I love Brees, always have, but Rivers is not the problem. Sure he's having an off year and all, but it's a team that's a fucking mess, making bad plays, penalties all wrapped up in terrible calls and coaching. If Brees was here, or Manning, it might even be worse and surely no better. Perhap Archie was right, even if the call was based on Marty. SD is a coaching cesspool only topped by teams like Oakland of late, and even they finally got it right this time it seems.

I was always a fan of Brees, even when he was at Purdue. I remember when McNabb got drafted and people asked what I rather wouldve had I always said I wanted them to draft Ricky Williams, go through another not so great year, and take Brees in the next draft. People laughed at me. Even when he played at SD and I said Id rather have him here they laughed. Then he has a good year or 2 in SD, goes to New Orleans and becomes a superstar.

Looking back a few years back how awful that Manning trade looked for the Giants.
Rivers was playing great, Merriman was a roided maniac, and Kaeding was pretty good too. Still prob but the injury might hurt him.

I'm sooo glad SD had these two breakdowns on huge stages if I had endure them at all. I can only hope the Spanos family has had enough public embarrassment and will finally make a move. I don't care if it kills this year, time to sack Norv and hell, never let AJ pick a coach or first rounder again.
Time to end this shit and move on. Only problem is, it'll probably get worse.

Here's a crazy stat I just saw on Kolber and Mortensen's show, NFL32.
Guess who are the top 3 qbs for interceptions since the start of the 2010 season? Obviously there has been a decent amount of transition at the position in that span (so many rookie starters, Farvre in/Favre out, ), including injuries (Peyton).

Here's the answer, the last three qbs in essence tied to SD not labeled a backup for or 3rd string.
1) Brees with 32 interceptions
2) Eli Manning with 30 interceptions
3) Rivers with 24 interceptions, 11 of which came in the last 7 games and somehow Kevin tied up that trade now with a cute little bow and stupid statements.

1. Alot of Elis 30 picks were his WR stone hands.
2. Rivers is now terrible and looks lost. Can he bounce back, sure, but as of now terrible.
3.Eli has a SB with a far worse supporting cast than Rivers has had in SD
And before you say coaching, Coughlin is pretty damn terrible too.

First off, Coughlin makes Norv look like a fool. Second, Rivers had 13 ints last year and his career worst year was 15. Eli crushes this every fucking year, and still may beat him this year as we're only halfway there, not even. Now sum up that their stats are almost identical in terms of yards, completion %, in River's worst year thus far by a mile, and in one of Eli's better starts at this point and you realize you're way off.
If Rivers is "now terrible" versus having a tough start tied to awful play calling, terrible penalties driving them to constant 1st and 15/2nd and 20s, why isn't Eli further from his stats? One is 4-3, the other barely 5-2. SD has lost it's close games, those they actually should have won too. While NY has won the majority of their close games, a few they had no business winning.
Rivers has spent the majority of this year minus both his main targets from last year, Gates (injured and still slowed a lot) and Sproles (left for NO). Tack on his RBs are constantly injured and in and out of the lineup, the line is constantly being shuffled and Norv is still there and you see what he's working with. Is a lot on Rivers, of course, he himself talks about his issues of late trying to do too much, but Gates getting back is huge.
As for the SB, come one, Eli's team was led by the D and SD has never really had a good one. Even last year the stats were a complete farce. They were ok at best, but played a ton of shit in the AFC West, and the NFC West out of conf. Yah, the worst two divisions in the NFL over the last few decades. Claiming a "far worse supporting cast" is completely idiotic. SD never had even the top ranked team in it's conference, much less the league.

How was it ever one sided at all?
NY got a franchise qb and a SB almost immediately out of it. SD has been fighting to make it better since that day bc it all comes down to the end result. Rivers will be fine, Kaeding is a kicker so how big could he actually be and the guy you called a roided maniac got in trouble for a tainted sup once and was on the down way before that. He got injured and was never the same.

You at the time, got a franchise QB who looked much better than Eli.
Then you get a monster LB with one pick
and a very good to great kicker.

