left hand and hell, I'll still throw the right....instant blood for the fans"
seriously though, no way should this turn ugly as it wasn't a dirty hit in any way, just caught the kid in the right spot yet still could have held up more as I stated earlier. if it gets ugly it better be within the code, no more Steve Moore in Vancouver bullshit.

it's amazing how bad our GM is...and the coach...and the owner
they seriously were awful with the heart and soul of this team last year and hardest working Av for three...yet everyone will kiss Duchene's ass for doing it for one month after three years of coasting and being AWFUL last season
no doubt ROR just wanted some love and or a simple sit down to negotiate, but as only the Avs can do, they pissed off even the most dedicated and heart driven players...see Lappy, Bruno and so many more. I'm not a fan of how Anderson tanked it after the dispute, but he too said the org just told him take it or leave it and wouldn't even talk to him or his agent after pretty much single handily getting the Avs to their last playoff despite AWFUL coaching and young team with no direction. Serious overpayment and they were only outdone in their terribleness by the quite possibly the worst GM in the league, Feaster of Calgary. Yet in the end, we paid ANYWAY and he drove our price for ROR through the roof. I'm still ok with the Avs keeping him at a cost versus loosing him for two more draft picks. Sick of this decade long rebuild under a cheap flag and shit owner Kroenke. So sick of it and in the end it keeps costing us more despite their efforts. Anderson there would have cost some money, but we gave up a TON to get Varly and he's been way worse since here compared to Anderson who would have only cost a little more money. Now ROR has a crazy elevated price tag. Good job boys!

Radar was playing first or second line minutes last year when he put up his best season. That isn't happening this year. They are paying their 3rd line center an average of 5 mil a year. I don't like the move at all, they should have let him go. They could have packaged the pick they got with something for a scoring winger or a d-man that doesn't look like a traffic cone.

well there were and will be plenty of time to get a good d man...we just don't pay the money to get one worth his salt versus going cheap all the time for 3rd pairing types like Hunwick and Zannon...some aren't even NHL quality on a decent D level team. However, with ROR, you have a classic 2nd center, better than Duchene even with how he is playing right now in sooooo many areas of the ice and the hardest working forward out there day in and day out. He was a HUGE part of Lando's success (the same goes the other way too) and he should be reunited with him IMMEDIATELY and Staz play mostly third line duty.
Still, with three at least very solid centers in different ways, you don't need to wear down and or lean on one that much...you split the minutes based on need and or abilities. ROR's line if with Lando would be your grind, dirty and power based goals and top level D inclusive of solid hitting and forecheck. The Duchene line with PAP would be the highest skill set line offensively, especially if they can focus on it more now. The Staz line has to be the blended type line of both, as Staz can be a top level playmaker and Jones simply needs to wake up and find the back of the net.
Taking Mitchell off the center now will put him with either of the Staz and ROR line and he'll add a TON to either line in terms of effort and D. He'd also be a great PK specialist, allowing others to focus more on O, and if out there with ROR or Staz, the double center approach often very advantageous with important face offs offensively and defensively.
So here's how I see it working out best.
McGinn/Duchene/PAP
Lando/ROR/Mitchell
Hejduk/Staz/Jones

I really thought it was coming to an end last night.
5 of the next 6 on the road. It would take all 6 to beat the old mark.
It's kind of weak using the last 6 games from last season, but, whatever. It's still fun.
It's not quite the McGuire/Sosa HR record chase that brought fans back to baseball... but it's something to get hockey talked about on sportscasts that would otherwise overlook the entire sport, especially after the lockout.
I've actually been able to talk regular season hockey with people down here, which usually never happens.
I got my chick to go to two minor league games with me so far this year. Now that she's seen the game "live", she gets into watching on TV a little more. Still doesn't understand it all... but we're working on that.
My youngest son's also shown a recent interest. Not that there's any ice down here, but he's not bad on roller blades, so we'll see what we can do. There's sometimes "open skating" after the minor league games, so we may start with that, but we'd have to move to have any chance of finding a regular rink, let alone a team or league.

