My credit union is freaking me out. When I buy liquor, I open the back of my Honda, and put the liquor in a plastic chest. When I look at my debit card statement, the line for the liquor purchase says "VA ABC STOWINCHEST". How do they KNOW that!?

Probably because the ABC itemizes the items like that. So it's where you purchased, and what you purchased. Maybe. I actually have no idea.

I know this isn't the questions thread but I'm going to post this here anyway.

Is my calmness regarding "my" illness getting worse (and me feeling pretty much as worse as I ever have) due to my acceptance of the situation or a self defense mechanism that will eventually come crashing down?

It could be a little of both. You know this is the way it's going to be, and your brain is keeping you calm and keeping you from freaking out about it (which would do way more harm than good). This doesn't mean that you won't have errant moments of anger and sadness, but hopefully, they will be few and far between. Acceptance is the final stage of grief afterall. You've come a long way. I love you monkey.

I was told a different version of the 5 stages of grief in a class I just took on death and death counseling and how to talk about death to those with developmental disabilities. (These stages apply for everyone, though).

1. Accept the reality that death has occured.
2. Find someone to express your grief to and let it all out.
3. Get your life back in order (eh: clean the house, pay your bills, go back to work...)
4. Rexamine the meaning of your life.
5. Reach out and help others.

And I really like this model...though everyone is different and will experience things differently. I think accepting something, is the only way to really get on with your life, so to speak.

And maybe it's because I'm reaching out to help others and I'm finding that this may be the reason for my life and while I don't think I have MS for any other reason other than luck of the draw, I could make my diagnosis into something that will help others get through trying times which in turn will fill me with hope.

If that makes sense...

you can have symptoms and not actually be getting worse

plenty of MS pats have what are called pseudo exacerbations due to stress, heat and other issues in life

bottom line is you might not be in such a bad way as you think you are

have you had an actual exacerbation at all? a substantial activity uptick on any of you MRI parameters? T1, T1 hypointensities, T2, T2 gd+ or brain atrophy metrics? If so, where? juxtacortical, periventricular, brain stem, cord or a combination?

of course, if you are up for digging deeper on this now...your call

as for your take on it all, many do very well who take it as a calling to help others

there is a grace in accepting help, and a love in giving it

when I work with patients many work hard to help each other and for some reason they seem to do much better than those who tend to get down and only focus on their own issues. some of the best patient advocates are actual patients, and in the end, don't we all have SOMETHING that affects our health in the end? just like anything else, it's not the actual problem that can bring us to our knees, it's how we deal with them.

I've had exacerbations due to stress and I always have them when it get's warmer out. Tomorrow is going to be awful. I do know that my last MRI revealed new lesions on my spinal cord and some smaller new ones on the brain (I'm forgetting where at the moment). I guess I'm just basing it on how I've been feeling and for the length of time I've been feeling this way. I have a doctors appointment coming up in July (it was the earliest I could get an appointment) and I'm getting an MRI and blood tests beforet that.

I just feel like I've gotten worse. That the symptoms feel different than the ones I've had before. Not in completely different ways, but almost like having a gut feeling about something. So, you are right that the disease may not actually be getting worse and that I'm just having multiple flare ups.

Though two new symptoms I have definately noticed are a tremor in my right hand and a trembling/quivering of the bottom lip and chin, though it's not all the time. I can't say that anything really triggers it but it'll just pop up and stay for awhile and then recede and then come back.

I guess the main point of my whole thing was more that it kind of bothers me that I'm as calm as I am about the aspect of it getting worse, even though the calmness is also, well, calming.

I forget the name of the actor but my teacher mentioned him in class. He suffered from severe clinical depression. Not leaving his house, wanting to die, and all of that. And he went to a doctor and was given meds and they didn't help him. So this one doctor told him to come and see him. He asked how he (the patient) had been feeling. The patient said absolutely horrible. There was no joy in his life. So the doctor set it up for him to go work in a psych unit at a hospital. He didn't really understand why but went to do it. In 6 months his clinical depression was gone and he was happy again.

