I hate when broadcasters and sports talk people refer to players by their nicknames.
And why the hell is Matt Ryan known as " Matty Ice " ?
Does he have some incredible winning percentage or come from behind record that I'm unaware of ?
What's so " ice " about him ?
In college, he'd play SO BAD for 3 quarters that his good team was almost always behind, so he'd always need a 4th quarter comeback to win. And announcers gave him that awful nickname.

1. Tebow likes Jesus
2. Tebow and Sanchez are both shitty QBs.
3. Thomas is a great WR
4. Marty wants Tebow to be the President.

So he took his college name to the pros ?
Shouldn't it phase away when it's irrelevant ?
Stupid announcers.

This Tebow stuff drives me crazy.
Sure there are people on the the exreme who want to give him all of the credit but there are far too many more that disecet a game finding out why they win in spite of Tebow.
I mean everybody knew going into the game that Pittsburgh was banged up but they still had Harrison, Polemoleu ( sp ??? ), Big Ben and Hines Ward some of their better players.
Yet now the reason they lost has nothing to do what what Denver did but what Pittsburgh couldn't do because of injuries ?
You don't hear much about how good offensive lines and kickers when Brady wins but all of a sudden when a " below average " QB helps his teams win games it's all about the supporting cast and not the QB.
I didn't think Denver had a chance to win that game as I didn't think they had a chance to win against the Jets and I don't think they'll beat the Patriots
But obvioulsy they are doing something right and it's working so who knows.
I guess I can expect to hear about who the Patriots didn't have for the game if Denver pulls off te upset.
Exactly this. Even with the injuries, Vegas had Pittsburgh as 8 1/2 point favorites on the road. Nobody thought they had a chance. He put up over 300 yards and almsot 30 points on their D.
Even I dont think hell beat New England but Im starting to hope he does just so I can hear all the excuses for that one.
Bottom line, the kid fucking wins.

Atlanta Falcons just lost their DC to Auburn.
Nothing yet to indicate if he was asked / pushed to seek other employment, or if he just left on his own.
I've seen mixed reactions from "good riddance", to "that sux. total shock. thought there might be changes, but never expected to lose van gorder". The last was paraphrased from one of the Falcons' beat reporters.
Unfortunately, due to the NFL's fucking "regional coverage" shit, I've had to watch a lot of Falcons games, including the one this weekend.
Personally, I think it's a home run hire for Auburn, and the Falcons' loss.

Yeah, but during the regular season, the "regional coverage" for this area sucks balls.
Fucking saints, falcons, jags, titans... sometimes bucs and fins. Not one team that I give two shits about.
Not getting even a minute of that pack vs lions game that last weekend about put me over the edge.

Did he make the pass, execute the play called? Did he have a much better game overall (yet still eh numbers % wise and more) and Kev's comment is off? Yest to all of these, but he did NOT make some Peyton Manning-esque read you fool.
* Nice to see/read that so many others just killed Tenbats for claiming Tebow "read the d". He was so confident and brazen about it, he posted it twice and in caps. Some funny shit.
Heard he changed the play today. Not saying it's right or wrong just that's what I heard.

I'll give you another example:
Earlier this year, there was a triple or quadruple homicide nearly Philly. If memory serves, the homeowner, his nephew, the nephew's girlfriend, and a child were killed.
The nephew apparently served time for armed robbery and some other crimes, and the media INSTANTLY leapt that his dealings once he got out of jail is what led to this. Totally manipulating the story that it was the nephew's fault that they all got killed.
Turns out, the shooter was targeting the homeowner - not the nephew - because of a business deal gone bad. Shooter then killed everyone else in the house.