SD did!? Then why did Eli go #1 and garner the extra picks? Both got what were believed to be franchise qbs, only Eli was ranked higher, hence his #1 selection.
the kicker was had in the third and is still statistically the most accurate kicker in the history of the NFL, just struggles like the rest of SD in the playoffs. I'm not sure how he's shit now bc he has an injury for the first time in 8 years.

Kev, it's a trade that worked out for both since Eli refused to play in SD. NYG won a title with him at the helm after working with God's second favorite qb, while SD got a nice package and a qb in terms of stats has clearly outplayed Eli. SD fucked themselves by doing nothing to keep or get something for the likes of Brees and Turner. Everyone knew LT was on the back end of the career or worse, yet they let Turner walk for zilch. Brees had an injury sure, but his value was still very high. AJ just pulled the power move on Marty, a guy who LOVED Brees, and just let him walk to spite Marty. I get they needed to make a call in both situations, but you cash out at least. If they let Rivers or LT go it would be insane not to get something for them, but yet we let the others just go.
Kevin
11-01-2011, 05:24 PM
The Brees thing was a huge mistake but he did really fuck up his shoulder that last game.
I don't know what you could have gotten for him.
And when you let LT go, he was pretty much on the down side.
Can you argue that they should have traded him sooner? Sure but he was so good at his height and his fall was pretty sudden.
Im not sure what LTs stats where when Turner left, was he on his down side?

he was close to 30 and had failed in some big games/started getting injured often
basically he was showing clear signs of winding down and not being able to even come close to running bt the tackles any longer, much less out class people around the edges
in essence, he was average at best on a team that throws first with Norv vs run-centric Marty

I look at it much the same Indy fans need to look at Peyton and Luck. To pass on Luck would be completely idiotic, and let's be fair, Peyton is at the tail end of an awesome statistical career/good overall with the one title and some playoff success. Bottom line is, Peyton is LT, Turner was Luck, only Turner was much more proven in the NFL. I know this is a stretch to say the least, but it can't be perfect.

led yes but up 10-7 that d gave up a touchdown with not much time left on clock and eli led the team down the field and threw the game winning td
so he most def had a hand in winning that super bowl
and his point i believe in worst supporting cast is peoples perceptions are that LT, gates, jackson among others were and are better then plax, toomer, jacobs, boss and others
the bigger point to make is that san diego was contending with their supposed better cast against a in their prime or best patriots, colts and steelers while the giants were fortunate to not have to navigate through that tough of a conference on their way to a title

I wouldnt be surprised if they draft him. His career has mirrored Favres so much its scary.
- Ironman streak
- Won a Superbowl
- Lost a Superbowl
- Future HOFer
All they need now is to draft a replacement, watch Manning hold onto the job even longer then they expected, then go to another team, do pretty good, text pictures of his cock to some piece of ass reporter, and retire.

it's not parity, it's awful coaching overall
There are lesser players in college and games are much more crisp and well coached overall. The NFL to me seems like a huge fraternity of shit coaches over the last few years constantly recycled as we see with fallen ceo's in business.
I do NOT need to see bs like the MLB has become, bc frankly I like being able to have some semblance of interest in games outside of the top teams that actually have top players with an identity.

Hes not completely saying its Norvs fault. Rivers is having a down year and that is his fault but what he is saying is that a lot has to do with the plays called, the preparation, the nervousness of their coach rubbing off on their team and 4+ years of the coach now losing the team because of all this. Add to that injuries and lost players and Rivers having 1 of those bad years that every QB has. But Rivers is a proven stud. Sanchez has been nothing but a proven piece of shit. Never has Sanchez in 3 years been good or looked good. He has been carried by his team 90% and 10% because teams let them win to get in to the playoffs.

I'll play a round of idiot asshole with Tenbats for a second. Here's his take on qbs.
Tebow = good, athletic and gifted at qb bc he just threw a td in the past few plays against the Raiders and bc the very coaches who start him are against him and his awesome talents. I has nothing to do with his play ON the field, that lack of NFL ability to read defenses and lead a team, and surely nothing to do with his lack of any success on this level. But he won in college right, and you just want to see people be wrong and join the world you constantly live in.

