An illiterate is someone who is unable to read or write. That has nothing to do with typing errors.

I started reading this story last week and then it got picked up on gawker.

A former comedian current columbia student has gone missing and her family started a gofundme with a 150k goal to hire a private investigator/provide a reward to info leading to her. They've raised nearly 70k so far. Initially I thought wow that was kindof fast, wasnt it?

So this week some more info comes out that really strongly suggest this person took their own life. She has a history of serious mental illness, a recent suicide attempt, and left suicide notes before disappearing.

So again, isn't it a bit much to ask for 150k in public donations considering everything? I know theyre in a terrible place as a family but cmon.

sailor
04-09-2014, 06:07 AM
Haven't seen anything like that except that reports of a suicide note were denied by police.

Haven't seen anything like that except that reports of a suicide note were denied by police.

I read 'police sources' on the notes which maybe can not be strictly called suicide notes but the content is troubling.

Still, leaving the notes out, I feel like given the circumstantial evidence they're asking for 150k to essentially locate a body. Which is a terrible position to be in but I dont think it's maybe appropriate to lean on public funding for.

Obviously if someone doesn't want to donate money they dont. But with the proliferation of these requests we get into territory of talking about what they should really be used for, because the overload is detrimental to all causes.

People were writing about this a few months ago and one of the cases was this guy in a band who raised some insane amount of money for his dog's surgery, which was something he probably could've paid for on his own.

Or bands raising way more money than they need to record an album and tour without giving copies of the album and tickets as incentives. Like you have fans which is the only reason you can do a kickstarter, and youre going to withhold all your output unless they pony up money in advance AND afterwards.

I'm just saying that there is a line that can be crossed and it isn't just up to the audience to police what is appropriate. You need to show some restraint.

So proud of my wife, she works in what is called "the traffic department" at a local ABC affiliate, the station recently got bought out by a big national corp who decided to do away with her department, they are all to be layed off in mid July. Within days some folks from the local sales department, a nice safe department since local commercials are always needed, came to her and told her about a job opening up, they talked her up to their boss, based on her reputation as a hard worker. So she went from basically fired to getting a raise and some job security. No reason anyone should care here, but I had to brag on her, we've gone from sleepless nights and handwringing, to celebrating.

The grape jelly/bbq sauce thing is very common as an appetizer for large groups., but I've only heard of it with meatballs (http://www.thecountrycook.net/2011/02/party-meatballs-slow-cooker.html). It's pretty good.

I'd be willing to bet, if you ate some, and didn't know it had grape jelly in it, you'd like it.

And to avoid any "modquote nonsense", I'm referring to you eating balls of meat. With jelly. And liking it. With money involved.

Congrats.

Just looking at a picture on twitter of the unmasked with o and a and wow what porker Ronnie b has become. Interesting how no one mentions that on air

He is working some serious tube neck. A heavy smoker in his 50s, he should maybe be trying to dial it back a bit or Fez contract may become a moot point.

I'm not sure. I Googled it while I was waiting for the damn dilation drops to take effect. Apparently, sleep apnea can cause damage to your eyes. So I guess he saw signs of it. The last time I went there, he told me I had elevated cholesterol levels, before my bloodwork came back from my MD. He's a damn good eye doctor. No other doc has ever gotten my prescription so right.

Wow, that's service! I have an eye appointment next week, I'm going to ask him about all this.

I hate glasses shopping. Here, take off the things you need to see. Now judge how your new face will look.

I was thinking telescoping ears like a cat would be great, you could zero in on eavesdropping. Then I realized people would see that you're eavesdropping on them. It's a real catch 22.

This is why I use my phone to take pics, and send them to a friend with good fashion sense. If she thinks they look good on me, that's good enough for me. I've had very bad experiences with picking frames on my own.

It seems like, just about every other day, there's a new news story about such and such a study, that says pot is bad for you. You rarely saw them before states started letting people use it so freely. The one I saw today talks about how it's bad for your heart. But everyone in the study smoked it. Really? Smoking is bad for you? I had no idea!

Speaking of "traps"... About a month ago, several prostitutes and a pimp were busted here locally. In the news articles about the busts, the police repeatedly named a website that was used by them, to hook up with clients.

Can you see where this is going?

A few days ago, the cops busted 11 men for using an "unnamed website" to arrange connections with prostitutes. Well played, cops. Advertise the website in the paper, then sit back and wait to catch the suckers!