Here's the thing: if Tebow can actually learn to throw, he is indeed gonna be awesome. But the fact is that the Steelers were completely giving up the pass all day, and he was still successful on less than half of his passes.
I know that Tebow does seem to have this thing of making some awesome play at just the right time, but you can't count on that. A franchise quarterback can't suck most of the time but have a "flash of brilliance" at the end; they've gotta be great the entire game.
Tebow has the "intangibles" that they always talk about for a QB: he's smart, he seems to be a good leader, and, as much as he can suck the rest of the game, he doesn't seem to choke. But you need more than "intangibles." The problem with Tebow is the fundamental mechanics of his game. And it may be, sadly, that he just doesn't have what he needs to fix those.
Until Tebow shows much more consistency in his passing game, the Broncos would be stupid to commit to him as their franchise quarterback. And I think Elway knows this, but the stupid fans are just blown away by him and think that benching him means you hate Jesus.
First off, "if he can learn to throw" at the end of his second full NFL year and already 24 years old...good luck Denver. You can tweak a delivery, but not overhaul it completely and all of a sudden make a guy's release quicker, arm stronger and ability to read/feel the play better. The latter can happen the easiest, but that's more about aptitude, intelligence and football awareness. Some parts moldable, others inherited/instinct based.
Which ties in nicely to you claim the guy is "smart". What are you going on with this? The guy took a joke major and graduated with a good gpa, but come on, I didn't even know you could major in that! Oh and his wonderlic was pretty sad too. Not Vince Young bad, but not good.
From an ESPN report/story:
While former Florida quarterback Tim Tebow wowed evaluators with his on-field performance at the NFL combine last month, he scored a 22 out of 50 on the Wonderlic test, the Palm Beach Post reported, citing an NFL source.
The 12-minute test measures an individual's learning and problem-solving abilities.
According to the Post, the average Wonderlic score for an NFL quarterback is 24. The newspaper also reported that the quarterback prospects in Mel Kiper Jr.'s latest rankings on ESPN.com -- Sam Bradford of Oklahoma (36), Colt McCoy of Texas (25) and Jimmy Clausen of Notre Dame (23) -- scored higher than Tebow.
...
Tebow is a Heisman Trophy winner who won two national championships at Florida. According to the newspaper, he graduated with a 3.66 GPA majoring in family, youth and community services.

You're joking right?! Bc all I heard all fucking year was how this was Tebow and a few that said he's barely managing games get attacked as if they are going after Jesus Christ even though they're right. Brady gets a ton of credit bc he's a HUGE reason those teams win, and it's not like the HC and guys like Moss and Gronkowski get no credit when they were/are on.
To discredit anyone saying pitt was banged up and not the same team of the last few years, is to be dead wrong. Ward is barely a 4th wr now too, so mentioning him as still playing is pretty funny. Ben was and hasn't been anywhere near his norm since the injury. He gets away from almost no pressure (even though he still seemingly fearless in there), his throwing lanes are terrible, he can't drive through his throws and of course he has almost NO mobility. As for Harrison, he simply played awful and both he and Troy Palmamamaaumaauau (also hurt bad all year/toughed this game out) are pretty much marginalized in today's NFL unless they want fines.

Im not christening the kid John Elway junior. But people that say he cant play are just ridiculous. Hes one win away from the AFC Championship game. Ya gotta be able to play somewhat to get there. His defense is good, but its not the fucking steel curtain. I like to fuck around with the haters, I know hes not great, but hes not godawful either.
This comes back to the same arguments Ive had with people about McNabb. Some people feel its all physical skill that makes you a good QB. While its important Ive always argued theres more to it than that. Otherwise Jeff George, Randall Cunningham, Donovan McNabb, and alot of other guys would be champions. It also takes guts, poise, leadership, and the ability to make your teammates believe in you. Tebows got all of that. Sometimes it looks like that and his scrambling ability is all hes got, but too many times people dont realize that shit is just as important as arm strength if not more.

and mark sanchez was 1 win away from the super bowl 2 years in a row and he is garbage. your reasoning makes no sense and goes back to the argument of team vs player. teams win championships not qbs. a great qb will help put a good team over the top and hopefully win multiple championships but a great team will always be more important and make a qb look better then he is.

