I looked like Finnegan was taking shots at Johnson's head during the game, then on the play in question he does it again, Johnson goes back at him, Finnegan hits back, Johnson rips off Finnegan's helmet, Finnegan rips off Johnson's, and then Johnson hits with 3 wild punches to the head before it's broken up.

Here's the problem:

The Titans player is basically Sean Avery with an attitude problem. Dre is known as one of the most calm, levelheaded players in the league.

Gooddell suspends Dre, everyone gets pissed because they know it's the Titans player fault. He can't suspend the Titans player because Dre took the helmet off first. So you fine them both 25k and call it a day.

I expected more too, especially for Finnegan being that he was a multiple offender ... this year. However, the precedent was set this year with the Seymore punch to Ben and subsequent fine. I'm glad they didn't actually make Johnson sit, mainly bc Finnegan deserved that beating and then some. Also, we all need him to help put the Eagles back in their place next week.

In my mind Finnegan could have easily been dinged much more due to his past, but Johnson isn't really on the NFL's radar despite a fine last year or so. Believe it or not, he received around a $7,500 fine for get this, getting into it with Finnegan.

Epo, I hardly think the NFL commish currently in office is the only one who hasn't employed a hard set of rules to deal with these type of issues. He's just the most recent one. I'd much rather these issues be dealt with on a case by case basis versus set fines/suspensions. I realize it can be tricky with star players versus 2nd tier down when disciplining players, but I'd much rather some flexibility.

Well Johnson's rep is as a low key guy. NOTHING like Finnegan. And with the bits Finnegan said near the start of the season (something along the lines of wanting to become the #1 agitator/most hated player in the NFL) this sounds like something premeditated.
And I also heard he said to the Houston bench "Watch this" before going at it with Johnson?
I think the fines and no suspensions are good, but I would have fined Finnegan a little more. I don't think he would make nearly as much as Johnson and a higher fine would hurt him a little more.

Now I know that prediction failed miserably and Im not denying it. But the bottom line is Michael Vick after 2 years not playing has 21 total TDs with 5 games left, and thats not counting the 4 1/2 games he didnt play. Im sure Im going to get killed for this but when I gave my Kevin Kolb prediction at the beginning of the year, I said hed have 30-35 touchdowns this year. The reasons behind this I said was a shitty defense partnered with an offense that had a shitload of weapons.

Now I know that prediction failed miserably and Im not denying it. But the bottom line is Michael Vick after 2 years not playing has 21 total TDs with 5 games left, and thats not counting the 4 1/2 games he didnt play. Say what you want, I never in a million years expected the year to look like this, but I knew what the Eagles as a team had to offer and what they could do.

Spoon, get your sigs designs ready fuckhead. (By the way, still in first in the Yahoo pickem league and 2 points out of first in the ESPN pickem league)

Oh and he'll get killed on it bc he predicted a first time starter in the NFL with very little protection due to the Eagle's awful O-line to throw a shitload of TDs. The argument that Vick hadn't played in 2 years is shit bc he's in his second year back, two training camps in and in better shape physically/mentally then he ever was. I can argue very few would have his numbers behind that line outside of Vick. His mobility allows him to get the ball out and extend plays where most would be sacked and or hurt over time. Hell, even Vick got banged up after Kolb did early in the year.

Your Monday nights might be a lot less rowdy next year.

The NFL's players' union has issued a letter to all NFL teams and players advising them to save their money and prepare for an impending lockout that could occur in March of 2011.

The letter has been said to instruct the players to save their final three game checks to prepare themselves for a potential "lack of income".

http://bleacherreport.com/articles/534648-nfl-union-tells-palyers-in-letter-prepare-for-lockout-now

This is probably a smart move by the union, since what's really caused unions to cave in other lockouts/strikes is the fact that the players spent all their money on bling, making it rain, and paying for their ass-kissing entourages (and all the other money they wasted.) To quote Patrick Ewing, "We make a lot, but we spend a lot."

Now, I'm not going to say anything stupid like going off on some dumb tirade about how if this happens, the NFL can kiss my ass and I'll never watch pro football again. Like an abused wife still wearing a shiner from the time she forgot to put mayo on her husband's sandwich, I might think about leaving, but I won't. I'll be back.

Now if the NBA has a lockout too, they really can go fuck themselves. I'm not watching the NBA anyway, so that won't be much of a loss.