11-06-2011, 01:24 PM
Rivers throws in an int = not one person didn't put blame on Rivers, but Tenbats will just state anything as if it's fact and roll with it. Rivers has a long history of playing well on the NFL level, has clearly been off this year, but it's not just on him. Overall the team is a mess and not prepared bc of a coach that DOES suck, has a history of sucking in the NFL as a HC and has clearly lost this team too. Let's not factor this in at all, let's just say it's the qb with a good history of playing his position at every level. Is he off this year, of course and anyone who claims differently is off as well.
Sanchez plays his position badly for years in the NFL = he's below average and is actually helping hold down the Jets to any unbiased fan. Yet you're claiming over the years we've watched this guy he's what? Bc if it's anything more than an average qb at best you're more insane than I thought.
spoon

not to mention Rivers is getting so little protection this year it's truly embarrassing

Sounds like AL adds a T when saying Billy Cundiff.
Rivers is an amazingly talented QB who is making awful decisions. It kind of reminds me of when Gunslinger#4 played in GB and was coached by Mike Sherman. He was sloppy and made horrible decisions.
Then Sherman was fired and replaced by McCarthy. Gunslinger#4 got better at fundamentals and decision-making under McCarthy.
The point of this is, yes Rivers is making bad decisions, but Norv is clearly allowing them. They need a stronger head coach who understands how to push Rivers and his talent in the right direction.

Funny you should say this, bc I just had this convo with my uncle who is a gb fan during today's game. I'd go even further and say that Norv actually promotes this type offense in the face of his inability to get a solid running game going and constantly falling behind by multiple scores. It's an offense loaded up with a huge amount of deep passing plays called and very little control overall at this point.

yea but ESPN and the like were talkin about it as if it was a streak, period. they never even said regular season win streak. they just called it the Home win streak and acted like the pats are unbeatable there.
Its funny, because I thought that RB Tolbert was killing us. I'm not sure why Norv decided to get into a track meet with the Packers from the beginning when the way to beat GB is to keep Rodgers off the field.

Mind you, right now they are missing a starting DE, have missed a starting CB, will be without an all-pro Safety and have a bunch of other injuries. Its not an excuse in the NFL, but it explains why they are playing so reckless right now on defense.
I'd bet once they get a little healthier Dom Capers (good defensive coordinator, bad head coach) will evolve the D to something a little more traditional.

To prove just how bad the AFC West is, KC found a way to get KILLED at home vs Miami and Oakland got Tebow'd at HOME versus the awful Broncos. So yah, this is a good week for SD who we all had to expect to get a loss playing GB. Now Norv somehow is still in a tie for first in their division, the mighty AFC West.
This division should be OVER with even a fucking decent coach in SD, but nope it's a dogfight until the end. And if SD wins it, a big if, it'll be stated they can't fire the offensive genius Norv. of course SD will win the division. I know you arent a big college guy, but essentially, you are being coached by Ron Zook.
he coaches Illinois. He had a couple tough years and then went like 10-2 or 11-1 and they extended him. He blew ass for 3 years and then went like 10-2 and they extended him. the last few years he blew ass and this year they are playin really well and will probably extend him. But they never actually win anything that really matters.
just like you always do, you will win 6 or 7 of your last 8, roll in to the playoffs, do just enough not to get him fired but not enough to win anything. Enjoy the cycle

Im almost happy they have a tough schedule to close. I think they easily can go 4-4 and finish with 10 wins. philly, wash, romo twice which guarantees at least 1 win, NO isnt that great, and SF. deadspin recaps of the games are so much better to represent the dogshit NFL
Aaron Rodgers continued his ridiculous video game-like proficiency and offensive dominance. He had four touchdowns on 21-26 passing. Phillip Rivers, meanwhile chipped in a couple touchdowns for Green Bay as well. Rivers then made it interesting when he and Vincent Jackson hooked up for two touchdowns in less than 2 minutes in the fourth quarter. It wasn't enough, though. You know, because of those other touchdowns he threw.
Offensive powerhouse and rocket-armed John Skelton threw for an earth-shattering 222 yards en route to leading his team to the promised land over a bitter foe in a hotly contested division game. He was able to find some chump receiver in the end zone for a 13 yard touchdown. It was probably the finest thrown ball in the history of time. Patrick Peterson also did some stuff.