First off, yes bad qb's get to big games despite shitty qbs based on talent, physical and mental...sometimes both. Look no further then exhibit A, the AFC over the last two years.
Next, he is godawful in terms of anything that's related to throwing...period. Even in the win he was bad overall, it was DT and Royal that DID YAC it up like crazy. The guy completed 9 fucking passes in regulation and were in that game! NINE! And this was his GOOD game of the last say, 5 games or so. I guess you don't remember how bad they were before. They showed immediate improvement in his first year. And it's not like Atlanta has been loaded with talent on defense. Besides Abraham, most people couldn't even name another Falcons starter. This last year wasn't even his best.
Falcons under Van Gorder:
2007 (pre-Van Gorder): Allowed 414 points (25.9/g), 29th.
2008: Allowed 325 points (20.3/g), 11th, 25th against the run, 21st against the pass
2009: Allowed 325 points (20.3/g), 14th, 10th against the run, 28th against the pass
2010: Allowed 288 points (18.0/g), 5th, 10th against the run, 22nd against the pass
2011: Allowed 350 points (21.9/g), 18th, 6th against the run, 20th against the pass
I still say it's their loss.

Plus, UGA fans loved the guy when he was there, and hated to see him go.
This isn't quite on the level of little nicky saban coming back from the NFL to run another SEC West program... but it's close. UGA fans are not happy. And it could be a double shocker if the Falcons go in and steal their current DC as a replacement for Van Gorder.

I never said scrambling ability was. But I believe those other things, leadership, poise, having your teammates believe if they can stay close you can win it at the end for them, I think thats huge in a QB. Its the main reason I always hated McNabb......that and because hes black.

Spell check. This isn't a newspaper, but I've noticed this problem for quite a while. "Editors" barely exist anymore. Publishers rely too much on spell check, instead of actually reading content. "Boy" is correctly spelled.

And Tony Sparano is the new Jets OC.
That said: I think the writing was on the wall about Schotty. He "resigned" to get a fresh start, but I think he was given a settlement to go away. It's a PR face-saving move so he can get a OC job somewhere else down the road.
Then again, Alosi got a new job, so who knows.

So upset by this. I thought with Davis dead the raiders might have some stability for a change. Hue did a good job, the team was better than last year, but had some shitty injuries. Other than the way they finished games when they had fourth quarter leads I was very happy as a fan.
I know they're looking for a new stadium deal too, and there's reportedly two groups down south that are ready to build one.

“We already have his coach — Tom Moore,” one well-respected player said. “Plus, he’s a field general and will get everyone lined up. He will get his playmakers the ball. We can win a Super Bowl with Peyton.”
But can the Jets hoist the Lombardi Trophy with Sanchez?
“How can we when he’s not improving at all?” one of Sanchez’s teammates said. “He thinks he is, but he’s not. He has shown us what he’s capable of.”

A couple weeks ago, Sanchez dismissed a report that he was being coddled. His teammates disagreed.
“They don’t want to be truthful with him,” one prominent player said of the way that the organization has handled Sanchez. “They treat him like a baby instead of a man. He goes in a hole when someone tells him the truth.”

Yah, I kind of like McElroy's take...especially since he manned up by allowing his name even though he had to know he'd get flamed on it for being 3rd string/injured all year. These guys just sum up the overall character and maturity of the team Rex assembled over the last few years. If they think they're just a qb away from glory they need to revisit those games and look at some stats on both sides of the ball.
Clearly I don't like Sanchez's game or his season for that matter, but you also have guys going at each other, players quitting and others mouthing off like Rex bc it's Jet culture. You reap what you sow Rex. Team is a fucking mess.
Oh and SD wouldn't go after soon to be 36 year old Manning either. Rivers is a stud, even in this shitty year he's top 10 in almost every category or better.

