He's such a dirty player.

I was watching the devils game the other night against the lightning. There were a lot of fights and during one the tampa player stumbled to his knees, just because the ice was bad. The devils player waited till he was on his feet and not stumbling till he started fighting again. That's classy. Carcillo is just an asshole. Fuck him and fuck Philly.

I didn't see the devils game tonight cause I was out, but I'll catch the replay. I checked espnNews and they had nothing on the bottom ticker with the breaking news. Yet they had that Allen Iverson scored 10 points...

Can't agree more on Carcillo. He's worse than a goon, bc he has no code and or class at all. He cheap shots people all over the fucking ice and then acts the bitch on a clean, average fucking hit there. The only thing I could say is Bradley should have realized who it was and got ready faster, in the least get ur hands up. He literally sucker punched the kid and it was sad. I can't say I'm not used to it from his days in Phoenix, not to mention the Flyers, as it's their dirty style for years. When the fuck are they going to go a different route? I'm sick of seeing them turn every game into a brawl when they lose, and every game they win they cry like bitches for calls.

Oh and on the espn comment, what else would you expect? Fuck them and their lack of hockey coverage, but Bettman burned plenty of bridges there I'm sure. He's an asshole of supreme levels. I met him at a restaurant up in North Jersey during the lockout, and to say he's a bitch is putting it lightly.

To me, this is the record I give Marty more credit for bc the shootout/no ties thing over the past few years didn't assist him here. Do I think he would have beat the record eventually as the Devil's overuse him yearly, sure, but not when he did. I still don't put him in the top 3 all-time, top 5 perhaps. Trust me he's top shelf over the career, but to me he's still on the fringe of top 5.

It's very interesting and confusing to me that a team that employs Pronger, Carcillo, Cote, Asham, and Ian Laperriere would hire a coach that hates fighting.

Well I'll at least defend Lappy. This guy has a code and it showed in the "fight" with Mcleod when the Avs played them, not to mention every game when he played in Colorado. Cross him, no matter how big you are, be ready to square off though bc he's fearless. His nose is proof of that.

Miller was epic...he had at least 3 guys looking at the ceiling last night. Very glad he's going to be our goaltender on the olympic team.

Just felt like, even early in the day, it was going to be one of "those" games, between Varlamov not being able to go, Perrault getting food poisoning, and Matt Bradley's kid being born.

That Tallinder goal was disgraceful. Three guys standing around him, he gets off a shot driving to the net, and puts in his own rebound. BLEH

Miller's glove saves last night were tremendous.

He is going to need some rest. He played 76 games in the 07-08 season and that didn't work out well. Lalime is not a good backup. Plus this is the Olympic year, and he is going to be the starter for Team USA.

Buffalo needs a quality backup goalie. Is Enroth ready? Probably not.

Oh, and Tyler Myers is a helluva player. The amount of ice time he gets as a 19 year old is crazy.

While I agree on the instigator rule being used in awful bullshit situations, we all have had people turn into the boards as being hit. Sorry Mudo, he knew he'd be hit and was purely STUPID in the situation. It's one of those plays you see 10 times a game and it's never easy to rule on. Sure it's a 2 in the end, but did he go in there to board him, I doubt it. Also, if it wasn't Koci and Green didn't decide to turn and look at the boards (which I don't understand), it may have very well been let go. If they even thought he was trying to injure, the Caps would have been pissed the rest of the game.

Now on to Ovechkin, dirty pussy hits all over the ice. He tried to go knee on knee with Wilson TWICE, BLATANTLY. And every time he gets hit, meaning legally checked, he waits until the play moves past him and then hits the guy from behind and NEVER gets called on it. Seriously, he's getting worse every time I see him play. Turning into the new Crosby being a fucking baby on the ice thinking he can't be touched and won't be a target of a tough checking game. If your going to play as physical a game as he does, especially after plays and in dirty situations, you Damn well better be willing to drop the gloves once in a while. He clearly will not....which is something at least Crosby has done.

