Hate to say it, but I'm not attending the Monday night party tonight. I'm not ready for some football, especially if it's a Jaguars/Titans game that you just know will be a snoozer.

Well, here's the thing: it's kind of pussy too. If you want to make players stop using their helmets as battering rams when they tackle, suspend their asses. Make them lose a game check. Don't talk about how you're going to be tough, then give them fines that they can pay with the change in their couches.
Shit or get off the pot, Goodell.

How about they learn the difference between spearing with the helmet and just a bone crushing legit tackle. That dude from the Falcons just got robbed 50k for a perfect textbook tackle against Desean Jackson.....and this is coming from an Eagles fan. I fucking HATE when they try to pussy down a sport thats supposed to be violent. Have they learned nothing from hockeys demise?
I actually have a theory that Goodell knows that the glory days of the NFL are nearly over so he's in shady business mode. Anything to maximize profits (18 games) and prolong image (lame suspensions/fines that solve nothing) but make the public temporarily feel good about the game.
Once a few players from the 80s/90s start really showing the effects of their concussions, you can shut this bitch down.
You mean for a guy with 9 catches 98 yards and a td? I say keep chirping. Sounds especially retarded when you're talking about playing the ravens who chirp nonstop.

I don't think it's pussying down the sport. There's a legitimate issue wtih concussions and serious injury in the NFL. The rules need to be adjusted. As upset as people like you are that wide receivers can't be legally murdered for catching a pass up the middle, do you realize how much heat the league will take when/if someone actually is killed? Also, the league needs to protect their star players. It's not like the risk of injury is minimal.
I cribbed this from another board and I agree
10 years ago there weren't as many hits like this. Because you could actually defend against the pass without ticky-tack pass interference calls giving up dozens of yards.
Now that you can't defend against the pass, guys are trying to kill people as the ball arrives to knock it out. Because it is the only option they have.
The NFL doesn't want to admit to it, but it's their quest for more offense led by the likes of Polian that is the cause of these hits.
It has nothing to do with "bad tackling fundamentals" or any of the other ************ the media and league is trying to sell. These guys are the best in the world at their sport, they know how to @!&%ing tackle. They just feel knocking the **** out of a guy and hopefully freeing the ball will lead to more wins than wrapping up receivers and giving up a steady progress down the field.

It looks to me like Dunta (Atlants player) went helmet first, giving himself a concussion as well. The rule needs to specify exactly what will be tolerated. Right now, it seems vague.

he went shoulder first, laid his shoulder into jacksons chest, and the sides of their helmets hit each other on the follow through. He didnt lead with his head, he led with his shoulder, the way you are supposed to. You cant stop physics

i froze it. you are blind. His shoulder is in his chest and his helmet (the side of it) is against DeSeans facemask. thats where the concussions came from. Watch both angles, even moose says its shoulder first. You just arent seeing it.

Forgive me my blindness. It looks to me like it is helmet first, at the very least simultaneous with the shoulder. From the offense point of view you don't see the helmet contact, from the defensive side, it looks like helmet first. Also, Dunta's head was down, not proper technique and if the shoulder did lead, I don't think Dunta would have also gotten a concussion.
Watching it repeatedly, his helmet hits his right shoulder, at 27 seconds, his head is leading, you can see Jackson's right shoulder twist before the rest of his body. Watch how his body twists after the hit, Jackson, twists to the right, because that is where the brunt of the force is, right shoulder, upper chest, bottom of his helmet, all hit by Dunta's helmet first.

It's questionable. He seems to put his head down, but he does look like he's leading with his shoulder.
I think it was too close to be an illegal hit, but I agree with everything Moose said, that situation has to stop. I feel like every week there are players kneeling on the field praying while guys lay motionless

it was a great hit. He lead with his shoulder and knocked himself and jackson out. that is football, he wasnt going to have time to readjust, plant his legs and wrap his arms around him. if you dont want someone to get hit hard dont throw over the middle like that. Jackson is a small player and this is one of the many reason small receivers dont go over the middle or dont even make it to the nfl.

actually I know youre joking but some former players on espn said something like that. they said its just as much the qbs fault as it is the defenders because the qb put the ball in a place that makes is more dangerous for the wr. i think thats why is so difficult to suspend and fine because its hard to know the intent of the hit. sometimes players get hit the wrong way and most of the time its not the intent to hit them illegally.