But you cant argue the fact that his offensive weaponry has ALOT to do with his success. I completely agree about the line, which after watching them play is why I changed my mind about Vick being the starter. My point was though that his RB and recievers are having the kind of years I expected, unfortunately so is the defense.

OH the McNabb sigs I'll have everyone working on will look soooo nice!

Why not just cover their helmets with leather? That might be kinda cool.

Keep in mind, they not only have the youngest team in football, but are doing this all with a 2nd year Qb and rookie RB. Also, they are coming off a 3-13 year and are giving Atlanta all it can handle at this moment in a pretty darn big game in TB. I'm pretty darn impressed to say the least. I have to say Raheem Morris HAS to be the coach of the year right now. Even if they don't make the playoffs in the EXTREMELY tough NFC South (outside of Carolina of course). Yet he has years to catch up to NORV TURNER!

isnt ironic they were actually going to fire him before the season started after only 1 year as head coach? they decided against it and look how much better they are doing!

We will never agree on this. There is no "clearly" here. Bottom line, Brady won more rings with less talent. End of story.

Spin it however you want, but Troy Brown, Corey Dillon, Kevin Faulk and Deion Branch when he was winning Super Bowls while most of Mannings career he had Harrison, Edge, Dallas Clark, and Reggie Wayne. Even Stokely was better then what Brady was throwing to.

All those weapons and yet 2 less titles then Brady and 3 less then Montana. Id give him Top 5 all time, maybe even Top 3. But greatest ever? No. Not at this point.

By the way, Manning is 1 year older then Brady, so stop with the whole "Mannings hitting his final years bullshit".

First of all, for 13 seasons Mannings hardly even been touched. I dont even think hes in decline, I just think hes having a bad year. Youre the one talking like hes Favre 4 years ago.

And Im sorry, but the way I look at it the measure of a great QB is a championship. Without one you can still be excellent, but you cant be considered the greatest of all time. Thats why Dan Marinos name was NEVER posted as number 1 ever, despite his stats.

Different people judge different ways. In my opinion if David Tyree drops that pass from Eli, then Tom Brady is the best QB in history. But his team lost, so he didnt get to 19-0 and didnt get that 4th ring. Is it fair? Maybe not entirely. But in football the QB gets the most credit if his team wins and most blame if he loses. Hes not just one of 11 players on the field. Hes the general. He leads the troops. When they win he reaps the glory, when they dont he takes the blame.

I dont care if Peyton Manning finishes with 100,000 passing yards and 1000 touchdowns. Without at LEAST one more ring, he will never get higher then Top 3 all time as far as Im concerned. Of course only on this board can saying a guy is probably one of the Top 3 QB's of all time get treated as if you said he sucks.

And I'm sorry, but you're wrong!!! I mean, that can be your opinion, but when you try to drop that on discussions as to who is the greatest and people are using much more important stats and records to judge how the QB himself actually played as if it's the factual trump card you're just wrong!!! A championship is not the final decider as to who is a great QB or not when we breakdown who did the most with the position!!! I don't think you're saying he sucks; I don't know how you can rate a guy lower than someone else if he basically trounces the competition in almost every category that matters just because he has fewer rings!!! Thats your opinion. Stats can be just as meaningless. I see QBs whos team gets destroyed putting up 400 yard games because they have no choice but to throw all day long. I saw Peyton Manning set 2 records in one season, the record for most touchdown passes (Bradys now), and the record for most 1 yard touchdown passes.

Their is only one goal to the game of football. Winning. Thats it. Not getting the most TD's or yards. Its winning. The rest is all secondary.

Would you feel the same way about Manning if he hadnt won that Super Bowl against the Bears? If you did your opinion would be laughed at by anyone that played the game. You cant be the best at something without winning. Thats how you measure greatness.

I just think its funny that youll give the team the credit for the success of Brady and Montana but for Manning you give the credit to him. Did he find some high school team and bring them into the NFL with him when I wasnt watching? The guy has always been surrounded with talented players.