It really goes to show that helping others is a wonderful thing. The value of human relationships are what make life worth living.

I think their checking my vitamin d levels. I know that I had been very low, but I've been taking about 2,000 iu a day of it for awhile now so I'm hoping it's higher now. And I think they're taking preliminary tests to get a baseline in case I switch meds. I'm not going onto Tsabri or whatever it's called though. I'm certain of that much.

I'm sure he did. It's just blows my mind how simple connections can make someone so happy.

And high school relationships did feel like the end of the world, and I kind of wish I felt like I did during a break up back then rather then how I feel now. Before there was something kind of romantic about being bummed. Now it's just a drag.

A girl I've known since we were in the first grade was in a horrifying accident last night. She and her father were stuck in construction traffic on Interstate 81, when a tractor trailer hit a Jeep, and the Jeep hit my friend's PT Cruiser. The Cruiser went airborne, and the Jeep burst into flames.

My friend's father (who must be at least 70) busted a window of the Jeep with his bare hands and saved a young teen in the front passenger seat. The teen in the back was alert but trapped. The woman driving (the mother of the teen who was saved) was conscious but disoriented. They were both burned to death as my friend and her father watched helplessly.

My friend and her father weren't hurt bad enough to go to the hospital, but I'm sure she's going to have some emotional scars. Especially having to hear the rescued boy scream for his mom as he was being pulled from the Jeep.

Posted Jan. 21, 2013
UPDATE: As predicted, my friend has had a very hard time dealing with this. Part of what she's doing to heal, is to tell the story as she saw it. She's also fighting to get the particular Jeep Grand Cherokee model involved, recalled. If you, or anyone you know, has a model 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee, you may want to read THIS (http://www.change.org/petitions/dot-and-nhtsa-save-innocent-families-from-burning-to-death-in-jeeps?fb_action_ids=4899936068671%2C4899782544833% 2C4899601780314%2C4899082087322%2C4898908842991&fb_action_types=change-org%3Arecruit&fb_ref=__FXslggmgRQ&fb_source=other_multiline&action_object_map=%7B%224899936068671%22%3A5815570 35192541%2C%224899782544833%22%3A581557035192541%2 C%224899601780314%22%3A581557035192541%2C%22489908 2087322%22%3A581557035192541%2C%224898908842991%22 %3A581557035192541%2C%224898680797290%22%3A5815570 35192541%2C%224893521948322%22%3A581557035192541%7 D&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=url_share&utm_campaign=url_share_before_sign).

UPDATE: The ABC World News leading story tonight, was about this, and it featured my friend's campaign. Her petition now has over 125,000 signatures. HERE'S (http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/business/2013/06/chrysler-pushes-back-on-us-call-for-jeep-vehicle-recall/) the story from the ABC website. They haven't posted the video yet. In it, she visits the crash site for the first time. There are still Jeep parts scattered, and she found a burnt WVU T Shirt and a burnt iPod.

The U.S. government today called for a major recall of nearly 3 million Chrysler sport utility vehicles based on what its experts say is a deadly fire hazard that has left an estimated 51 people dead.
“This will be the biggest recall [in terms of impact] since the Ford Pinto,” said Clarence Ditlow, executive director of the Center for Auto Safety, which requested a U.S. probe into the SUVs in 2010.
The automaker is refusing, however, saying that its vehicles are safe and not defective.
The government says that initial findings show a safety defect in older model Jeeps — the Jeep Grand Cherokee from 1993 to 2004, and the Jeep Liberty 2002 to 2007.
The government also says the fuel tanks are vulnerable to rupture in rear-end collisions.
Crash tests done by engineering students at a government test facility showed fuel spilling from the Grand Cherokee. Chrysler contends the tests were three times more severe than government standards.
Today the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration called on Chrysler to recall older model Jeep Grand Cherokees as well as Jeep Liberties, saying “the defect presents an unreasonable risk … because people [in the vehicles] and in striking vehicles have burned to death in rear impact crashes.”
According to the government, the problem is the fuel tank location, just behind the rear axle and slightly below the bumper. In later models of the Grand Cherokee and Liberty — in 2005 and ’07, respectively — the tank was moved but Chrysler said it was for design reasons.
Chrysler insists the government’s three-year-long investigation is based on an “incomplete analysis.”
In a statement to ABC News, the automaker said: “The company does not agree with NHTSA’s conclusions and does not intend to recall the vehicles cited in the investigation. … Chrysler Group stands behind the quality and safety of its vehicles. It conducts voluntary recalls when they are warranted, and in most cases, before any notice or investigation request from NHTSA. ”