I also give Erskine plenty of credit for coming to his teammate's defense, but your top players were anything but "run" throughout the game. So much so it's a big factor in why the Avs sucked ass last night and that game was incredibly boring.

they are bringing up an interesting discussion during the intermission of the sabres game tonight. who is the top player of the past decade in the NHL?

harry neil went with niklas lidstrom - scored his 1,000th point, multiple norris trophies, 2 stanley cups, and a conn smythe.

mike robitaille went with martin brodeur - multiple vezinas, two stanley cups, tieing (maybe breaking) shutout record, 4 40 win seasons, etc.

rob ray went with joe sakic - forgot exactly what was said but if you follow hockey you know how great he is.

who do you go with? i'm leaning towards lidstrom but i'm not totally sure.

I'm biased as hell since I used to play goal many years ago, but I think this has to be Brodeur. NHL goalie is easily the toughest job in sport and he's completely dominated and has continued to even after Patrick Roy left the league, he just blew right by him and wrote over his name in the record books. It's really amazing.

Nope, ur INSANELY biased. Every review and rundown of goalies by experts that have watched the game much longer than any of us usually have him at 3-5. Sorry keithy, most unbiased fans, players, experts don't even agree with you.

Also, as for player of the decade, Stark makes soooo many unfounded claims about Marty. First off, we all know how much the lack of ties will distort the stats of a goalie, let alone the era they play. Not only did/has Marty played most of his career during the dead puck era, his team played it best and hence his stats have been influenced. Also, goalies (like it or not) are judged based on what he had around him in terms of coaching, players (O and D) along with the interp of the rules at the time. Marty has often been overused in during the reg season and they were hurt in the playoffs bc of it. I can only assume this will again be the case as he hardly sits. Sure he may act like he wants to play, but a good coach makes his goalie sit and keeps them as fresh as possible for the LONG playoff run. The bottom line, other goaltenders have all but single handily won Cups and awards, Marty is not that guy. Is he an all-time great, sure but not top. No way.

Its hard to top a power play that can throw out Markov, Ovechkin, Semin, Malkin and Kovalchuk all at the same time. That should be illegal. And that's not even mentioning guys like Gonchar, or Datsyuk, or Radulov.

I look at that defense, though, and go "oof", especially since I see the name Dmitri Kalinin on there instead of Sergei Zubov.

Zubov is dying alive at this point, and is literally being held together with duct tape and glue, but i'd rather have his walking corpse on my blue line over Kalinin.

Team Canada

Goalies: Martin Brodeur, Marc-Andre Fleury, Roberto Luongo

Defensemen: Dan Boyle, Drew Doughty, Duncan Keith, Scott Niedermayer, Chris Pronger, Brent Seabrook, Shea Weber

Forwards: Patrice Bergeron, Sidney Crosby, Ryan Getzlaf, Dany Heatley, Jarome Iginla, Patrick Marleau, Brenden Morrow, Rick Nash, Corey Perry, Mike Richards, Eric Staal, Joe Thornton, Jonathan Toews

Thoughts:

No Mike Green? Joke.

Scott Niedermayer....really? I mean....really?

Surprised, but not really shocked one of the two Calgary guys didn't make it. Figured they were gonna take the combo from Chicago, Weber, Boyle and Pronger. Still trying to wrap my head around the Niedermayer thing, especially over Mike Green.

Eric Staal is a shocker to me, especially with the year he's had. I would have taken Jordan Staal, Vinny Lecavalier, or Brad Richards over him.

I would have taken either Morrow or Toews, but not both of them (for either Stamkos or St. Louis).

Looks like they went for a lot of famliarity, which is why they took the entire Marleau/Thornton/Heatley line and 2/3 of the Getzlaf/Perry/Ryan line.

I'm all over this. I missed the Sweden/US game, but they knocked them off 5-2 in a pretty solid showing.

I did however catch the first game with the US and Canada in the round robin game which went into and OT shootout eventually won by Canada. The US had a 4-2 lead through about 2.5 periods and pretty much blew it. They also got 2 shorties in the game, but really 3 as one even strength goal game at the end of a shorthanded stretch. I think the US kids have confidence, but they better not expect 2+ shorties this time. Yet it will help calm down they Canadian PP which is unreal outside of the US game.

What a great game the world junior championships was last night. It was another bad lead lost in the third to Canada (twice up 2 late in the third that went to OT), but this time Cambell shut the door (played awesome in relief 32/34 with one goal on the PP against he had no shot on) and the the US took our second ever gold!! 2004, 2010...the US continues to bridge that gap in programs with Canada and Russia.