To a degree, I agree with you. But the idea that the price of going up the middle during a football game could be a concussion or worse seems ludacris and quite honestly, barbaric.
I see why this freaks out Goodell. If a player gets killed from one of these hits will drastically change this game, and completely define his tenure as commissioner.

You can lead with shoulder and wrap up at speed. I just remembered doing so long ago as a kid. It was a sandlot tackle pick up game on clay. The kid I tackled got knocked out. I thought I killed him. I felt bad, but better when he came too a little while later and was ok.
Maybe it can be done with pads on. The aim is lower around the chest. And by wrapping the arms. It is more of a driving deal. Then a hit or a blow.

the thing with pads is, even if you turn your head away and hit shoulder, there is gonna be some foward force and your head is still gonna snap forward and make contact. Even if you have your head up, if a guy drops down, you are gonna cream his head. there is nothing you can do about that.

I thought you'd at least come back with something like Matt Cassell is better than Peyton Manning and Dan Marino since he has 2 more rings than the 2 of them combined.
I guess in your logic he's as good as Manning, Marino and Elway since he has as many rings as the 3 combined.
I know Welker's your little engine that could and gives you motivation to get up everday but I'll get back to him in a few weeks when you see him w/ 4 receptions for 40 yards a game since the league isn't actually afraid of Branch as they might've been of Moss.
Wait, are you actually saying that having a receiver like Moss on your team gives other WRs better opportunities? That's CRAZY! Easy there with your theories, Newton.
And no one would ever say Matt Cassell is better than anyone because Matt Cassell sucks.

No kidding, if they ever eally enforced holding to the letter of the rule, two things would happen:
1) a sharp increase in 3 and outs
and
B) QB sacks increasing because of the third and longs and OLinemen keeping thier hands inside the shoulder block of the jersey.
Just ask these guys about holding penalties changing a game.

You do realize that even when you lead with your shoulder your helmet is going to hit the guy first right??? And that you should tuck your head any time you try a shoulder tackle, to protect your neck. You guys are aware of this correct??? His helmet hit the guys SHOULDER first, then his should came in to Jacksons chest and jaw.
It was a TEXTBOOK shoulder tackle, and it was one coming so fast that it was gonna do some damage. If the players dont want to risk concussions and what not then DONT PLAY THE FUCKING GAME. Football is a full contact sport. Every play can result in a broken neck, a knockout, or worse. Thats why its a BILLION dollar business. People dont wanna see 2 hand fucking touch football.

The reason Gooddell freaked out about hits last weekend because two things happened:
1) Eric LeGrand's injury
2) Follett of the Lions being backboarded off in the same stadium almost exactly a day later.
He's freaked because of the PR shitstorm that could happen from a permanently paralyzing incident. I'm not sure who the last player in the NFL that it happened to (the only one I could think of is Mike Utley... surely someone else has been permanently injured since then?)
He absolutely does not want a 2010 version of the Tatum-Stingley incident.

I think the NFL's nightmare is the thought of one of its big stars developing dementia at an early age due to head injuries/concussions.
It's more of a long term problem, really: I think it's already starting to filter down to youth sports, where parents are thinking "Do I want my kid to play a sport that might leave him a drooling vegetable by the time he's 50?"
On the positive side, maybe it'll lead to us actually having a chance to win a World Cup.

I think it's more the fear of a death on the field, which let's face it.. seems plausible. TripleSkeet said: "People dont wanna see 2 hand fucking touch football."
However, more than that, people don't want a player to die mid-game. That would have a HUGE negative impact on the sport.
Do we all want the rules to be as little part of the game as possible? Of course, however, at the same time, the argument "they get paid a lot of money, so if they end up with concussions or worse is their problem" is just ridiculous and dated.