So as far as regular seasons go, I constantly hear how amazing this year has been for Eli and it's his best reg season by far. So let's check out this down year in SD for Rivers factually to sporting media's wonder boy of late, Eli.
Rivers versus Eli respectively:
QB Rating - 11th @ 88.7 v 7th @ 92.9 (not a huge margin at all)
Completions - 4th v 5th (with 7 more passes attempted so virtually the same and tiny adv Rivers)
Comp % - 7th v 14th (big advantage for Rivers, but man did anyone know Brees completed 71.2% of his passes on the YEAR!?..WOW)
Yards - 6th v 4th (very close over 16 games)
Yards/Game - 6th v 5th (Rodgers sneaks back past him w/ only 15 games, but virtually the same)
TDs - 8th @ 27 v 7th @ 29 (yah, pretty damn fucking close for someone on his great year versus a "down year" for the other)
Ints - 20 ints v 16 (again, pretty fucking close, especially how many like to perceive Rivers as being just atrocious this year and Eli a back door mvp candidate! Yah, it's been said many times out here on the radio and even some national tv shows somewhat in jest, but not totally.

New story up with players rightfully defending Sanchez in public. I'm pretty sure it includes the first time all year that first ballot HOF Mangold made a block for the guy! Stay gold mangold.
“It is definitely really disheartening that some players are coming out and want their names protected and all that, and they’re talking bad about our team and organization,” Slauson said. “That isn’t how it’s supposed to be done. All I hope for them is that they stay anonymous because things won’t end well for them if that ever comes out. Bad mouthing the team and the organization, that could be grounds for losing their jobs. I’m not saying anything will be done, but it would be bad to know exactly who it was because I wouldn’t be able to look that guy in the eye the same way again.
Solid move by Slauson, he has earned my respect for that comment at this time. The personal shit stays private, keep that shit inside and work it out there. This shit is classless to me, but to be expected here. Flaky as one jet called it is pretty fucking dead over the last few years, especially now.
Center Nick Mangold defended Sanchez on Twitter and then during a radio interview, saying he “very much so, 100 percent” believes in Sanchez.

this was in a mailbag question to Bill Simmons today. I knew about the 316 yards thing and everyone making a big deal about tebow but this is REALLY fuckin weird:
A thousand years from now, will people build scenes of the 2010 NFL-Draft in front of their houses just like they do with the nativity play now? In the Pittsburgh game, they played in the stadium that's closest to heaven (Mile High). Tebow threw for 316 yards. Rothlisberger's interception came on 3rd and 16. Pittsburgh's time of possession was 31 minutes and 6 seconds. Tebow's average yards per completion was 31.6. Someone named John told Tebow to pull trigger on the final TD. And Demaryius Thomas, the target for Tebow's game winner, was born on Christmas.

I know Simmons is a huge pompous douche, especially since he got his own site and now thinks he is also a hollywood producer. but this shit made me crack the fuck up:
SG: You know how ESPN tried to turn 2011 into The Year of the Quarterback? I wish we tried to turn 2012 into The Year of the Coach, if only so we could have created a 16-coach game show formatted somewhat like Chopped, with the contestants making impromptu coaching decisions instead of impromptu cooking challenges. Imagine Andy Reid, Marvin Lewis, Brad Childress and Norv Turner battling in the season finale of Botched.
Andy the Host: "Gentlemen, it's the second quarter of a playoff game, you're playing on the road and trailing by three, you're at midfield, the two-minute warning is coming up, and you only have one challenge remaining. We're going to ask you to make strategic decisions for the next eight plays of this sequence. Here's the first one: Your running back just ran very close to a first down on second and two, only it seems like the ref may have given you a bad spot. Again, you only have one challenge remaining. What do you do?"
Marvin: "I'm going to challenge that spot, Andy. Even if it's nearly impossible to get a spot reversed, and I could easily run for a first down on the next play, I'd rather lose my last challenge flag right now. This way I can just take it out of my pocket — I hate that thing, it's cumbersome."
Andy: "I'm not going to challenge the spot, Andy — I love third-and-short, that allows me to run a terrible play-action pass that will almost definitely result in a tipped pass at the line of scrimmage. I'd also rather blow that challenge later in the game, during a much bigger moment, when it will really crush my fans."
Norv: "Andy, I'm going to stare straight ahead, look as confused as possible, wait too long to react, and then only throw my challenge flag after the ball has already been snapped on the next play."
Brad: "I'm going to call timeout, Andy, and then, after the timeout ends, that's when I'm going to decide to challenge that spot. This way, I could potentially lose two timeouts on the same play if I'm wrong."
Host: "And our loser for that question is … Brad Childress. Brad, you're only a couple more ill-advised decisions away from being our Botched champion. Good luck."