That's the thing... I'm not the manager. No one gets a promotion without good reviews from EVERYONE. I'm even evaluating my own coordinator, as she is applying for a higher position. On a side note, we all joked about giving her bad evals. She's the best leader we've had, and if she gets the promotion, we get stuck with someone else.

But yeah... I'm not screwing anyone over. I'm even giving good reviews for the guy who is applying for the same job I am.

I actually read that, if it has some mold on the outside, it's good mold. The penicillin kind, and actually makes the salami last longer and taste better. These slices didn't have any mold. I think they may have lost a little of their original color, but I'm not really sure. I'm not dead or sick yet. Maybe I'm just overly cautious. I threw it all away anyway. I don't earn my sick days at work until late in July. I can't believe I've been there over a year and haven't missed a single day! I guess it's easier to stay motivated to go to work on icky days, when they actually pay you a decent wage.

Got prescribed some non narcotic pain killers which when I went to the pharmacy to pick up I couldn't get them because I take zoloft and if you mix the two there's a good chance you die. What's kind of funny is that the reason I'm depressed is because I'm always in pain and because I tried to treat the depression I can't stop the pain.

And then I had been very flirty with this girl for the past few days and we were really hitting it off, so much so that people were noticing and telling me to go for it. Then I found out she has a fiance.

And the "sticking to the 11 year old" one is good as well. It's been a long few months but if memory serves me right it had something to do with PapaBears nephew who was awesome at picking games during March Madness.

I just read a thing something like "How can we abide a Paula Deen witch hunt for using a racial slur 30 years ago when that traitor Hanoi Jane Fonda is playing Nancy Reagan in a movie?" and it's a status shared from "Boycott Hanoi Jane from Playing Nancy Reagan."

Which is funny because the Paula Deen thing is getting really simplified, I wonder if people think she is being deposed over saying something racist? But also the idea of thats how a boycott works. Like you would be able to get a really liberal guy who made a movie that probably makes the Reagans look like hammered shit to cut Jane Fonda out of a movie that's already finished that you weren't going to see anyway.

Like we owe it to history to not let Jane Fonda portray Nancy Reagan.

Yeah but we need to not act like the stuff that kids say is real. Like they're cross examining that girl, she's not a person yet, she's a kid, she's nearly retarded. You wouldn't trust her with anything, like you wouldn't hand her a match book and feel safe walking out of the room. It's unfortunate that she's the key witness in a murder trial but I'm pretty confident I could talk her into literally anything if you gave me 30 minutes, so while we cant prevent a court system from just decimating her mentally maybe we should lay off the headlines.

Same thing with instant reactions from people about tragedies. Those people are going to yell out stupid shit because they're mentally compromised, it isn't fair to make them a spectacle.

I would make the same argument for a white kid. They need to figure out what happened because the most important thing is justice, but at the same time I think you can figure shit out in a less damaging matter and also exclude the press who has no restrictions in handling young witnesses. It shows the problem in the courts that it isn't a system trying to figure out whats right, it's a system where the prosecution and defense both try to win their position.

If I were king there would be no televised trials.

sailor

I'd argue the defense has an obligation to win their position, but the prosecution is supposed to figure out what's right. Heck, I don't even think it needs to be argued.

The media/public loving a circus is why we need this to not be on TV. Like today the girl says "That's Retarded, Sir" to the defense attorney and everyone is all jazzed about it. I just want to point out this is not a person who can currently handle the noteriety being thrust upon her, and we should consider this isn't Nancy Pelosi saying things it is a really young, dumb person.