I cant lie, if I had the chouice between keeping football exactly the way it is, with a risk of someone dying on the field, or having them change the rules to a point where it was basically a touch league, Id take the risk of death.
Most NFL players interviewed felt this rule decree was ridiculous and bad for the game, as they should.
Boxing had concerns in the 90s about their fighters getting punchy and tightened the rules where fights stop at the first signs of wooziness or bleeding, thats why they are now a dying sport and UFC is king of the PPV. Hockey tried taking the violence from their sport and now they cant even get on a real tv channel.
Why cant we have a sport that right off the bat says "Look, here are the risks. Playing this could get you killed, it could turn you into a vegetable, or you could get concussions so bad you cant even turn on the lights. Play at your own risk." And then let the players that want to risk it play and the ones that dont can go do something else. Why cant we just have that? Why do we have such a compulsion to force safety onto people these days? I think a grown adult should be able to make their own decisions on weather they want to risk their health or not.

The best example of this right now is Pat White.
In his limited playing time last year, he got laid out and was backboarded off the field. Concussion, knock out.
After training camp, MIA gave him an ultimatum - switch to WR or we'll cut you. White didn't want to go over the middle and risk another concussion, so he put some feelers out, found out there was MLB interest, so he allowed them to cut him and he went to play baseball.

hasnt hurt nascar, indy racing or even boxing. im not saying someone cant die playing football but after 100 years and no one has died on the field from contact? Lets be honest there hasnt even been that many broken neck, back injuries. you would think with how much football has been played and how hard they have hit and how often they hit there would be more. My point is changing it may create more injuries then it prevents. play the game and dont worry about the rest.
I would bet more spinal injuries happen from kick off plays over all other plays combined. so changing the way defenses go after players isnt going to change much except create more scoring, fear of penalties and fines.

how do you know any of that. he wanted to be a qb and miami realized it was a mistake drafting him as one. miami knew he wouldnt make their team as a wr either. you know nothing.
So Miami cuts their third string QB after one year with almost no real playing time? And a majority of the scouts said that if White wants to be in the NFL, he has to convert to WR?
White didn't want to be a WR, that's why nobody picked him up off waivers - not even for a practice team - after MIA cut him.

Anyone see that pass interference call against KC just now? THATS why defenseive players time their hits to try to kill the receivers. Because in this league right now a wide receiver can run down the sideline with a defender, grab the defenders jersey, and throw him to the ground in front of the referee and the ref will throw a flag for pass interference on the defender giving the offense 1st and Goal from the 1.

OJ was never convicted of murder.
He is guilty of shady behavior. I defend Tiger Woods; I don't defend taking advantage of drunk girls.
Having sex with a drunk girl, especially when she doesn't know you that well, is classified as rape because she's not giving full consent.
I think the chick from Reno is nuts and was looking for money; the Georgia situation is totally different.
ok well he didnt fuck the drunk girl if you are going by what happened. not once was it stated that he fucked her. so right off the bar no rape. stop with your convicted by your morals.

I dont care what scouts said the phins drafted him as a qb/ wildcat threat. nothing more. one of the many mistakes by lord parcells. you cant fault him for wanting to be a qb in the nfl when that is all he knew. you also cant say he was affraid to get hit. the man got hit constantly in college so to say he was affraid is ridiculous. he just wasnt a pro qb, got cut.

Any unwanted sexual contact without full consent qualifies as sexual assault. If you want to use the term rape as strictly penis-vaginal insertion, fine, but sexual assault is a lot more broad in definition.

1) When you get hit so hard you get KNOCKED OUT (and I can assure you as someone who watched every single one of Pat's games in college, he never got hit that hard) it can change your mindset about getting hurt.
2) If he wasn't afraid of getting hit, why didn't he change to WR if he wanted to stay in the NFL? I'm sure other teams told both his agent and him that the only way they'd pick him up is as a WR or another converted position. Plus it's a lot easier to pick up a job in the NFL as a WR or a DB than it would be a QB. Especially when Pat was fast, tall, and had good hands. May not be a pro QB, but definitely convertible into an NFL player.
He could have gone to the CFL, he could have gone to the UFL. He decided to play a non-contact sport that he hasn't played since high school.

because he will not make money in the nfl. remember he is an athlete who was also drafted in mlb. why would you switch positions mid career when you have other options. who knew if he would be successful as a wr. why take that chance and waste a few more years making minimum nfl money when you can make a go at another sport.

