Oh yes. Envelopes for insurance forms, the monthly inventory order that gets faxed, the monthly bills, reminder postcards, overdue for an appointment letters. I actually don't mind it so much, I type much faster on the typewriter than I do on the computer. I learned to type on a typewriter, and I find that I like the feel of the way the keys strike better, and I can get into a better rhythm because of the sound. It took me a bit to get used to computer keyboards.

Not at all, but when I first saw that think it looked like one our automated lab machines. Process blood, generate results... that kind of lab stuff.
I like to think of it as being really retro. And it makes it sound like I'm actually doing something when it's slow.

Thank you electronic medical records! Also, when an appointment was made the computer would automatically send out a letter as a reminder and our telephone system would call the week of to remind the patient.

In clinical research I had to use the automated and pencil and paper. Everything in research is double and triple the effort. Part of why there were never enough hours in a day and I burnt out after 9 years of intense, high demand research. I made it to the top quickly, I burnt out even quicker.

Damn, that is a side of research they never mention. Lab tech was one of my other career choices if I didn't get into DH school.

I was a medic in the army who made it up to paramedic, I had some college, and I could of been hired as a health tech. In research I had a chance to make some money, see patients which I love doing, and contribute scientifically while I completed my undergrad. I quickly rose above my peers because of my military background and competitiveness associated with that, and was making more money than those in my department with grad degrees. I could draw, process, and ship blood while many could not, I also had a background in statistics. I was the only one of my peers (just under 1000) to author (under mentorship), get funding, conduct, and analysis their own medication study.I was in love with my career and had so many bragging points but the work, 10-14 hour days, and stress was killing me. I already had depression, PTSD, and anxiety from my military times and my career made it many times worse. I am very lucky though I never made a mistake involving a patient though and thankfully.

Christ that is brutal pressure. I find the research field fascinating, but not something I think I could handle doing. There used to be a drug research lab near the community college I went to, and people would be working there way past when I left school at night (11pm sometimes). I would not be suprised to find out many of those people slept at the lab.

The laws are tough governing research. The few cases you do hear about involving research misconduct are quite the anomaly. In most cases it was me and not the physician I worked with conducting the research so I had to be sure to shield them by making everything correct so it was a lot of pressure. I would say it was more pressure than the military and I have seen some awful things while in the Army. Some of my peers survive by not taking as tough or high profile projects such as phase 2 studies, some survive because they are just better equipped to mentally, some survive by the skin of their teeth, but many do burn out and move on. I did thrive on the stress/pressure and my ego tweaking for a while though and enjoyed it.

It is amazing how differently people's bodies can react to things. I know from experience  researchers would have a field day with me because I tend to get idiosyncratic reactions to pretty much everything I've been prescribed, and if there is a bad side effect I'm most likely to get it. I can't imagine having to deal with the fallout of a research subject that is like me.

Saying I love you is not the words I want to hear from you, not that I want to boy to say but if you only knew how easssy it would be to show me how you feel
More than words is all you have to do to make it real. Then you would t have to say that you love me cause if already know.
What would you do if my heart was torn in two bore than words to show you feel that your love for me is real?
What wapuld you say if I took those words away?
Then you couldn't make things new just by saying I love you.

If this going to Run round in my head I might as well be dreaming. Run round in my head I rollercoaster for you. Time out of mind Must be heavenly. It's all enchanted and wild, It's just like my heart said It was going to be.

hello shelter folk!
What does one do with a stiff/ strained neck? Maybe it's a nerve stuck... I don't know... it just has gotten worse since yesterday and I wonder what to do...
Does heat stop it? I have a cherry pit pillow that can be heated in the microwave... maybe I should give that a try?

Yes, try heat. I have neck headaches all the time, and that's by far the best treatment.

Gentle heat, range of motion stretching, naproxin (Alive or generic), and rest. There are some muscles called paraspinal muscles, they run along the vertebral column. If you pull one of these little muscles it makes life hell. It could be the way you slept, sudden unexpected movement, or any number of insults that could of caused this. If it does not improve after a week, see your doctor. If you experience any numbness below the area of pain, see your doctor. Otherwise take at easy and watch your posture.
i saw extreme last year with living color and king's x and i wound up liking extreme the best (even tho i never heard anything past their big stuff and am a huge lc and kx fan)
anyway i get necky stiffness like once a year and it makes me all deniro-y batman where i have to turn my whole shit to look around like some kind of tough guy. but ice usually works for me, strangely enough. the body is weird.
boosterp
04-15-2009, 01:58 PM
Ice reduces swelling by reducing blood flow. It is usually good the first 48-72 hours after something like a sprained ankle. Heat increases blood flow which speeds up healing and loosens up the stiffness ao at this point I would use heat. But each person is different, heck when my upper back acts up I alternate between the heat and cool because the cool reduces some of the spasticity that makes the pain worse.