The whole "who is the best ever" is an opinion question. There is no way to factually prove this especially when you compare different eras. Youve given your opinion, Ive given mine. We both have our reasons behind them. Its pointless to keep arguing about it because youre not gonna change my mind, and Im not gonna try and change yours.

no one remembers his first 6 years in the league. yes he hasnt been hit a lot the past 4 years but hes getting killed again this year. when its all said and done manning will go donw as the greatest qb ever. he has the stat, the ring and the mvps and most important there isnt a qb that has more respect from other players then him through out the league.

championships put you in the conversation. if marino had 1 ring he would have been considered the greatest ever. not question but most people understand that football is the ultimate team sport. montana might have 4 rings but he also had 10 years of the greatest teams ever. defense and offense were insane. same with brady, yes brady never had the best wrs in the league. but he had good ones who were under rated and he always had top 10 defenses when they won the sb and a ball control offense. every one of those SB IMO they should have lost. But their defenses played incredible and their kicker deserved 2 game MVPs at least maybe even all 3.

Sorry I cant see how anyone can say Brady over Manning. Ask any exec ask any fan if they had to pick a QB to start their franchise who would it be. Manning would win that list because he is a beast!

Good teams win games all the time!!! Not winning a Super Bowl does not magically negate or cancel out all the games they win!!!! And it's easy to prove who is the best factually...that's why they have stats!!! You're the one who has to make up this nonsense idea that "stats are meaningless" so you can then say it all only comes down to opinion!!! You're trying to make up this nonsense about judging who is better QB coming down to opinion because the actual numbers destroy your opinion!!!

I give Montana and Brady plenty of credit; they're two of the greatest!!! But they had better teams (come on, you're really going to pretend that Montana wasn't on one of the greatest dynasties of all time?!?!?) than Manning has had for most of his career and that's key when evaluating them QB to QB!!! Straight up, Manning is clearly the better QB than Brady right now!!! Look at what they had to work with and look what they accomplished!!! If you're going to sit there and tell me that if you can pick between rookie Manning and rookie Brady knowing what we know about their talents that you'll pick Brady then this debate is over already!!!

I think Brady has done WAY more with less than Manning has, but even as a homer, I know Manning is a much better QB. But I'd also pick Brady over Manning if I were somehow starting an actual team and not a fantasy one. Manning likes to choke quite a bit.

This is definitely Manning's toughest year, though. As all announcers have made abundantly clear, Manning's team has suffered injuries this year, which apparently no other team ever has. He should win the MVP for that.

fuck that noise. Brady or Manning? That was the question

TripleSkeet
12-06-2010, 04:01 PM
Im just gonna answer the following questions randomly rather then quote everyone...

If I had a team and had a choice I would take Brady over Manning. You really cant go wrong either way. I would give Manning the edge in strength and awareness (reading a defense), rate them equal in accuracy, and give Brady the edge in poise. To me thats a huge part of playing QB. Watch the old NFL films and Montanas former players would tell stories about how when the game was on the line, the whole offense would be nervous and jittery, and he'd walk in the huddle just cool as ice. They would feed off his confidence and they credit HIM for winning those games.

The story of the final drive in the Super Bowl against the Bengals is legendary.

Football is a team game but with possibly the goalie in hockey being the exception there isnt another position in a team sport where one man has so much to do with the team winning or losing. People that have played organized football know this. And they will also tell you that stats are what help you get paid and are nice, but the stat that matters most, especially when judging a QB, is W's.

Stats in football are so easy to inflate. When a QB is on a good team sometimes they dont even play the last 2 games of the season. Yet I never hear them cry about touchdowns or yardage lost. Same with shit teams that always have to throw. Im not saying they are meaningless, but as far as a QB goes, yardage doesnt mean more then winning Super Bowls.

Terry Bradshaw has 4 rings. The difference between him and Montana is Montana had a GOOD defense and run game, while Bradshaw had the best defense in history and a maniacal run game. That being said hes a very underrated QB and should be listed higher then he usually is.

It doesnt mean Trent Dilfer and Mark Rypien were better then Jim Kelly and Warren Moon. You dont have to be the best quarterback to win a Super Bowl, but you cant be considered the best without one also. That was my point.

And also, I dont know how anyone can think this is anything BUT an opinion question. Manning has records, but he doesnt have all of them. Who determines what records hold more weight? Brady has one. Favre has one. Montana has some. There are other qualities in a QB that arent measured in stats. Like scrambling ability such as seen in Vick, McNMabb and Randall. Its an OPINION question.

Shit I googled "The best QB ever" out of curiosity and on the first page of results I saw Montana, Unitas, Marino, Elway, and Manning on 5 seperate pages.
