I can't find them right now, but there were two more news clippings about it. In one, my great grandfather apparently said, "this is no place for a negro". When you think about it, "negro" probably wasn't the word he really used. My grandfather was 13 when this happened. He became the "man of the family".

I loved Grandpa very much, but he ended up being very anti black. It's not like he was a klansman or anything. He just didn't trust blacks. His wife (my Grandma) loved everyone, no matter their race. They were basically Archie and Edith Bunker. So much so that, whenever we visited them, Grandpa refused to let anyone watch "All In the Family". He knew that he was Archie, and she was Edith.

Grandpa went on to serve in the Merchant Marines during WWI. I was in the 8th grade when he died. I was very impressed by the military funeral. The guys shooting guns and stuff. Coincidentally, the flag that was draped over his casket (and presented to my Grandma) was returned to my father in the last month or two. It's the first time I've seen it since he died.

I could go on forever about this. But I won't right now. I've actually talked about much of this over the years on this board. I will leave you with this... I pic of Grandma starting a car. BTW... Grandpa never sat behind the wheel of an automobile.

I've had a recurring minor annoyance the past few months, that was a real puzzle. We have a doorbell that's hard wired. It rings downstairs. A few years ago we got a second ringer. When the first bell rings, it activates the second one by sending a radio signal to the new one upstairs. On certain nights, the upstairs bell would ring multiple random times throughout a weekend night. We knew people weren't ringing and running, because the main bell wasn't ringing.

I started to notice a pattern. Every time it happened, my next door neighbor had friends over. One night, I noticed that every time the bell rang, my neighbor's friend was getting something out of his truck or putting something back in. They are musicians, so he's constantly moving equipment. I finally figured it out. Every time the guy used his wireless door lock remote, the signal set off our doorbell.

It's not a big deal, but damn if it wasn't a brain teaser.

A coworker really freaked me out tonight. A little back story...

The guy has always freaked me out a bit. He's 49. He often has completely off the wall thoughts. I posted here once about how he told us about a chick he had been talking to online. He said she told him she was into the "vampire culture", and liked to drink human blood. Then he told us how he called the health department and said "This is going to sound crazy, but I'd like to report a vampire. Then they put me on hold for about ten minutes. When they came back, they told me there was nothing they could do". I'd love to have been in that call center when they had him on hold! So, anyway... The guy is fucked in the head.

Now for what happened tonight. It was a slow night, so most of us were just fucking around being bored and doing our own thing. He was counting his money. I stood a few feet away, playing around with my phone. I tend to not really pay attention to much of what he has to say, but I sort of caught the words "kicked out of the house". So I could pretend I was listening to him, I asked "what?". He said, "My dad. He kicked me out of the house when I was a teenager".

Keep in mind, we weren't having a conversation. This just came out of nowhere. But I decided to see where this was going. Then he said, "That's when I hooked up with a guy who liked little boys. It really messed with my head".

I looked at him. He was still looking down at the money he was counting. I put my phone in my pocket and walked away.

i havent fixed nearly as many as you but the ones i get dont seem to be older then a year or 2. i think because so many people replace their laptops more frequent then they should. the only hardware i have had to do is more of an upgrade and its upgrading ram which is simple. the hardest part is finding the best price. i had one laptop that needed a new built in wifi but it was actually easier and much more cost effective to just buy a usb wifi adapter. i want to change a laptop screen just to do it but no one i know who every asked me to fix anything ever needed that and i think most people at that point buy a new laptop. im purely a laptop only fixer!

In the past year or so, I've completely rebuilt laptops, and even experimented with soldering components on motherboards. As for parts, I get most new parts from Newegg. But with the older comps, I buy parts on eBay. On older laptops, people try to get what they can out of the parts. You can find a lot of shit dirt cheap.

BTW... Youtube is very helpful when it comes to repairing laptops. You can search for a model number, and a vague description of the problem, and find videos for damn near every hardware issue imaginable. Some are great. Many aren't. Just read the feedback on the vids.

In my years of working as a delivery driver, I've noticed a bad trend at nursing homes. They all have an alarm that beeps when I go in the front door. Yet, almost NEVER does anyone ever check to see why the door was opened. I even had to go find someone once when a very old lady sat in her wheelchair begging me to let her out the front door. In her case, the alarm was actually attached to her chair. It went off whenever she got close to the door. When I found someone, the chick rolled her eyes and said "Not her again!".

Well, the worst case scenario happened last night at a nursing home near me that specializes in Alzheimer's patients. A 74 year old woman walked out of the home, and walked on to a dark highway at 1:20AM. She was hit and killed by a Silverado. I hope they get massively sued! And I feel terrible for whoever hit the poor lady.

Yeah, I know it's probably not a great idea, but I have to clean them out after every shower, and sometimes in between.

We keep long, wooden handled "absorbent tipped applicators" on hand at work, and I've always got a pack stashed in my desk.

Mythbusters did an episode to determine if you could make a working candle from ear wax. They had some guy offering free ear cleanings to people on the show and off the street until they harvested enough. The pile they collected was fucking frightening. Especially the amount of "non-wax" stuff that was gathered. (Hair, skin cells, infected crap, and other "foreign objects")

I saw an E.N.T. doc recently (for another issue), and there doesn't appear to have been any damage done so far, so I have no immediate plans on discontinuing the habit.