The US also won the U 17 on Monday, so the Olympic win would be a HUGE cal year for the US. At this time, no US player ever won the coveted "triple gold" (Stanley Cup, World Championship and Olympic Gold), I'd love to see the world juniors added and it being made the quad gold. it was a great game, the score looks like a sound beating but it was a very close game down to the end and usa got 2 EN goals in the last minute. if i remeber correctly they failed to convert on a 5 min PP after a swede took a major penalty when the game was tied early in the third. all in all a great tournament. i would love to go to buffalo next year too.

need a little help here. for my birthday i will be getting a ryan miller olympic jersey. the only problem is both he and tim thomas wear #30. has anybody seen a roster with numbers players will be wearing? i have not been able to locate one.

i'd like to get it ordered by friday cause it takes 4 weeks to ship and i want it by the time the olympics start. thanks for any help.

Miller is the clear starter so I'd assume he gets his 30.

Although I have to say I'm not a fan of the new IOC rule enforcement and our bland retro jersey design. I do however think the Canadian jerseys are sick, and somehow they got around the rule?

i love the u.s. jerseys this year. i've been searching everywhere and can't find shit on this. there is a picture of miller at training camp wearing 30, but tim thomas also was wearing 30 when they introduced the team after the winter classic.

i also read that when two players have the same number, the older player usually gets the number out of respect. and thomas is older than miller.

I like the logo with the flag "S" better than the blocky "U S A". Just seems a little too boring and bland to me.

Canada wore freakin' GREEN uniforms during one game in the WJC, which was odd.

On Miller we have one goal if we're lucky. And yah, Duchene is pretty good but still light on D. He plays a mean speed game and backchecks fine, he just doesn't have a good grit level to his game and his positioning is still off. His recognition and ability to read plays is improving at a quick rate, but he's still only 18 for the record.

What was "pussy" about it? He dropped the gloves, and Bradley did what he was supposed to do, which was make sure Ovechkin didn't do something stupid and get hurt.

Downie is more of a pussy for trying to go after a guy after a clean hit. Ovechkin doesn't leave his feet, hits him clean with the shoulder, and Downie has the puck and his head down.

Look at the tape....Bradley comes in RIGHT AWAY.

I don't consider blatantly driving a knee into another (considerably smaller and shorter) player's knee a clean hit. He led the hit into Downie with his knee, the shoulder was secondary. All that aside, they both came out of the box talking shit and dropped the gloves, and OV visibly dropped back to let Bradley come to his rescue. I will give Ovechkin credit for at least taking off his helmet. What he did to Niittymaki later on, however, was inexcusable.

I did find Konopka embarrassing Steckel quite humorous.

I just sat here right now and watched that over and over again like the Zapruder film. Where does he "lead with his knee" on the hit? He's skates towards Downie, and hits him from an angle with his shoulder. That's not "leading with the knee" no matter what stupid Jeff Halpern tells the paper.

Furthermore, I'm supposed to feel sorry for Steve Downie for being considerably smaller and shorter than Ovechkin? The same guy that attacked at 16 year old kid? The same guy that attacked a linesman in the AHL? The same guy that almost ended Dean MacAmmond's career in a PRESEASON game? His purpose out there was to bait Ovechkin into fighting, and that's what he did.

Where does Ovechkin "visibly drop back"? He's taking off his helmet and gloves, Downie does the same, and by that time, Fehr had gotten off the ice in the change for Bradley, who comes streaking into view as Downie's still taking his equipment off.

As disgusting as the hit was, the image of Tam's convulsing body laid out at center ice is incredibly frightening and something that's not easily forgettable.

Tam was taken off the ice on a stretcher and RDS is reporting that he is in stable condition at a local hospital and may have suffered only a broken jaw and concussion. The "Sporting Zone" blog at radio station Quebec 800 reports that Tam is conscious and speaking, and that team trainer Philippe Fait feared the worst when the 18-year old stopped breathing for 30 seconds.

There's a good chance he could be banned for life, and/or arrested. Not the first time he's done it either:

I like the deals Toronto made. That was a great move to dump Blake's salary on Anaheim (owed 3 each of the next two years), they get a number 1 defenceman in Phaneuf (which they sorely needed). Stajan, White and Mayers are all FA's after this year (only White is restricted). Toskala's deal is expiring after this year, and Giggy's on the hook next year for 7, but the Leafs needed him pretty badly (plus, he gets reunited with Francois Allaire).