If last night doesn't show how inept Colorado's coach is in front of a great effort and solid goaltending, I don't know what to tell you. Kroenke needs to cut this ass loose. Up 2-1 mid-way through the 3rd against a team 20-0-3 and on the power play, what does he do? Oh yah, the CLASSIC 5 forward power play! Oh yes, a shortie happened and they tied it...then we went full on turtle shell and of course gave up a last minute goal for the loss.

There's a reason they don't want Marty to retire...yet you do have options I think can't be worse...but hardly an endorsement. Should have moved Parise for a few picks or a future #1 GT...Bernier, Pickard...and plenty more were out there. Luongo and Emery too. there have been GT's available, but the Marty factor probably helps and hurts at the same time.

I liked Gaborik a lot when he first was with the Wild. He went to New York and would just disappear at times. He couldn't handle pressure and I hope he works out in Columbus cause if he doesn't get off to a good start early it's gonna break his confidence even more. And the Rangers got good players for him.
I like what the Devils did with getting Sullivan. Lou likes bringing players back and hopefully he finds his spark again. The guy can skate but never seemed to gel in Phoenix. Hopefully being in the thick of a playoff birth will give him a boost. He seems really happy to be coming back to Jersey.

I think the blame for the Rangers falls on Torts. They weren't a team that rolled 4 lines regularly and I think that hurt them.
And yes, Sullivan is old and I would have liked the Devils to pick up a younger scorer but I think the chemistry is there with the team and Lou didn't want to move the players that would need to be moved to get a top 6 forward. Though they're going through a rough patch (at a terrible time) I think they'll get it back.

My pick at #2 is Nate MacKinnon. Strong two-way player with both speed and power games. The crazy thing with the 2/3 picks for me here is they play together currently. Sick if anyone could keep them together like the Sedin twins. And oddly enough, Drouin reminds me of a craftier version of Kane and Nate very similar to Toews. Both seem awesome and NHL ready (more so Nate), but how they will fare apart will be interesting.

Not possible monk. If they finish dead last, they can only draft either first or second. You can only fall one spot max if a team wins the lottery out of position. It then slots everyone behind them one spot down up until their slotted spot. Meaning, if the 3rd worst wins the lottery, they pick first, the 1 slot still picks second, and the 2 slot picks 3rd...from there 4-30 pick in their respective slots.
Even though the last pick gets the highest chance of #1, they are surely not favored over the field as they only get a 25% chance of drafting first. All playoff teams after that make up the next 75%. Not a true fan of the middle pack even getting a SHOT at #1 and how the NHL can fix things way too much now if they dare, but I wouldn't be opposed to this system for let's say the bottom 5 teams/then do it again for the next 5 and so one until you get to the playoff slots.

Tavares and the Isle REALLY stepping up tonight and locking in their spot and turning some heads by absolutely taking it to the Leafs! After only 2 periods they are outshooting the Leafs 34 to 10! They held the home team to 5 shots each period and if not for Nabokov sucking, my biggest fear for this team and their biggest hole, they'd be up 4-0.
Tavares in on 3 of 4 goals thus far with 2 goals and a primary assist (+3).

Crosby and his team were going to be good. How is that MVP worthy? JT's team was picked to be a bottom 5 team. They may get as high as the 5th seed in the playoffs. He dominated in Toronto, in a game that meant a lot and when they were down 2-0. Coach Cap should get trophy consideration too.

not to mention they play an AWFULLY bad and slumping Preds team at home followed up by a road game against a Stars team that will surely be eliminated shortly before said game and they'll be very deflated. Columbus has exactly the same rundown but flipped and they come in tied. So wow, how f'n odd is that? I think that ROW thing and timing (Dallas NOT eliminated when they face the Columbus) will hurt the Blue Jackets plenty....that and they have almost zero experience in these things unlike the ginger fucks.

I'd almost call Ott the fav since they got their big threat on D back and Anderson too. Hell, I picked them and it has nothing to do with my heart, just I see them beating up an overachieving Hab team. Price has looked f'n putrid of late.

I also disagree on the Rangers and Kings losing. I think both will move on, yet the Blues may pull something out of their A to get it going with so much talent and a system built for the playoffs. if only he could shoot on Austrian goalies all year in the NHL, too bad they don't even make the AHL teams as backups, much less 4th lines for their skaters. they are playing just not to get bumped from the championship circuit they somehow snuck into
