My buddy's Dad died a few months ago and I was helping him clean out his storage unit today. We found a Leslie speaker in what appears to be excellent condition, and he told me I could have it since I was the person he knew like most likely to get a ton of use out of it. There's a girl that works for me that's trying to go to the gym three times a week in Manhattan.

Here's the catch - she wants to do it for a year and not pay a dime. She figures that every place will let you try their facility out once for free. In addition, plenty offer a week or more free with no further obligations. And if you wait like six months, you may even be able to hit the same place twice.

She's doing a similar thing with personal trainers, but that's another story.

If she makes it a year, she's going to write an article and shop it to magazines.

In my town today, a family of four (ages 49, 31, 11, and 4) were sitting at a stop light in their Jeep Cherokee at 11 AM on a Sunday morning. A drunk 20 year old plowed into the back of them. The Jeep burst into flames. The family was burned to death. The kid tried to run away.

He started off strong. He ranted a lot about the legalization of marijuana. Then things looked great as they said he was in remission. A few weeks ago, they said it had spread from his lungs to his liver. Some days he was fine. Other days, not so much. Three days ago, he posted a photo of he and his mother going out to a taco shop, and said he was having a great day. Two days ago, he said he had a horrible day. He didn't log on at all yesterday. This morning, another friend went there to mow his lawn, and his mother told him that Larry passed last night.

RIP Larry.

It is a horrible story. Death is a part of life, though. And when you are talking about why would the "Christian" God do something like this, just remember this is a guy who supposedly let his son get nailed to a cross and bleed out/suffocate to death.

But any story of God is just humans projecting our feelings on to a "higher power". Personally I believe there are many "Gods" and they are about aware of us & what we do, as we are of ants.

My dad died of liver cancer in '04. From the time it was diagnosed until his death was about 5 weeks. Life sucks sometimes. Sorry for you loss.