Im so happy Im not betting any of these games. After watching tv all week and now shitty espn and reading some things online Im really thinking that SF wins this week. All along (since the playoff teams were known) I thought NO goes to the SB now not so much. Either the media is doing a good job giving their reasons why SF can and will win or SF really might do it. Im starting to believe this and I have NO playing Balt in the SB in our contest on here.
Anyone else changing their minds or think SF might win today?
I'm cheering for SF today, the same way I cheered for Atlanta last week. :innocent:

this was in a mailbag question to Bill Simmons today.

I think it has a lot more to do with the old coach just being awful and not using the guy well at all. The team and qb look night and day compared to last year. And the SD press mentioned Singletary as a possible replacement for Norv! FUCK THAT! Perhaps Norv staying was a good thing in one way! SD loses no matter which way you look at it.

actually thats a good call. they changed the rule 2 years ago. the ball is allowed to move when you go to the ground as long as you keep your hands around it. If it moves and slips in your hands its not good, but if it moves and you keep your hands on it in control, its a good catch.

i think they should do it just like NCAA football. They have 3 guys in a booth who watch every single play. if a play is suspect, they buzz the ref to stop play while they continue to watch, then tell the ref what the right call is. From what i remember, thats pretty much same as hockey except the refs have to call up in hockey. the booth calls down in NCAA
the average review time for a play that gets reviewed in NCAA is 33 seconds. They have it so streamlined they review every single play. the refs dont get mad that someone overruled them, they are happier to just get the right call in the game. It works great. I dont get why the NFL doesnt do it.
An independant study showed that since NCAA went to this format, the game has gotten longer by an avg of 47 seconds a game.

This is the other side of Tebow. People cum all over themselves talking about how great he is at the end of the game, but a real top-quality NFL quarterback steps up in a situation like that, in the 2nd quarter when you're trying to respond to the other team's score and keep the game from getting out of hand. McGahee looks about 8 years younger tonight. About the only good thing on the Denver O right now.
Phil Simms just said this isn't about scoring, it's about taking time off the clock. In the second quarter. Down 14.
That might be a new stupidest thing Phil Simms has ever said.
Where's your faith!?

My faith is in Brady Quinn.

Yeah, that was Gerard Warren. He also went to Florida.

Tebow couldn't throw a pass like that if Jesus's life depended on it.

This game is leading me to embrace Our Dark Lord.

I think Denver is scared of calling too many passes going into the wind.

The Patriots have plenty of time to get yet another TD.

wow tebow sucks!
the weather Simms, that's why he couldn't throw it 10 yards right after Brady put one on the money almost 50 yards down field?
and nice summary on why that wasn't a penalty vs timeout

probably bc the balls come in soooo oddly, like off the foot of a kicker end to end versus a nice and tight spiral

Another record for Brady. Best QB in the league.
This is great. Just wonderful. Thank you Bill Belichick. This is the first and last time I will say that.

That's the catch-22. All the Tebow haters are gonna peg this loss on Tebow's shoulders, just like all the Tebow lovers peg wins solely on him.
Not even a semi-decent QB can make up for the completely unprepared Denver D. that is not Tebow's fault.

this game is a joke
wow
I LOVE IT!
can we say this loud too, tebow will be 8-6 in the regular season and 1-1 in the playoffs...can we stop saying all he does is win?

It's not all on him, the D is playing awful but at the same time the opposing D is historically awful. No excuse for not putting up more than 7 points that were basically handed to you.
That Denver has called so few pass plays against the worst passing D in the league says a lot about what they think. The only difference between Pitt's D and NE's D tonight is that the Pats are keeping one safety deep. And that's really all that's needed to shut down Tebow.