And one more thing - Pat was one of my favorite college players. I am in no way shape or form painting him as a pussy. Rather, what I think he did was smart. He got 2million plus from the Dolphins, so he's basically set for life, and now he can go do something and not risk debilitating injury.

I agree. Why not just make Nascar drive 55 now while we're at it? Most of the hits that were fined were and should be part of the game. Where is this line going to be drawn? Will stiff arms draw a penalty soon? Hands to the face of the offense (qb or lineman are not allowed)?
On another note, HA CLASSIC CUTLER!

its always a money grab and our society has made it so easy to lie and say you were assaulted. this is legal extortion, brett should tell her go fuck yourself nothing can happen to him except suspension. she already leaked shit so what does he have to lose by allowing her to speak? she couldnt do anything more to hurt him so he shouldnt do anything.
As for todays situations and women. Even if everything you do with a women nowadays is consenting you have to worry about her playing the victim years later when she can grab money or to get back at a man who broke their hearts. This is a scary time for men because people like tenbats love to make all men out to be pervs and assholes for sex and then make the women out to be victims when lets be honest most if not all are not.
Flirting can now be considered sexual harassment because me made everything a man does criminal. If a women sent brett pictures of her tits would he care? Would he be scard for life? No but a women seeing bretts dick (if it truly is his dick) is now so destroyed only money will fix her? Please, women can flirt and act like whores but as soon as a man flirts hes a pervert, pig rapist. The piece of this I'm trying to figure out is that Sterger has a legitimate TV job when this came out. It wasn't like she didn't have a job, so the time was right. If she is in fact releasing this, then it all but destroys any sports media career she's trying to make for herself.

Especially when you werent offended enough to come out with it when it was done. Im not defending Favre but this girl does not deserve to made into some kind of courageous hero.
I'm hardly defending her as she doesn't appear to be the most innocent of people. That being said, even a whore can be harassed.
At a far away glance, they both appear to be hideous people But Favre has been around long enough to know better.

its always a money grab and our society has made it so easy to lie and say you were assaulted. this is legal extortion, brett should tell her go fuck yourself nothing can happen to him except suspension. she already leaked shit so what does he have to lose by allowing her to speak? she couldnt do anything more to hurt him so he shouldnt do anything.
Women arent held responsible for their actions anymore but men are even when they dont do anything wrong.

Not to mention she probably would have been all over him if he was just 10 year younger. Instead she probably thought it was funny and both have HUGE egos I'm sure. He figured who can resist? She thought, ewww, I can have anyone in the NFL why an aging star? I wouldn't put it past them both to have been involved at some pt too bc it's pretty strange to just go to the ole cock pic move out of the box. He just can't add bc of the marriage right now.
How about this: Brett Favre doesn't leave dirty voice mails on her phone or (possibly) send her pics of his dick and she doesn't have anything she can use anyway.

He got cut because he sucked as a QB. They had him play this preseason more and he was fucking horrendous.

Holy shit, Jay Cutler is one dumb motherfucker.
"I've played against [Hall] before -- there's no reason to shy away from him. That's hard to say after throwing four picks at a guy, but if we had to play him tomorrow, I'd go at him every time." That was Cutler's response to the valid question: "Why did you keep throwing Hall's way, when he was picking off everything in his area?
I know he shouldn't curl up into a ball, sobbing, saying "I suck, I suck" over and over after that game, and part of the deal of being a pro athlete is you have to be able to shrug off a shitty performance, but at the same time, if you get picked off by the same dude 4 times in a game, something is wrong with your game, and you do need to work on it. Maybe this is an unfortunate statement and he does know that, but this statement seems to suggest a very severe lack of humility, and that's a problem.

Sanchez barely complete 50% of his passes a game and he doesnt even avg 200 yeards passing per game. Talk about a team that doesnt deserve the respect they get.