Its good on Calgary's end too, because they get a couple big-time skill guys in Hagman and Stajan, and it was pretty obvious Phaneuf had become an albatross with the addition of Bouwmeester (not to mention the continuing rumours of stuff going on with him and Sutter).

Olli Jokinen to the Rangers in exchange for Ales Kotalik and Christopher Higgins

Bob McKenzie says "not so fast my friend!!" (http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=308565)

Sources tell TSN that while the Rangers thought they had the deal basically agreed to on Sunday night, the Flames weren't ready to pull the trigger, in part, because they felt they needed Jokinen in the lineup tonight against Philadelphia in Calgary. There are reports that Kotalik isn't prepared to waive his no-trade clause to go to Calgary but the indication is the Rangers were fully able and prepared to do this deal, but Calgary backed away at the last moment.

It is unusual, to say the least, to play players who are supposed to be part of a trade - an injury could scuttle the whole thing - but it's quite possible that's exactly what the Flames are doing and that the deal could still be resurrected after the game.

We should know more after tonight's Calgary-Philadelphia game.

I don't know what he did, but I will fully agree with you. I honestly think he lost every fight he got in when he was with the Devils.

Per Buccigross on twitter:

NBC earned a 17.6 overnight Nielsen rating for Sunday's Canada-U.S. Gold Medal men's hockey game.

Sunday’s gold medal game drew a higher overnight rating than every World Series game since 2004

AND every NBA Finals telecast since 1998, and every NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four game since at least ’98.

Puck the Media's Steve Lepore is also reporting the game drew a 33 share overall.

According to Sports Business Daily (reg. required), the Olympic Gold Medal Hockey Game drew an astronomical 17.6/33 overnight rating. This is up 46% from the 2002 USA/Canada showdown, and will very likely be the highest-rated hockey game since 1980. The share means that 1 in every 3 Americans with a TV were watching the game. This is, to put it professionally, out of this world.

The Canada/USA Olympic Men’s Hockey Gold Medal game drew a 17.6 overnight rating on NBC Sunday afternoon, up 46% from the ‘02 Gold Medal game, which featured the same two teams.

Overnight ratings for the 2006 Gold Medal game were unavailable.

Sunday’s game is on pace to finish as the highest rated hockey telecast in the United States since 1980.

To put the numbers in perspective, Sunday’s game drew a higher overnight rating than every World Series game since 2004 (including every game of Yankees/Phillies last year), every NBA Finals telecast since 1998, and every NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four game since at least ‘98.

Excluding the NFL, the 17.6 overnight for the game is the second-highest of the year for any sporting event, behind only the Texas/Alabama BCS National Championship Game in January (18.2).

Could be a nice insurance policy for them if they decide to deal Hamhuis, as has been rumored.

Chelios was picked up by ATL, guess they had to try and find someone to take Kovalchuk's cap space. Way to take a page from the Rangers play book and sign an old dude, Atlanta.

Rangers put Enver Lisn and Aaron Voros on waivers. I'm bummed about Voros, Lisin I don't really care either way.

They honored all the olympians at the Pens-Sabres game tonight and Ryan Miller easily got the loudest standing ovation. Way louder than Crosby. There were even boos (albeit lighthearted) when they showed the replay of the game winning goal from Sunday.

And 3-0. Way to be Kovi, way to be.

i love west coast games too, i pay for it in the morning but theyre great to me. i dont know what it is, just something about the different time that gives the game a cool feel to me. i love it even more with baseball when the Yankees go out to Oakland or Seattle.

I remember when I was younger, I would stay up late to watch the games and it made me happy to be allowed to stay up.

I remember vividly, for some reason, watching an Islander game when they were playing in Vancouver. I think I was sick and didn't have to go to school the next day and having that game on made me really happy.

Who knows with Waddell....the Thrashers are only like two points out of a playoff spot, but he's already traded Kovalchuk, but then he just added Chelios and Artyukhin, so it looks like they want to make a run. I just want Pavel Kubina in DC, thx.

Ponikarovsky to Pittsburgh for Luca Caputi and Martin Skoula. McKenzie says Leafs are going to try to flip Skoula today.

McKenzie called it the "Grand slam of illegal hits...charging, boarding, interference, and pre-meditated malice". Wiz also got the elbow up on him too if you watch the replay.

Of course, Wiz' reaction isn't going to help him much either (@ChrisKuc):
